It is this tuesday yes at 8pm EST. Bear in mind it is one fight at a time so there will obviously be some waiting etc. If you are central time that should be 7pm, mountain it is 6pm, and pacific it is 5pm.

I am hoping there aren't many "last minute" people so I can at least have a qausi decent sign up list and plan fights in advance. Also it would be nice if everyone who signed up shows up too :P!

Bump, tournament is tonight at 8pm. Again you absolutely must have me on your friends list for PSN if you want to participate. I am building my registration list from there not this forum because the PSN id's are what I need to communicate with in actual game.

Please remeber also this will be a fairly decent size tournament if all goes well, only so many people will get to fight early, have patience, stay av available! I will be using a vent server this time as well that info will be given out later.

Last thing, I have made a slight rules notation regarding hyper mode so please check it if you have any intention of using it. All rules are in the first post on page 1.

Thanks to Karkarov for hosting this fun event and everyone that participated. It was truly a great and competitive experience. There were some minor wait time between different pairing but Karkar was patient to work out the kinks to get things going.

All the players were competent and not allowing pre buff did encourage different style of play. (like Slegan/Tochi's fast rush) I know I'll see everyone again during next tourney, gg Tochi, Astro, Shift, and AfQ

lol if it makes you feel any better the next match against shift my dagger didnt hit in time and then I lost to the hyper pole. Im surprised you trusted me in the 1st place:devil:. Next time i wont do the rush because thats kind of what finished me. I put shift in hyper mode to fast and then got caught in the pole lock oh well you live u learn the funny thing is i spent lots and lots of time practicing against cyon and a couple others hyper poles too my success against the hyper pole has been my quality gaxe and before I was able to switch to it shift got me so props for jumping on my mistake so fast.

PS. Shift you said anytime any place so lets do this ill add u on PSN again for my sweet sweet revenge haha. Ill just invite you to the dueling chat because there me and leAFQ and cyon play all the time along with many others so its a great place to practice.

Actually he rushed Decay harder than he rushed Shiftcutal. Your fight with LeAFQ was one of the best in this tourney though. I think it was the longest too, most of them were over in around 40 secs to a minute.

Well my plan was underway shift started off with his katana so thought sweet this is gonna be fun I took him down to less than 30% health and then he switched to his pole and i expected that. But what i didnt expect was to get caught in a 5 hit combo that fast usually you can at least roll away but for the 1st time in a while I got caught in the entire combo. My plan was to roll away and then switch to my gaxe I feel like I got pretty unlucky but hey it is what it is and you deserve credit for winning any match I know you made LeAFQ very happy be defeating me because all day he said I was gonna beat him but we never played lol. Anyways enjoy it because next time your mine shift! :devil:

PS. Stevetheladybug is a pretty good pvper although I have to say LeAFQ is one of the better guys in the chat he is the only person in the last month who has beat me without a pole weapon literally, thats one of the reason i like him that and he lives in canada too. Although from what I hear he was using hyper also LeAFQ if ur reading this im disappointed in you hahaha jk you gotta do what u gotta do Im glad you showed at least 1 hyper pole who's boss.

Yea I dont like poles obviously but the one thing I have the biggest problem with in pvp is hyper mode. Considering most people will never have more than 1600hp. So considering with hyper most people can do anywhere between 600-1200 dmg its kind of ridiculous for pvp if u ask me it ruins it, it also makes for ####ty viewing from what I have read all of the matches were under a minute and thats because of hyper mode im guessing. I think its a lot more fun to duel without hyper and skill prevails more often than not.

I had warding if u were not in hyper mode i would have survived all 5 hits guaranteed and then it would have been a whole new game. Its also very easy to heal when have warding cast because of how much it lowers dmg. Im not gonna say I would for sure have won because thats not fair to say but I for sure would have survived that combo. Dying or coming away with 10% health makes all the difference I can think of countless games where I won after being at 5% health only to escape eat a new moon and come back. Its not as if u back stabbed me or anything so it would have been pretty easy to get a new moon in.

oh lol totally thought u were talking to me. If u didnt even get hit then obviously hyper mode had nothing to do with ur win over curtis I hope u see how that was misleading. But yes I was the one who put you into hyper mode.... lol i guess i should have taken it easy on you and calculated exactly how much damage i was gonna do before I hit you and stop just before 30% then finish you before u have a chance to heal. Most of the rules I discussed them over with other forum users way back before the first tournament. At the time the original suggestion was 5 which a bunch of us felt was too few but 10 seemed like too many. We were concerned fights would turn into grass fests which no one wanted and at least in my experience the guy who had to constantly grass ended up losing anyway normally. So 8 just seemed like a good middle ground. I was actually surprised how little effort was given to heals in this last tourney.

