"Early reports from the Kingdom of Boletaria indicate that the Old One's power grows," announced Aram Jabbari, Manager of PR and Sales for Atlus, shuffling awkwardly under the weight of his full set of fluted armor. "We've discovered that the nefarious Demon will seek to descend the land in pure blackness on All Hallow's Eve. His minions will be more powerful, but the rewards for those who seek to challenge them will be greater as well. We don't know how long this dark tendency will last, but we do advise those prone to controller-into-LCD syndrome to proceed carefully." Jabbari then cackled as he quickly put a Thief's ring on his finger and disappeared.

I want to know this too. I have just gotten world 4 to near PW. I wanted to get Makoto and then I was going to hold off killing Satsuki, until I got the friend ring. I already killed him in BP form and the PD for that world, so getting back to PW will be a pain.

If they won't change back, is it just the worlds you go that get set to PB or all?

Don't worry, its just pure black tendency. You can do that regardless of your level, now defeating the black phantom NPCs is another matter entirely.

Also im kinda bummed if it really only is PBWT, I just used up alot of revive stones to get my WT to there and kill the BPs. No patch is required. The changes will be in effect on the server, which will change the Tendencies when you log into the game.

During a special event like this people will be focused on the new content not the old PvP that you can do anytime. This is a one day shot so if your grinding away trying to get cool stuff and constantly interrupted by invaders to me that puts a damper on the cool new content that is only out for a limited time.

Yes I know PvP is part of the game just be nice if people took it easy during limited special events that happen once a year... Just my opinion..

the game kinda tells you it is online when you log into your character. also you'll see bloodstains, messages, and be able to summon phantoms as well as be invaded. the usual fare for online on this game.

Just to be specific pure black WT increases drop rate, makes special black phantoms (named NPC and BP mobs) and primeval demons spawn, and also increases souls gained per kill. Beware though that as a side effect mobs (including invading players) hit harder and your hp bar in soul form is lowered further than usual.

Edit: Seems to be getting darker over time. Logged out and Logged back in after killing Satsuki to see if it would reset my WT to black, and it didn't, but the other worlds are darker I think.

There's a difficult element to this event based on how the game averages WT while online. Basically, as we defeat BP's, it shifts away from pure black, so Atlus has to push it back down. If you didn't get pure black, quit the game, and reload it a few times. It'll get darker each time you do until it's pure black. It's a little annoying at first, but I honestly don't think there's much Atlus can do as the Publisher. It's awesome they're even doing this much, and I'm thankful for it, personally.


(I dunno about you, but I've already gotten two items I really wanted, without wasting a single Ephemeral, so to say we're not getting anything is pure hogwash! :P)

Even if it isn't a PBWT, its closer than most of us Newer players have been, and makes it easier for us to be able to do the WT Specific encounters.

First thing i did was suicide twice so i could kill Satsuki (Which was the most fun i've had since starting this game. Farming for some Pure Bladestone and than moving onto the other NPCs)

I'm on my 5th restart and my tendencies are still a bit lower than neutral and not changing.

Having the same problem as the person above me. World tendencies went black one time then went back to a little lower than neutral and have stayed that way since. On top of all that, no online activity at all. No blood stains, no messages, no phantom shadows of people playing.. I've restarted a couple of times now.

What is going on? It's a bit frustrating because of the server not responding or something.. even though it says I'm online and in the server.

Their halloween event is setting the world on "EVIL REIGNS SUPREME" mode so all the bad monsters are more powerful, and your gimped up.

In the Boletaria archstone...avoid going into the gate/arch on the left side, and avoid any armored dudes with "Red Eyes" till you've gotten some skill and levels.

As a Canadian I'm a bit confused.. I bought this game from EB october 7th.. our usual one day late compared to the US. In any case you should be fine tonight as long as you play carefully. Your character will likely collect a fair bit more souls though!

As a Canadian I'm a bit confused.. I bought this game from EB october 7th.. our usual one day late compared to the US. In any case you should be fine tonight as long as you play carefully. Your character will likely collect a fair bit more souls though!

Yeah, that fixed the WTs in my case. Had to quit and log back into the game completely to get PBWTs for all.

lol i hear ya. i went from 130 to 150 today on just farming my pure bladestone.

Getting 50K a pop using Soulsucker on the Skele alone(And 65K for each run in NG+) was worth it. While I was happy about him finally dropping it after about 35 tries, a part of me was bummed out.... :D

You aren't the only one not getting the pure black event to work. I've logged in and out 4 different times and it's still white. I even had the server drop me out of the game at one point. I thought you could be at any point of the game to get this to work.

