If you go back up the stairwell (where you found the ring) and out on the top of the wall, there is some stairs behind a blue-eyed Knight on the right side.
You also said you have seen the dragon, are those the ones sitting on a grassy hill, or flying over a bridge? That bridge is right next to the grassy hill, so if you have been there, continue on over the bridge and you should get there eventually.
hello everyone i just got this game yesterday an its awsome, an having the a hell of a time staying alive i found my class i enjoy the most so far, but i can not find phalanx anyone can help me please do. thanks in advance i have checked the wiki site it just shows how to defeat him but i can not find him what so ever i have been to the end of the lv i think i seen the dragon if that helps
The dragon nest(hill with two dragons) is an optional area, you don't need to go there to reach the boss. So from that area, backtrack to the location you killed the pair of spear soldiers. Assuming you're backtracking from the dragons, your left should lead to a bridge. If you're coming from the start of the level, it should be straight across from you, rather than left to the dragons.
If you cross that bridge, you'll find a lever in the first room you enter, this opens the door to Phalanx. If you continue on the path, you find another lever which will open a gate back to the level entrance. The Phalanx battle is in the large door, you'll now find open. In other words, the level is a circle you must traverse to unlock the boss area, so now you can simply run straight in.

Royal is only easier in the beginning. Every class can use everything, it becomes a matter of what you, the player, decides to do. Not what you started as.
Dragon God is more about technique, than stats. You'll slap yourself with how easy it is when you actually win. >.>
You're not skilled enough for the Purple Flame Shield because it requires 22 Strength to wield with one hand, or 15 Strength to wield with two hands(which is pretty pointless, as it's a shield).
Strength doesn't stop being effective, it just doesn't increase your attack every level, sometimes it skips a level or two before giving you another boost. It will still effect Strength based bonuses on Quality and Crushing weapons, even if it doesn't boost the attack stat that level. Dex, of course, is the same way, but gets a bonus from different weapon paths.
There isn't really a right, or wrong weapon though, it's more about whether or not the weapon suits your playstyle. So use whatever you enjoy using, and upgrade your stats to further improve how well you can use it. If you're unsure as to what weapon you want to focus on, I recommend looking at the wiki (http://www.demons-souls.com/wiki/). It's still in need of more information, but the equipment page, and upgrading page should give you a few ideas on what might interest you.
Daggers aren't designed to do a lot of damage with normal attacks. They are meant to be used with critical hits, in other words, backstabs and ripostes. If you can master those, the dagger will seem much more impressive. The Dragon Longsword, however, is a very versatile weapon, and Dragon weapons in general are great early on, though they will eventually lose a bit of their effectiveness due to a lack of stat bonuses.
Yes, the black worlds are part of the Halloween event. It'll likely end tonight, or tomorrow if I were to guess, but I'm not sure what Tendency they'll be reset too.
No, the Flute Set is essentially a light plate armor, it's always going to out perform Black Leather at defense, though you'll roll like a brick. The more defense you have, the less mobility you'll have, and the slower your endurance will regenerate. The reason Black Leather doesn't have a lot of defense, is because it's designed with no endurance penalty, and barely weighs a thing, meaning anyone who uses it, will have maximum mobility. Basically, your Black Leather armor acts like Thief armor, as well as looking it. That Flute set does not, it slows you down, and clanks all through the hallways.
I adore the Black Leather set, personally. My Thief used it through the entire game, and still uses it on NG+. Looks good, doesn't slow me down, and I can be all "Stealth kill!" Whenever I sneak up on someone with a solid backstab. >.>

HI Syra thanks for your reply , i understand now that my char is basicly a sneaker and a backstabber, but i love to go all in on enemies and rush them but i recon i have to be more carefull later on.
I wonder on new game pluss do you have the ability to change ur class ? or is it locked on that class.
Also i got a new armor last night in 1-1. in all black mode, it was at the bottom of the stair area when you walk to the left at the begining i killed that demon there in on blow just swiped with sword and pushed her down the stairs and she died , got some nice souls but at the bottom there was a new armor , brushwood i think it was, i realized that this armor was WAAAY to heavy for me to use as i couldt even run or roll., so i wonder can you use this armor for other classes if i deposit it to that man in Nexus ?
cheers again for reply

Unfortunately, no, you can't share between your builds. The only way to get things from one build to the next is to use someone online to hold it for you and then transfer to the new one. Things spawn at the same location for every game, so really it is a waste to do. If you have another character that could use it, just remember where it and go get it with him or her.

Nope, you can't sell anything. Deposit it with Thomas if you think you might want/need it or just drop it somewhere.

hey, one question (i'm still unable to create a thread, so i will this thread to ask another n00b question..)
i started a temple knight, i'm about lvl30, and i have beaten only beaten the tower knight...
so, i could learn the warding spell if i put some points to int (i have not int for now, because i am adding points to vit, end and str, i don't plan to use magic for now, only melee attacks...) and i wanted to know if the protection that warding gives you, depends or not on your magic power? because if it so, i think that it will be useless for me to have that spell...
thanks and cheers!..

I think warding is a flat amount of protection. Even if it scales with magic it's base power is very impressive so trust me when I say it is useful. Just remember that it takes 2 slots not 1 so you need more than 10 int to use it. Also it won't help defend against all attacks equally, physical damage wise it is a godsend.

From my experience, Warding appears to increase your defense by a set amount, rather than a variable. I could use confirmation on this, but even without touching the magic stat at all, it still made a very noticeable difference.

I'm curious what you guys are wearing for armour sets. I've read on here that after a certain point, you're basically better off ditching the heavy armour, because it dosen't scale; but exactly what is that point, and what armour do you tend to replace it with?
Thanks

This will largely be a character-planning question. For reference, here are my stats at Soul Lvl 29:
Vit = 10
Int = 12
End = 16
Str = 22
Dex = 16
Mag = 13
Faith = 12
Luck = 8
I like going into melee, using a bow for ranged attacks and casting spells to augment myself. What kind of numbers should I be aiming to hit by the end of my first game? Keep in mind that I have no intention of making a hyper-attack build.
As for equipment, I'm really enjoying my Winged Spear (have it at +6 right now and will take the Moon branch), but I'd like to know what some other good options are for someone who likes to get in, quickly poke the enemy, and get out. Also, is parrying effective (and safe) enough in the end-game to warrant taking a light shield instead of a heavy shield? I loved parrying enemies, but it seems a lot safer right now to just soak up the hits with my Purple Flame Shield.

There are around eight Dreglings before you find Miralda. It isn't that she isn't there, you just haven't gotten to her yet. If you need specifics, you wont find her until you enter the building that the execution grounds leads too.

Ty i have 2 more questions.1.) I went in there and made it 2 the bottom got the armor (REALLY REALLY REALLY HEAVY I HAVE TO WALK xD) and there was nothing there but water and if u fell in u died was she sposed to be around there?2.) i have all the stuff to make a lava bow but Ed wont do it is there something i have to do b4 he'll forge magical weapons for me (same for Dozer Axe)

Ed won't make a lava bow until you give him the 2-2 bosses Soul, carry it on your person and hit "Talk" alot with him, maybe leave and re-enter dialogue with him, he'll take it eventually. Thankfully this is the only purpose for this soul to my knowledge, aside from using it for soul points.
If Miralda didn't appear you may have killed her allready or she may have fell into the pit. Do you by chance have the executioners axe or her "Binded" armor set? Sometimes even though she has died she will leave these items behind.
Allthough I myself had an issue with her not appearing in PWWT, I had allready killed her BP form in PBWT but that didn't use to be related. I can't confirm if it magically changed.

I've killed both her PWWT self, and her BP self on the same game before, so I don't believe that changed. They each drop different items, so it wouldn't make sense to change it.
If you didn't find her, but got to the Brushwood set, that's somewhat odd. You're sure you've never killed her before? Usually she jumps you the moment you walk in the door. As an alternative, it may be possible that the door stays open forever, so long as you've obtained PWWT or PBWT. I haven't confirmed this, but I know certain areas do. So, it could mean your WT changed, and she'll return to her usual spot if you return it to the proper level.

