Nintendo Says DSi-L Report Is “Speculation”

Even my local newspaper picked up on that story. The "speculation" excuse is getting old. I think that's a lack of respect towards their customers.

Sounds just like speculation to me.

I still wish they had kept the GBA slot... Not only for GBA games, but for DS games that use certain accessories - rumble pack, Guitar Hero (not that I play it,) stuff like the Max Media Dock, etc. Of course, I guess the last part is probably obsolete, with the DSi using SD cards now or whatever it is.

Normally I'd agree. But this is Nintendo we're talking about.

The system looks uncomfortably large and that stylus looks like it would cramp up my hand in seconds. I think the DSi's stylus was already too big, and now they make it even bigger? Urgh.

Not only is this a bull move, but it's an inferior product. I guess they ARE copying Sony, haha.

I am always getting cramps from playing on my NDS Lite. Anyway, this is a kick in the crouch for those who bought the 'i'.
And the game has been confirmed for a European release:

I disagree completely. Larger systems are much more comfortable for me to hold. Larger stylus is also a plus. I love my DS lite, but I feel much more comfortable holding my PSP.

I wasn't expecting an official announcement so soon. Bring back the GBA slot (won't happen), and I might be sold. Otherwise, obviously waiting for a number of good DSi games to come out.

I can understand why people want PS2 BC in PS3, seeing as PS2 games are still published and released.

What I can't understand is why people still want a GBA Slot in the newer models of DSi when the option still remains in the DS Lite and there haven't been GBA games released for several years now. GBA is a dead platform and I'd much rather see that stuff just get digitally distributed now.

Because some games use the extra slot and why should you carry more consoles with you if you feel like playing a GBA game?

I like having rumble in Metroid Prime: Hunters & Pinball.

I like being able to play Guitar Hero DS.

Oh yeah, like Mother 3 and Tales games. So glad I imported those while they were on sale.

So basically, you've given no reasons why DSi should have GBA compatibility and why you guys should want a DS Lite instead. Nintendo still makes 'em. Get one.

Its nice you're still attached to a dead platform, I'm not and won't pay for features that aren't really supported.

Some of us don't have all the time in the universe and are still working through the massive backlog of great GBA games out there. There's also tons of GBA games that are worth playing over and over. I'm on my, like, 5th playthrough of Super Robot Taisen at the moment, and my GBA SP is slowly dying. It'd be nice if my DSi could play the games too.

And besides, they took it out for what? A camera? Who cares? I'd rather have a somewhat-relevant game-playing function on my GAMING DEVICE then a damn camera that everyone has on their phones anyway.

I think the near-infinite entertainment value of Flipnote Studios, MP3 playback and DSiWare outweighs what the GBA slot offers. There are some interesting camera-based games such as Ghostwire coming out in the next year, DSi isn't alone in that either, PSP has Invisimals, PS3 has that weird pet monkey thing and Xbox has Project Natal. Cameras can be a part of gameplay and its clearly something developers intend to explore.

And its not like I'm starved for games on it. Dragon Quest Wars, Pictobits, Brain Age, Mighty Flip Champs, Mario Vs. DK and more. Many originals are coming down the pipe in time. Reflection from Konami, Shantae 2 from WayForward, Hills and Rivers Remain from SE and more.

Also, funny you claim to not have all the time in the world and have a backlog of games from five years ago to sift through, then follow that up with saying you're playing SRT Original Generations for the fifth time. You don't seem to be losing anything since you have something WITH the ability to play GBA games on it, be that a previous model or a GBA - so what's the problem. Just don't get a DSi.

Pretty simple.

Add me in the "if it doesn't have a GBA slot I don't care" party. It's silly that they would bother making it bigger but not give it GBA support. For the record, I already have a DSL and had no intention of ever getting a DSi, but if it played GBA games I'd have one less reason to detest it. #### Nintendo, once again.

SRT is one of those rare games where I want to do EVERYTHING in it. And I keep missing the Vysaga/Ashsaber in 2 because of stupid crap. So despite me being on a high playthrough, I don't consider it beaten yet, which is yet another reason I'd like to have more ways of reliably being able to play GBA games; once my GBA burns out I'm going to need a new system to play my games, and the DS should be able to do that instead of installing crappy cellphone cameras that nobody needs or wants.

And I never said anything negative about DSiware. Pictobits is amazing, and was -by itself- worth the price of admission for upgrading to the DSi, and I'm looking forward to seeing other neat games come out(I also need to pick up Mighty Flip Champs next time I have some spare Nintendo points lying around). But what this has to do with my complaint about the DSi having crappy cameras instead of a GBA slot I'll never know.

SRT seems like ome of those games that Time might forget so thats why older systems might need to live a little longer,I say the DSi needs to support a GBA Slot & DSiware but thats just a wicked fantasy ...

Yodabashi Camera put up their displays for the DSi BBW today. It's pretty ####ing big but it's strange because the buttons and the d-pad are the same size as before.

If I ever upgrade from my original DS Phat, it'll be a DSi XL.

If I lived in New York City or other cities where I would routinely take public transportations, I would dig DSi's smaller form factor and portability, but as is, I rarely play my DS outside my home, and I think I'm gonna like DSi XL's bigger screen.

Plus, when I do play outside my house, it's often in cross-Pacific 11+ hour flights, so the extra battery life would be welcome.

Probably around the same time as the DSi came out March/April.

^ No announced date, yet.

I would totally get this if I didn't have every released DS already, just like I would get a Go if I didn't have a 2000 already.

The DSi LL is already out in Japan and it seems that 'bigger' was an understatement. This thing is a beast. I can't wait to get my hands on it:)

And besides, they took it out for what? A camera? Who cares? I'd rather have a somewhat-relevant game-playing function on my GAMING DEVICE then a damn camera that everyone has on their phones anyway. You seem to be forgetting DLC, an SD card slot, and finally WPA Wifi compatibility. It's very common to brush those off and simply complain about the camera. (Edit: Forgot to add that the sound is much, much better on the DSi, especially when headphone-to-headphone.)

The lack of a GBA slot does not bother me one bit (well, save for the exception of the Taito Paddle accessory WHICH S-E NEVER BROTHERED TO BRING OVER). After all, that's what my GBMicro is for.

As for DSiLL, I'd say this isn't that last time you'll be hearing of a new Nintendo handheld model, with all of the speculation about the next-generation and dealings going on (http://www.brightsideofnews.com/news/2009/10/13/nvidia-tegra-wins-contract-for-next-gen-nintendo-ds.aspx)...Let's hope they give you the option to transfer DLC purchases when it (eventually) comes out.

But man is that LL/XL screen huge.