I finally got it to work. I had to create a new character, then load the character I wanted to play, suicide in Nexus twice and restart another 3 times before the black kicked in.

if you want something bad enough you work until you get it. do you get fed up because you can't get that new "insert expensive item of your choice" in seven hours worth of work? do you give up and quit because you can't get it? no. you keep working until you can get it. just because you have to spend a lot of time grinding for it, it will be worth it in the end. hell you could always do what i did with buttfedora. i had a sharp uchi+5 that i made only for the trophy. he had some +5s i needed the trophy for. we did a trade and now he's slaughtering things with a dex build and +5 sharp uchi. find somebody who isn't using one and has one and trade for it.

ya, im just going to shut up about it now....i dont mind working for things, i know thats how the world works....but when it comes to a video game idk to me 7 hours of work is borderline wtf status lol.....ive remade the guy and im trying 1 more time to get it, now when you say when you heard RPG you instantly thought of grinding.......well when i heard of Demon's Souls i instantly went to its wiki and saw that if i wanted so and so ore i could get it from the geckos in this area for this and it seemed to cover all bases on the surface....as easy as, and i heard the drop rate was 100% i just didnt know the details about this and it didnt apply to pures but to me it didnt mean grinding at the time......so i got extremely excited (the page told you the ores and it told you where the exact gecko was that dropped it, and i never saw it say sometimes you might not get it)

i like having trophys for the games i like ya, but really being a person thats all about pvp i just really need it for that, and i want it for the tourney a difference of 2 damage or 10 damage can be the difference in the W or the L.....i THINK i have found the perfect weapon for pvp i fail to see any major weaknesses in it and the few minor ones i do see i dont think will bite me in the butt most of the time, if ever

Well, even though I'm no expert player. I may not even be an average player. But I just go to other players' worlds and help them out against bosses I've already beat. Gathering souls, getting my level up. Because those red-octopus-head gaurds are a pain.

Anyone having problems logging in to Demon's Souls lately?

The game has been taking at LEAST 10 minutes to log in. When I go to my character selection screen the pic of my character is just blank. It's a black square. Then when I choose to log in it's a black screen. I come back to type on my computer and FINALLY after 10 minutes the loading screen pops up and I'm finally in the game.

Has this happened to anyone else?

This was very helpful: I was able to kill Miralda and Rydell (two black phantoms I skipped in the first playthough) in NG+, without using stones of ephemeral eyes. I also killed Satsuki to up my CT (I killed Ostrava the first time I saw him in NG+). Thank you, Atlus.

I'm having an interesting problem I believe, I have killed 2 primevil demons so far and have not received any kind of drop, loot, or even souls for the kill. Something tells me I should have, but maybe not.

In the strategy guide, it's explicitly stated that primeval demon drops aren't 100%.

To be perfectly honest, I don't think people are getting their tendency back. What they are probably going to end up doing is just give everyone neutral tendency.

I just realized that it isn't THAT hard. You can sneak past those goblins in 5-2, and in 4-2 you can "easily" defeat those crazy Black Phantom Skeletons as long as you are cooperating with someone. And you may be lucky enough to push them off the cliff, if loot isn't that important.

My problem right now is that the boss (Old Hero) in 4-2 is easy, except for the fact that he one hits you if you are in soul form. I have like 100k souls I need to use :(


Oh, and the octopus magicians in 3-3 are impossible to sneak past and you can't summon that early apparantly, so I'll have to wait with that.

I too loved this event. I went from SL 76 to SL 90 and got the phosforent pole and talisman of beasts also farmed plenty of darkmoonstone and upgraded my crescent falchion to +4 and beat the dragon god in world 2 all while wearing the ring of avarice. So again I loved this event. I am a grinding machine. Thank you Atlus.

I leveled my character like mad and got a whole bunch of new gear from named Black Phantom kills. Pure dark Shrine of Storms is brutally hard with all those black phantom skeletons. Made for some hilarious blue phantom stories and a huge sense of accomplishment when I finally got through.

There are different ways to change your WT. If they are pure black, then killing bosses, black phantoms or the Primeval Demons will push it towards white. If you are playing online, just wait a couple of days and you will see it creep towards white for you. If you are new to the game and are having issues with the event, I would suggest going to Stonefang Tunells or world 2. The Primeval Demon is very close to your entry into this world - Kill him and return to the Nexus and 2 will be a neutral tendency. It will at least give you the oppurtunity to play some levels and get some experience.

There is a bow on top of the second tower there(BTW, you can go under the bridge from the first tower to the second....) - It will help considerably if you get it and a couple hundred arrows to take down the Red Dragon. If you go on top of the first tower and look back towards the entrance, he becomes very easy - Just takes some time and 150-200 arrows. Your reward will be a huge boost of souls for a low level character.

I understand your frustration and how tough it is for new players. But, like I mentioned, try world 2 to level up and gain some experience from the game. If you are playing online, all your worlds should be out of PBWT in a day or two with some help from the community. Look at this way - You have already seen the game at it's hardest - It will only get better. Well, until NG+.... :D

Thanks, I tried using a crossbow... didnt seem effective so I've just been ignoring the dragon. I couldnt tell if i was hitting. I'll try using a different bow. I've made it across the bridge before but the black phantoms at the end kill me every time. If they were gone, I'm sure i could make it to the end again.

