Plunged into the zone today and managed to make it past the Leechmonger without to much of an issue with the exception of really really bad camera angle's while on the planks. Anyway I came upon the birdlooking guys that are supersized in the swamp (that you can't role in) and their club atk is pretty wicked. Can't block it with a +8 Knight shield. I have had a 50% success rate just getting in and hack-n-slash with the dragon sword before their first swing but they just swing through my atk.

Am I missing something with these guys? I normally pull with arrows but they come in to fast to get more than two shots off. I came in looking for sticky white stuff cause I thought it dropped like water in this zone but have yet to see any drop.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

A little later in the same zone you get stikcy white stuff from slugs. Also, the only thing you can do to fight the big club fellas effectively is fight them on land and roll counter clockwise. There is some land sprinkled throughout the area, so use that wisely.

Also, you can let them start their swing and just roll back, and attack once or twice, it takes a little while for them to recover.

Just like any enemy study his attack pattern then exploit it. He usually is down for a second or two after he swings his club into the ground so right after he does that run or roll into there, slash him twice then get back out of there before he recovers. Bait him to swing again then repeat. This game rewards patience so if you think you won't be able to make it in time to attack him before he swings again then dont take the risk and wait for the next opportunity.

But you know what's hard, Audacity? There's a little island with a bunch of treasure in the swamp after the first fog gate in 4-2. Why I mention this is because there are 4 club guys there! And you can't dodge them!!$%2fgwoegnwpeo!

The best way to be honest is hyper mode with a thief ring from max range, they will move to you but give up as long as you don't keep shooting. Firestorm works too but you have to pre-empt their attack. Lastly if you have warding, use it. Fighting them mano a mano with no protective spells and such... well... I hope you are really good in melee and can kill them with very few hits. The ones Bacon mentioned do not even attempt melee, you will go down like a dog.

haha I remember that place now, I think I died there once and forgot to go back there to get the treasure.

not going to say too much since this is the no spoilers section, but there is a place you can safely kill them from on the map, given, you will need bow/arrows to do it but you won't die to them.

Actually with dodging and thief ring its not too difficult to take out all 4 on that island, you can clump them all together and use say a spell that can hit multiple enimies... they go down pretty quick.

How can you dodge if the only piece of land close to you is the one they're standing on?

you said it... roll counterclockwise, the island is big enough for you to do that, but you do it just before they swing then barrage them with attacks until the next one gets to close... keep moving so you never get surrounded and eventually they will fall

Avoid them entirely(thief's ring), slowly snipe them, or cast homing soul arrow and pray your shield allows you to block thier attacks(+10 purple flame shield works for me).

My suggesstion to you, since you seem to be primarily a melee-er, would be to shoot him from the maximum possible range you can hit him with a Thief's Ring equipped. The idea is to pull him, wait till he starts walking back, move back, pull again, etc. etc. until you can get him on the island where you can fight him in melee

I don't know the guard break reduction on your knights shield, but I use a Purple Flame Shield +10, has 85 guard break reduction. I can block and Counter their clubs with ease. It just kills my stamina fast so it really does help to fight them on land.

My guard break is 76 on the knights shield +8, think I have been able to block maybe twice.

There might be an equipment-class difference between light and heavy shields with respect to guard break? I dunno.

I think if you're using a heavy weapon and can drop the trolls in a couple hits, start your swing as the troll winds up to attack. You should be anchored to the ground for the length of your move and first to counter-attack. On the first play-through I could do it with my Meat Cleaver but I haven't been cranking STR and everything so it's impossible for me to just bum-rush like that now.
