Hello,
I figured I would start this for myself and others that are new to the forums and havent met the 5 post rule yet to start new threads. Plus its easier to look in one thread that maybe in the first page so that others can find what the want to know too.

My question is, I see alot of notes left around that says "I am in trouble, please recommend" What does that that about? I just started leaving notes for others so they may know what is ahead or might help them. So, I was wanting to find out about this.

Answer: You get a full heal when someone recommends your message, so usually the "I'm in trouble, please recommend" messages are people looking to get a full heal from people.

Ok cool thanks I glad I asked. And is that on any message left or is it just on that one?

Also What starting class did is everyone playing and why?
I picked Royality mainly because it starts out at lvl 1. Then the secondardy reason is the ring you get, I use a mix of melee and magic. I am a battle mage or battle druid depending on how you look at it.

Another question on stuff like heal and recall magics do they all take Tailsmans? Because as a royality I only start with the silver wand. And dont want to waste souls on that stuff until I get the tailsman of gods or what ever I can get first.

Thank you for answering my questions and taking time to read this thread.

Alrighty, let me answer these by order.

1. Every message you leave will heal you if someone else found it useful and recommended it. It's just that the "I'm in trouble - please recommend this message!" messages ae just so that people know that you want a heal.

2. I have two characters so far:
One is my thief which i chose because they are awesome and I heard they are basically the "hard" mode on Demon's Souls. It's a nice challenge, plus my thief looked too cute to be scraped once i realized it really was hard.
My other character is a Temple Knight, but you wouldn't know if you saw him. He is completely changed and I mainly use him to help people get through 1-2 or any other low level hot spot.

3. Yeah, "miracles" all require a talisman of god, just like "magic" requires a catalyst.

Thank again, what class is your soul level 50 and lvl 20? I may make a theif then to try it out to see how hard, just to mess around.

I can say with no dout, that this game is special. I love how they fused the single and online play. its a great, and they pulled it off very well. I would like to see more like this, wish they could make a Elder Scroll with something like this in it, with a online play. But I love this game its getting my full attenction right now, saying alot, since I own a PC with tons of games and I play MMOs, a PS2, And PS3 stuff like infomuse, just got brutal legand. Any I'll stop chit chating.

My Thief is lvl 50 and my Templar is level 20 (mainly because i want it that way.) Thieves can be a little hard if you chose to keep using the Black Leather armor and choose to play the speedster. Maybe its because I chose to focus mainly on attack instead of health. I can't take any hits whatsoever.

2. I also have a Thief and Temple Knight. >.> Odd how that works, haha. Anyway, I started with Thief because, well, I wanted to be a Thief. Nimble, swift, but relatively fragile. I'm not sure if I'd call them "hard mode," but rather "learn your timing" mode. Parrying, and back attacks are what make daggers work, as their normal strikes are nothing all too fancy, but their critical hits will out perform weapons twice as powerful easily. If anything, the hardest part about starting as a Thief, is dealing with those Blue Eyed Knights in 1-1 using a dagger. If you can't parry them, or get a couple of back attacks, the fight will quickly become very challenging. Currently my Thief is level 52, primarily using an Uchigatana, Compound Longbow, and Secret Dagger.

The Temple Knight I made for one reason, and one reason only. The Great Sword. They will be built entirely to use that weapon, and use it well. >.> My Temple Knight is level 10 at the moment, as I just made her. It's just that, for whatever reason, I find The Great Sword completely awesome, but it doesn't suit my Thief at all, so I made a new, armored character to be all "Rawr Hulk SMASH" with it, haha!

3. Sferzar already answered this mostly, but just to add: There is one Talisman that can use both magic, and miracles. It's nice to have if you plan on using both spell types regularly, but it can take a bit of work to obtain. I'll spare you the spoilers on it though.

Completely random, and unrelated question: Did you play FFXI on the Carbuncle Server by any chance?(I realize the name isn't that uncommon, I just thought I'd ask.)

Its funny Syra, my Temple Knight is anything but armored at this point (I have a chain mail chest and the rest of the plate gear.) So he keeps very nible, almost as fast as my thief. So right there we differ, lol.

My thief now has a stick comp bow + 3 and a sharp scimitar & sharp mail breaker +3. It is fun. Very fun.

Totally off topic but you and I should team up Syra, considering we are very close level and both are thieves.

Now back to the topic, I didn't really tell him of the Talisman because maybe i figured he didn't want to have that spoiled.

EDIT: Also, this could be a nice Q&A thread for people who have any novice questions and can't start a thread. So ask away people!

I started as a Soldier which didn't suit me at all. So I made... A thief! Very difficult but oh so satisfying.

Quick question, I am working on 1-1 i started over, well I helped Ostrava, and then I left and went back to the Nexus, then when I came back I went back to the area where he was, i heard fighting so I when down but before I could get to him I think he was killed. Is he gone for good now or will he be waiting at 1-2 to be helped again? Hate to think he is dead, But at least i am not to far could start over with little to worry about.

Sure thing. I'm currently alive, but willing to hop off the top of the Nexus if need be. I'll probably be on in a bit, but first, food. XD

If you saw him die, then he's likely gone for good, or well, until a New Game+. =X So starting over might be for the best if you prefer to have him around. Odd to think he died though, usually he's notably stronger than the locals of 1-1. An easy way to check would be to see if he's in 1-2.

Yeah, he is dead. I recommend that once you save Ostrava on 1-1 you become hellbent on defeating the boss on that run. Just because if you die and start over the level then Ostrava will go back to being back where you saved him. He has a nasty knack of trying to fight his way past the blue knight, which more than likely will get him killed.

Syra: Is your PSN Syra or something else? I can help you as a phantom so you don't have to suicide or anything. Let me know if that is your PSN so we can coordinate something and stop hijacking the thread. :p

Also, Darkshadow let me know when you need help clearing 1-2. I can use my Temple Knight to help you out there.

I had a question. I am starting as royalty and going to make it pretty much all magic. But it is always important to have a back up weapon just in case so i was wondering what is a good secondary to have with the catalyst.

thanks in advanced

Personally, if you're focusing on magic, I'd say to pick an easy to use weapon that can be upgraded along the crescent path. An example of a free one, is the Crescent Falchion+1, which you can find. Crescent weapons use magic as their damage modifier and will slowly regen mp. The Moon path is a good alternative as well, and works with some weapons that don't have a Crescent option, but they don't regen mp.

Well it is but you are going to have to pump Intelligence and Magic, probably some Endurance if you really want to carry the heavy armor. As far as weapons you can use weapons that can be upgraded into "crescent" or "moon" weapons. I say that because those weapons base a lot of their attack power on your Magic stat.

So yea in theory a Mage-Knight is feasible.

I read somewhere that if you stop upping your luck at 8 you get the best drops, is this true. I ran my first toon with 8 and I seemed to get alot of good drops at times and others it sucked, just a sec and i copy paste what it says:

"I am not sure whether it is a glitch or not, but a character with Luck 8
had a better rare item drop than a Luck 99 character. In general, a Luck
99 character will get more drops but most are lesses quality drops. On
the other hand, a Luck 8 character will have less drops, but on average,
the drop are much better in term of quality"

just want to see if anyone else agrees with this.
And my toons name is Muad'Dib and my second is Usal.

