NG++ is pretty easy from what I hear compared to NG+ just barley harder, so if you feel like you can take NG+ without worrying i would go for the next step.

Well I am a high dex thief and i'm working on making a +5 Sharp Secret dagger. that will do huge amounts a damage because its sharp... and if I backstab you, well you wont even notice you'll die to quickly xD

Other like upgrading the Uchi. but in general to me it seems dex weps are faster than str weps, so for those of us who arnt built to be "tanks" then we need faster weps

After you have beat 4-3, back track through the Slug cave, pass the Reaper, and you should be able to approach from it's back.

I've been farming for Pure Bladestone, and i like to go into 4-2, drop down and kill the reaper, and go to the area where the white bow was and kill that Skellie.

Killed it at least 60 - 80 times, and nothing. Have a Sharp Kilij +4 and a Sharp Uchigana +4.......

New guy here. My turn to rage. I began farming Pure Bladestones with a luck stat of 11 on NG+, without the Large Sword of Searching, and after gaining - literally - in excess of 35 consecutive levels without a single stone, I quit and decided to come back later, in NG++.

So now I have a LSS and a luck stat of 31 and once again I'm farming the black phantom skeleton in 4-2 over and over and over and over for NOTHING. I've leveled up high enough that I'll rarely find other people to play with, all because I can't stand wasting the souls, and I'm not even being rewarded for my effort. This is BULL####, plain and simple.

This is NOT an MMORPG like Final Fantasy XI where the longer the developer strings me along by the nose the more I pay them to suffer through hideous hours of camping. This is a console-based, largely single-player RPG with mild multiplayer components. This is absolutely infuriating, and is terribly irresponsible on the developer's part.

In short, FROM, you ####ed up and you have no excuse. You've cheated your playerbase hideously with this stupid stone and you owe a large portion of us an apology and a patch. Rare is one thing, but to go HUNDREDS of kills without a single drop is absolutely ####ing unacceptable.

You've done a damn good job of destroying an otherwise magnificent game with this blunder. Fix it immediately. </thread>

In fact, Northern Regalia and the Meat Cleaver (the latter of which is ungodly easy to obtain) more or less pwn this entire game's weapon selection mercilessly.

FROM has blatantly spat in the faces of their fans, and without recognition or apology. This is flat-out wrong, and without justification. Period.

Luck doesn't seem to be relevant. I've seen people claim to get 3 or more with luck under 30 and I've seen threads where people who claim to have a Luck of 99 are literally begging for others to trade them a stone because they can't farm one.

As for me, my Luck is now in the mid-thirties, my character tendency is full Black and my World tendency is obviously pure black. I've been farming this guy on and off for days now, having gained probably in excess of seventy levels off of this one enemy. Not one stone has dropped. Been using the LSS here for hours, too.

Black Phantom drops are 100% so in that case luck doesn't do anything.

Luck only increases the rate that a monster will drop an item. Period. So if you are farming a black phantom (black skeleton in this case) with "high" luck, you are only increasing the chance that he will actually drop something. But since they always drop something, you are messing yourself up.

It seems that on Black Phantoms, the lower the luck the better. Yes, I know that is counterintuitive, but hey, life can't always be easy.

I was farming for this stone this past saturday and I was also getting frustrated as I spent 4-5 full hours non-stop. But I should count myself lucky as others have spent longer farming this. I finally got the drop off the BP. I was considering upgrading my Luck more, but when it did drop I was at 11. I rotated between the BP and the Black Skeleton at the hidden passage just to give myself some variety before things got extremely stale.

I had the LSoS, but as many ppl pointed out this may have no effect at all to the actual drop rate of the stone. But either way, I'd leave it on just for the heck of it.

This was the last trophy I needed to get platinum and to me trophies make games last longer. Some people don't care, some do. If you're still farming I hope you get it soon.

Now, my character went up around 30 levels (from around 120 to 150). So I'd say, I killed the dual katana guy around 40 times, before I got the stone. I got a bunch of chunks, as well...and some soul remains (argh!)

EDIT: BTW, my guy has luck at 10 and I didn't equip the LSoS.

Were you online? When you log into the game, it "updates" your WT with the general trend of EVERY player online so if you're trying to keep it pure... you can only do that by playing offline.

I got a purebladestone and used it to make the trophy. They are real they just take forever to drop. Took me two full evenings of farming the BP dual katana skeleton in 4-2 so a total about bout 6-7 seven hours not counting breaks I took. Also ignoring the fact that I suck at farming it. I about every 2-3 runs I would overshoot the distance and the skelly would turn around as I cast soulsucker and kill me before I could finish the spell.