No the door does not stay open, it will close. Meanwhile it is possible for her to fall off the ledge inside and you just not notice. She did that one me once. Sadly this resulted in her falling in the section with no bottom and her drop was obviously not retrievable.

I have a question regarding the Blueblood sword. I do know that it scales with Luck and I also know that there is a point at which stacking Luck for the bonus isn't worth it. So how high does your luck really need to be to get the most of out a Blueblood sword?

I don't think this is so newbie, but instead of making a new thread....
1) Light Weapon spell....does it work....? Equip catalyst in left hand, weapon in right. Cast. Make stupid "glance at useless" stick move. Repeat. Nothing happens. I tried it with a different weapon in case my current one is not eligible for some reason...hope I didn't waste the Penetrator soul on something borken.
2) While moving through the area to the right from the big stairs (1-3) after the dogs, I was kicking some assassin's asses in, and then at a point I had my +3 sticky long bow equipped in my left hand, the catalyst in the right, and suddenly it looked like I had a red pony tail. there was this red lick of flame coming out of the back of my head. Haven't seen it before or since. This may have been tied to the PBWT... WTH?
Balfor
11-03-2009, 09:51 AM
1. yes it works. it will not work on ranged weapons, nor will it work on weapons that do magic or fire damage. i normally use it with a spear or a polearm as those are the melee weapons i prefer to use. though lately i have been using curse weapon instead for pvp reasons(go go 1shot kill on backstabs to blues). light weapon also scales with your magic stat, so if you have a high magic stat, it will do far more for you than cursed weapon will.
2. did you have ring of avarice equipped?
CoachP9
11-03-2009, 09:53 AM
Yes I probably did, but the fire did not appear with other combos of items...probably because they had other visible effects (my flamskfjsdfljs whatever, weapon, which I cannot remember the name of, has bleeding effect, and I have the adjudicators shield usually)
Balfor

i normally notice that flame only when i have the ring of avarice on, but there are certain combinations of items that seem to generate it as well.

Karkarov, I have had that door stay open for me. I got the Bushwood set long after killing Miralda and I'm positive my world wasn't in PB or PW at the time I grabbed it.

So I picked up this game last week and I must say I am loving it. I have tried Knight/Hunter/Royalty but I have some questions.
My 1st guy was a Knight and I enjoyed the armor, melee, and shield but range was a pain sometimes. So I decided lets try Royalty, soul arrow made things waaaay to easy for the start. It was fun being able to melee but I didn't like the melee of Royalty and armor. So I tried Hunter last night and I think this is what I am going to stick with but I always find myself wishing I had the armor of my Knight. So this leads to my questions:
Is is possible to level a specific stat to wear the heavier armors? As a Melee what spells do you find that you normally purchase? Any other class you think i should look into? If I look to go Melee heavy, what stats other besides STR/VIT should I focus on?
I know what I said before sounds like I want it all but I really do enjoy those classes I have tried and my complains are just minor. Almost forgot, what is the best way to take out the guys in 2-1? It seems to take forever to kill stuff as melee.
Balfor
11-03-2009, 02:00 PM
as a melee(especially one that wants to use heavy armor) you want STR, VIT, END, DEX first and foremost. STR and DEX help with your damage, VIT is your hp, END gives you more stamina. also, one of those stats effect how much weight you can carry on you(inventory) another effects how much weight you can equip, and another lets you use the bigger weapons/shields effectively.
Deathshero
11-03-2009, 02:14 PM
So once I get more souls and level up those stats, I will be able to wear the armor I want at some point. That's good to know :D Thanks for the input on that.

any character can wear any armor, use any weapon, and learn/cast any magic in the game. you just have to spec your stats correctly for whatever you want to use.

ANOTHER question. What makes my strength vary so much in between leveling up? Why I ask, why does it do that? I noticed it while upgrading my stats with the Maiden.. One time it's 400, the next time I go, my strength is something like 244. I'm guessing perhaps CT has something to do with it..but whatever I'm doing I'm affecting my strength in HUGE numbers. This also seems to affect the amount of damage each weapon does...

Um...it's not your Strength that is changing. Considering the nature of your question, I'm going to take a guess, and assume you're referring to your HP. I can think of nothing else which would change so drastically from the Maiden's Stat Upgrade screen. If this is, in fact, accurate, you'll notice the change when upgrading your Vitality. When you upgrade your Vitality, it shows the max HP you'll receive in your current state. So if you're in Soul Form, it will be notably lower than if you're in Body Form.
Other than that, I'm at a loss. A more accurate term for those numbers would help. =X

Ok, I figured it out. Attacking power is affected by what weapon you currently have in use and is displayed under the strength category while kneeling to the Maiden... yay I answered my own question. :)

/sigh Sorry more questions... Started as a new Royalty last night and things are going much better this time around. I was able to get the Purple Flame Shield but can't use it yet. I plan on making him very melee heavy. Since I am new, I have been looking at the different post and wiki to find out about weapons and armors I should be going for but it is still a bit confusing. It seems to be able to use most good melee weapons I need to get my STR to 30 at least right? I like quick attacks that flow (like the Knight when you start) what weapons should I be going for? Also since I have Soul Arrow but plan to focus on melee mainly, should I pick up Enchanted Weapon? Last question, I have finished 1-1 and 2-1, from what I have seen if I want to soul farm, 4-1 would be my best area right now? Again sorry for so many question, getting the hang of this slowly.

Actually this isn't entirely true, there are some armors that are gender specific. It doesn't matter what your stats are, a male of any kind isn't going to be able to wear dull gold armor.
If you are a male character it is best to lock this in the vault as soon as you get it. I often times forget about the armor I pick up and wonder why the heck my item burden is so high then realize I am carrying around useless crap.
Can you kill the red dragon with magic the same way you do with arrows?
You can kill the dragon with magic, probably in less time then with the bow.
Just find a good place on the first tower in 1-2, time your shots and dont try to use lock-on.
I did it depleting my manapool maybe 4,5 times. So bring alot of MP-flasks.

18. Enter the now-crushed heart tower and go right and proceed down the stairs outside to reach this point, being careful of the new Face Bugs. I suggest taking a counter-clockwise path through this inner area. This puts you behind a number of the Face Bugs inside. For your troubles you get a Ring of Avarice(+20% soul from defeated enemies) a Gold Mask(trade for a Colorless Demon Soul in 4-1), an Epee Rapier(does physical and fire damage, and can be used with a shield raised), and some Souls and Old Spice and a Stone of Ephemeral Eyes. When done, return to the previous area and climb the tower again. <-------------- is this correct? if im going into the heart tower an go right its a dead end if go left an up its to the boss, so am i going somewhere wrong. thanks in advance

From the entrance to the central tower, take a right and smash the pots until you return back outside, turn immediately to your right again, and smash the pots there. You'll find the stairs it's referring too.

Here's my newbie question: I completed 1-1 and 1-2, plus killed the red dragon so it won't be harrassing me any more :). I am using a female wanderer dex based build, I think my soul level is around 15 now. Armed currently with spiked shield +1, falchion +5, compound bow +5, and a winged spear that I'm going to work on. I also got Soul Arrow which proved very useful in killing the red eye knight in 1-1. I did not however try Doran yet (I rescued Ostrava and have the key though).
My question is, where's the best level to go to next? Should I attempt Doran? Should I gather some loot at the dragon's roost in 1-1, since I've killed the red one?

The great part about this game is you can do it any order you like. I do recommend waiting to go into valley of defilement as you'll need poison and plague resistances. If you do 2-1 you can open up the area to Ed the blacksmith and he can do a lot more upgrades than the blacksmith in the nexus. You may consider simply looking at a wiki to see if there's any interesting gear to find but really just have fun in all the worlds, typically the x-1 levels are easiest so you may want to do the first part of every world. For 3-1 there's a lot of magic enemies, world 2 has a lot of fire enemies. Since it's your first char all I can really suggest is get out there and don't be afraid! I just beat my first play through, took my sweet ass time to collect stuff and it was so worthwhile. This game takes a good while to master and understand all the elements like world tendancies.