I'm not certain, but I believe it to be a case of "player assumption silliness." Basically, Luck most likely increases your drop rate, and that's all it does. Meaning that a player with 99 luck will get more drops than a player with 8 luck. The reason 8 luck appears to have more rare drops, is simply because they get less drops. For example, the 99 luck with grant you 50 drops, and of those, maybe you'll find 1 rare. With 8 luck, you'll get 10 drops, and 1 rare. Thus is appears that 8 is better, but it has nothing to do with luck becoming worse, just that luck only increases drops, not any particular drop.

To shorten that: Chances are more luck is better for drops. However, it wont guarantee more rare drops, because it treats all drops equally.

I hope that made sense. Honestly, I wouldn't upgrade luck until later, unless you plan on using it for a weapon. It's nice to have, and personally, I'd go to 15 or so since as a Thief, I never run out of herbs, ever. Outside of that, though, you'll likely get more from your other stats, since luck wont get much chance to help you, if you can't kill the target to begin with.

No you will need a bow. When I say bow I also mean a BOW not a crossbow.

I played as a royal, however I will mention class in this game means squat after 1-1. My character is a generalist he has no particular overpowering skill. I do admit my highest stats are faith and intelligence though by a decent margin. My only limitation is that there are certain very high str weapons I can't use effectively like the great sword but I meet the requirements for almost every weapon and most of the shields.

Armor wise until just this morning I used the dark leather set with a silver coronet, now I am using the same thing only with the Gloom breastplate. Beyond that I won't discuss gear etc. You never know who you might end up fighting.

This thread is indeed helpful. I have a few questions regarding weapons how much slower is the claymore as compared to the bastard sword and would it hurt my magic knight to up the strength to 18/20 respectively so i can make either a moon bastard sword or a moon claymore. Also when is the soonest to get the items i need to make the moon weapons? Really im asking how long i will be stuck with relatively ineffective weaponry.

It isn't that much slower the main difference is reach and stamina cost per swing. If you want to use a two handed weapon you will need at least 18 str to get by for the record. You can find materials to make moon weapons in 3-1 and materials to make crescent weapons in 4-2. Bear in mind gecko's in latria can drop moon mats and gecko's in the shrine of storms drop the crescent mats. In fact storm shrine gecko's are the only way to get a pure darkmoon stone.

As for builds again, whatever you want to do is what you need to build for. There is room enough to do whatever you want and there is no class or item restriction on gear or spells period. There is nothing stopping a thief from stacking str and wearing plate armor while using a two handed axe or a mage from wearing the same armor while casting fireballs. If you want to be a caster with a big sword it works just fine.

For my personal advice... out of the large swords for your purposes I suggest the Flamberge. It has the same reach as a claymore and while it hits for less damage it has a bleed effect. It is also the only large sword that can be made crescent the Claymore and Bastard sword can only be Moon. Crescent may hit for slightly less but it also has mana regen.

Just a little tip. For those who are thieves, 5-1 and 5-2 are a bitch to go through. 5-1 is a lot of thin ledges to fall off of, so rolling is limited.
5-2 is 99% swamp, which makes it impossible to roll around. Yeah. I've died at least 6 times in 5-2 cause I couldn't avoid an attack. Never lost my souls though :)

Karkarov
10-13-2009, 09:05 PM
The thing to remember about 5-2 is that while slogging through the swamp sucks it is actually very easy to use the swamp as a means to bypass a very large portion of the enemies on your first time through. Once you get the ... "thing" taken care of exploring the area is much less intimidating especially since there are a few key sniper points to use.

I have played another melee character before this is just my first foray into magic really. The bastard sword seems to be a bit slow for me really. Did i just waste those 4 skill points on getting 18 strength or was it ok regardless of whether ill be using strength much once i get a moon weapon? Currently im base knight stats only difference being i have 18 strength 13 intel and 14 magic. Any recomendations on how to make this work out well and what would be a good weapon that is quick but isnt a rapier or scimitar.

I'd say that Strength is fine. It'll let you use a vast array of weapons, though it's not enough to go into things like the Great Sword(Well, you could use it, since you really only want to two hand it anyway), but if the Bastard Sword seemed slow, you'll have zero interest in something that big.

You may enjoy the Uchigatana. It's main drawback is durability, but it has a good bit of reach, is quite swift on the attack, and has good damage output. It should work with both moon and crescent as well, and has a bleed effect.

Or, you could dabble into spears. You'll have to go the moon route there, but I know a lot of people really enjoy them.

There's also straight swords. A little plain, but there's nothing wrong with that. They are very multi-functional too.

this is what ive been up to ive beaten tower knight (finally) and am now trying stonefang

right now i have a good quality bastard sword plus one and a soldiers shiled plus 6 and a steel helm... nothing else right now

so far baldwin is the only one i can buy weapons rom that i know of

the smuggler guy disapeared on me :(

edit*

is there a light armor option? i dont like the idea of wearing plate armor since it makes me slower and the way i play involved alot of dodging and countering.

I have a crushing bastard sword +4 (Getting really bad luck with the pure greystone) which gives me a B rating for str.

I love this weapon. Wide sweeping attacks. Powerful guard break overhand swing to destroy my opponent's stamina.

Basically, the more strength you have with a CRUSHING weapon will give you more damage. QUALITY will gain bonuses from BOTH strength and dexterity.
I read somewhere that quality generally outperforms crushing (I disagree on that. I love crushing my opponent)

Dragon Bone smasher is one of only two "very large swords" in the game. The other is the Great Sword. It does scale with strength so it will get better at +5.... HOWEVER. A +5 Crushing Great Sword will outperform it at around 45 strength or so by my math because once +5 crushing weapons have S scaling with strength. Dragon Bone only has B scaling at +5.

You may want to give the Meat Cleaver a look though.... just a tip... Bearing in mind you understand it can not be upgraded for obvious reasons.

PS: I can not personally confirm this. But ... some importers have told me "named" weapons like the dragon bone have hard damage caps that no matter what their stat scaling is they will never pass. Custom made weapon do not suffer from this cap. Understand I haven't seen this myself, it is just hearsay.

The tower knight is past the third tower and yeah you can beat him whenever, the trick is just to know how to read his movements. There are people who have beaten the whole game as a royal, soul level 1.

Karkarov

I am not going to believe anyone beat the whole game at soul level 1, period. That literally requires never taking a hit, never falling even a moderate drop. Maybe if you took 30 minutes to kite some regular enemies and carried 99 of every spice while never engaging in melee. That kind of game would be more of a snorefest bow exploit run. In other words, not worth playing.

That said you can beat the tower knight easily if you understand his main weakness and are capable of exploiting it. You can also master his timing which works just as well.

Well I beat the excuteror, but the funny thing is i was at extream white WT and now its Nutreal again. Did killing here make it that way or was it me dieing after her on the fall? did i be alive again after killing her?

