I doubt it's true. Sony are trying to make the PS3 last for as long as possible, they even said it wouldn't hit its peak until 2012 at one point.

Ten year lifespan on the PS3 :-D.
Which may be true since the PS2 is still chugging along almost ten years later.

I can't remember where I read it, but I've heard Atlus Japan is working on a console for the next generation. :o
Wow, two Sony threads started by the same guy on the same day...
Anyway, I've heard that the PS4 will use Betamax technology to maximize its performance. While the format will require more storage space, Sony insiders reassure their fans that building an extension to your current dwelling is worth it.

I doubt it. Sony spent a whole lot of money in R&D for the Cell. They're barely starting to make a profit from it, and already they are thinking of developing a new architecture and replacing the old one so quickly?
I expect the PS3 to at least last as much as the PS2, and look at how that is doing: it's been kicking for 9 years, and only barely now is aproaching the end of it's lifetime (when no games whatsoever is gonna be released for it).
By the way, have you heard about how awesome the soon-to-be-released PS7 is? Oh, and check out that PS9! :P

We are farm more likely to see a new Xbox first and I already know from a friend who is lets say... reliable for this, that there will be at least one more hardware revision of the 360 before they push the new Xbox out. So even that system won't be around until at least 2011 at the earliest.