I might up it to 10 depending but I don't really want to go higher than that.

Hyper mode is where you use one of two (or both) items and they give you a massive boost to damage when you are at low health. The items in question are the Clever Rat's Ring and the Morion Blade. You can see the morion blade on the backs of a few fighters in the second tournament vids. It is the silvery colored sword with the two spines going up the handle.

Ah. Thanks! I've used the Clever Rat's Ring as the BP Old Monk, and was quite impressed, but never the morion blade.

I was dueling with some people lately and now most people will have warding in case they lose there SC which can make the matches take a veeeeeery long time. Just yesterday me and Maly321 or w/e his name is had a match that took sooo long we ended up stopping and starting again deciding to use no grass at all. Im not suggesting we use no grass in tourney but I was going to suggest maybe less grass like 3. Just an idea because once you cast warding for the most part its very very easy to spam grass basically guaranteeing all 10 will be eaten. Im VERY surprised how fast the last tournaments matches ended considering how long my normal fights last with the same players on a daily basis. Other than shift our matches always end fast it seems. Even against a fatal weapon its worth eating grass even if u know ur gonna get back stabbed because of how little damage it actually will do. So im not sure if everyone will agree with this but I think maly will at least :)

Yes its outrageously hard to finish someone off when they can hide behind warding and eat grass. Im not saying ban warding or anything but from my experience limiting the grass to a low number is reasonable. Warding does not last that long after all.

Yes Karkarov is my psn id. Also I should point out this tournament while still scheduled may be delayed due to a major problem I am having with my capture card after it upgraded it's firmware a few days ago. I am waiting to hear back from the manufacturers tech support and hope to have this resolved in time but I unfortunely may not.

It seems a lot of things are banned for no good reason. Maybe I'm just not experienced enough to know, but why are God's Wrath, Firestorm, Blind, Large Sword of Moonlight, and Thief's Ring banned? They all have their downsides that seem pretty fair. Blind, for instance, does about half the damage of other dex weapons. LSoM swings *very* slowly. Thief's Ring has to compete with other rings. God's Wrath takes a full 3 seconds to cast and is very difficult to get off. Etcetera.

What downside does thief ring have exactly? Also, firestorm and godswrath could kill the host. If you get knocked down and then get fsed or godwrath the fight ends unless you're lucky, this is the pro tourney, luck shouldn't be a factor. (Exceptions include who you're set up against or if they make a mistake.) Hmm, edited didn't see your reason, you say that thief completes with others but all you have to do is run out of range to heal and be invisible it's really the best ring to use if you think about it, this also makes you hard to tape if you're the red.

All stealth abilities are illegal if you didn't notice. The point of the tourney is to mix it up and fight a one on one duel. Too many people were discussing using a max stealth style so thier opponent would literally need to be on top of them to see them. Since it is my tournament and I felt that type of play defeats the whole point of the tournament I banned it.

Every other thing you complained about is explained in painstaking detail in almost a dozen different posts I am not going to say it again. Browse the thread or read the first post, the answers are there.

Lastly Large sword of moonlight swings at the same speed as every other large sword, not sure what game you are playing.

Also update, my capture card is still giving me issues. The tech support has been unresponsive at best. I will update as the day goes on.

There was 3 finalists in the round robin. It was exactly like karkarovs second tournament with 12 players and 3 finalists. The 3 finalists were Me, Maly and True-Remembrance. I managed to get 1st maly second and true 3rd.

Yeah last night I had to postpone for a number of reasons but primarily because my card was still non functional. It works and everything it just can't capture video, I know that sounds weird but you would have to own one of the things to understand ;p.

Thanks to Mirazel we still had another tournament with 12 players. Kind of like the second one kark hosted. There were a few problems and he didnt record every match. But he did record the second round matches and the grand final round robin.


So the 12 people who PvP together every day PvP'd together.

No one outside of that circle would have had a chance in this tournament anyways, it takes patience and coordination amongst everyone to hold a successful tournament.

I am getting my new computer components in the mail today. I am hoping that by updating some old tech in my current pc and doing some fresh installs (I had to ugrade my windows anyway was using the 7 beta) I can get the capture card alive again.

This just in, we are finally a go on the capture card with the install of a new mobo and some bios updates everything is up and running again and so far it is more stable than it used to be on it's best day. Could you guys look into doing like low soul level duels? I'm just guessing that would be tons of fun, and not much grinding/equipment required.

Since most weapons you pick up and can equip at SL4-6 can't 1 or 2-hit KO unless you did some serious grinding for Dragon +5 or something.

I've been testing a lot often vs the newbies in 1-2, I've noticed that 99% of them, it takes like 7 1hand hits in order to die from starting HP. The average can only do 4 or 5 swings before running out of stamina. Pole users are still a bit complicated though, it's 4 hits and can be done.