I am at the area to enter to him. Killed the 2 bowmen on the right side and the left is locked. I havent rescued whats his name yet wanted to kill the tower knight first

Karkarov

when you die in body form you lower world tendency to black. Basically... killing a boss then dying in body form is like a wipe. You ultimately made no change to your WT as a result.

Darkshadow

I don't know man, I'm sure you have seen this but there are people who have made it to the False King and managed to beat him at soul level 1. Granted I have not seen him fight the LAST boss but this is still pretty ridiculous.

That said you can beat the tower knight easily if you understand his main weakness and are capable of exploiting it. You can also master his timing which works just as well.

I don't know man, I'm sure you have seen this but there are people who have made it to the False King and managed to beat him at soul level 1. Granted I have not seen him fight the LAST boss but this is still pretty ridiculous.

Warning: Don't watch this if you want the boss fight spoiled for you.

Ok, need some advise, I finished off the tower knight and cant go any farther in that area i dont think. I am lvl 30 now or so. Anyways I went to 4-1 figured i get some stuff there and try to open up 4-2. Well, i got to the boss and keep getting killed by him, my shield does nothing to block the tongue or the hits. I am using a purple flame shield +3. Lost a total of 30k+ souls to the smuck. so I desided, to go to 2-1 to open up the other BKSMTH, well i got to the round room where 3 or 4 flaming lizards jump down and i had one in front of me and one behind nothing i could do, so Died, I have a blood pool with 3k souls there now, should I grind some to get some higher stats or where should i go. Any points would be good. Dont have to lay it out for me just give me direction to go thank you. sorry for the crit wall text.

In theory he probably could have gotten to that point at say lvl 50 or so and then just kept invading and killing himself down to 1, since the last boss is a joke I could see someone doing that.

That de-leveling trick works i'm assuming... not trying it myself.

I believe that if you use the de-leveling trick he would have negative luck. All the stats he displayed at the beginning are normal for a level 1.

Anyway, Darkshadow. You can go wherever you please, you just gotta be careful. I say if you managed to get to the boss of 4-1 you might as well finish it, just try to get close to the boss and you should be fine.

Actually the de level trick is easy to control. It takes 1 stat only and always from your current highest stat. Luck is a royal's lowest stat so it would never get dropped. Of course it would be interesting in and of itself to plan a character so that you leveled them in a way that left you with exactly starter royal stats.

Looking at the Royal stat line it could be done but you would only be able to level intelligence, dex, and magic.

Yeah i read the deluxe edition guide, my problem is I get 1 or 2 shoted before I get down the first set of stairs. he does this tongue then a slash and it hits me and i am on the stairs. and can I jump off the stairs to get to his feet with out much damage? I know I couldnt make it to the ground from the top. I am quit upset mee messing with me, got down the steps to where the body is on the landing once. I could target the bird on his head and got him to the half way point before dieing. its hard to tell what he is going to do from there and not alot of room to move.

This is what I do. I sprint hugging the right wall until I reach a set of stairs. I run down the stairs then continue running counter clockwise(hugging the wall with my right hand) until I reach the bottom. If you run, the Adjudicator is so fat and slow that he won't touch you, ever.

Approach the tree. When the crow talks to you, open up your inventory and drop the brass telescope on the ground on that exact spot. The crow then will approve (or not).

If she approves, open up your menu, go to system and load your profile (the same character that you are playing). By the tree you will see an item that you can pick up. Congrats on your fragrant ring.

1. Can you always go back to a certain "level" get items you missed?

2. When do you starting improving (+1) your weapons. I have a few stones now but thought it might be a waste using it on the starting weapon.

3. In 1-1, how do you open the gate to executioners ground? I want that brachwood(SP) armor but I can't seem to get that get open.

I have some questions.

1) My game won’t get past a screen after I start up that has the logo and two orbs of light over it on the bottom of the screen. I can’t play, and I got the game new from a Game stop.

2) How hard is it to be a Temple Knight? And how hard is it to be a hunter?

1) Yeah for the most part there are a few times this doesnt apply. If the person you get it from, doesnt show up because of WT being off or they get killed before you get to them and help them etc.

2) i didnt start improving my weapons until I got something that I know I will use for awhile, maybe not forever but for awhile, for me the starting isnt it. My first shield I started upgrading was Purple Flame Shield, bow was the Compressed long bow. etc

3) when you get either high enough White or Black WT. you can tell by the eye in the top right corner.

I have some questions.

2) How hard is it to be a Temple Knight? And how hard is it to be a hunter?

1) I would say return it to game stop for another copy, sounds like there is a problem with the copy, but dont hold me to it.

2) really its what stats and ablitys you want to start out with, Because I am a Royality and now I am no where near that I was when I started. The best thing to do is play a starting class you think you like, play through the Tutorial and 1-1 and by then you know if you want to put more stats into it or what, Also after you play awhile you learn other parts. I started using magic for the most, but now I am really good with a bow and melee. I am using them more when i can.

I've heard of that, but as I was doing the BP Black Skeleton farm on 4-2 for the pure bladestone I wasn't getting anywhere with my luck at 9. I started levelling it to 15, using the Sword of Searching too, and I got it after about 10 more tries.

The tower knight is past the third tower and yeah you can beat him whenever, the trick is just to know how to read his movements. There are people who have beaten the whole game as a royal, soul level 1.

That would be incredible!

Hey everyone. I just ordered Demon's Souls from Amazon.. can't wait for it to get here! I have a couple question though.

How does the game handle disconnects? My router likes to reset itself fairly regularly for some reason. I could ignore the router and plug the modem directly into my PS3, but I don't think the wife would appreciate it if she lost her internet connection so I could slay demons.

So I'm probably going to be dealing with disconnects until I buy a new router. Say I get disconnected in the middle of a battle, will I come back to find myself dead and soulless?

And how long are corpses with souls retrievable? Could I die today, and come back tomorrow to try to get it?

EDIT: One more Q, can you play online and offline with the same character?

The servers themselves aren't very reliable (at least for me) lately, when you get disconnected nothing happens so it's ok. To check whether you're offline, hit Select and if nothing happens, you've been kicked out.

So I'm probably going to be dealing with disconnects until I buy a new router. Say I get disconnected in the middle of a battle, will I come back to find myself dead and soulless?
I'm not sure if you get back to the Nexus or the other person's char dissapears but I'm 100% you don't get killed after a disconnection episode.

And how long are corpses with souls retrievable? Could I die today, and come back tomorrow to try to get it?
You can retrieve your lost souls ANYTIME you want as long as you don't die again.

EDIT: One more Q, can you play online and offline with the same character?
Yes, there's no real distinction between the two modes other than being able to co-op and pvp or not. It's the same game.

The game will exit and save, when you go back it you will be in the same place. You aren't penalized for disconnects. Some people do it on purpose during Pvp, which is extremely cheap and frowned upon.

Take some time and upgrade your Falchion, and specially your shield. You just gotta be careful when you are engaging the blue-eyed knights (I'm guessing those are the bigger enemies you are referring to) and bait them into attacking so their guard is down.

Crystal geckos probably. Or you can get the large sword of searching and drop the world tendency to black. You should up your chances from getting that out of the Reapers in 4-2

Did the boss come back? If so, you're not doing it right... Try climbing up the towers and "take care" of a certain... Liar... up on the catwalks.