Thanks for the newbie thread.
1. Why can't I see block values for shields? The wiki lists them, but I don't see those numbers in game. What I do see appear to be shield slam values.
2. Are "named" weapons always better than generic weapons that have been upgraded? I'm trying to decide if it's worth upgrading a very "early" weapon, such as the short sword, or if I should upgrade only "named" weapons.

Ah good topic, wish I saw it earlier. Anyway, I need to ask a question about trophies to which I didn't find answer so far.
Let's say I want to get the sage/saint's/rogue's/soldier's trophy, do I have to get all the needed stuff with one char or does it work even if I get half the stuff with one char and the other half with another char? (for example, if I'm missing 5 weapons with one char to get the trophy, will I get it if I get those 5 weapons with another char, thus "holding" them? Or it doesn't count this way?)
So does it count per account or per character?
thanks :)
P.S. is it possible to delete own messages on this forum? The edit button says edit/delete, but I can't find the delete function

Hah, I usually do up to tower knight, then up to dragon god, then 1-3, then 4-1, 4-2, 4-3, then False King.
After that it's a toss up between World 3 and World 5, since I hate them equally and condemn them both to hell.
i could not save him in 1-1 so that means despite getting the masoleum key, i still cannot get access to yuri the witch and all her killer spells, right?
i am a level 32 royal as i could not put the game down and my other friends say i should start over. PLEASE ADVISE!

No it doesn't work that way. You have to have every relevant item or spell learned or in that characters inventory/bank to get the trophy. Yes this means after making North Regalia you have go through the trouble to get a second demonbrandt and soulbrandt. To get every trophy from one character only requires something like 4 playthroughs minimum. The only one you can do in one playthrough without locking yourself out of the others is the Rogue's trophy. The Soldier's trophy as hinted at requires a bear minimum of two playthroughs and doing that will lock you out of at least one of the magic based ones.

Being a Mage Knight will mean you will rely on a lot on your magic. Having heavy armor will not decrease the fact that vitality will be low. I suggest you get "The Talisman" that can do both spells and miracles. I really don't understand why they refuse to name it for this is not the no spoilers board and the name of it really won't help in finding it. But, I won't name it because it seems no one cares. P.S.

30% out of current max hp, so if you have 100hp in body form, you need 30hp, if you have 50hp in soul form then you need 30% out of 50. I've been trying it yesterday.
Try makoto, but that's very slow, or cursed weapon spell which is faster or you can try to swamps in 5-2 or 5-3.

That's false. I had the northern regalia and I fought the old king only once before getting the soldier's trophy. EDIT: What I mean is that (1) I only fought old king doran in my second playthrough. (2) I forged the northern regalia in the second playthrough. (3) I did not have a single copy of the demonbrandt when I got the soldier's trophy.

Hmm it is supposed to be required last I checked. Yeah my list says you have to have it to get the soldier's trophy. Maybe it does count it if you had it and lost in this case since you technically still have it in the form of north regalia.

Yeah, I thought I'd have to fight Doran twice, but I didn't. I killed Ostrava in the second playthrough to get the key, but in the subsequent playthroughs I tried to finish 1-1 asap and completely ignored the sidequest.

From what I read you only need to hold a weapon once with a character to make it count for the trophy, so if I understand it, if you had soulbrandt and demonbrandt then forged them to make regalia (or other weapons and then lost them) and you don't get them second time it should still count, no?
Ostrava disappeared on me this time in NG+ so I'll be missing demonbrandt this time (I have regalia from NG), so I'll see if I get the trophy after getting the other 2 weapons I'm missing.

Well the official guide (LE) confirms this (should be on the page where they summ up which weapons/armor you need for Soldier trophy), Northern Regalia counts for both Demon-Soulbrandt, so you WILL get the Soldier trophy even when missing one or both of the 2 swords in a NG+*.

It takes 18 STR to wield Steel Shield properly.
Those stats don't look like a bad plan. You'll be able to use bows decently and deal a ton of damage with Blessed weapons. You might want more INT if you plan on using Talisman of the Beast and throwing spells around in addition to miracles.

I have a question about Mephistopheles and her assassinations. I read on the wiki that if I kill for example Ostrava before getting the quest from Meph, she'll skip Ostrava and move to the next person in the list.
I'd like to know if I get the reward even then or if it only by killing the target AFTER she gave me the mission.

I've been farming Suckerstone from the slugs in 4-2, if you go to the Old Hero's Archstone it's a very short run to their cave. They drop shards, chunks and pures and you'll get tons of Sticky White Stuff while trying to get all the chunks you need.

I believe how it works is that if the target is killed, either by you or Yurt, before you get the actual mission to specifically kill that target, then she will just skip over that one in her list and move on to the next living target.
Hi guys, I'd like some opinions on my dexterity build. Anything is appreciated. :D
My dude's stats are as follows (I'm away from my PS3 atm, so I'm writing this from memory):
Vit: 24
Int: 14
End: 24
Str: 22
Dex: 50
Magic: 9
Faith: 8
Luck: 13
Something like that. Currently I'm planning on using a Sharp Uchi +5 as it is S in Dex and can be enchanted, which I like. I'm thinking if I should put extra points on magic as Light Weapon boosts damage based on your magic stat. (the life drain from Curse Weapon put me off, and Enchant Weapon doesn't even boost my damage that much)
But since I want to use this character for some PvP also, and I've heard from people that PvP requires points in Vit and End, I'm not sure if I should put it in magic. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. :D

Try it out and see how it works for you! :) If you have 10 faith and 15 intelligence, you can cast second chance/one time revival which is useful in pvp. EDIT: Thanks Fefe for pointing out that it should be 16 faith.
Thanks for the swift response, but doesn't Second Chance require 2 miracle slots? From the Wikisouls site you get 2 slots from 16 Faith, and since I'm trying to keep my soul level within 80-100 (I see a lot of coop play in this range) I'd like to utilize my stat points as efficiently as possible.
Is there a formula on calculating how much damage is added from casting Light Weapon? If so, maybe I can find out if it's worth investing.points in magic and how much I should put in.
...God I feel like a nerd for writing that sentence. :p

You're right about 16 faith being required. That does seem too much in your case! Yeah, I wish I knew the exact formulas and algorithms for everything in this game. For example, there is a rumor that luck 8 gave better drops in the asian version. The number 8 is lucky in Japanese culture. :)
HijiriOni

The luck thing only increases your likelihood of getting a drop...unfortunately it does nothing for how good the drop is. I killed about 100 worms farming for chunks, got 18, 1 pure, and a good 40 shards that I tossed. More luck just means I woulda tossed more shards. All on 10 luck. I've heard nothing good about drop rates from people with 20-40 luck.
Back on the demonbrandt and NR...if the NR was the last thing you needed for soldiers it might have registered you as having them both in the time frame you crafted it.
I don't know the formula for Light Weapon, but I have done some testing. Talisman of Beasts with 18 intelligance and 20 faith (it doesn't impact the spell but I believe it adds to the ToB, can't say for sure) resulted in a constant +158 attack, which is smashingly good on weapons like swords and daggers.

^ I believe the ticks and mosquitoes in world 5 drop them. I got more marrows from the ticks in 5-1 so I would farm from them.
I got a pure marrowstone from the corpse in 5-3 so you shouldn't have to farm for a pure. Hope this helps.

Can you kill the red dragon with magic the same way you do with arrows?
No you will need a bow. When I say bow I also mean a BOW not a crossbow.
I played as a royal, however I will mention class in this game means squat after 1-1. My character is a generalist he has no particular overpowering skill. I do admit my highest stats are faith and intelligence though by a decent margin. My only limitation is that there are certain very high str weapons I can't use effectively like the great sword but I meet the requirements for almost every weapon and most of the shields.
Armor wise until just this morning I used the dark leather set with a silver coronet, now I am using the same thing only with the Gloom breastplate. Beyond that I won't discuss gear etc. You never know who you might end up fighting.
Gah, what?! Need a bow?! Lies! I kill the red dragon with soul ray all the time. And the blue dragon.

thanks for the help, Fefe! i did get that pure, but it's just frustrating to kill ticks and mosquitoes for shards/chunks. they're not in very convenient places and seem have a mediocre drop rate. plus i'd like to avoid fighting giants if at all possible.

