Beginner needs help at 2-2 Stonefang

Hey,

I don't think there are any real spoilers here, but please read with caution.

I think I'm in a little bit of trouble in Stonefang. I killed the Armor Spider, and then I headed forward and took a left, where the Fat Official stands. I killed him, and then took the elevator down. When I got down there, I chased two crystal lizards into a tunnel, but two black and orange dudes ran out and killed me. I respawned and went back to the Fat Official, but the elevator is still at the bottom, so I can't get back down there (I die if I jump).

I understand I can still get to Flamelurker in the other direction, but I think I read somewhere that there was a merchant (Patches?) down near where the elevator is that sells things that I really need (some kind of arrow). So I really need to get back down there. Is there any way for me to raise the elevator back up, or is there another way to get to Patches?

Sometimes they are hard to spot, but there is a duplicate lift control at the elevator area that is not on the platform itself....

Around the hole, usually within 5 feet of it.

If it's completely gone I believe there is an alternate ,albeit really difficult path, to get back there.

Thanks guys; I'll go back and take a look later tonight. Hopefully I can find it; I'm not sure I can make through the really difficult path at my current level!

To be more specific the lever you are looking for is right beside where the fat official stands.