I hate spoiling it all at once, but if that wasn't enough of a hint, here you go:

I eventually want a kind of magic rogue , not really heavy armored but nice armor of course :D . A nice sword or even two would be fine with a mix of magic. Any Ideas ? :frown:
Hope you can help

You can do whatever really. If you want to go magic then raise magic. You can make weapons that gain their attack power from your magic power so you can have good melee as well.

There isn't really any wrong way to stack your stats (well, maybe if you raise everything, at least on your first playthrough.) Granted you can do that if you want to be a jack of all trades.

one more question , which skill is more important for melee weapons ? dexterity or strength , because both increase the physical damage ..

Depends on what weapon you want to use. Bastard swords, for example, gain more attack power from Strength while, lets say, a Scimitar gain more attack power from Dex.

Always check out weapons and see what stat they gain the most power from.

So it is more senseful to increase one stat , for example strength , or both strength and dexterity ? My problem is that I think every stat is useful for my idea of character, bot increasing all stats is #### I suppose. Tough :D

Well at least on your first playthrough, yes.

Choose a melee stat and then just find the adequate weapons, or the other way around; find a weapon that you like and raise the stat that it draws more attack power form.

It's really your choice.

As far as weapon choice goes Sferzar is right but it is more complex than that at the same time. Ultimately you will upgrade your weapons to new types such as crushing or sharp. When you do this it will change what stats they scale with. Your best bet is to find a weapon you like the feel of then do some online research on the demon souls wiki and decide which upgrade path sounds the nicest to you. After than stack your stats accordingly.

Also there is nothing wrong with a generalist so long as you are willing to accept you will do less damage than other players. My main is a generalist and is perfectly fine. It gives you the rare strength of being able to use any tactic when that tactic is the best choice. Yes someone else may be better at that thing but the specialist eventually runs into a situation he will suck in, the generalist never will. The big drawback other than doing not as much damage is you will also have less health probably and you have to spend way more time grainding mats for a large variety of weapons.

To me, it seems that the generalist is usually a build for people who have a lot of experience with the game, like yourself. But yea, thanks for correcting me on the weapons. Like I said before, this game will be great to you if you do a lot of planning ahead of time.

EDIT: Also, let me through a little question your way Karkarov. What do you think of the curved rapier? I've been hunting for one but I'm not so sure how it stands as far as rapiers go.

Karkarov
10-18-2009, 08:37 PM
Spiral rapier as I recall has lower damage than the others (not alot lower) but also has a bleed. At the long term it will probably pan out better than the others simply because a bleed will make up a 10-20 base damage gap easily. I believe the Estoc has better reach though and it is the highest base damage. I am fairly sure they all have the same upgrade options as well. So rapier wise I would say the spiral rapier or the estoc are definately the two best choices. If you plan to go mercury or fatal I think the spiral's bleed would probably sync best but thats just opinion.

Rapier's are underated. They can be used behind shields like spears and an off handed rapier can also be used to parry.

EDIT: Well after looking at it I do have to admit if you take the Epee Rapier to +5 with colorless DS's and you are a high magic build it will be your top performer. But again that's only if you +5 it and are magic spec. Most Rapier users will probably be dex. To add on (why not make it more convoluted) a +5 Sharp Estoc paired with Curse Weapon will be your top damage overall if you are dex spec.

What determines your normal run speed / ability to roll many times?

i've seen people run faster than me with full brushwood set / shield and i'm using the dark silver set.

is it purely an endurance thing? or a % of your overall equip?

Thanks Kakarov, I'm definitely a dexterity build so I'm going to try to see if I can get a sharp rapier + and see how I well I can off-hand it. Although the estoc does sound like the better alternative.

And also to add on to the discussion, how fast you can move with, lets say the brushwood armor, depends on either how high your endurance is or whether you have the great ring of strength.

Most people with the heavier sets have the ring on.

Karkarov
10-19-2009, 05:25 AM
With brushwood even if you use the ring you are still going to be slow unless you have a ludicrously high endurance.

The 3-1 boss revives everytime you leave and enter unless you've killed the Dregling above her chamber. He is casting some sort of yellow looking spell. Once he is dead killing the fool's idol sticks.

If you don't kill him the fool's idol will never die.

I myself started as a Knight as I like heavy weapons, and armor. I also play more towards a "Paladin" which is the Temple Knight or Knight...but I don't care for spears so Temple Knight is out.

Hey, great stuff here. I'm picking up the game on Wednesday and am super excited. I've been looking for a challenge, and this game's style (atmosphere/gameplay) is right up my alley! I've been reading a lot about stats, weapons, etc, but still have some questions if you all don't mind.

I haven't seen much in the way of faith based builds...are these not very viable? There are some weapons that can get boosts from the faith stat correct? The prayers themselves seem kind of lackluster, but I'm not a big fan of having to use potions (spice?) all the time to restore my mp so using prayers sparingly (as opposed to spamming magic) seems like it may suit me better. Also, the mace looks freaking awesome and I like paladin melee/magic-hybrid types.

So what is the consensus on faith builds? Effective enough? The magic resistance seems like it would be helpful, but I have no idea how much magic-wielding enemies are in the game. If I do go faith, what other stats should I focus on increasing? I assume I can forgo magic (intelligence?) entirely, but should I increase willpower for the mp boost or is not worth it? Strength, vitality, endurance? I don't need specific numbers, but a general ratio would be helpful.

I guess my concern is that I won't get the faith-based weapons until late in the game and since the only offensive prayer is late in the game as well I'll be severely gimped if I keep boosting faith. Thoughts?

Otherwise, the curved blades look pretty sweet and I may try a dex/sword/bow rogue at some point. Join the club eh?

Thanks guys!

To OP:

I would suggest the royalty character since it is lvl 1 and can be upgraded very easy, even if you want to play as an armored class there is no problem making it into one, but i would suggest making it a mage knight, is a well balanced class can take some dmg and deals dmg.

Yes luck those increase the drop rate got a soullvl 80 raider with luck 50 if i remember correctly and i allways get good drops, compared to my lvl 130 mage knight

Hi guys sorry to barge in but I'll introduce myself here since the new user's section is MIA (I looked and looked and looked and couldn't find it). I'm probably blind but I just want to get to posting already. :)

I love this game like no other. Atlus and Fromsoftware did a great job creating a game world that is truly alive and makes you feel like you are part of something big. Nothing but praise from me, but there are some questions.

1. I had 95% failure rate while trying to summon last night. A better question, if I can see the soul signature in my world, does this mean that a summon SHOULD work, or do I have to click on the signature first, then wait for a possible match. I want to know if it's my internet connection or if it's a soul level issue or maybe the servers...

2. This is a game breaker for me.. In my first playthrough, I was able to get a Colloseum Key to the gate in 1-1 behind the red eyed knight. I then defeated the Old King where I believe I obtained the Demonbrandt and the cool looking Green armour. However, during my current playthough, the keys were not given to me by the knight (Otavian?) in world 1-3 when I saved him. I talked to him after saving him for the 3rd time and all he gave me was a pure stone of some kind. I searched the Wiki, but the wiki does not have a section for keys, so now I have to ask someone on here if they know how to get the key to the Colloseum to fight the Old King. Love that sword!