I agree, you just need to hit the red dragon a few times with soul ray, then you get the hang of it and can do it in about 5 mins, and it costs a lot less than using arrows. (not that it matters after SL 30 because they are so cheap anyways;))

It is your equip weight burden that determines this. If you equip burden is say 50 lbs. and you equip 25 or more pounds your movement is slowed. It is possible to exceed your burden also but you move like a dead turtle :/ . The stat that directly effects it is Endurance, it goes up by one for every point you have. Also there is a ring you can find that increases it by a percentage amount based on your current total.

For 100 it is an exact +/-20, for 50 it's +/-15
The formula goes like this
(Current SL/10)+10=Range
So 712 has a max invite range of +/-81
200 has +/-30
This range also determines who can invade your games, accept that only someone lower then your current soul level may invade you.

First you have to go to inventory (start->2nd icon from left), you'll see 8 bigger windows on left (4 on top, 4 underneath them), then 5 smaller on right and 4 smaller underneath those 5.
->You have to go to one of those big 4 windows on the left on top (first 2 from left are for left hand, the other 2 are for right hand)
->hit X button
->new window will open and you can choose a weapon/catalyst/shield
->pick the catalyst
->hit X button again and you should see it displayed in one of those 4 windows
->close the inventory and then with 'left' or 'right' d-pad (left button for left hand, right for right hand) you can cycle through your selected weapons
'up' on the d-pad cycles through spells (make sure you have a spell chosen) and 'down' cycles through items, after you have chosen a spell and have your catalyst in your hand and enough mana, just hi L1/R1 and you can cast
So basically you can have only 2 weapons in each hand even if you have 20 in your inventory
Isn't it written in the manual? Or didn't you look into it? :)

second, if you're in NG and a friend who's within summoning level range of you is in NG+, can you summon him? basically, can people who are in different game cycles play together or invade each other?

I don't think CT affects drops in general, as far as I know only PBWT (raises quality drop %) affects the quality of drops.
I tried to coop while being in NG+ with a guy that was in NG our level range was lower than 10 and he didn't see my blue soulsign so I don't think it's possible to co-op while being in different game cycles.

If your within SL range you may co-op with people in NG+ when your in NG I've done it several times. I over-leveled for NG (135 when I cleared it) my friends were allready at NG+ fighting Maneater at 125ish, helped them do it.
Also the rule isn't within 10 it's within 1/10th your SL rounded down +10. Rize I can only suspect his soul sign didn't appear because either A: You'd Killed the Boss in the area you we're trying to summon or B: Your level gap is to far apart or C: You we're in Soul Form or D: Your Friend had one of the previous issues.
CT doesn't affect much at all, just 2 quests, and I think some small stat changes, but not drop quality/quantity.

hey guys, i got a question, i cant get to the area to my left on the bridge of 1-1. there seems to be all kind of treasure there but there is a gate that i dont have the key or a way to get there. also how do i get in the doors past the red knight in 1-1? also i accidently hit the scraggly merchant in the lava area in 2-2, now he wants to kill me! so i got pissed and killed him. am i screwed or what? thanks everyone, happy holidays

The door past the red knight requires a key, you obtain the key from killing an NPC, or rescueing an npc about 4x once per chapter up to 1-4.
The door to the left of the bridge only opens in PBWT/PWWT, which means it should be open now as we are currently in the PWWT event, load your game a few times if it doesn't open.
Killing that merchant does little to hurt you, he doesn't sell anything special. He just makes it easier to get hardstone and sharpstone but those are easy enough to get.

So I got the soul from Adjudicator and I was thinking if I had to use it for Meat Cleaver or Slow Regeneration.
Now, I chose Meat Cleaver but I see I can still get Slow Regeneration at Urbain? Is this a glitch? Does this mean that once you get a Demons soul you can get like both LSoS and One Time Revival?

Instead of asking, did you try to learn Slow regeneration from Urbain? Cause if you'd try it, you'd see that without the soul he won't teach you. ;)
It's written right there, you need that soul to learn it. It's available cause you've met requirements for it to appear, that doesn't mean you can learn it without the soul.

I have two total newb questions...sorry in advance.
1. How do you know what area you are in? People talk about being in 1-1 or 1-2, I killed what I think is the first boss or mini boss does that mean I'm in 1-2 or is there an obvious way to tell the difference.
2. How do I level. I see that I'm as soul level nine but when do I start putting points into stam or magic? And how do I do that I can't figure it out...thank you

For level numbering, the first digit refers to the world and the second digit is for the level. Boletarian is world 1 and 1-1 is the first level, the remaining levels are in order. Stonefang is world 2, Latria is world 3, Shrine of Storms is world 4 and Valley of Defilement is world 5.
For leveling, after beating 1-1 you go back to the Nexus and talk to the Maiden in Black, she will send you to talk to the Monumental. Once you have done this go talk to here again, you level up through her.

Thank you for your answers...It's weird in a game where you can't save how you second guess everything...I was afraid to talk to her about "searching for souls" or whatever it is because I wasn't sure what would happen. In most games you just save and if you do the wrong thing you reload. I love how this game forces you to make decisions.
I am curious about what happens if you tell the monumental that you do not have the strength to take on the mission. If I could only save and go back...

Ok cool thanks I glad I asked. And is that on any message left or is it just on that one?
Also What starting class did is everyone playing and why?
I picked Royality mainly because it starts out at lvl 1. Then the secondardy reason is the ring you get, I use a mix of melee and magic. I am a battle mage or battle druid depending on how you look at it.
Another question on stuff like heal and recall magics do they all take Tailsmans? Because as a royality I only start with the silver wand. And dont want to waste souls on that stuff until I get the tailsman of gods or what ever I can get first.
Thank you for answering my questions and taking time to read this thread.
2. I also have a Thief and Temple Knight. >.> Odd how that works, haha. Anyway, I started with Thief because, well, I wanted to be a Thief. Nimble, swift, but relatively fragile. I'm not sure if I'd call them "hard mode," but rather "learn your timing" mode. Parrying, and back attacks are what make daggers work, as their normal strikes are nothing all too fancy, but their critical hits will out perform weapons twice as powerful easily. If anything, the hardest part about starting as a Thief, is dealing with those Blue Eyed Knights in 1-1 using a dagger. If you can't parry them, or get a couple of back attacks, the fight will quickly become very challenging. Currently my Thief is level 52, primarily using an Uchigatana, Compound Longbow, and Secret Dagger.
The Temple Knight I made for one reason, and one reason only. The Great Sword. They will be built entirely to use that weapon, and use it well. >.> My Temple Knight is level 10 at the moment, as I just made her. It's just that, for whatever reason, I find The Great Sword completely awesome, but it doesn't suit my Thief at all, so I made a new, armored character to be all "Rawr Hulk SMASH" with it, haha!
3. Sferzar already answered this mostly, but just to add: There is one Talisman that can use both magic, and miracles. It's nice to have if you plan on using both spell types regularly, but it can take a bit of work to obtain. I'll spare you the spoilers on it though.
Completely random, and unrelated question: Did you play FFXI on the Carbuncle Server by any chance?(I realize the name isn't that uncommon, I just thought I'd ask.)
I played on carbuncle! my name was Vacht, I was a thief in fullysicmate. Rufio was the leader of that guild.
I am a thief in this game as well. im only level 25... but im starting to think i shouldve started a diff class. I mean what do thieves get that other classes dont get? the thiefs ring?

How you answer the Monumental affects whether or not you can get the Friend's ring in this play through.

