Okay.

What weapon has captured your heart?

What weapon caught your eye the moment you saw it?

The weapon you cant stop using even if it isnt the strongest in the game?

Basically, what is your favourite weapon? and why.

Mine, rune sword - i liked it the moment i saw ostrava with it, nice and gold :D

gooooo.

Large Sword of Moonlight. For a long times King's Field fan it is a no brainer. Added into that it is one of if not the coolest looking weapon in the game in my opinion. Now if only I could shoot massive explosions of pure energy out of it like I could in KF....

going solely on looks, i would say the same as karkarov, the large sword of moonlight. going on actually being useful to my spec? either the mirdan hammer or uchigatana.

Still haven't made it that far in the game (taking my time), but so far I'm in love with the Kris Blade. Not only does it look awesome, but I'm a magic user character so it also helps my spells.

Large Sword of Moonlight hands down. It reminds me of FF7's Ultima weapon. Just wish i could throw down some Meteorain from it lol. Other weapon I really like is the Estoc, only when using a shield for riposte. I just like to stab with a actual stabbing weapon. Feels BA to stab someone in the face.

Either the Spiral Rapier or the Flamberge for me. They are tied as my favorites.

Damage wise, at my current point, is Blueblood Sword + Light Weapon. I think I 4 shotted Tower Knight on NG++ :D

Looks wise, Large Sword of Moonlight is nice, but I actually think Morion Blade is a pretty neat looking sword as well.

EDIT: And, for the poster above me, Kris Blade can be found right before the elevator that goes down to Armor Spider in 2-1. Just walk up a little platform, and it's sitting up there.

I am a big fan of straight swords mainly because of the 2 damage types they deal (Pure Physical[R1] and Pierce[R2]) and being a Knight it fits my character look/style. Straight swords are the way to go (IMHO) for a sword & board fighting style and the Blueblood sword has turned out to be a perfect mate to my Purple Flame Shield +10 (OMG 82 Hit Resistance!!)

Like a true love story, the moment I picked up the Blueblood sword I have not been able to let it go. It is just too useful to my character build (yah, I boosted my luck stat early and it kinda paid off with this sword). It does decent damage on its own and is able to be enhanced by Turpentine(item), Black Turpentine(item), Sticky White Stuff(item), Enchanted Weapon(spell), Light Weapon(spell, love this one) and Cursed Weapon(spell).

Plain Greatsword takes my love.

I'd love the meat cleaver alot if it had a few details changed...like blood only showing up if you had evil ct, and if the handle didn't look like a piece of concrete and rebar.

Crescent Falchion and Pureblood sword. Hands down my two most constant weapons. Even with a low luch stat Pureblood does some great damage, and I've just always had a thing for Falchions.

As looks go, the Large Sword of Moonlight does look pretty beasty though.

I Have to say for my build the sticky comp long bow, Hiltless and blind works flawlessly, 23 bp fights and lost 3 with 5 D/C cord pullers when they saw they were loseing. But for looks i would say the Lava bow, It just looks so brutal, Iam a huge bow fan and it looks like something out of a metal bands music videos.

I'm enjoying my Meat Cleaver a lot. I have quite a few stats in Faith/Strength/Dex already, so it works out well. I also have a lot of fun with my +5 Baby's Nail, and I feel a lot less cheap using it than I do using Death Cloud.

Oh, and my Sticky Compound Long Bow +4 combined with Rotten Arrows is really fun when I get the chance to use it in PvP. Always good for some rage.

I understand completely. There was a while there where I felt bad for using it, and wondered if I was only doing well because I had a cheap weapon. Then I invaded 2-1 and went up against a Host Player and Blue Phantom with Meat Cleavers of their own.

I beat them both pretty hard, and that made me feel a lot better about my doubts. I continue to run into people with them, both when I invade and get invaded myself, and I (generally) win. I would like to look into a faster, smaller side-arm of sorts that will still make use of the same sort of stats. Any suggestions?

