Has it really been 7 days? I've clocked about 60 hours in game so far, and I've only had 168 to do so. That's... 35% of my week spent playing this game. And it's been glorious. Thank god for fall break...

So, how's the community doing, 1 week after launch? The first night it felt like nobody knew what they were doing. But a couple days in, and the playing field felt so diverse and varied. People of all different skill level, playing style, gear, etc. An almost explosion of people using colored eye stones. I've seen the online community of other games slowly grow, learning the ins and outs of the game, but this one took the shortest amount of time. It was like I watched the players 'grow up' from bumbling kid to hardcore killer in a span of time that can be measured in hours. Maybe it has something to do with the importers, haha.

Anyways, just curious on peoples thoughts and opinions on the game, now that we've had a week to settle into it. :)

I'm loving it. I've waited a long time for a game like this, an online RPG with actual gameplay. In fact, some of my friends have been wanting me to play Aion, and now I don't know how I'll be able to stand it, this game just plays so much better, with a much better community to boot! XD

In fact, I'm not really a high fantasy fan, and have grown rather bored of fantasy in general, yet Demon's Souls manages to create such an atmosphere, and put enough of a spin on its theme, that I find it compelling, and exciting regardless. It took the one element I was worried I wouldn't meld with, and proved to me I could enjoy fantasy once more, someone just had to do it right! That, in and of itself, speaks volumes of how much was put into this game.

Then you have the gameplay. Ah the gameplay. What more can I say, other than, it's everything I hoped it would be. There's strategy, finesse, action, and diversity. I've made two characters so far, and they don't play anything alike, they both are enjoyable, exciting, and waiting for new tactics to be created. The game is open ended enough for total control of your character, yet requires enough skill and strategy that you'll never be able survive purely on grinding. It's a blend the entire RPG genre has been begging for, and many games have failed to accomplish, yet Demon's Souls managed it perfectly. Plus, I Sparta'd a Black Phantom Dual-Katana Skeleton off a cliff. How many games can you do that in? There I was thinking my life was over, that I, a blue phantom, had no prayer of aiding my friend in besting this foe, that is, until I backstab-kicked it over the ledge. It was glorious!

The online play is wonderful too. Sure, at first glance it appears limited, but as you experience the game, and get a feel for it, you learn that really, it's not bad at all. It remains a part of the lore, and does so in a wonderfully crafted manor. Black Phantoms adding to your excitement, Blue Phantoms yielding assistance, but never quite removing that feeling of desperation, and solitude, and don't even get me started on 3-3. That boss fight is some kind of genius!

Certainly the game isn't perfect. The lock-on can be finicky at times, the rag-doll physics are hilariously wonky, the story is a bit shallow, and several bosses are just begging for cheap tactic abuse, but I swear it still deserves some serious respect. Such a level of atmosphere which can tell a story all its own is rarely accomplished even in the most chilling of horror titles, and Monster Hunter doesn't even interest me anymore, now that Demon's Souls has its number. It's just a well rounded, challenging, and inspiring good time!

...Aion is horrible...lol just my opinion but I played beta and it was beta yes but way to buggy, laggy, poor community, and the controls and gameplay wasn't enough to support the bad things..

Demon's Souls IMO though has wonderful innovative controls and makes the game easy to play and learn. The graphics are great sounds or lack of sometimes are wonderful, difficulty is perfect, only 2 things i would change and they are very very minor...more gear(weapons and armor) and more worlds...the game seems short but it is still very fun and seems to be a blast! and when your bored just whip out the good ole black eye and have some fun!

I agree 100%. It's odd, really. Demon's Souls isn't perfect, and yet it's setting new precedents for me on how I 'rate' the games I play. Games I used to consider perfection are now just 'Good', and games that were good are now merely 'Memorable'. And this is coming from a game that I can clearly see room for improvement, even if it would only be in minor details. It's almost like it lifted some sort of video-game-disillusionment-fog from my eyes.

You KNOW a game has to be good when you desperately want to go back and build a character perfectly tailored for you, but you're still so addicted to the game that you can't just restart because you like where you are. Can't wait for the ending, haha. Kill two birds with one stone...

Until you hit New Game+... Then New Game++... Add some more '+' in there for the heck of it.

*I promise to stay on topic next time*

We have a perfectly good place for you to talk about games that aren't from our company. Pull this again and you're getting a permaban.

This is the best game I've play on the PS3 so far, I had a 40th Temple Night that had finished 1-1,1-2,2-1,3-1,4-1 with over 30 hr's & I delete him because I didn't like the way I went with him, so now I have a 22nd Soldier that has finished 1-1 & kill the dragon in 1-2 in only 3 hr's, I feel like I'm a lot better player now than the 1st time.Hopefully I upgrade smarter this time around.

I would probably start foaming at the mouth if they made a larger, more multiplayer focused version of this game. Like if there was a sort of diablo-style to the game in that there would be random dungeons and user-friendly multiplayer with scaling monsters. I don't think anything would make me happier.

Hopefully this game inspires other game developers.