My favorite part of the game is when it starts all the way up until the very end. Basically I loved every controller throwing second.. heh..

The game Auto-Matches, the fact that you could see the soul sign means you could summon that person.

I've actually "Failled to Join Session" when trying to be summoned more then 4x in a row, I figure it's just due to the fact that it's a new server in the US...thus why it's getting maintenance on the 21st.

Oh no, I didn't know he did that to himself. I must have been somewhere else in the world when that event happened because I simply found the keys laying in a dead end alley.... And when you say after the blue dragon, you mean after killing the False King right? Well, he's too tough for my character right now plus summoning is hit or miss at the moment. Gonna have to do some grunt work and level up a bit.. :)

Karkarov, you're right, I was thinking about the Mousoleum. But now I'm curious where the Colloseum is since you mentioned it.

It is where you fight the Tower Knight. Go back to the bridge you got there from originally and on the left and right are two doors. One is open and goes upstairs to where the archers are placed covering the approach while the other is locked and goes downstairs to the jail.

Thanks for all the advice so far guys. :)

Unbelievably, Ostrava is gone in my game. I talked to him 3 times after saving him for the third time and all he said was "My father is just over there" and wouldn't give the keys. Now, he is nowhere to be found at all... Is there a code to get all the keys?

I went back and fought my way through the entire first world (1-1 all the way to the False King chamber, killed the blue dragon, searched everywhere and anywhere, he's not in the nexus, he's not in the prison where Borr was, he's just gone and I don't have the keys.. I'm pissed now because I spent alot of time searching... this game has a bad habit of not keeping dropped items (or apparently critical game altering items such as keys) in the world once you go back to the nexus. I never saw the suicide scripted out either..

Karkarov
10-21-2009, 09:10 AM
Yeah Game that means he somehow died somewhere in 1-3, there are some red eye knights that MIGHT get him if you aren't cautious. I think I slipped up and let it happen myself in my last playthrough in fact due to getting distracted by a BP invasion in his area. I will tell you right now, this is hardly "game breaking" if you don't like large swords or want Doran's gear it doesn't even matter to you. On the next play through if you want to be uber sure just take him out when you first meet him.

Gamefanatic
10-21-2009, 09:52 AM
Negative, he did not die, as I had previously stated. I was able to save him. Last I saw of him he was wandering around randomly in 1-3 mumbling about his father being just over there. The only thing I can think of is I had summoned a phantom to help me and he was the one who opened the gate that saved Ostrava from the 2 red eye knights. Maybe because I didn't open the gate, it triggered a bug. He never died and I talked to him several times trying to get the keys, he never gave them to me..but most assuredly he was alive and well.

But to answer you, yes it was critical to me to get that sword (Demonbrandt).. not so much the armour, but the sword..MOST DEFINETELY. Thanks for trying to help me though, I appreciate it. :)

Possibly. But wouldn't there be a glowing yellow orb with the keys at the spot where he died?

All I know is that in my previous game, where I actually was able to get the keys, that sword (Demonbrandt) killed the Knight that protected the arch demon in 5-4 with 3 or 4 hits. The +5 scimitar I have now doesn't even scratch the armour, so getting that sword was criticial to me.

Per the wiki, the Orb would be gone if you left the world. I wish I knew the answer to this one - It must be frustrating for you, but I am leaning towards he got axed and you mistakenly left the world. The fight with Vinland can take a while with a weak weapon - I spent 10 minutes there last night with a Moon Winged Spear +4. But, his attacks are so easy to dodge, you get through it.

Try killing the fat official guarding the gate lever.

And no, you do not need to take the lift to get to the 2-2 lizard nest from flamelurkers archstone. You obviously have to pass through the room but this time you are coming in through a passage and can attack the lizards in that room from range. With the lift entry they are already running by the time you enter the room. It makes it quite a bit easier to get the initial two lizards in the lift room as a result.

Hi, I'm new here and this is my first post :)

I have a few questions;

1) Magic attribute points - do they scale with your soul level?

I ask this because I have a 55 soul level character, and once I put 20 points in Magic, it stopped up-ing my magic power. For example, when I use Soul Arrow, it does the same damage with 20 magic points as it does with 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 26, 27, 28, and 29. The only damage modifiers I notice is when I change out my cat. from silver to wooden. I do not have insanity yet. I just hope i didnt waste nine 12,000 soul points in magic when i could have used it in a better way for the early part of the game. I started as royalty and built my character as a pure mage, mainly intel and mag points, with some points in vit.

2) For those magic users out there, what spells you like the best for normal game play and pvp?

I passed on soul ray, which i regret (at the time i didnt know that boss souls were traded in) and I picked firestorm over gods wrath, which i also regret. My friend hyped up firestorm so much but it takes up 3 slots and seems to have a very limited use. So i'm curious with 6 magic slots, which spells does everyone out there prefer?

Thanks for the help!

I'm new to the game, currently at soul level 46 and now trying to work on some upgrades for my weapons.

I'm building my character to be a rogue type, which is what I usually play in most role playing games, so I'm working on bows and wielding small, quick weapons, while still trying to keep diverse as I've seen that in certain situations my mace or spear come in handy.

So far, the stats I'm working on are DEX and END as priority.

Thus far, my core stats are as such:

DEX - 26
STR - 14
END - 18
VIT - 13

Is that good so far? And after DEX and END, what is a good stat to focus on? Should I even bother with STR if I'm focusing so much on DEX and weapons that get their bonus from DEX? Or should I work on VIT instead of END and STR?

Also, I cannot recall what lvl they are at, but I do have some points in INT and Magic just for Soul Arrow in case I run out of arrows or the mob is weak versus magic, but is a melee/magic rogue type viable, that way to take advantage of being able to switch either between magic and non magic weapons? Or is casting the enchants on my weapon good enough? I could pump magic, but I don't want to do it at the expense of my DEX and END.

Last question, are daggers viable? I got my hands on a secret dagger and I'm upgrading it through bladestones, and was wondering if it would be a good combination for when I get my hands on the parrying dagger. Or are curved blades like falchions and scimitars or even rapiers recommended?

Try killing the fat official guarding the gate lever.

And no, you do not need to take the lift to get to the 2-2 lizard nest from flamelurkers archstone. You obviously have to pass through the room but this time you are coming in through a passage and can attack the lizards in that room from range. With the lift entry they are already running by the time you enter the room. It makes it quite a bit easier to get the initial two lizards in the lift room as a result.

He's already dead - I've already cleared 1-3, including the Penetrator, and the gate is open. We're on the same page on 2-2, I was basically referring to the nest itself, and yes, those 2 gecko's are tough to get coming down the lift.

I'd stop putting points into Endurance personally. Seeing you're basically a ranged character, stamina shouldn't be an issue, I imagine you are going with lighter armor, so equipped weight doesn't matter and you can get a both Poison and Bleed fixes from Lotus'.