I've been playing for a while (still need to finish 1-4, 5-2 and 5-3 plus some sub-quests like killing the dragons and the old king), and gotten strangely addicted (didn't expect that, I'm not that kind of player usually), but there are a few things I'm not certain of. Sorry if I missed the answers earlier, I mostly skimmed through this thread. :)
1) If you die as a Blue phantom helper, do you keep your souls? Or do you have to reach the bloodstain in your own world to retrieve them or something?
2) If you die as an invading Black phantom, do you lose all the souls you were carrying? Again, are they retrievable through a bloodstain?
3) I defeated quite a few invading Black phantoms (so far only two managed to killed me, which surprises me a little since I'm not such a good player and have had zero online playing experience before), and got a varying amount of souls (thanks guys!) as a result. Does that amount of souls correspond to what the invader was carrying at the time, or is it calculated based on his level or something like that?
4) If invading as a black phantom, is the PvP matching random (based on similar levels of course), or can the invader choose who s/he's invading?
5) Other than the bag-carrying miners, crystal lizards (which have limited respawns) and the spider boss, is there any way to obtain any spiderstone ore? Maybe I'm unlucky but I don't believe I've had any enemy randomly dropping of spiderstone. (I get cloudstone drops all the time from the flying stingrays in world 4, for instance.)
6) Last question! On world 3-3, I was in soul form and got the "Black phantom XX has invaded" message, and I was quite baffled. I read somewhere, after the fact, that it was normal, that the boss summons a Black phantom to fight against you, so that explains it. Only, I stupidly died at the hands of the black phantom illithid-like monster in the stairs on my way to the boss. I respawned, got to the boss, and fought some black phantom guy fighting with claws. He was reaaally easy. Did I just get a crummy player, or did my dying kick out the initial invader and I just fought an AI after that?
Sorry for all the questions.
Thanks. :)

Durr, I forgot to ask a question, the one that baffles me the most really. It's a bit complicated so bear with me...
I got the game for Christmas, so while I didn't know it at the time, I was in PWWT because of the Winter Solstice Event. My first time playing, I went to the door west of the starting point in 1-1, where Executioner Miralda normally hangs out. I got warnings on the ground saying beware of the formidable foe ahead, but I decided to try anyway. And lo and behold, I got ambushed... by a big armoured knight. I don't remember the details exactly, I vaguely recall him having the dark blue armour and red eyes (like the one at the end of that corridor close to where the trebuchets are), but my boyfriend remembers him having a "dark golden" armour? Maybe my memory is conflating him with the other blue- and red-eyed knights, but he looked like them. I also believe he was wielding a lance or a halberd (my boyfriend recalls a halberd or a big axe, too). Anyway, needless to say he kicked my ass. I died, went back there to try just once again while being more careful, but still died, so I gave up on that for now.
So I decided to go back there later. A few days later (after the Winter Solstice PWWT event had expired), after having beaten a boss or two and having leveled up, obtained better equipment and upgraded some weapons, I decided to try my luck again against that mysterious knight. Only, there was no one ambushing me in that room. I went inside, went down to pick the Brushwood armour set (of course at the time I didn't know that overburdened items would disappear after leaving the world, so I lost the armour and gauntlets, grr... oh well, too heavy for me to use anyway) and colourless demon soul. There was no one there.
I was baffled, so I checked online and everywhere it talks about Executioner Miralda appearing in PWWT or PBWT (and the door staying unlocked even after WT changes). I figured, that badass knight must have been the executioner... only, during the loading screens I sometimes saw Miralda's artwork and it didn't look a bit like the knight I fought. I thought, maybe she had a bodyguard or something. :D
So after beating the Tower Knight and then Penetrator, I got PWWT (or so I thought, since the world flashed bright white) and returned to that place. Sure enough, when I entered the room, I heard a woman's voice, giggling and taunting me and calling me a traitor to the king. I recognized the enemy's model from the loading screen artwork, so it was definitely Miralda, and looked nothing like the knight I had fought. I killed her easily enough at my level, got her Binded armour set.
So basically my question is... who the hell was that knight and is there any way I can get him to appear again? Was he a special Winter Solstice Event-only enemy? I couldn't find any reference to him. Did anyone else ever see an armoured knight there? Note that while Miralda spoke when I entered the room, nobody spoke the first time I entered the door. I just got immediately ambushed as soon as I entered, and the enemy followed me out of the building when I tried to run away at some point (didn't have the Thief's Ring yet).

Are you sure it was a knight and not Executioner Miralda? Cause as far as i know, she should be the only one in that description you made with a "Huge Axe".

I have never heard of that...ever. o.o
It wasn't a special enemy for the event, either, as that was just a PWWT event, nothing more. I even fought Miralda myself during the span of the event, and sure enough, it was her and her axe. That is really, really bizarre, and I honestly have no explanation to offer you other than "some kind of glitch?"
That or newbie hallucinations. I know I had a few of those in my time. XD

Well, both my boyfriend and I recall a big armoured knight with a long halberd-like weapon and not a rather petite woman (well, she's small compared to the big knights I mean) with a bag over her head, and we both recall that there was no voice at all (and yes I'm always playing with sound on :P).
Also, when I met Miralda, I first heard her voice right at the threshold of the the room, but she didn't immediately attack. I slowly crept in the room, saw her standing in the right corner from the door for a few seconds before she actually decided to come attack me. The knight I remember, however, simply lunged at me as soon as I crossed the threshold, no taunts or warnings or anything.
Edit: that -may- have been due to me wearing the Thief's Ring, which I wasn't the first time around. But it still doesn't explain the voice discrepancy.
So yeah, I'm baffled. If my (and my boyriend's!) memory is completely screwy and I'm somehow conflating the red-eyed knight from that other corridor with Executioner Miralda (both were the "though enemies in 1-1 that n00bs should tackle on later" though they have little else in common), I could almost accept that... but when I heard her voice, I was actually startled, it was completely unfamiliar and unexpected, no déjà vu feeling or anything. Go figure!

The voice can be a little buggy. I believe it has the tendency to be interrupted by other sound effects and no work properly at times. Usually it does go off, but every now and then I run into her with just the subtitles, no actual talking.

I just started playing this game a few days ago. I rolled a thief, from which I understand, is a bad idea for noobs but meh I like it.
My question is, the red eyed knight with the super long pike in 1-1, whats a solid way to farm him without havin to go toe to toe with him?
I hope I'm not out of line by askin this. If questions about farming are taboo, my apologies in advance.

Throw something at him to aggro him, then run far back with thief ring to lose the aggro. Run back and back stab him while he's walking back to spawn point. Rinse and repeat.

Thanks very much for a quick response. I'll give that a shot.
I read somewhere that you can kite him to the wooden steps in the opposite direction of him & get him to suicide himself off. Ive tried that a few times but he justs smashes the 2 barrels & chases me down the steps. Is there a certain sweet spot to stand in there?
Also, I followed some advice I read in getting a decent weapon to run around with. I got the Killj(?) out of 4-1, I believe. Is this a weapon I should focus on upgrading or is there a better one out there just as easily attainable?
I currently have a spiked shield & a compound short bow as well. Same question as with the Killj. Upgrade or find something better?

You are way better off learning how to go toe to toe with the red eye in 1-1 and winning. Trust me you will be meeting more like him later on in much greater numbers so the practice will help. Besides only posers use those sissy tactics Cyon is talking about. I have beaten the guy at SL 1 without using any magic or kiting. It is fun I tell you FUN!!!! *crazy look in the eye*
Unless your talking about old king anyway that guy is so cheesy he deserves it. It makes a great challenge to come back later and try to beat him the old fashioned way though.
Thanks very much for a quick response. I'll give that a shot.

First of all dont use thiefs ring if your going for kite-tactic.
The sweet spot is around the 3d "bar" in the staircase "handle"...if u got that im amazed...
Anyways when hes coming down the stairs, face him and throw something at him to make him angry with you. He will then charge you instead of the barrels and fall to his death.
If you fail and he chases you down the stairs, just run to the pit in the place next to the staircase (with a Xbowman and 2 dreglings). From there just annoy him from the opposite side of the pit and he will fall. You wont get his drops this way but thats hardly an issue.

I know you can't communicate in-game other than the emotes (bowing, etc), but you can communicate by XMB. And I've seen posts on this forum mentioning messaging another player. How does that work exactly?
You just press the PS button to bring up the XMB, then go to Players Met, find the player who summoned you (or whom you summoned), and then create a message? Does that message then pop up on their sceen while they're playing? What about the XMB chat function? Do you just get a little chat window overlaying part of your screen?
I would test this out but I don't have anyone to test with. Message me if you want to screw around with this - I think my SL is currently in the upper 70s.