It is a very strong wep so if you can use it right then victory is in the bag.

What kinda build do you have? if you have high dex then sharp weapons give you bonuses i think...

In 1-3, in a tight space ( the place with the ninjas and the fireball which gets pushed down on you) I was a blue phantom and was at the front - here comes meat cleaver from ahead.

I try to roll away to a open space but the other stupid blue phantom and the host are trying to attack the guy with a meatcleaver in a vey tight space ( idiots ) that leaves me trying to roll backwards and them trying to go forwards - meatcleaver dude attacks and kills us all.

You'd think that, but I'd love to prove otherwise. The Cleaver has a nice AOE attack that takes a lot of people by surprise when my agile character rolls up to them and hits them.

I don't know how many times I've had a Katana/Straight Sword/Curved Sword user combo me, thinking they have me beat, when they run out of stamina right on the last swing that would have put me over. At which point I floor them with the cleaver, pop a full-moon grass and roll to meet them as they're standing. Tap R1 while rolling next to them. Fight over.

Feels good man.

I have died by the meat cleaver twice, but I have beaten it probably 4-5 times. the majority of the time if I dodge it I forget about the aoe and I take a nasty hit from that, but a well timed dodge and a well placed firestorm(that might not be the spell i'm thinking of, I am horrible at magic names) will wipe out the meatcleaver dude who is stuck in this 2 second long recover animation.

lol firestorm

I love when people try to use that. Granted, its killed me a couple times before, quite spectacularly I might add, but for the most part, people over-estimate it.

I once invaded 2-1 in a game with a host that had 2 blue phantoms with him. We exchange a few hits, we get mutually messed up. We all retreat to our proverbial corners to recover. So then we start fighting again. BOTH of his Blue Phantoms try to pull off a firestorm, when I pretty far away. They uselessly wasted the MP and time doing that, while I 2-shotted the vulnerable host.

those who spam it are messed up, but if you can get the timing right, anyone with a meatcleaver dies because they spend so long recovering.

Actually anyone who spams basically anything is messed up... though not necessarily bad... button mashers used to always beat me in fighters because they were so random in their attacks, but eventually you will see that they cant seem to attack low and because of that you kill them. Same applies here, find out what they are spamming, if its short range just stay back until they waste all their MP. Or snipe them with your bow xD

You guys know the meat cleaver has no move the great sword and DBS don't have right? The only exception is it's single three hit combo. Meanwhile the Great Sword and DBS have three two hit combos. Also the only difference between the three hit and one of the two hits is there is a third swing.... otherwise they are just about identical. I think the Cleaver version is more prone to knock you down while the great sword version knocks you back though.

I don't know, I fought a guy who seemed pretty handy with it. He even hit me a few times in the course of the battle, which went on for like 15 minutes+. I usually keep people at a distance, since I prefer to throw spells, but his dark silver shield and ability to take cover and run away kept him alive. If I see someone rolling or charging me with a big weapon like that, I keep my distance, move in after they make a few swings and kill them with a much faster weapon. Or just range them with spells and kill them in 1-4 shots. Pretty regularly. But I'll keep tryin'....

I really like the look of the kilij--goes well with gloom armour. :D I'm in NG+ and it's still +3 sharp (I have many shards of bladestone, but no chunks). In the first playthrough, it was extremely effective in worlds 3 and 5 (especially in 5, because of the enemies' weakness to slashes).

Do it during the roll not after it ends. There is also specials for attacking during a flat run. Bear in mind all these are done with a press of R1, there is no R2 variant for these moves.

Unfortunately it's really hard to top an S/S/-/A statline from a "Great Sword" allthough the meat cleaver is technically a "Large Hammer"...pretty goofy lookin hammer to me.

I've heard the istarelle is pretty good but I haven't gotten it yet.