For reference I started farming at level 109 and after spending the souls I was level 153. I did not have the ring of avarice on either.

First, I know how to play offline; I shouldn't have to do it in order to keep the WT I've worked for. I'm tired of wasting Stones of Ephemeral Eyes for nothing. At the very least this game should give you the option of playing offline when you boot it up. As it stands, the only way I know of to play offline is to manually disconnect my Ethernet cable from the PS3, which is retarded.

As for the person who said he overshoots the distance for Soulsucker, yeah, it gets exhausting having to tiptoe up to that thing every run, and I used to do the same thing. Solution:

1) Backstab with any right-hand weapon, with catalyst equipped in the left.
2) Hold Circle during your backstab animation.
3) As soon as you can move, rush into the downed skeleton and hit L1.

You will always get Soulsucker off without him attacking you. It will look like he's going to kill you, but the animation glitches and you'll win every time. My success rate has been at 100% since I started using this technique.

It's a shame that I've farmed over six million souls in a single sitting since then without any luck on the drop.

Turn off auto-logins. If you're logged out, the game prompts you to log in. Just hit "O" at the generic PSN login and choose not to play online when the game asks you again.

There is actually. I learned it from the PSN chatroom Obsydian set up for the atlus forum users. You just set PSN to not automatically sign in. Then start up Demon's Souls in offline mode. Once your file is loaded press the PS button then sign into PSN. Demon's Souls will still be in offline mode and you can still chat with people and see their online status. The best of both worlds if you ask me.

You're going to be at this #### for a long, long time. Multiple estimates at this drop rate put it at 1/200. A single fast-paced at the phantom skeleton is give or take 2 minutes. Let's have fun with math, shall we?

200 x 2 = 400 minutes worth of farming in order to get one drop, if your luck is average. 400/60 = 6.67 hours of farming, assuming you went non-stop.

SEVEN HOURS OF FARMING, ON AVERAGE. And what will you get out of this, might you ask? Perhaps a Sharp Dagger +5 or something equally useless. A weapon you're almost guaranteed never to use. Oh, and an lolbronze trophy.

The only bright side is that if you end up farming 98,000 souls per run for seven hours that's a total of 19,600,000 souls, which is a LOT of levels. The downer is that if you use them all you'll never get invaded again, or be able to summon others to play with.

They should have atleast make this a gold trophy lol....this is alot of damn work for a bronze trophy. I went from level 132 to 200 in a matter of one night and still no pure bladestone. I will just do my 3rd and 4th play throuh and come back to this one last.

You're going to be at this #### for a long, long time. Multiple estimates at this drop rate put it at 1/200. A single fast-paced at the phantom skeleton is give or take 2 minutes. Let's have fun with math, shall we?

200 x 2 = 400 minutes worth of farming in order to get one drop, if your luck is average. 400/60 = 6.67 hours of farming, assuming you went non-stop.

SEVEN HOURS OF FARMING, ON AVERAGE. And what will you get out of this, might you ask? Perhaps a Sharp Dagger +5 or something equally useless. A weapon you're almost guaranteed never to use. Oh, and an lolbronze trophy.

Actually, I spent about three and a half years of my life completely, hopelessly addicted to Final Fantasy XI. Worse yet, I was an avid NM camper in that time. I know all about rare drops and time sinks. There's a problem in your logic, though: this game is not an MMORPG. It's not, period.

MMOs have low drop rates to encourage you to keep playing as long as possible during every little event/quest/camp because every minute you tick away puts more cash in the developer's pockets. They only thrive when you're actively playing your character, and if it takes a 1% drop rate to keep you going like a lunatic, they'll give it to you. Demon's Souls, on the other hand, has a one-time fee of $60 for the purchase price. Beyond that the developer will never make one red cent off of the player, barring any forthcoming DLC. That said, there's no justification whatsoever for making this item so rare. None. They have no reason to do it except for pure spite, and a complete lack of respect for the playerbase.

Addendum: MMOs also have such ludicrous drop rates because of the astoundingly competitive nature of the games themselves. Elite players will suffer through hell to edge out the competition by the slighest margin. That might be the case in Demon's Souls to some extent, but for the fact that this stone, as I've mentioned several times already, is effectively USELESS. There is nothing in the game that you can make with it which will give you an advantage over anyone using unique weaponry, particularly if they've upgraded it with Colorless Souls.