With my royal, she had a whole dialogue & was laughin like hell even as I beat her senseless. Her appearance looked to be the same however as I recall.

ok i to have a question about something..
ok i recently purchased demon's souls about a week ago, and all the archstones are pure white because of Atlus.'s christmas thing. I thought that was just for x-mas?..
Also in the beginning of 1-1 how come that gate in the very beginning is closed?? pure black maybe?, but i thought you could do miralda in pure white, and that's the way she's located..
Also, i was doing my first tendency event yesterday,(it was scirvir in 2-2). And i finally got to pure black. I went all the way down to where he's suppose to be, and the was nothing in the tunnel.. just 2 crystal geckos..:(

It's really hard to tell the difference between mostly white and pure white just from looking at the archstones. The only real way to tell is by checking for a WT event. My advice: go offline and beat one more boss. Be sure to play in soul form to make sure you don't die in body form somehow on accident. After you finish whatever WT event you want to do, then you can go back online. Otherwise you risk moving toward neutral again.
Crazee_Persona

yeah stonefang is already back at what looks like neutral..
I just gave up on that character.. or should I just say oh well and try to finish the playthrough?
Also, where do I get the guy the sells hard arrows in the nexus, he wasn't in 2-2 buy the vendor guy so Idk where he is.
Morrigan Stark

You can always try the tendency events on NG+. None of them are essential, really.
Area "hard" arrows the same as "heavy" arrows? Patches sells them. After you talked to him in 2-2 he hangs out in the Nexus (Latria archstone), and you'll see him again in 4-2. If you don't kill him, he'll return to the Nexus again and hang out around the Latria archstone for the rest of the game.

Whenever I start a new game (not +)first thing I do after 1-1 is go straight to 4-1. You don't have to complete it but theres a few good weapons and equipment there which will really help you progress through at a low level.
You can also try farming then red eye knight in 1-1 and when you unlock it the reaper in 4-2 is easy farming. Lvl up a bit then attempt wherver you want next.

4-1 is the Skeleton world right?
I peeped in there for a second and picked up something .. can't rememebr what now...
and the *NG++* is "New Game" and how ever many +'s is the Number right?
I seen a lot of ++++++ on some post's!
Thanks for the head's up!

When you beat the game it starts over again, except the enemies are harder. Hence, New Game+. Beat it again, it's New Game ++. Pretty straightforward.

Got the game a few days ago and loving it but have a few quick questions i have a royal sl1 managed to find the bastard sword which i cant use due to not high enuff stats and the purple flame shield.Should i still use the bastard sword instead of my rapier as it does higher dmg or should i stick to my rapier. Also the same with the purple flame shield or stick to my buckler.I am outside the phlanx wondering the best way to try to kill it.Any helpful info be appreciated.

Unmless you looking for a Complete Walthru Guide(???)
Do a couple opf Runs around the Area and then go back to the Nexus to Spawn all the enemys.
Do some soul Farming to Level up Strength so you CAN hold that Purple Shield,

Don't ever use gear you don't meet the stats to use unless it is a weapon that you CAN meet the stat requirement for when you two hand it. Then you just never use it except for two handing it. Shields you should never use if you don't meet the stats, they work and all but you take huge penalties to how much stamina it takes to block something which means you will actually get fewer blocks out of it before you get your guard broken. At sl 1 getting your guard broken also typically means you are about one second away from dieing.

I am a total noob, but I am trying to get the hang of this game. Currently I am playing a knight character, and my soullevel is about 11.
I am having some major trouble defeating the Tower Knight. What soullevel and approximate stats would you guys recommend for beating ths guy in melee?

first and most important: get naked :p.
Seriously: get off your gear until you are below 50% of your equip burden. (its 50% -0.1 lbs actually). Also invest your 3 Shards of Hardstone you found in 1-1 to upgrade the sword to +1. Always 2hand your weapon versus the Towerknight. The shield will not do anything but the damage output increases.

You can block his lance attack with a shield, though. I don't know if I'd say that it's worth it, but it's possible. But otherwise, I agree - armor won't do you any good, the Tower Knight's weakness is that he's slow, so use that to your advantage. Generally, you just need to stay behind him and chip away at his heels until he falls over, then attack his head - and make sure when he falls that he doesn't land on top of you. What's worked best for me is to wait for the pause between two of his attacks, then pretty much charge right at him and run past his right foot. Usually if you try to get behind him by running around him, he'll turn.

The stats are from when a game is completed.
When you complete a playthrough with a char, your stats for that char will show up on one of the 4 spots just to the right of the entrance

Hey all, a newbie with newbie questions here, hope you'll be able to answer them.
My playing style is pretty defensive and I love playing around with a spear + large shield, and if needed, a bow.
I am thinking about using the Purple Flame Shield and upgrade my Winged Spear with +Sharp.
- Is this a good idea? Will it work well when I get near end game?
- Should I just cap my STR at 22 and then leave that stat alone? (for meeting the shield req)
- Should I keep upping my DEX, or is there a cap after which the value of DEX will decrease with my spear and bow?
- What are my other important stats? I guess the only ones are Vitality and Endurance? Is there a cap on those stats? Should I focus mainly on my dex and occasionally put a point in my side stats?
Thanks in advance, I hope I am not asking any stupid questions, but I'd like to not waste my points in useless things.

sounds fine. get ur PFS to +10.
sharp winged spear +5
50 DEX cap
22 STR cap
40 END cap
15 INT (14 if you use silver coronet)
10 MAG cap (to learn warding)
16 FAITH cap (for second chance)
rest into VIT
You can choose between Warding and Second Chance but warding in most cases is more useful in PvE.

You need to get the red host demons soul from the Flame Lurker again an give it to him. Every new game you need to do this before he will do special upgrades.

The only sequence issue you have to follow is to complete one world of 2, 3, 4 or 5 before you can move on to 1-3. Other than that it is open for you to do as you wish.

Hey guys, big noob again here.
Yesterdaynight I was in world 2-2 and decided that I was awesome enough to take on the Flamelurker without properly preparing. Well here are some of my mistakes..
- I went in unprepared, as a melee.
- I didn't have any sticky white stuff or such.
- I didn't have any arrows (or magic for that matter).
- I carried a whopping 20-30k souls with me (which for me, is A LOT).
That last part is what worries me a lot, and I got a few questions about it.
1) How long will my bloodstain be at Flamelurker? Will it dissappear over time?
2) Am I able to go back to the Nexus without my bloodstain dissappearing?
3) Can I also enter other worlds to farm a bit without my bloodstain dissappearing?
Thanks in advance for answering :)

Well you need only 1 answer:
Your bloodstain will only disappear if you die(in your own world*) before getting it where you left.
* If you die while co-op (applies only if you are blue), or invading there is no problem... because you didn't died at your own world.
Backlash
03-08-2010, 08:22 AM
Your bloodstain will say there until you die again, I believe (regardless of where else you go).
FYI, I've never heard of anyone having success against Flamelurker with arrows, but you could give it shot (ha ha). Definitely want sticky white stuff for melee or some offensive magic, though.

03-08-2010, 08:40 AM
I didn't really want to make my character able to cast more then maybe 1/2 defensive spells but I guess I have no other options (no Sticky White Stuff available). Time to farm some souls for a good Offensive spell and a bit of a mana pool.
Thanks for clearing it all up for me guys.
Edit: Ehm, if I get invaded while grinding souls, and then get killed by the invader. I will also lose my bloodstain positioned at the boss, right?

I havent gone black in any of my worlds. Right now im in NG+ and just about done with it. So my question is, right before the ending, do you think its a good idea to now make them black before i finish. Also i guess the only way is kill yourself in body form 5 times to make it black in each world. Also will Mephistopheles show up that late into the game.
Also if you kill Sage Freke and Saint Urbain and followers how do you change magic or Miracles.

You actually do not lose everything, only the current cache of souls you have which is shown in the bottom right corner.
Also, you can be in soul form or body form to go back to the Nexus. Beware though that you are open to invasion if you are in a section of your game where you have not beat the boss AND in body form.