Karkarov
11-03-2009, 02:57 AM
The istarelle is a faith stacking spear. It's str and dex bonus are standard generic spear bonuses. Do not expect high damage out of it. In fact it's damage based on the +5 stat line will be downright abysmal. It does give massive plauge and poison resist though.

Honestly if you are stuck on meat cleaver because you can't handle needing to hit a mob two times instead of one your only realistic other options are all variants of the great sword, great axe, a dozer axe, or a DBS.

Curse doubles base weapon damage? So it's the spell that makes Dozer Axe worth 22 pounds to equip! I was sure there would be something to make the huge base damage and no stat adds playable at some level.

I thought that spell just added 50% add to the total. I guess that's just how it usually plays out.

I'll save it for my Thief character. He's DEX-based but just strong enough to 2h Dozer, making the Cursed Dozer damage really really disproportionate to his actual abilities.

How so?

The cleaver has S bonus on Dex and Str...so as you increase Dex and Str, the power of the cleaver increases. Northern Regalia has a fixed bonus based on character tendency.

Not to mention the Cleaver can be enchanted and does magic damage from the Faith Stat, so it still causes damage through shields...not much but more damage is more damage.

I'm still only around high 60s atm..
I really, really like my Dragon Halberd, but unfortunately its almost impossible to use in most levels becuase of its 'wide arc' attacks. Most of the levels are almost entirely 'in-doors' (from what I've seen) and that Halberd needs wide open space.

Course, +fire Halberd only works on things that are weak to fire, but man, it does some DMG. And the 'weak attack'? That does more damage then the strong attack! (the strong attack ony hits everything in a 360 radius of you.)

Other than that, theres my Winged Spear. I was going to make it a scraping spear but I ate that soul... IT was tasty dammit!

Spear is really really good, but it pales in dmg compared to my halberd and my Dragon Scimitar. Really gotta put some magic or fire dmg on that scimitar..

I do have a long compound bow I plan to get up there.
I never use one particular weapon, theres always a time and a place for them...
My Dragon Scimitar though, has virtually become my creme de'la crop. ITs fast, it HITS hard, and doesn't leave me open for very long with my purple flame shield +5. if I get my spear with some kind of magic dmg on it, I'll be invincible! :P

The white bow is a great bow for beginner archers. Master archers use sticky compound longbow+5. But until you've got some dex it won't beat the white bow...it doesn't take alot of dex though. 30ish will easily beat white bow.

Meat Cleaver and Sticky+5 with their S ratings in dex made me pamper the dex stat...which I never figured I'd care about the dex stat.

My personal favorite weapon at the moment (for single-player, at least) is actually my Large Sword of Searching. There are weapons with higher damages and better scaling, but its range is solid, the damage is respectable, it swings very quickly and there is virtually no delay in transitions from most attacks into follow-ups. Additionally, the animations look really neat, particularly when chaining two-handed R2 strikes.

I'm fond of the fact that it has vertical overheads for tight quarters as well as wide, sweeping arcs that clear out hordes of goblins, too. All in all I've really become fond of this thing.

large sword of moonlight. Lets see a shield block that sword.

Give Blind a shot. Smaller, faster, and capable of swinging eight to ten times without killing your stamina. ^_^ It's not magic damage, though, in defense of the Large Sword of Moonlight.

Right now for my mage I'm using a +5 Crescent Uchigatana when I need a melee weapon. It's and has ok power. I would of made a Moon version but I'm pretty sure I'm not going to get any Pure Moonlightstone this run. I also think the Uchigatana just plain looks cool. Then again I run around with the Monk Head-wrappings so I still look like a total fool.

I love swords, I have 3 different one's I use

Dragon Long Sword +5, Demonbrandt & I just finished making a Crushing Knight Sword +5.

I see in the long run that my Crushing Knight Sword will end up being my Best Sword, but because my Strength is only 30 right now my Demonbrandt is my most powerful Sword.(480 Dam)

Also I'm in the process of making a Blessed Long Sword(Currently +2)

When I finished the Game, I plan on making the North Regalia.