And as for those talking about degrading the game for one rare drop, it's not me degrading Demon's Souls. It's the assholes who actually thought it was remotely acceptable to give a functionally useless item a .5% drop rate out of sheer spite. Say what you want about trophies and longevity, but what good is the longevity of a game if in the process you destroy the fun in it? What if a trophy required you to obtain 99 of every consumable item in the game, or fifty +10 weapons? Wouldn't that make it a longer experience? Sure, but would it be even remotely rewarding in the process? #### no, it wouldn't! They might as well have put a trophy in for beating new game plus without taking any damage whatsoever.

I'm pissed off that in the process of making a game longer (unecessarily, since as I pointed out above, FROM doesn't stand to profit one bit whether you take 10 hours or 10 years to complete Demon's Souls), the developers have absolutely raped all the fun in it. This is pointless, stupid, sadistic and unforgivable. And that is absolutely worth degrading the game over.

Okay, name a valid reason for any item in a non-MMORPG to have a 1/200 drop rate. Particularly if the item in question is more or less the equivalent of a paperweight. That's all you have to do—justify it in a logical fashion.

I'm offended by the principle here. What's working me up is the fact that there's no logical reason for the developers to make this piece of #### item so insanely hard to obtain, and yet they did. It's offensive and insulting that even those of us who can easily hack this game's difficulty curve and beat it over and over and over still get screwed in the end over something trivial.

I don't play for trophies unless it's a game I really love. In this case, Demon's Souls is one of my all-time favorite PS3 titles, so I felt (at least initially) that it was worth going platinum. But five or six hours of farming later, and I'm stuck here still and all I can think about is how useless and unnecessary this is.

But because I'm tenacious and I've already invested far more time than is reasonable into this, I feel quite frankly that the game owes me this drop. As I see it, it's already mine and the game has to pay up. No exceptions; it doesn't get a choice. This is a debt, and Demon's Souls will give me what is mine. Period.

If trophies are worthless to you then thats fine and dandy....but platinum-ing a game that I love has value to me as a gamer personally. So for all the people who think that the players who are disappointed with the major chore it is just to get this rare ore are being annoying, just stop reading this tread as its not for you. Simple. People are different, be mature and respect that fact. Its the fact that I love DS and have made up my mind that I will platinum this game is why I still truck on, but the logic behind this stone being so difficult to get is just nuts. At least the enemy that drops the pure bladestone is an unlimited spawn. The only two enemies that drop the pure moonlightstone are gecko's, so you get what, 8 chance per playthrough.

I killed them everytime in my first play through, and didn't get it.

Congrats, man. Glad you got it. I'm sorry that you were on the severely wrong end of the drop distribution.

The drop rate on the pure bladestone made zero sense in comparison to everything else comparable, and the inability to combine chunks to get pure or destroy pures for chunks is plain ol' pants on head retarded. That or lazy.

I mean, the economy is already there through the drop rates and time to farm. It's very easily formalized, still lets people feel lucky through getting a quick miracle drop, and it gives the people on the far right side of the distribution hope, as even if they haven't gotten the pure drop, they may have 50 chunks to combine. (like I had)

I'm fairly certain there are no items (save for the souls and Red-Eye Stone that you can only obtain by ending the game) you cannot receive on round one. I'm fairly certain that there aren't even really any level requirements for obtaining gear in Demon's Souls. If you were good enough you could probably get a Pure Bladestone at level 1 on your first go-round. It'd just take you six years of playing like an idiot to get one.

But me? I was on NG++++ when I finally got mine. Ugh.

I just started grinding for this on NG, have killed the black phantom dual katana skeleton dude perhaps 15 times so far. Took me a few deaths to figure out how to actually beat him (soul level ~75), but now he's going down reliably.

Damn soul remains.

The drop rate on pure bladestone is HORRIBLY unbalanced. This is total bull####! I got every other pure stone effortlessly or within 10 minutes of going out of my way for it, but this one simply will not drop. NO exaggeration here:

99 Chunks of Bladestone? check!
99 Uchigatanas? check!
Millions and millions of souls? check!
1 Pure Bladestone? NO!

I got 4 pure bladestones in one farming session just now. I think I killed the 4-2 skeleton about 30 times. I only have 2 left though. Used one to make a +5 sharp uchigatana, and the other I lost because the stupid manta ray killed me before I could pick it up.

Yes, it is possible on the first playthru. I got mine farming the hidden passage dual katana black skeleton. I did that because I didn't kill old hero yet when I did it. Took me 2 days of 3 2hr sessions. Didn't use LSOS, luck=20, PBWT, and the suicide strategy(didn't return to nexus).

I'm loving my +5 Sharp Uchigatana. :)

Well I shouldn't say that because I really don't know, but thats the only reason I wanted it.
I don't use upgraded swords, just Upgraded Bow.
I use Uniqe weapons.