You should find a Compound Long Bow to upgrade to Skicky or use the Lava Bow - At 30 Dex., you'll be doing good damage(I took down the Blue Dragon with 75 or so arrows while aggro'd with Clever Rat's). You might want to pump up strength to carry one of the better Shields, like the Purple Flame(Which Damage cuts fire 90% and physical 100%) which needs a 22 in strength(You can use it with less, but you take a stamina hit.)

I love having the flexibility of using Magic or my Bow(With a Winged Spear when I need to melee), but that's a personal decision. Like any RPG, there are some really good spells and some crap ones. I will say that magic does help with a few of the bosses. A lot of folks would consider Flamelurker one of the tougher bosses for instance, but he goes down very easily with Soul Arrow.

I haven't used daggers, so hopefully someone else can give you the lowdown on those...

Question about stats, I was reading somewhere that you should keep Mgic and faith close together, then somewhere else should keep faith and intel close together, which is it, and why?

Depends on the style you want to play. If you are a pure Caster, you want to pump up Intel because each level increases MP and you'll have to use less spice - But if you are doing pure Caster, you can mitigate that with some +MP regen equip. If you do a mix, then you probably want to stop Intel when you have the amount of slots you are happy with and pump up Magic and Faith. Keep in mind that there are diminishing returns on Intel, but Magic and Faith go up 100 per level up to 9900.

Yeah, I got my hands on the long compound, working on upgrading it at the moment. Yeah, i try to be ranged when I can... but, for example, I'll do a range shot on a skeleton, and then roll down in my face before I can even blink, which gives me no time to back off and shoot another arrow due to the delay in shots. So that leaves me to melee.

As for the shield, I have been eyeing the purple flame, however, I see that it's a large shield and I cannot parry with it, since I do riposte quite a lot with my dagger.

Once you get your bow to Sticky +5 with a decent Dex, you won't have to worry about the skeletons doing anything after you hit them with an arrow.:D

My current character is mainly built around Bows and Magic, so when I do have to do melee I use the spear to try and keep some distance - I have such a low Vit. that if I take a couple of hits, I'm a goner. I haven't used it, but a lot of people swear by the Dark Silver Shield(Don't think you can get it until 5-3), which I think you'll be able to riposte while using - Someone here will know.

Edit - And BTW Modern, since your using comparatively low damage weapons, you might want to consider checking out the Clever Rat's Ring. It significantly increases damage when your HP are less than 30%. You can get the Makato Sword which will reduce your HP over time to get to that level. If you do go this route, don't put any points into Vit. - It won't help you a bit.

Hi, I'm new here and this is my first post :)

I have a few questions;

1) I don't know about this, I have never observed this. My spells seem to scale with every point. I haven't used soul arrow in awhile so perhaps the weakest spells have some kind of cap?

2) Some very valuable spells:

(PVE)
Soul Ray - It's fast, it's powerful, it pierces, only 1 slot

Warding - Reduces all damage your character takes by a lot. Makes many parts of the game MUCH easier, as very few things will 1-shot you with warding on.

Firestorm - I actually love firestorm, although I don't carry it around all the time. It's awkward, it takes a lot of slots, but it completely destroys any enemies with weakness to fire. For example, try it on Maneater. Crushes him!

Poison cloud - 1 slot, allows you to kill enemies that are otherwise too powerful for you. Works on most black phantom npcs, including the named ones.

(PVP)
First, understand that some players will have the dark silver shield, which grants 100% magic block. Many also will use anti-magic field, which means you absolutely need to have a decent melee weapon you are good with, even if you are a mage. There are a few weapons that scale well based on your magic stat, pick these up.

Homing soul arrow - OWNS people that don't have either dark silver shield or anti magic field. Devastating spammable spell that can't really be avoided.

Wrath of god / Firestorm - Easier to hit with wrath of god, but you can often annhilate people by tricking your opponent to run towards you. Try running away from your opponent, going around a corner, and immediately casting these spells, it will often hit them right in the face as they catch up. Can also knock them off cliffs.

If you want to be a bastard.... Acid Cloud- I personally only use this on people that invade me when i'm in no mood to be invaded. Will wreck their gear. Even if they have anti magic field just wait for an opening and use this. They will run home crying.

Daggers are designed for critical hits(backstabs and ripostes). So long as you're putting a lot of effort into managing those critical hits, they are wonderful weapons. Their R2 attacks make for decent filler when you can't manage either critical option, but your priority should be the former. In fact, I don't think there would be anything better to pair with the Parrying dagger, since there isn't much which will top a properly upgraded dagger at riposte damage.

(Oh, and yes, you can parry with the Dark Silver Shield. It also looks really cool.)

Depends on your stats and weapon preference. Also there are tons of "good swords" in the game found in loot. Dragon Longsword in 2-2, Large Sword of Moonlight, Crescent Falchion in 4-1, a Great Sword in 1-3, Flamberge in 3-2, Dragon Bone Smasher, Epee Rapier, Mercury Rapier in 3-1, etc etc you get the picture.

Thanks for the replies, all very helpful :)

Truth is, I just love daggers. Every single damn RPG, I have a toon with a dagger, light armor and a bow inclination.

I am tempted though, to also make a second character, built more like a warrior or knight just to see how that plays. So stupid question, can one trade items or weapons with another profile in your game? If not, best way to do it would be to find someone I can trust, right?

Two, lets say with new game plus I want to try a different play style, is it too late to switch it up due to my stats allocation of choice during the first run?

Sferzar
10-22-2009, 07:09 PM
As far as trading between characters I gotta say no, you can't. You can trade it through a third party if he happens to be between 10 levels of the toon you want to give the stuff too. It is almost not worth it. I don't know about your other question.

I got a question myself: I am currently using a Sharp Kijilk (or whatever) +4 and I am trying to think of a good off hand weapon. I was thinking of the a spiral rapier but I can't seem to decide how to upgrade it. I was thinking of going mercury but I am not too sure if I should do that or just go sharp with it for more damage.

Any suggestions?

Yeah, just a tad... I don't think I'll ever get them now... ugh...

In a perfect twist of irony, he disappeared on me last night. I had been keeping him locked up in 1-2 until starting Mephistophele's murderous rampage. Went to let him out at 2 after clearing the level and then went to 3 and he never showed up at the gate as I so clearly instructed him to! Mephistophele keeps doubting my validity as a bad-ass by mocking me with "I gave you a simple task..." That bastard Ostrava is getting back-stabbed in 1-1 for NG+ purely out of spite.

No way. Dumb isn't it? I'm telling you, this has ruined the game for me...RUINED I tell ya! :) I spent so much time leveling my character up, all so I could take on the Old King and get Demonbrandt....and the game bugged out on me and didn't give me the keys. 38 hours of leveling up for the intent purpose of aquiring the sword, and then just killing everything in one hit. I feel there should be a code to get the keys or something.

I tried to start ALL OVER again tonight, but I got halfway through the tutorial and shut it off.. I must have put 200 hours into this game already...wow.. my brain hurts... :)

You don't need any soul for it you just pull it out of the ground. Of course you need PWWT to get to it. Take a look around the Dragon Gods shrine for starters.....