IMO if you want a powerful sword its best to take a Long Sword or knight Sword & turn it into a crushing +5 Sword & put a lot of levels into your strength. The Speed & Damage that you will get is Great.

I've been mainly using the Crescent Falchion +4 (curse you Pure Darkmoonstone!) and Lava Bow. Once I get my Dex to a decent level, I'll probably switching to my Tearing Uchigatana +5 and Sticky Compound Longbow + 5.

And in response to meat cleavers; on my level 150-160 ish character (can't remember), my meat clever is only 3 damage higher than my moon uchigatana.

Just out of curiosity, is 409 total damage (magic and slashing) of my moon uchigatana for my lvl 150-160 character GOOD? I've actually come across many meat cleaver users who hit less than my uchi does.

Penguin_Ass
11-11-2009, 09:35 PM
Don't discount the Cleaver because the Uchigatana can do as much per hit with your build. Using the Cleaver I can rape heavy enemies like the gold skeletons or red-eyed knights by flooring them and landing several overheads before they can get back up. That alone makes it an insanely worthwhile investment for situational purposes.

(You can do the same thing to stupid invading players if they're not really fast to react to the first hit.)

I LOVE my Moon Winged Spear+5! I'm in NG+ and I've completed all the PWWT and PBWT events in my firts way trhough so I have almost every weapon in the game (the only missing is the Morion Blade and the Needle of eternal agony) and obviously I tried every cool sword, mace.axe, falchion, etc but I can't get over my beloved spear...you don't have to lower your shield and if you are in thight spots like ledges or clifs (tower of latria anyone) you're not going to suffer accidental falls by your weapon animation. Also the R1 attack doesn't consume much stamina and you have a long reach...as I said before I Love this weapon!

If I have to pick one only by the looks I think that the Blind Sword and the Bramd Mace are my favourites...tha bramd looks like you can slain a dragon with one hit! Total baddass

The Northern Regalia... it just looks so... regal! :D

Seriously, I think its a great weapon to use up until around SL 200 since it can out-damage most others. I also like the fact that its swings are lethal in pvp, mostly because most players cannot evade in all the freakin' lag. :P

Yup, I love the Regalia.

I have different favorite weapons for each of my characters.

Temple Knight (male)- +5 Blessed Halebeard. I made him specificaly becouse his origine started with a Halebeared, one of my all time favorite all time weapons. Second favorite for my Temple Knight is +4 Blessed Great Sword that will be +5 once I get him into new game+, I will only farm Faintstone chunks/pures in pure black world for so long.

Royal (female)- +4 Cresent Kilijit soon to be +5 once world tendancy is droped to pure black and the lizzards decide to drop them. The Other weapon I want to get on her is a +5 Mercurial Spiral/Curved rapier. Piercing weapon with psn and bleed yes please when I need to sheild wall.

Hunter (female) - +X Moon Winged Spear only magic damage she has. +5 Sticky Composit Longbow for damage. However I love the look of the Whitebow but she lacks the stats to use it. Magic mostly used for defense/healing.

Knight (male) - Currently working to get a +X Crushing/Blessed Knights sword. Crushing will serve dps better but the blessed will help by not needing as meny healing items. I intend for him to have minimal magic. But I Suspect that I will fall in love with the Blue Blood Sword once he aquires it.

Very happy with my Sharp Kilji +4.
With my playing style I depend on getting in the first strike.
The slower attack speed of the Uchi really hurts me here, so I'm sticking with the Kilji.

Yes, it is very good. In the time a MC scores one hit, you can swing the Katana 3 times. You do the math.

Fast weapons are a lot more powerful in this game if the wielder is halfway skilled.

Slow weapons are usually "easier" to use in PVE because of the stagger/knockdown effect and for PVP everyone is looking at the big number. Not to mention it's flavor of the month (has been on the JP server too) to use regalias because the nearly non-existant stat requirements.