It's difficult to tell whether you are hitting him or not. But if you zoom in on the top of the archway of the entrance, his head will cross right across your path. Time your arrow and it will hit every time. You'll know if you are hitting in a couple of ways - First, you will see blood on his legs. Second, if you shoot the bow at the archway, you will see a spark where it lands - You can still see that spark as the dragon passes if you miss. It does take a lot of arrows.

If you take him down, using hit and run tactics on the Black Phantoms will be easy.

Will it become neutral? Because I also have the problem with pure black tendency. I just started (around SL 20-30s something), and i get 1 hit so much now than before, i want neutral tendency back :) Ive tried login in offline/online several times, loggin out offline/online, nothing happens..

No, I doubt that will happen. If you play online, your WT will eventually start to come up. Or, you could just get to work and start killing bosses, BP's and PD's if they are still at PB. As I wrote before, if you are having trouble with the event, go kill the PD in 2-1(You can get it done in all of 3 minutes - Enter the first tower with the rock throwing baddies and there is an opening on the right - Pull the lever to operate the elevator and head down) and return to the Nexus - This will get 2 to neutral and give you a world to level up. The bosses on 2-1 and 2-3 are very easy to beat - The 2-2 boss is generally considered on of the toughest - However, like all of them, he does have his weaknesses.....

I already killed the PD in 2-1 & BP Scirvir in 2-2. When I quit last night, worlds 2, 3 and 4 were either neutral or white in tendencies. I killed the PD's and named BP's in those. Worlds 1 & 5 are another story. They were black. So I guess I'll have my work cut out for me there. It's all good though. I was able to get up to around level 80 over the weekend.

If you read my posts on the previous page, you can see that I understand that it is difficult for new players. However, there are some ways to get around it for the time being. If he wants to take his ball and go home, he will be getting zero sympathy from anyone here.

If you wait a couple of days, it will level out. And, if you give this game a chance you will find an extremely rewarding experience. FROM and Atlus get their rocks off with the difficulty of the game and have made no efforts to conceal that fact. Yes, this event made it extremely difficult for new players, but it is what it is.

I can't wait for the release of DA:O either being a long time fan of Bioware games, but this game has definitely changed my expectations of what I want out of a RPG.

I imported this game to the UK, costing me £50 (~$80), and now it is broken. I only started playing it on Thursday, and now it I have spent hours trying to get past the bridge in 2-1, not realising what was happening with this 'event'.

All my worlds are pure black. I managed to kill miralda by luring into the pit, getting 1-1 back to what looks neutral, but quitting my game twice today (for valid reasons), and then returning has brought it right down to black again. Today. On the 2nd November. Three days after H'ween. Doesn't look like my old wt are coming back.

My only option would be to start again, but are they going to pull this trick again, and break my game once more? I have already invested loads of time and money in this game, and I'm *really* disappointed it has gone to waste.

This isn't Oblivion where you can skate through the game without ever dying - And I loved Oblivion. This game is designed to kill you. A lot. The game isn't broken. They have not screwed with the natural progression of things. They want to punish you. You complain, FROM smiles. It's the way it is. If you don't have the patience to play the game, then fine - But that is your issue, not the developers or publishers. There are people out there defeating the tutorial boss, so anything is possible in this game if you can just figure it out. Even new players should be able to get through 1-1 on PBWT - If you can't kill Miralda, stay away from her - Same with the Red-Eyed Knight. Heard. I just started a new character during the Halloween event, a knight, and the game is actually much much easier than when I played it through the first time on my Hunter.

I just feel like alot of people expect to be able to whip out a 2-hander, and just run through and hack and slash their way through every enemy, as opposed to fighting intelligently. If you stay behind your shield, and strike when the opportunity is right, the game is not difficult at all. If you run in LOLIMHITTINSTUFF, then you will, of course, die.

And I mean, if people have problems, you can always go to another level. Every world's first boss is INCREDIBLY easy, so getting WT out of Pure Black can't be that difficult.

But they should really fix this, for the sake of beginners. It's easy to criticize them for being foolhardy or whatever when playing the game, but it's actually pretty hard when you don't know where stuff is and the place is still like a maze to you. Sure, you'll memorize stuff after a while, but it'll make everything soooo much slower just because they started playing around the time of this event.

Some people on another forum are seriously considering quitting the game because of this. For me this was mostly fun, but that's just because I knew where most of the stuff was and my soul level was mostly high, the only thing I had to do was to adapt to the few Black Phantom's and extra enemies here and there. But I can easily understand why this is extremely frustrating for most beginners.