PS: GameFanatic you do know you get Soulbrandt 100% lock no chance of fail at end game and it is basically the same sword just scales with black instead of white CT?

Well, my intent was to get demonbrandt and kick everything's butt with one hit for a while and enjoy the dominance (not to mention helping others while in soul form). I didn't really want to beat the game with this character per se. Not yet anyway. Female soldier Lvl. 87 using Dull Gold Armour...Beautiful armour, I love it.. the winged helmet looks particularly neat..

I have another lvl 82 character in NG+ with Soulbrandt, but I don't think I have the proper levels to use it to it's full potential yet. I didn't really like how extraordinarily difficult NG+ was to be honest. Those beginning level flamelings just about kill me every time.. probably because I was getting cocky..lol.. Gotta slow it down a bit because they deal heavy damage now.

Well, I bought Drakes fortune 2, it's good, not as good as this game though. Most of the game is very forgetable. Boring - lame shooting mechanics and the controls are not very tight.. Beautiful to look at, but pales in almost every way to Demon's Souls...

So I jumped on last night and checked 1-3 again and he wasn't there. I said screw it and figured I'd just finish the game. I had already cleared 1-4 of the Blue Dragon, so just ran in there to take care of the BP and False King. Well, guess who was sitting on the steps leading to the BP?!?!? I just shot him with an arrow and picked up the key, killed the BP and King and went back to the Nexus. Went to see Mephistopele's and she accepted the kill and allowed to proceed with Yuria. So, I got the Foe's Ring that I was seeking after all and was able to get Demonbrandt and the King's Armor as an added bonus. And, BTW, King Doran was a bitch to take down...

Probably light armor if you can avoid being encumbered at all. If not, go as heavy as possible without becoming a statue. Wield the spear in your main hand; swing the big sword to clear groups or take adavntage of its long reach. Keep a shield on backup in case things don't work out. Statwise, strength is your friend. Maybe Magic and pump the spear full of Moonlight Stones to bypass most weaker shields.

So I keep reading on here and other forums that for one's world tendency to not reset, don't quit the game in the Nexus. Yesterday I was working on getting World 2 to Pure Black, and I finally did so after consuming 7 eyes and getting killed. The BP shows up, tried fighting him two times and got my ass handed to me by his magic so I decide to quit and try again later, and I do so while still in World 2.

An hour later I load up my game and I see BP Scirvir is not there! I check my WT screen and it's no longer Pure Black, but neutral! I was so annoyed, especially after wasting all those eyes :(

How can I avoid this?

HijiriOni

Offline, only way

Your WT is influenced by people online, and will fluctuate to the online average.

Stonefang had the same deal for me, after using 7 eyes, failing to kill scirvir, then grinding out some levels, 4 days go by, it's perfect white, and good scirvir appears.

Exactly, if you really want to complete the PB and PW tendency events, it is important that you play offline.

Currently it's easier to get your worlds White because everyone else has high white worlds, so you only have to kill 1 or 2 bosses, or just 1 boss but bring 2 blue phantoms and it almost gurantees pure white.

Pure black is currently another story...but thankfully you can always die to make a world darker, you can't make it whiter once you've cleared it's archdemon though.

I assume if you go help other people as a blue phantom and make their worlds whiter, making the average whiter, yours will eventually whiten up too but I really don't know if this would be practical.

Modern-Clix

Yeah, want to try to get the black events in this run, because I don't want pure black in new game plus o.o

The miners in World 2 were killing me with one hit in Pure Black. Doesn't help that my VIT is low at 13, but it's been the last of my worries stat wise, since I've been focusing on getting DEX to 30 and now working to bring my END up to 30 or 40 before moving on to STR, since I mostly play ranged and daggers.

Question...or more precisely, did I find a bug:

I'm in 3-1 ( I think...how do you know what section you are in?). At a certain point (trying to avoid spoilers here), let's just say I am at the top of a staircase... I want to help out with a boss, and I drop a blue symbol....things go great, but then it says "You are....blah blah as a BLACK phantom" Huh? Then I end up in this weird big place that could pass as a furniture store house, and there is an ancient dude who whips a towel at me, and gives me a case of permanent towelhead...

He doesn't say anything, and no one has mentioned anything in the nexus about this (except for some references to "golden clothes" from Sage Freke)...
So i stand there wondering why there are now 4 golden orbs around my head...then I hear some noises, then another player appears, we battle, I lose, and go back...WTF? This happened twice, then I stepped back a few paces dropped a blue soul sign, and then everything happened as expected...

Just let me know if this is a glitch, no need to fully explain what is going on if this is something that should happen....

This is supposed to happen. The archdemon of Latria is too weak to battle players and so he uses his last remaining energy to summon a black phantom (you in that case) to fight a player for him. When you drop a soul sign in world 3 there is a chance you will get summoned by said archdemon.

I have a low vitality build as well(9 or 10 I think) and basically everything in NG+ can one-hit you - Especially in Soul Form. That being said, I haven't found it that much more difficult than my first run through - Just need to be careful.

Karkarov
10-26-2009, 07:38 AM
Uh if you play ranged and daggers with high dex there really is no good reason to raise your str. Even endurance is sidebar at best as all your attacks are low stamina use and you probably don't wear heavy armor.

Um im brand new at the game, i got through 1-1 and i keep dying at 1-2 haha, but my question is how should you go about spending your souls on skills? like i know i want to have sword shield and bow, i used hunter, but i dont want to waste souls, thanks for any help.

The beauty of this game is that you get the freedom to level up however you like. One thing though, try to focus on one attacking stat (strength, dexterity, magic, faith.) Considering that you want to use a sword you might want to focus on strength.

But other than that go ahead and level up however you like.

Karkarov

Swords (especially straight swords) are crazy versatile. There is no need to "go str" if you want to use a sword. Instead decide what kind of build and fighting style you want long term. Mostly ranged with a bow and sword for support? Spells with some melee? Melee tanking beast? Etc etc. Once you decide your playstyle picking your weapons becomes alot easier and selecting the stats to boost those factors because kinda obvious.

I guess by swords I thought of straight swords immediately, sorry about that.

You are right, you can play a dex heavy chracter that can use bows as well as swords, I happen to do this on my main. You can use curved sword since they benefit from dexterity. You can also use a broadsword since it is straight sword that is modified by dexterity.

So yeah, you have a lot of options.

Well, would like to raise STR in case in my new game plus I decide to switch it up a notch. I'm not leveling my magics beyond the points I put into them for some memory slots for some buff spells.

So I have DEX at 30 now, and STR at 16 and END at 30. Thinking of raising STR a bit more. Or is that a bad idea? I'm at SL 60 I think last time I checked? Give or take.

I dont know how to check deaths. The large compound bow is in 4-1. Kill the first few skeletons. Then there will be 2 archer skeletons on top of an archway, kill them or ingore then, it doesnt matter. There is a hallway in that archway. Go left, you will hit a pressure plate that springs a trap. Hug the left wall and you will be fine. Go right at when you hit the wall the arrows shot out of.

There are some more skeletons and 2 towers here that you can climb. The CLB is on top one of them.

