The only differences between the classes are the beginning stats and beginning equipment. Although a royal may be strong in world 1-1, you can change your stats and equipment in the later levels.
Classes are merely origins designed to give you a small jump-start in the desired direction. They have no real bearing on how you play the game, other than the first one or two areas. So no, while the Royal will make it easier to get into the game, once you clear a couple of areas, it'll feel no less difficult than any other class.

I dissagree,
I killed everything in 1-1, 1-2, 2-1, 2-2 with just 1 or 2 hits from soul arrow, in 3-1 you can kill the octopod dudes in 3 hits. After 3-1 I went to 4-1 and killed everything there in 2 hits. then 5-x (except the big guys)went down in 2 hits.
I find the royal to be extremely powerful bordering on almost making the game too easy. I know that you can build anyone to be anything, but just the royal build with soul arrow seems to kill everything.

Anyone can buy soul arrow for very cheap. It's a good spare spell for non magic users. My first char was a mage and I had a tough time on 1-1, but on my new thief, I breezed through it and didn't die till w3 (not counting suiciding for helping a friend)

thats basically what I was saying, anyone with a royal build (they raised their stats to match a royals) and with soul arrow (they bought soul arrow) will pretty much dominate the lower 8 or so levels of the game.

I got soul arrow for my mage and then did 3-1 and got fragrent ring, all the classes are the same when you finish 1-1.

I disagree with the level, but I agree with the concept, I think it takes clearing maybe 2-3 levels before you have enough souls to effectivly change your class. most people that I have talked to though get a mage if they want to do magic, they rarely get a mage if they want to build a tank. generally, you stick with a build close to that of your origin but with a slight deviation (maybe different armor, more dex for a bow... etc)

Huh, by your wording, it sounds like you're saying "Although the Royal starts out strong, you can spec them to suck hard as you level up."

thats what it sounds like, but I think it meant you can spec anything to do the same, so its not that great

Ridiculously enough, one just tore through me (SL96) with a miridan hammer as if I had no armor or shield at all. Sweet balance!