No you just need to send me a friend request on PSN if you haven't already. For this one I won't have an actual sign up because the initial delay coupled with the short notice of the reschedule forcing another sign up just seems like a bit much. If you are on my friends list all you really need to do is be online a bit before the start time and be playing DS. If you are I will invite you.

Just remember you still have to be 120 and have a red eye stone etc etc.

No there is no membership or whatever involved. You need to send a friend request on PSN to Karkarov (AKA me) and be available and playing demon's souls at the appointed time. The rules for the tournament are all on the first post of this thread and no they aren't optional or up for discussion.

Also the tournament is tomorrow night at 8pm EST. Again no registration will be required this time but please bear in mind I have no idea how many people will show up. This means getting things started could take some real time here so don't expect fights to be starting at 8:10pm.

No need to start a console war here. I could say things about my 360's, but I will leave them out of this. It clearly isn't just a date issue, seeing as though none of the slim's are affected, unless of course they had already fixed the issue in the slim version's. The old "fat" PS3's hardware is telling it that today is 2/29/10, however there was no 29th of February this year because of the leap year nonsense. I don't think Sony can even fix this and I am willing to bet they are hoping it just goes away over night as all "fat" PS3's just tick over to 3/1/10 on their own. If this is the case though this just means this problem is going to happen again.

You can program firmware to fix the issue. The firmware is similar to bios updates for computers, where it handles the internal clock - the PS3 is essentially a computer itself. But with different sets of instructions for both slim and old versions due to varying components (Last I read on CNN, some Slim users even sent in mail saying that their slims are victim to said bug), it seems like that Sony is afraid of taking a "White Knight in armor" approach to fixing the problem.

I believe Sony's trying to take the 24 hour day shift thing whilst crossing their fingers that it works.

As long as you have synced recently you could lose all your trophies now during this issue, then once everything comes back online sync with the server and all of your trophies will be there leading up to your most recent sync. There is no need to keep your PS3 off during this. I am just playing Madden '09 to pass the time, maybe we will be lucky and see the network back up in time for the 8pm EST tourny, here's hoping :D.

I'm no tech junkie, but from what I understand, the internal clock thinks it's Feb 29th and the PS3 thinks it's March 1st. The conflict leads your PS3 to assume you're being hacked and therefore shuts down anything you've paid for that's downloaded (due to DRM or Digital Rights Management, i.e. games, content, movies, etc.), prohibits you from logging onto the network and has the ability to corrupt other data on your system.

Original tournament was tonight at 8 PM EST. I don't believe he has rescheduled in light of today's issue Midi.

Once the PS3 thinks it is a day that actually exists again it should fix itself, the key is the hardware thinks it is 2/29 and the software is saying 2/29 doesn't exist. Sony is obviously just praying it resolves itself which says exactly all you need to know about them IE: Incompetant.

Yeah so my match was incredibly disappointing, went against Pep and he hit me from 15 feet away, but even if that hadn't happened he would have gotten me. He was just way too fast for me and although I did hit him with one of my Soul Ray's it barely did any damage to him...sad :sad:

I think this one was definitely the best tourney I have done so far. We had 16 entrants and other than OmegaWeaponGeanC having problems connecting there was no issues or delays at any point. Everything was wrapped up by 10:40pm EST and we even had a third place playoff.

Yeah I don't feel as bad once I saw how fast pretty much all of Pep's matches were, he was just fierce with those dual uchi's. I was able to level my executioner up to 120 with pep's help after the tourny and I feel a little more confident with that build, also with some help from them on changing my gear a little. So I am ready for the next go around. It just sucks that I had to modify my equip, because my toon doesn't really have the Executioner look that I wanted anymore (due to the fact that From did a real bad job in making sure that equipment was balanced. I mean if you are wearing Brushwood that clearly slows you down, then it would only be logical by the weight and look that it would be much stronger than light armor to make up for the slow down. I just feel that they didn't balance the armor's properly.)

Everyones placement was fine for the most part. Being so far away that you can cast one of the slowest spells in the game successfully even if your enemy does a break neck rush is too far away. Again, if I didn't want casting buffs to be taking a risk I would simply allow pre fight buffs.

You need to also remember, the guy who rushed doesn't have any buffs either. Rushing in and of itself is a risk because if it fails you are likely to have little to no stam for a moment and no warding or SC to save you if your enemy unloads.

I just got this game about a month ago and am not 120 myself yet but I was just wondering when you plan on doing another one of these, I'd love to take part and hopefully have the time needed to get to 120 and learn the ropes of PvP. looks like a lot of fun and I hope to see some of you in the game.