I've gotten through 1-2 without shooting down the dragon both times I've gone through there, including my first playthrough...all you have to do is wait for him to start his sweep, then run behind him. Not difficult. I came back later and shot him down for the souls and the Purple Flame Shield.

If the tendency keeps jumping back to pure black when you log out, it is a problem :) I havent tried, so i dont know, but someone said so further up in this thread.

Yes, but now there are two black phantoms at the end of the bridge. Which have killed me too many times as I have nowhere to run to thanks to the dragon. They wouldn't have been there had I been lucky enough to have played through it last weekend instead of this one!

Actually, I did all the PBWT and PWWT events on my first playthrough because I am a glutton for punishment - So, people who are saying it can't be done or it's too hard - Sorry, it just isn't. Frustrating, without a doubt - But, it's not too hard or cheap - If you get killed, you know why and 9 times out of 10 it's because you screwed up.

That being said, you do have to ask some questions to figure stuff out. This game gives you nothing, so these forums are a tremendous resource for information.

I have complete empathy for new players who were facing the end of that bridge on their first play through in PBWT!! No matter what some of those super elitist gaming gods say, that section is brutal! Perhaps, there should have been a way to opt out of the event under soul level 30 or something.

Exactly. The game is billed as being a brutally difficult RPG. If people can't handle dying a few times, why would they pay $60 to buy a game that's only described as difficult and unforgiving?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, I got 3 colorless souls, one dead Satsuki and one dead Miralda out of the event :) But I can definitely see how a starting player would have stomped their controller at the end of that bridge!!

I did my research... I didn't import the game lightly! I'm quite an old gamer, so remember some seriously brutal games from the 80's! I'm just annoyed that the steep learning curve got ramped to near vertical at the time when I was starting out. I feel I've missed out on my enjoyment of the game by an accident of timing.

I spent three hours this afternoon trying to get past the phantoms at the end of the bridge in 1-2. That is why I came here. I died more than just a few times... I now have about 90 shardstones or some other thing just from the phalanxes at the start! I don't give in easy... but those black phantoms at the end are a nightmare, and I'd liked to have done what the rest of you have done, and that is have a go at them when I'm ready!

I'm not moaning for the sake of it, I just hope atlus read all these comments, and give those of us just starting an 'out' so we can go back to the tendencies the way they were.

If you are that early on in the game (having not completed 1-2), it might make sense to start a new toon. That is, if Atlus set everything back to normal.

Like scheeky said, they are complaining because they want to play the way most people did, starting with the normal difficulty everywhere, and experience the harder PBWT when they are ready for it themselves. Just because some guys think it's easy even with PBWT, it doesn't mean it's easy for everyone.

All they want is for ATLUS to fix this when Halloween ended a couple of days ago. It's OK with just one day, but it almost seems like they forgot the whole thing.

The strategy guide itself suggests to lead the red eye in 1-1 to the two barrels in the other tower so he falls to his death. You aren't really s'posed to fight them at that level.

Agreed. But, if you were having trouble with them you can avoid them and go to 2. Or, you could find out how easy it is to beat the Red Dragon - He goes down and you can't believe how many souls you got so you run back to the Nexus and level up and buy more arrows - You head back to 1-2 psyched to take on the Red-Eyes....And - Poof - they're gone because beating the Red Dragon took you out of PB.....I'm just saying that there are options open to people instead of quitting the game in frustration. It's a frustrating game regardless - But the reward is worth every single death as far as I'm concerned.

I wonder if Christmas or some other holiday will see a PWWT. The chance to do the PBWT events was nice, if infuriating, but at the end of the day PB isn't hard to get, just costly on your Eye supply. You can always get PB unless you're out of Eyes and killed the lady that sells them. PW on the other hand you can screw yourself out of entirely without even knowing it.

I tried to be clever and made sure I had pure black tendency everywhere and then just walked away from the game for the weekend; thinking I could kill the bps and primevil demons and getting all my worlds pure white once the event was over. I still thought the event was great and as for the people whining (and actually threatening to return the game!)...have a little pride.

I had a great time in PBWT in NG+. I got all my Black Phantom NPCs killed except for Selen Vinland. I just could not get through 5-1 for the life of me. Now that it's all bright and shiny, I'll get past it and then drop my WT in offline so I can finally get Blind.

I kinda miss this event, I had a lot more fun in PBWT then I normally did, It made everything more tactical, and made my character seem even more human. Too bad I was only able to play for a few hours that day and missed out on the extended days. Oh well, looking forward to more events! :) Anything special for Thanksgiving? haha.

If you play offline it's incredibly easy to get your worlds to PBWT and PWWT.

I was quick to judge this event, although I am still dissapointed that it was only PBWT I did gain almost 40 levels that weekend so thats a plus. I didnt get any of the rare drops I needed though. Overall it was fun.
