This game is really looking to be one of the best DS games. The fact that the sprites actually change depending on what equipment you have equipped is particularly appealing. The graphics also look nice and mesh well, I think.

Here's a video with some gameplay:

I'm sure you've all seen this one already, but alas it is wonderful:

Liar, Luminous Arc is the BEST GAME EVER. I said that when it came out, perhaps. That doesn't mean that things couldn't pass it up. Rondo of Swords looks to be quite the game, as do many other titles.

SHUT UP! SHUT! UP! YOU SAY THAT ABOUT EVEN GOD DAMNED DS GAME! PLEASE STOP!

Master Zombots
02-03-2008, 05:11 AM
^I do not say that about every DS game, Saycke. There are probably close to 300 DS games if not more currently out. Even if I've said that to 5 of them, that's only 1.6% of all DS games. And by the way, I had said that regarding the Summon Night - Swordcraft Story games, which were for the Gameboy Advance, and Hoshigami Remix. Then, I changed my opinion after Luminous Arc came out. There is no reason why a newer game could not surpass one of the older ones. And furthermore, you've said this same thing on many other occasions. Give it a rest and talk about Dragon Quest IX here please. Why bother coming to the thread if you wanted to post ridiculous things with no relevance to Dragon Quest IX?

EvilHero
02-03-2008, 07:26 AM
I'm so glad they decided to go with a turn based battle system instead of that hack and slash crap we saw when it first came out.

Also, through an interview with SE's President, he announced that DQIX is almost done.

Yes, that's awesome that it is nearing completion. It is being speculated that Japan will see the game in late 2008, so hopefully North America will see it around that time also. :)

I think nearly any Dragon Quest title deserves its own thread, regardless of who makes it. That said, I don't know much about the game itself. I do know that my attention span for handheld RPGs is getting to be a lot smaller as the years move on. I hope it's better than 8! DQ8 was such a step backward for the series.

Arjuna
02-03-2008, 05:29 PM
Sad you think that's an insult. Grow up MZ, it's infantile BAWWW'ish behavior like yours that gets people to rip on you around here in the first place. Don't even try to insult me with your obscure, grade nine adjectives.

DQ8 was such a step backward for the series.

I agree with the statement in the fact that they ditched the class system. Otherwise, it felt more like the whole RPG genre took a step forward and DQ got left behind.

The entire nine post thread. Wow. You sure showed me. Let's be honest here, MZ, there's nothing to say about DQIX at this point. Try making this thread when some news is released. That way, we have something to help facilitate a discussion.

VI, pls. Straight port, imo. No remake, pls. Why wouldn't you want a remake for the DS? I think it'd be splendid to be able to have such epic games like these on the DS.

And also, what are your actual feelings toward Dragon Quest XI Saycke? I really do think that it will be one of the best games not only for the DS, but in general. And I'm being serious, no joke intended. :?

Sayckeone
02-04-2008, 03:24 PM
Because I really really like the graphics for VI, more so than any of the remake graphics. I'd rather just play a port than a remake.

That really is a lame excuse. Why would you try side games in order to get a feel for a series? That would be like me picking up Dirge of Cerberus to see if I might like FFXII. DQVIII is currently the best way to introduce one's self to the series. It's the most accessible title that is still 100% DQ.

It was my first DQ game I played all the way through, I dug the tank battles and thought the pacing was pretty good. You just couldnt get into it Kaki? I did play quite a few hours of DQ8 but never finished it, that was fun for the most part.

But 7 was great I couldn't put it down. Stayed up late playing it and ignored my bladder cause I didn't want to stop playing until I -really- had to piss.. I think I logged 98hours on my first playthrough, 120 on my 2nd.

I never hear people refer to Dragon Quest games by their full names

Pantheon of Evil Spirits (DQ2)
And Into the Legend...(DQ3)
The Guided Ones (DQ4)
Bride of Heaven (DQ5)
Land of Illusion (DQ6)
Warriors of Eden (DQ7)

Even if it was called "Barbie's Fairytale Adventure" DQ4 is worth the purchase. I think the subtitle will be largely ignored like it was for DQ8 anyway.

