Now that I finally have the living room set-up the way I want it, I decided it would be a good time to revive this thread. So, I present to you, the Atlus board, my primary HD gaming/movie set-up in the living room...

http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb181/Genma_Gouki/PICT0136.jpg

http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb181/Genma_Gouki/PICT0142.jpg

Mitsubishi WDY657 65" 1080p DLP HDTV w/ Matching TV Stand
Onkyo TX-SR605 7.1 HD A/V Reciever
Boston Acoustics MCS100MDNT 5.1 Speaker Set
Boston Acoustics HS60MDNT Bookshelf Speakers (x2)
Toshiba HD-A20 HD-DVD Player
Xbox 360 Elite w/ Wifi Adapter
PlayStation 3 60GB (Japanese)
Comcast HD Cable Box

Everything is hooked up with 1.3a certified HDMI cables from Monoprice, except for the 360, which is using the official Microsoft cable that came with it. Spent to much money on Monster XP speaker wire and a subwoofer cable I didn't really need, but I needed around 200 feet of wire to run all the rear speakers, which are still a mess, but I will deal with that later, just wanted to make sure everything was up and running right first.

I plan on buying a new 1080p LCD for my room sometime soon, after I get a new desktop, so pics of my room will come later...

So post you set ups Atlus board members!

How does that Plasma hold up for games? We have a 58" Samsung plasma hooked up to the Samsung 1400 BR player at work running a demo disc and the TV already has burn in from the Legends of Jazz part, which I thought was really weird considering how it's not even on the TV very long, and that all the latest Samsung plasmas have pixel shift which is supposed to prevent burn in...

Also what do you think about the Pioneer 360 speaker set? I also have those in my room. :)

For everyone with set-ups they are too ashamed to show here, you might be interested in this...

This is an older picture.. I don't know the exact model number of the TV and I definitely don't feel like crawling back there to find out.

50" Sony 1080p HDTV
7.1 Panasonic Home Theatre System

This is basically where my PS3 will be. (the day I actually get it, ho-hum) I hooked my older PC up to it as a Media Center to watch shows in HD since our Dish receiver isn't capable. Well it's pretty much only Lost in general, I watched Gurren Lagann out there since it's in 720p, looked amazing. Also played Bioshock on PC there for a good half of the game, again amazing. I expect no less of consoles when I hook it up with an HDMI cable, since VGA cables are only capable of 720p.

Slaughter, how are those particular Monoprice cables? Would you recommend them, or are you going to look for something better? If they're good, exactly which ones are they? I made a huge mistake of buying the Best Buy brand, and there's literally no difference in picture quality.

SlaughterX
02-08-2008, 07:00 PM
The monoprice cables work great. They are HDMI 1.3a certified, which means they meet bandwidth requirements needed to do a 1080p signal, while doing 7.1 HDMI audio, deep color, and every other new technology that is hardly being used by anyone... I even hooked up the PS3 with the $100 PS3 monster cable and compared it to the monoprice cable and it looked exactly the same.

PFV

HDMI is a digital signal, so it only has two options: on or off. So it's not like RCA were cable quality made a difference, with the analog signal. There's not going to be a quality difference between a $6 cable and a $200 cable. Unless the cable is literally broke.

I was ####ing amazed when I went to go buy cables for myself and noticed how much gouging was going on.

Gillian Seed

...since VGA cables are only capable of 720p.

If your TV supports 1080p, your VGA cable should be able to display that as well. Right?

Arjuna
02-09-2008, 04:33 PM
Don't think so Darren, the graphics card on that old PC absolutely sucks (onboard) and is very limited to 1280x720.

SlaughterX
02-09-2008, 04:46 PM
The cable itself supports resolutions well beyond 1080p, but with out a good graphics card it won't be pushing anywhere close to that resolution...

Arjuna
02-09-2008, 05:07 PM
I heard eks bawks can't hit 1080p with the VGA cable from the CNET review I read unless they are faulty..

Well when I was playing Bioshock I hooked my main PC up and had the options of 1900+ res. But there was no way in hell my PC was going to be capable of that, so ran it at 1280x720.

SlaughterX
02-09-2008, 05:17 PM
The 360 can do 1080p through VGA.

Yeah you definately need some surround sound up in there. Having sucha nice TV with out surround sound like wearing a suit with a t-shirt. Also I have that same Philips switch box. If you get a decent receiver you can chuck that thing and switch everything by remote. Also you need some photo taking lessons... or maybe it's your cam, but the pictures you take aren't doing that screen justice. :)

Is your Xbox modded?

Sei
06-20-2008, 05:34 AM
It's me. I turned the white adjust in the cam way high so it would be way less dark than the other one, also lowered the resolution. I also have an uncanny talent for taking super blurry pictures.

Yeah. I got my Xbox pretty much for XBMC. Awesome app, shame it can't really do matroskas.

I could take a picture of my PS2 hooked up to my bedroom's 20' Emerson CRT, or hooked up to the living room's 50' LCD HDTV, or I could post a picture of my PSP with matching (same glossy exterior and everything) Sony wraparound headphones.

Thankfully, I will post none of these pictures.

I'm only maybe half an hour in, and it's not bad so far. It's a little on the easy side and it's extremely slow. I think that's because I just got through God of War II though. For $5, go for it, but don't expect anything amazing.