Nope. Hit <start>, go all the way to the left for Options (IIRC) and Quit Game. This is the proper and only way you should quit the game otherwise you chance corrupting your save game file. When you load that profile again, you will start back up right where you left off and none of the MOBs will have respawned.

Before I start what's MOBs ? But if I'm reading this correctly then it's not true whether you save or not when you restart the game you start from the beginning ( only diff if you save then you keep your souls)with all the enemies. Except if you had beaten the level boss (it doesn't reappear till next playthru ). Unless I misread what you were saying.

MOB = wikipedia - Mob (computer gaming) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mob_%28computer_gaming%29)
Lets say you play 1/2 of the way through the level 1-2, then you quit the proper way as described by going to <start> then quite game. You come back to your PS3 in 2 hours and load DS again, then load your character. You start exactly where you left off in level 1-2. You do not have to kill those enemies you already killed to get to where you already are and you are 1/2 of the way through level 1-2.
Now if you decide to go back to the Nexus and want to return to level 1-2, then you do start from the beginning of level 1-2.
Hope that clarified.

There are advantages and disadvantages to being in body form. For someone just starting, I would recommend staying in soul form as much as possible. If you require help, then use a Stone of Ephemeral Eyes to go to body form to summon a Blue Phantom for help in a world section where the boss has not been defeated.
Adv to body form:
Full HP
Able to summon blue phantoms for help
DisAdv to body form:
Open to invasion in sections where the boss has not been defeated.
If you die, that world will slightly shift towards black (not always a bad thing though. PBWT gives better drops but enemies are much harder to defeat)
also it says on the wiki that the binding takes your souls if you return to the nexus, when i returned after the boss fight i still had them?
I am not certain how to answer that. Need better context to the situation.
Anyone know where i can get a strategy guide in uk?
The only hard copy strat guides are sold with Japanese text via Japan or if you can find a used copy of the Official Strategy Guide made by Atlus that came with the Atlus version of Deluxe Edition sold on the first pressing.

The Nexial Binding is an item that can be "used" to go back to the Nexus, at the cost of sacrificing all your collected souls. If you go back to the Nexus normally through the Archstone, the Evacuate miracle or Shards of Archstone, you get to keep your souls.

If you kill the Maiden it won't lower your character tendency or require a NG to reset her there.

I was talking about the evil ending. In the NG i did the good ending. Now im on NG+ and was wondering what it does to the NG++ when i kill her in the end in NG+. What does it change? In Wiki it says: you can then take the evil path to net more souls.
If you do the evil ending, when you start NG++ you'll receive a Red Eye Stone and a Beast Demon's Soul, which you can use up for IIRC 200k souls. Everything else stays the same. (other than the enemies being harder)

Black World Tendency
PROS:
-More frequent and rarer drops from enemies
-More souls gained for killing enemies
-BP NPC appears, who drops great equipment (Pure Black only)
-Primeval Demon appears, which MAY drop a Colorless Demon's Soul
CONS:
-Enemies have higher HP
-You have lower HP
-Black Phantom versions of normal enemies appear, which are actually stronger and have higher HP than normal
It's better to make a world Pure Black after you have killed all the bosses in that world, because after then you'll have access to all the areas. Killing a boss would turn the world tendency whiter anyway. :)
^ And also by achieving PWWT first, you can get those special NPCs to spawn and kill them to change WT significantly. If you don't mind sacrificing your CT, this way you reduce the time spend and the amount of Ephemeral Eyes you use.

The Mephistopheles quest is Character Tendency, not World Tendency, so WT events and how you act on them will not disrupt anything to do with the Mephistopheles quest except maybe get you closer to having Mephistopheles appear based upon who you kill.
What he is referring to though is if you kill say PWWT Scirvir, both WT and CT are affected.
All of the NPC's are listed on the Tendency page:

First character here, and just got the Compound Long Bow which unless I'm mistaken I should be able to weild 2 handed as a temple knight with default 14 STR and 12 DEX (the bow requires 22 STR and 12 dex, so 2 handed I should be able to weild it with the str bonus). However when I equip the bow 2 handed it still gives me insuficient skill. Do I need even more str? I thought 2 handing would give me enough...
Also, the crystal gecko in 4-1 I failed on it one try, then on another run after being killed by an invader and respawning the stage, the gecko wasn't there. Is there a chance it doesn't appear? I was able to kill the one in 1-2 a number of times when farming sharpstone.

You need to have 15 str to weild it without penalty. Multiplier is 1.5 when wielding with both hands not twice.

Dying as a blue phantom has no effect on your blood stain. It will still be where you died last.

Another question, what level would be the best to tackle next? I've beaten lvl's 1-1 and 2-1 with a 22 soul lvl Knight

4-1 has some nice goodies like a crescent falcion +1 and compound long bow, also frees the second best supplier of arrows, gaverobber blige. You can also head to 5-1 and pick up a mace near the beginning to help tackle the skeletons of 4-1.

Hey all, just wondering what I should make next on my faith build. I currently use a blessed miradin hammer +5 and large sword of moonlight +5. I have basic versions of basically every weapon that can be blessed: g. axe, crescent axe, great sword, knight sword, etc. I just can't decide what to forge but I'm leaning toward either the crescent or g. axe +5. Need some help deciding :D.

Noob here. I just imported DS (A Week after it arrives it's announced for PAL regions, grrrr) and it is kicking my a**! I playd through the first area, with the Phalanx, without dying once. Tower Knight was abit harder, died a couple of times, now it says I need an Archdemon soul to continue. So I go to the other worlds and MY GOD! There so damn hard! And the more I die the harder it gets. I've tried the Tower place, but the squid people insta-kill me, the Caverns I get further with every life but I'm getting Black WT and the rest are just no go's. I love this game, I really want to get good at it, but I'm tempted just to buy the PAL version and follow the guidebook.
So enough complaining, any tips? Is it possible to pay online first time through? Why are the other levels so intimidating compared to Bolataria Castle? Any help would be appreciated.

3-1 (Tower of Latria) isn't that difficult, but you do need to be careful with a low-level character, since the mindflayers kill quickly. Do you have the Thief ring? If so, equip it and try to sneak behind them for a backstab, and then combo them to death when they get back up. But if your combo doesn't finish them and you're out of stamina, roll away from them because they'll either cast some powerful blast spell or they'll send that paralyzing green ball that may 1-shot you. Once you avoid their attack, finish them off.
2-1 (Stonefang tunnel) should be one of the easier ones to start with. None of the enemies are that dangerous, just be careful of the pickaxe lizardmen, they can do serious damage but they're easy to avoid. You might need a weapon with piercing, though, to kill them more quickly. You might have picked up the winged spear in 1-2 (Boletaria 2), use it on them.
You say you are in black tendency now. Do you revive your body each time you die or something? You can just play in soul form, so if you die you won't get black tendency. If you do revive, try to look for blue signs on the ground to get another player to help you. You must play online for that, though. I highly recommend it, by playing online you can use the bloodstains and messages left by other players to guide you.

It's not pure Black WT but it's getting darker on the Archstone Menu screen. And yes, when I first started playing everytime I died I would use an item (Can't remember the name of it) to get me back to Body form. Is there any specific character build that is easier for beginners? When I first started I had no clue what so ever how to spec my character so I just sort of added to whatevr I felt like (I'm a Wanderer BTW).

Hi All! First post here and in dire need of (newb) help. I do not have 5 posts yet so I hope you do not mind if I "hijack" this thread.
I bought DS yesterday and I must this is probably one of the most challenging games I have ever played.
Cut to the chase.. 1-2 (Tower Knight Stage) is giving me immense problems. I thought it was because of my low level and generally poor item levels hence I started farming for souls and ores to upgrade my equipment. I am now a level 20 Knight with Level 7/6 Long Sword / Kite Shield.
The odd thing is, I am getting my butt kicked even worse when I was level 5. Is it just me or do the demons hit harder as you gain in soul level? I noticed that in my normal farming area, the mini Phalanx used to give 20+ souls, not it gives me 63 souls. The damage meted out is probably commensurate in this amount as well. A blue knight can 1-hit KO me.
Is this due to the World Tendency (I read up on this but I am not entirely sure on how this actually works tbh). Or do the monsters really hit that much harder? More importantly, what should I do now?
Morrigan Stark

Did you revive your body every time you tried? Because yes, every time you die in a world in body form, this said world's tendency shifts to black, which makes the enemies harder (and yes they also give more souls). Dying in soul form does not affect tendency, though.

