..as I've been playing and randomly invading/helping people.. I've noticed that I've been losing soul levels. Why is this? Do you lose a soul level for every invasion failure, or what is it?

I went from soul level 125 to 119 in less then an hour.

You lose a level when you invade someone's game and die by falling/getting crushed/anything besides the player killing you.

It's not that bad, assuming world 4 is pure black and you have soulsucker.

Then I shouldn't be losing any levels. The only thing killing me are the player and their mobs of phantoms.

That shouldn't be happening then... are you sure you haven't been killed by something like the rock-throwing miners in 2-1 or the dragon in 1-2? And you're absolutely sure you've NEVER fallen off a cliff while invading? There could be another way I'm not aware of, though I haven't read anything else being able to de-level you except if they used soulsucker...

Frack, I forgot about that. I lost 2 levels because of it.

If a player banishes you it can happen, if they soulsucker kill you it definitely happens, and if you die to "dot" damage even if it was player inflicted it happens. Basically if you leave an invasion you provoked by anything other than killing the host, dieing to a straight attack from host or phantom, or simply shutting off your own game, you might lose a soul level.

Thank you very much. I guess that's what happened then. I was helping people, and their phantoms usually killed me. lol

Mini-Rant:

80,000? Seriously? You think that is a lot? Try 250k+ for a level and you know why I don't use my red soul sign anymore.

Also beware of asshole hosts that summon you as a blue phantom and then soul sucker you. I had that happen to me once, in 1-3. Got summoned, next thing I know, You Have Lost A Soul Level. He then summoned someone else as I was "leaving" the game, no idea how that turned out.

Wow...you can soul sucker allies? Brutal...Leave D ranks, lots of em. If he gets summoned to help a BP fight he might actually be enjoyable though.

really once you are soul level 200 there is no reason to team up anymore. You know the game and by then you should have access to everything you could possibly need to do basically anything by yourself. It is just too risky to team with others considering you could lose a quarter to a half mil souls for one tiny error or getting summoned by the wrong guy.