Daewoo DT20U4SC 20" Flat-Screen CRT TV w/ time-warner cable connection
Sony RDR-VX530 DVD/VHS Combo
Xbox 360 Pro
Xbox Original on the bottom ...
(which i didn't bother to include in my photo
due to it recently becoming a nonfunctional, stubborn nuisance)

to the Daewoo, my Xbox 360 Pro is connected via a gray component cable that came with it. picture clarity is resolutely phenomenal, to state the least;
Daewoo really had a gem with the DT20U4SC's design and i applaud them whole-heartedly.
stock audio in this thing is of such crystalline clarity... that it may just as well be perfectly mute.. but that's alright with me because i usually sing to myself whilst playing video games anyway.

over on my computer desk i have a Klipsch THX 5.1 or something system that kicks out the jams with near-selfsame clarity. My dear friend Sasha,
who was recently exiled, gave it to me as a parting gift.

yes, with my birthday rapidly approaching i'm hoping to add a new Playstation3 to my already killer rig...

(seriously-- numerous mites trapped within that 360 now surely must've bit the dust)

i haven't even started it yet; however, the preceding episode Longest Journey is greatly endeared to me...
a magical masterpiece of ancient software.

i had such a crush on that main character- April Ryan. she's just so... beautifully verbose and hip.

Don't lie, Mouchette, you know that goth-ish girl to the left of her is where it's at! Also, I have that same TV in my house. It works pretty well, but I hear it working. It's hard to describe but I know when it's on in my house. It makes some kind of high pitched noise that i can hear. Apparantly, I'm the only one that can hear it here.

That goth girl is awfully beautiful, yes.
and that's weird about the noise... i suggest you try switching the in-menu Surround Effect around and see if that changes anything. or does it only become noticeable when not thinking about it? my surround is on the S1 setting and i don't hear any high-pitches; if i did, i'd probably flip-out. i'd start thinking about rfid technology and maddening stuff like that... which not many people seem to be aware are embedded within US passports now.

that's neat that we have the same TV!!

Since I got my Live up and running again (thanks a lot Raith) I set my 360 back up in my room and swapped the PS3 in the living room. Though I do have a pretty decent TV in my room the problem is it only has ONE video input and it's in the back. I hate swapping wires constantly so I kept the 360 here since it's in a much more well ventilated area. That and well I am going to be playing it a bit more with the new vidya gaems I got.

Edit: Yeah I know you like that awesome surround sound setup Slaughter.

I'm not talking about the cover art; I'm talking about the spine of the cases--they're all white with black text as opposed to ours which are all cool and colorful. I also believe the spines have a little colored corner to denote the rating, but I'm not sure.

EDIT: Just looked and some of them do have a colored corner. It seems to just be Nintendo-console games, though.

The Ico box art is an exception, not the rule, I think--but, yeah, ours is pretty lol-worthy.

Yeah, I live in Europe, and yeah, the "spines" are pretty boring. I got surprised the first time I saw a collection image from the US :O But the only game I imported is Persona 4. I couldn't wait for an EU release, plus I remember how slow P3 was here (25% less framerate or something).

And yes, Ugly Betty is awesome. Except for season two and three, they absolutely suck.

I liked season two, but three's kinda letting me down, since Wilhelmina's not really much of an evil bitch anymore.

Nothing like speakers held up with moving straps, because the rope I used last time...didn't work.

Are those condoms or sleeping pills on the floor by the TV? The blue box, I mean.

Awesome collection, though! Creepy doll atop the TV...D:

That is a VHS tape. I don't support such antiquated technology, but my wife still likes to record certain TV shows.

Creepy doll freaked me out when I came home one day and saw it on top of the TV. I figured either my mom had gone nuts and brought it over, or it came here on it's own and meant me harm. Turns out my wife's grandmother had made the doll and given it to her when she was born, and my wife brought it here when we got engaged. Also turns out we have no room for such a doll, so it remains atop the television.

On the bright side, it reminds me of playing Shikigami no Shiro.

Perceptive viewers will notice something wrong with my television if they look closely.

That would be nice, but no. It is related to what's on the screen.

ESPGaluda on 360 with a PS2 HRAP2? I do not see the 360's green ring on your shelf, though.

That's because it's ESPGaluda on PS2 with a PS2 HRAP2.

Anyway, the answer was that the TV is not flipped on it's side.

CDX

Maybe you can answer this question for me. Is there any way to manually delete files on the CDX's internal memory? I just bought one and I wanna make sure all the garbage is off of it.

That TV looks rounded on the sides, would it even stay on it's side? But you are correct, tate would correct the screen resize/compression.

Yes you can delete save files. Put in an audio cd to get to the CD player, then switch it to a game disc and the Memory option will appear. You can even format it.

I doubt it would stay on it's side, but the game would certainly look better.

Now with even newer speakers! Took back those Klipsch VF-36 because I found the horn tweeter to be way too bright and harsh for me. Replaced them with the MartinLogan Preface, and added an Encore center channel speaker to match!

Now all I want is one more Helos20 for my rears and I will be done!

Sorry about that, completly forgot about that thread and went with the first one I found. It's not so much pictures of the collection as it's not grown all that much sense I posted it, it as 4 black said, was about the shelves.

Yeah you should have posted the first and last picture. those make your place look classy. that middle picture of the tv stand kills it with a schlitstorm of wires and no real decorum.

Nice tv though. What size is that? Why not wall mount it?

Hitoshura
03-24-2011, 07:22 PM
Yeah, I need to handle the wire situation. Right now, I have to switch some between the two systems, so there isn't too much I can do just yet. It's a 42" LG, 120hz and whatnot. Didn't wallmount yet due to the hassle, and I needed the stand anyway to put the consoles in.

Just assembled this TV stand... took several hours and I hurt my back. On top of that there wasn't enough room for my receiver so I had to remove the feet just to get it in there. :(
