this is the first game that really punishes people for getting killed and I just love it. Actually when I kill another player as a black phantom I purposely go get myself killed again so that I can become a phantom and kill even more players. Plus its just satisfying watching them run from me lol last person probably could of killed me cause she was higher lvl I could tell but she ran and fell off a cliff lol.

This man is the opposite of me. I always feel bad, and I mean really bad after killing some players. Last night I went to sleep feeling bad about a poor character struggling on 3-2 with his full brushwood armor, alone with no blue friends (should have been offline). I killed him in about 20 hits with my rapier, but the poor guy was just staggering the whole time. Hit, stagger, hit, stagger, hit, stagger, hit, stagger, hit, stagger.... I had to deplete my stamina on him twice, but that was enough. He never attempted to fight me. I'm not even sure he knew I had invaded his game.
Sad sad... :(

u got to kill an afk player? if only I would be so lucky. Life is a black phantom is rough with fewer hitpoints and also they usually have blue friends and they will mob you to death pretty quick and easy.

I haven't used the black eye stone yet, but I have been invaded by some very incompetent BPs. One BP kept jabbing at me with the Baby's Nail, not a bad tactic in theory, but I was wearing the Ragged Armor w/Three Corner Hat which has the best plague resistance in the game. Had he given me the plague it wouldn't have been a big deal as my item slots (online play) contain two levels of grass and all three lotus. You might give me a condition but it's not going to last :D.

He wasn't afk. He was facing me with his big brushwood shield up, he looks pathetic. I felt bad because he was trying to fight, but never even got a swing in I don't believe.

Anyone can be a black phantom, basically is for training reason for individual players.
The fun part of BP is you put yourself in so much disadvantage that its always sweet to take out the host & 2 blue phantoms.
And, if you feel bad about invading people, 4-1 or World 3 Monk Boss, is the place to be. Most host there are prepare for invader, and kinda take it as a pvp arena. So is all fair.
Happy BP'ing.
*BP'ing is bad for health, as you get so blood thirsty once your good at it.

I will edit that.
*BP Hunting is bad for your health, as you will get so good at it that the game will become boring when there is no poor little BP to torment.

If you level up enough I can pretend to be afk right before I kill you.

LOL! Give you a head up, if you can play BP well, you can play Host better.
BP mode is merely a harder pvp condition in comparison with host.

First to punish people for dying?
Game Over screens weren't enough?
Diablo 2 losing XP and Gold doesn't count?
Losing Levels in FFXI?
I do think some parts of their online systems are awesome...I just have lots of issues with their lack of flexibility.
I'll never use a red stone because I don't like gambling, I avoid the black stone because unless your death blow comes FROM a person you lose a soul level. I also don't enjoy pvp much so I only use the black stone to go on a killing spree in peoples levels, and completely ignore them.

I like the thrill of the hunt when I get invaded or spend time as a BP. Setting up ambushes or stalking someone without them knowing. I don't care if I win or lose which is good because I generally lose.

There's also Eve Online. You can lose everything you have (well exept the money in your wallet) in one bad day. If you get killed, I mean pod killed, and if your clone wasn't up to date you can lose all your skill points. The amount of skill point is in some way the level of your caracter and the learning is time based. If you put all your money in your brand new uninsured ship ... well lose it and you are f**kt. Restart it from the beginning.
Thrust me, losing some Souls level or souls to a BP isn't a big deal (and a new concept)

eve online yea well I couldn't even figure out how to play it. Demon souls is a tough game to learn but I got the idea now I play it like a fighting game watching the enemies learning their moves learning the levels. I actually plan on mastering queens tower cause its the most complicated pain in the ass lvl perfect place to learn so that I can really kill other players on it.
oh yea what is a soul lvl and what does it mean if I loose it exactly. I'm thinking it means I loose an attribute point that I last increased.

soul level is just the name for a level in this game. since you up 1 stat by 1 point when you gain a level/soul level, if you lose a soul level, then it stands to reason that you would lose the stat point you got from it.

I killed 2 Black Phantoms singlehandedly in a run of 4-2 today.
Feels good man.

Whats the trick on rolling out of fire storm?
I know you can role out of it, but I always roll into a hit. Nowadays I just prefer to run out of range if condition allowed.