Do I get the +magic damage bonus from Kris Knife even if i'm not wielding it, or do I have to keep it out? Like can I use Catalyst + Shield and just keep the Krys equipped and get the bonus.

Hello there, still realively new to Demon's soul and I have a question.
I started a new character as a Knight and I am going for a strength build and so far all is going great, but one thing is bugging me, World tendency is Pure White for ALL my worlds!
That seemed odd but indeed the gate in 1-1 was open and Miralda was there! I killed her and the world tendency went to neutral as it is supposed to be (oh. and by the way, my character tendency seemingly went darker too even if I was under the impression that it would not if Miralda attacks you first... but Demon brand will give me some hefty -30 or -40 so I suppose my CT must be darkish).
But day after that and it is pure white AGAIN! Is there an event going on?? The official wiki says the last event was the winter solstice but that was oh in December, or is it that the average WT is pure white at the moment??
Secondary question: I wanted to use Demon Brand but if I cannot switch worlds to PBWT I cannot kill the black phantom NPC and my tendency won't rise... or is there any other way to rise tendency than killing the black phantom npc or the black phantom players?
Thanks!

Actually it's very easy to kill the red dragon with magic as it is with arrows and costs less souls.
1) Get the fragrance ring so your MP regenerates. And soul arrow.
2) Go to the first sniper tower and kill the enemies there.
3) Carefully position your self so you can fire out over the ramp, than fire a few spells to make sure you have the height and direction you want.
4) Than it's all about timing to shoot the dragon as it passes in your spell ark. I was doing ~63pts of damage. Took about 40 minutes waiting for mana to regen though.

if u use hyper mode, soul ray, and ring of magical sharpness it should only take 5 hits
even with my mag stat at 10 I was able to kill him in 6 passes over the first tower

I seem to be having difficulties which is why I joined the form in the first place ^^.. I've encountered three things that have confused me.
1) I've played three characters a mage, a knight, and a holy knight. My brother is playing a hunter.
On my Knight and on his Hunter we can access the gate in 1-1 (after clearing the 1-2 boss) and kill the BP there. On my mage and holy knight no luck. We've both ran through 1-1 and 1-2 with no problem and there have been no changes to our play style. Do the class start with different WT?
2) On my mage and on his hunter we where able to deal decent damage to the monsters of 2-1 and 4-1 even when using mele on the mage (I can two hit a skeleton.)
But when I cleared 1-1 and 1-2 on my Holy Knight, without loosing body form on the 1-2 boss I go to world 2-1 and deal 20 damage ~ with a pick or 10~ damage with my halberd to the monsters there.
Going to 4-1 I can't kill any skelles. And final going back to 1-1 takes three hits to kill the mobs at the beginning.. I don't know how all the mobs got infinity harder. On my mage I've cleared 1-1, 1-2, 3-1, 5-1 with no problem.
3) If it takes roughly 15 hits to kill a mob with my Holy Knight yeilding only 3xp (beginning mobs of world 2-1) how am I supposed to get strong enough to kill em :-P..
My Holly Knight is roughly level 27. With a +2 Pole arm and +2 Pick Axe and his starting shield I've gotten to +2 as well.

are you aware of world tendencies and how they change
and also how it affects you when in a world with black or white tendency?
also the enemies in world two have a high defense against physical attacks
but are weak to magical attacks and piercing
as for the skellys in world 4 use crushing weapons like a mace or something
Kerensky18
06-23-2010, 10:28 PM
Yes I am aware, though I don't know how it would change drastically from the start when all I've done is killed boss 1-1 and 1-2 without dying.. 2 characters have PWWT and the other two are some where between neutral and white.. Hence why I'm asking if it changes on class?
Secondly on my holy knight I've noticed no change in damage between my pole arm/ mace. (Got the holy mace equipped.)

it really depends on your set up
but beating world 2 opens weapon upgrading
beating world 3 will help with magic spells
world 4 has useful items/weapons/miracle guy
and world 5 is just amazing so enjoy that

Ok, so I'm new to this game, and have some questions about WT. I've already looked at the demon's souls wiki, but didn't really find any answer to my questions, so I'd be extremely appreciated if you guys could help me:)
I know I can get good items from both PWWT and PBWT, but since I've taken all the bosses, and none of the worlds are pure white, should I just die in those worlds in body form, get PBWT, pick up the things you get, before I take out that stupid king?
Since it's only get harder in NG+, should I just make a new save if I want PWWT?
If I want PWWT, take world 2 for instance, can I get PWWT by first die in Nexus, get to Armored Spider, get my body back, die in Nexus, kill Flamelurker, die in Nexus, kill Dragon God, and then finally get my body back? Because I've read that nothing happens when you die i soul form, but do you still get points from killing bosses while in soul form, and is that alone enough to get PWWT?
Whats the best/easiest way to get PWWT?

Also with summonings do you just get some random person to come to your aid?

The Demon souls can be used to forge special unique weapons at Blacksmith Ed's, or can be traded to the teachers (Sage Freke, Yuria, St. Urbain) to learn spells and miracles. Some boss souls can be traded up to 4 times, which means you require 3+ playthroughs to learn every spell and miracle.
Also with summonings do you just get some random person to come to your aid?
You can see the PSN ID of the person who dropped a blue sign on the ground. When you drop your own sign, anyone who sees it can summon you.

Uh never die in body form, never invade. If you want 100% no way of failure (so long as you do it offline) pure WWT the best method is to kill the first boss (second boss as well in world 1's case), force pure black, kill the named BP and the Primeval Demon in one shot, kill the next boss, kill the final boss. It is 100% no chance of failure going to get you PWWT again so long as you do it offline.
Of course only play in soul form just in case, suicide in nexus when in body, etc etc. You could also try taking two blues with you on boss kills, this gives a huge bonus to WWT if they both survive.

Why should I get PBWT? Doesn't that just lower the chance of getting PWWT?
Ark_Raven
07-04-2010, 02:09 PM
PBWT causes more souls to be given per kill, unlocks certain areas and allows you to gather Colorless Demon's souls from Primeval demons, allowing special weapon upgrades... It's also harder, which is what some people want, and has Black Phantom versions of NPC's with good drops

Not if you do what I described above it doesn't. I just described the method you follow to do all WT and CT events in one playthrough and you end up as PW in most worlds and in CT.

In order to use miracles, you need to have a talisman. You'll find one as a treasure in 4-1 and 5-1. Or you can just buy it from Filthy Woman for 5000 souls in 5-1, and after completing it, in 5-2.

Well, I don't have much experience with DS either, just finished my first playthrough. I've currently started a new char and he's doing fine with 4-1, after going through 1-1 and 1-2. I have yet to beat it tho. But the talisman can be found at the beginning so it won't be hard to get it. Just take out the skeletons and work your way up the stairs till you get to the first fog gate. Don't go through, but turn right, and you'll find it in the dead body which is lying there. ;)

Usually near the start of the level and if you're in body form there should be blue marks on the ground, walk over them and you should get a option to summon. The % marks are for coop where you can give a grade to your partner, S being highest D being lowest.

Sadly no :/ You can only seek to help others (by using the blue eye stone). So the only way you can get help is when other players use it, which most of the time is before a boss.

How do I invade other peoples worlds? I can join others with my blue soul stone and have others join me but i cant invade?
you have to first kill a NPC black phantom they can be found on 1-4(three of them right at the start of the map) 2-2(two of them down an elevator), 3-1(right by the boss fog), 4-2(near saint urbain), and 5-2 in the swamp wielding a meat cleaver.
the easiest one for you would probably be the one on 2-2. the weapons they use are very slow and easy to dodge. just find a way to separate the two so you only have to fight them one at a time and you'll be fine.
once you kill one, you'll obtain a black eye stone as part of the reward. you use that item while in soul form and you will be able to invade games.