Reload? What do you mean? I've dropped off the augmite(?) but never got anything in return.. do I have to leave the world, go to the nexus, then come back to get the item? Seems like an odd thing to do, but I'll do it if it means I get the trade item. I know what the item is as I had read it in the Wiki, but couldn't get the Eagle to drop anything before...

If you go to the Nexus and return, the item will be there. Or, for a much quicker way, you can hit start and reload and the item will be there. It drops towards the rear of the tree.

Reload means press start and go to the options (the last tab on the menu) and click on load profile. You basically load your profile up and you will be back in that world and should see what the bird girl has given you in return.

By the way Gamefanatic, this is also an excellent way to respawn Crystal Geckos so you don't have to keep returning to the area. If you reload, the Geckos will respwn until they reach the the number of bosses you have killed in the world plus 1.

Neat, :) but how do you know if the game had saved up to the point where you actually reload your profile? There's no indicator on-screen to know, so it's possible you could be reloading your older stats, correct?

This feature may help get out of some untimely deaths if your quick enough..

I'm sure it's possible. However, in the probably 100 or so times that I have done it, I have always reloaded exactly where I stand. The was a thread going around with people doing that when they get killed. Apparently, it caused some glitches in people's games. So, take that for what it's worth. I personally wouldn't do it - I'm used to dying........

Every time you die, loot a body, use a consumable, etc the game saves. The only time this isn't the case is in the tutorial where it never saves. Your first actual save is character creation and the second save hits when you spawn in the nexus. So the trick with the gecko's is after you get back to the position you want you just use a consumable. Like a crescent grass. The game saves you hit start and reload your profile.

The save gets corrupted because people are quitting their game while the save is in progress. Such as dieing and quitting game before the save completes.

All good info. I'm currently in a bidding war on ebay for a strategy guide. The deluxe edition is going for over 100 bucks, and I've seen it as high as 125 bucks so far. Hi.

I am having a heck of a time getting pure white. I especially want pure white in world 2.

so I can get the Dragon bone smashed. is it just me or is getting pure white tough.

I have started over 3 times now. how do I keep messing pure white up.

any death in body form is a move toward black right.

if I get killed by a Black phantom is that a move to black?
if i invade and kill the person is that a move to black
if I help kill a boss as a blue. does that help my white.
any other way too move toward white other than killing bosses in my world
or defeating a black phantom

thanks

One surefire way to get to PW is to play offline and get the world to PB getting killed in the the world, return to the Nexus, revive, repeat. Once you are at PB, make sure you are in Soul Form and go kill the BP and Primeval Demon in that world without returning to the Nexus. After you get those two down, return to Nexus and then go kill a boss in the world at your leisure. You are then at PW.

It is possible to get to PW if you are close to it and playing online - The community might give a push to get you there. Just don't get killed in Body Form in that world and keep checking it.

Endurance is fully in charge of that. Rule of thumb, if you want to roll normally you will want to have equipped no more than half the number of your "equip burden."

1: Yes it is.
2: Pretty sure it is CT only.
3: No all you get is your body back and souls, helping as blue phantom does nothing for tendency unless you happen to kill a BP in the process which gives you White CT.
4: No. However! Killing the pure black BP's ups it as well as the primeval demons. Also if you kill "mini bosses" it ups it. Such as the red dragon in 1-2. Lastly if you summon blue phantoms and they help you kill a boss you get a bonus White shift if they lived through it, the bonus goes up if you use 2 phantoms as well.

It is like bait in the old legend of zelda games, it makes enemies approach it and theoretically gives you an opening to attack. They also make pretty bright lights that sparkle.

here is a total newb question about these 2 stats

Intelligence effects MP and when leveling up it will go from say 150-160
Magic effect "Magic Power" and when leveling up goes from say 1900-2000

while MP and magic power are the same (i think) that is a big difference in the numbers used for showing an increase

what is the difference between MP in Intelligence vs Magic Power in Magic?

obie191970
10-28-2009, 11:49 AM
The MP in intellegence refers to how many points on your blue bar you have - It's basically Mana that you see in other games. Every spell costs a certain amount of MP points. Soul Arrow costs 5 and Firestorm costs 100, for instance. So, the more MP points you have, the longer you can go in between eating spices. Magic Power is, well, the power or intensity of the spell.

Alright I am very new to this game. So far love it. A couple questions : the manual says when you die in body form you will return to the Nexus in soul form and after dying, from Vanguard, in the tutorial I returned there with all souls. Now after dying in 1-2 I just spawned back at the Phalanx archstone in soul form with no souls. Am i missing something, was this a one time thing with the tutorial, did a patch affect this or something? Next one, might be obvious but what happens when you die by the hands of a black phantom? Being a human, not a blue phantom, do you die like normal, lose all souls in the bloodstain and can retouch it to get them back, or does the phantom take your souls so you cant reclaim them? When you are a blue phantom, are you sent back to your own world still in soul form with no other penalties or what? Thanks in advance.

So just started to do some pvp by invading world 4 since I already got all the tendency events in that one, and don't mind what effects it has on my character.

Man, it's tough. I got creamed in all 3 matches I did. I roleplay rogue, so of course I wear black leathers for mobility, and use a sticky compound long bow +5 and the sharp secret dagger +5 and the scraping spear to mess someone's durability.

Let me tell you, that unlike PvE, I found my bow to be useless and I for the life of me could not get a parry, backstab or riposte off for the life of me. On top of that, I could not get their life bar down for the life of me. Seems every time I hit them, I would do such minimal damage, yet when I got whacked, there goes a quarter of my HP. My stamina couldn't even keep up with theirs either.

Any tips for PVP? Also, I see more heavy armor knight/warrior types playing as opposed to light armor types like me... and I am pretty sure that plays a good role in me not being able to put any sort of dent in them.

1. No, nothing is wrong. You will die at the tutorial stage and will be given your souls, but after that you will lose them and have to restart the level. You do have a chance to get them back if you can make it to the spot where you died.

2. Nothing happens when you get killed by a Black Phantom, except dying. You get to go pick up your bloodstain like normal. The only thing that Black Phantom gains from killing you is a physical body.

3. You don't lose anything for helping out someone as a blue phantom and dying.

if a black phantom kills a blue phantom, the black phantom takes the blue's souls. that is the only penalty. any other death by a blue is as you said, no penalty, just sent back to your world.

The Halloween event has shifted everything to Pure Black World Tendency. Those two red knights are Black Phantoms, which only appear during PBWT. So no, it's not a bug.

that is not a bug. you are most likely in pure black WT, and the red ones are black phantoms. i had them spawn on me in 1-1 when i went to fight old king doran today so i ended up with 2 BPs and 1 red eyes knight on me at the same time lol, that was a fun fight.

After you have run around 1-1 you can open some levers, 1 lever opens the big gate near the start. So if you head back to start you should find him in the fog area. Hope this helps.

I also bought the game yesterday, I enjoy it very much, its very challenging.

But I am having a little trouble with the Tower Knight (havent tried him at this level) because now I am having trouble getting to him, because of the red glowing knights near the fog(Which I think has to do with the halloween event?) Does anyone have any hints for me?