If you have armor on, you won't run back that far or as fast, so if you really want to avoid stuff like that, put on light clothing, like the leathers, etc, and hold down on the analog and roll back, you can roll faster, longer and more than once really quickly.
I remember when I first beat the game and started again in New Game +, instantly I had to fight a BP, I was like OH COME ON, luckily the guy sucked really bad, he made the mistake of taking out his bow and trying to dodge into a corner lolol so I continue on like normal for 1 whole min, I got another one! I was like NOOO cause I was out of spices for magic, the guy was about to beat me cause he had a heavy statima blow weapons, I had like 10 HP left, screaming NOOOOO and then He was out too and he was retreating! I was like "CHANCE" Stabbed him in the back and kept power stabbing hitting him till he died, I was like ok, no more BP, I'm starting a party going, so I invited the first blue msg I saw ont he ground.
He had his magic up pretty high, took out everything even the dragon that flies by in a few hits, so we didn't have to run by it, but he was just quickily running though without me and then ANOTHER BP came in, so I put on theif's ring so he couldn't find me and waited behind the corners, so he ran by me not looking behind, so I just wailed on him till I won.
I had to fight 2 more before we fought Phalanx, but they weren't as note worthing lol and for some reason, they're the only 5 I ever encounted in New Game +, I figured I would have saw tons more. I beat most of New Game + without dying too much and not another BP :( I was disappointed I like fighting against other people, so I'm glad I got the Red stone after getting the bad ending.

I've killed 3. I feel bad, but hey, don't leave your controller lying around when you're playing online. One guy even started moving when I found him hiding in one of the cells in 3-1 - like he noticed and tried to react...
yeah, 3 vs 1 battles is the only reason i'm considering permanently adding firestorm to my repertory of spells. I wish there were ways to summon allies as a black phantom, like you're allowed 1 if they have 2, or something.

light eq is a given in all pvp'er, question is, I've heard so many people claiming is possible to avoid hit in a firestorm zone (as in rolling inside a firestorm, not out of a firestorm). Thus just wondering whats the trick or is just boosting.

I had some weird experience yesterday. I used my blue stone for trying the coop mode for the first time. I was in front of the door of the boss in 3-2 (Tower of Latria - Boss Maneater) and I got summoned as a BP in someone's realm. A weird creepy guy put a big yellow turban on my head. It was an easy fight because the player was in plate with the executionner's axe and a shield. He charged, I side rolled then hit him twice with my halberd using both hand. He retreated for healing via a miracle. I finished him while he was casting. That was fun ... but erg ... I really liked the BP experience but I wanted to do some co-op.
So why does I invaded someone's realm using my blue stone? I used it two more time, one I got in co-op but the host fall of a cliff in less than 2 minutes and the other time I've been sommuned as a BP like the first time.

That's known as the Old Monk event, he can summon ANY phantom that has used a stone in world 3, regardless of how far into world 3 you are.
If you wanna be helpful you just let the person kill you...you lose nothing. Winning gives you body form and a chance to get that crazy tornado hat the Old Monk put on you.

I noticed that my CT is consistently pure white. I think it must be the BP's that invade me. Because, the first things I did in my NG+ were killing the blue warrior by the archstone, kill Ostrava, then Doran, and I'm still pure white...
So, thanks BP's, I will now add another point to Faith and start using the Demonbrandt :)

LOL, sounds like me. On NG+ on my Hunter, I was serially invaded around 6-7 times in 1-3, then another 6-7 times in 1-4. Easy pure white CT I suppose :D

Ah, another hunter, that must be it :)
I am still using my axe for a lot of stuff. It's actually pretty quick, and the roll attack with that nice diagonal slash at the end is extremely useful! Will upgrade to Dragon+5 (note to purist rpg geeks: I'm aware. It doesn't scale. It's all good!) as soon as I unlock Ed this playthrough.

So I just got this game on Monday. It's great! Just last night, however, I was playing in 2-1 and when I came upon the first of those fat magician guys, suddenly I was attacked by a red phantom. This guy came from nowhere and I really should have beat him but the magician guy surprised me and the fact that the red phantom was not being attacked by npcs... well, I died by fireball. Anyway I have to ask, where did this guy come from?? I know black phantoms can invade (never seen one, only an npc BP) but I thought reds are for duels... At least that's what the red stone I just got says... so what gives? Do BPs show up as red? Only other red phantoms I've seen are the 2 in the tunnel which drop the red stone... obviously they're npcs. The one who invaded me was most definitely a player, he saluted when I died. Oh also, I got all my souls back from my bloodstain.

You got the game on Monday and already have the red stone? Could it be you mean the black stone?
The black stone is for invading other worlds. And yes, while it's lame, a black phantom will use the NPC's to his advantage. So, when you get the message that you're being invaded don't go entering new areas. Clear out an area and find good fighting territory. If you want you can look for some blue soul tags to summon some phantoms. But I usually like to take them 1-1.
Also, if it says St Joe invaded you I am probably just exploiting some bug or will jump off a cliff to lose a soul level. Or I might be out of ephemeral stones and am out to hunt you. Who knows :)

I got the blue, black (from a black knight guy in the lava world with the exploding bugs), and red (from the 2 red phantoms in the tunnel) stones now... I'm guessing it was a regular BP. I didn't notice any warning about being invaded but I wasn't expecting it at all. Didn't really know how the multiplayer worked aside from all the little messages and bloodstains haha. Tonight I'll go invading and see how that works lol =P
