first I have a quick question. Why is it that when I equip dragon bone smasher I cannot run unless it is the only weapon in my inventory. Example there are four slots in inventory however dragon bone smasher has to be the only weapon if I try to put other weapons in the other slots along with dragon bone I get that movement penalty.

Also, I have noticed that it is possible to do some melee combos that the computer does. I did one on accident where my guy stabbed the ground with dragon bone after a fierce swing. fat politicians do this combo all the time with two handed axe along with throwing fireballs. REason I ask is that if my char can do one combo i'm assuming he can do all of them like the charging attack dark knights do with their polearms.

Unless you mean standing behind your Tower Shield poke-poke-poking everyone with your Scraping Spear, then no, not really. The resemblance of one attack to another is merely that, a resemblance.

1. Because the Dragon Bone Smasher is heavy and you probably don't have the equip burden to carry anything else.

2. No, a lot of mobs have their own unique melee attacks. It just so happens that the Dragon Bone Smasher has an attack that resembles the Fat Politicians's.

is the DBS *that* good? I want it because it looks cool, but really, is it more useful than, say... meat cleaver? or is it more effective than a spear?

How does it's defense hold up? I dunno. I guess I'm just trying to ask if it's really worth me getting it on my first playthrough, especially now that everything is all black :/

It's worth getting if you ever want that Plat trophy.

However, there really isn't a single end-all weapon in the game. So comparing different weapon types doesn't really work. It's up to you to experiment and die, to learn your own failings, and decide what weapon works to your strengths. Then you can work on making/finding one of the more powerful weapons of that class.

DBS and Cleaver are pretty even though in my opinion. It all depends on the character.

I will throw out that DBS is a little more versatile than cleaver since it has more combos and DBS is also much easier to top damage on since it only needs 1 stat. People should always find the weapons they like the feel of first though and go from there. Once you are a vet you can go back and make a new character designed for specific weapons.