I see what you are saying about the boxes being sort of weak, but they aren't bad if you keep them in nice condition. Also, I think those who collect the box (like me) collect it for more than the box itself - like the manuals and other things that are included.

[quote=DarkShear]Also, I think those who collect the box (like me) collect it for more than the box itself - like the manuals and other things that are included.

I can understand the collection aspect, but paying the extra money for a flimsy craptastic box that is destined to break down just isn't worth it in my opinion. If it's a hard case I'll consider paying the extra cash and definitely if it's a disc so it doesn't get scratched up.

But paying an extra $20 or $30 for a GBA box...no thanks.

Also, I personally would recommend you trade that Thief for a Jester (F, but M would work). I never really had a need for a Mage until I actually had my characters leveled enough to get to the class change level. I believe that is 20

Sayckeone
05-26-2008, 07:26 AM
Jester huh? I hear that's one of those classes that you have to know what you're doing in order for them to be useful. It's worth a shot, I guess.

EvilHero
05-26-2008, 07:37 AM
I didn't find thieves totally useless. I originally changed my Priest to a Thief at Dharma temple and he became the fastest thing in the game, being able to cast healing spells first during a boss fight was really useful.

Now Thief by itself, yeah I kinda find that useless. Combined him with another class and its alot better.

BTW Saycke, yeah I found the thief was quite useful by end game. Provided I changed him from a Cleric who had learned all his healing spells, having someone who can cast support spells and use the sage rock before anyone else was a huge help.

I definetly recommend picking up DQ 1+2 if you can. Pretty much the same stuff you'd expect in 3, minus the class/personality system.

I wouldn't call DW3 any easier or harder than any other DW game. Ray and Sayck are probably having an easy time because they know how to play the system. If you don't take your time and mess with the classes and things like that, you're gonna struggle. Enix could've really jacked up the tedium of the game but they didn't. The balance and pacing is brilliant.

It's a far cry from let's say the first game which really only consisted of attack, attack, heal, attack, attack, heal, grind, grind, grind, grind, grind, die.....Which is what a lot of RPGs force you to do.

Here's a really nice trailer for the game. Click on the image in the lower left of the screen to play the video. It is similiar to the TGS trailer, but it has a higher level of quality.

Well, it isn't news so much as cool information about the character customization options. :)

Nice, really looking forward to it. I hope they don't make it too easy.

I just hope there isn't any forced arm flailing just for the sake of it.. If I have to swing my arms, have it at least make sense~!

Sei

^ How about waggling? :)

Waggle. Arm flailage. Same thing.

...I'll waggle you!

I think I have particularly weak arms. That racing game in Raving Rabbids almost broke my arms off.

Spend some time with Wii Zelda and No more heroes, that'll build you some arms!.

The Wario game is also an excellent option!.

Boy, I really need to get more Wii games. Last one I got was Dokapon, and previous to that, hmm, dunno.

Which is part of why I really look forward to this, the Wii needs more RPG's and non wagglefests :) Dokapon is great.

I don't think I should have to strengthen my arms to play games. I think devs should accomodate weaklings like me and allow me to play with only my thumbs and index fingers like I've done since the SNES. :p

I purposely bought Zelda for the Gamecube to avoid having to swing my arms to attack. I've been meaning to pick up No More Heroes one of these days though.

Most Wii games I have are casual games. I rarely ever play my Wii. Just bring it out for group gatherings because my non-gamer acquaintances still go crazy over the thing for some reason.

I can't wait to pick DQV up, less than a week now!

S-E just delivered some bad news though, DQIX has been delayed to July 11th in Japan. :(

I'm so pissed about the delay. >_> At least this will give me time to catch up with my backlog.

It does stink that Dragon Quest IX has been delayed. :( We might have to wait until the end of 2009 for it now. :o

Just picked this up along with Fire emblem. I flipped through the first few pages of the guide earlier.

I never got to the point where you have kids in the SNES version, but i'm a little disappointed that your choice of wife only seems to effect the appearance of your children and nothing else (according to the guide, anyway.) Kind of hoping it was like Phantasy Star 3.
