How does this work actually? I keep hearing about it and not sure how it would work. Do you keep your Soul level or is it reset? My other question is about the max soul level. What is it? I read something about the max level being 712 which would give you enough stat points to max out all you're stats but that would be insane!

you keep everything its the same game but the enemies are harder, you just keep progressing your character but have to play the storyline again and you get all the perks (like boss souls)

You will need numerous playtroughts to get all the upgrades and spells that use demon souls. Some souls are used for miracles/weapons/spells so only one per game...

NG+ Means: You start your journey anew, but you keep everything you collected on you and in storage aswell, your caracter stays the Soul Level he was when the game ended. Enemies are Boosted, if not hyped sometime (xD), but you get More Souls from all enemies. Basically it's nightmarish, IMO.

All Weapons, Stats, and Spells Carry over, all key items are lost.

I can't confirm that, as I haven't done NG+ yet, you might even keep the keys.

Honestly...more games NEED NG+, ESPECIALLY RPGs. The main reason I don't play through RPGs more then once is that I don't want to bother with all the grinding.

Yes, they do. Although the first NG+ is the most noticeable boost.

I am not sure... at least 70% of the last decade's JRPGs have some sort of NG+ feature and Crono Trigger is not a very old title anyway. But yes, you generally keep your stuff and play through the game again, everything respawns.

I just started my newgame+ and compared to the first playthrough I'm virtually obliterated the moment I start playing. I was completely unaware how much damage output of oppontents would increase. I kept reading about "significant" and phrases like "x percent more difficult". Well, actually: I can't do anything. My character is a mage more or less built for ranged combat. (also using a bow) The problem is: I can not summon blue phantoms to help me with bosses because after using up a vast amount of ephimephipephi####y-whatever stones to revive myself: Each and every single time before I even got the chance to summon anything I get smashed to pieces by some black phantom. Because I did not know how much damage taken increases in the second playthrough I did not put enough points into vitality. The result: I can't even defeat the 4-1 boss (1 hits me ... and avoiding even a single miss-step in a boss fight ... well ... lol) thus preventing me from reaching the one really effective grind spot in this game to upgrade my character and make it playable in ng+.

So, to all who are still in their first playthrough: If you're not the lightning-reaction-master who can play without being hit at all in boss fights consider upgrading your HP pool to the point where it appears senseless before going to ng+.

To all others: Any hints how I could make my character playable again?

Go to the 1-1, theres a red knight there, easy 2000 souls. Or search for souls like Renown, Hero, Unknown, ect. Wait, can't be summoned as a soul? Well that rules out co-oping for souls. Or try the hit-and-run tactic, that always puts a smile on my face when they yell at me over PSN. Best of luck to you.

I can 'be' summoned. Also: In theory I might be able to summon other players while I'm alive ... it's just that since ng+ I didn't get to try it yet, as between entering any world in body form and being slaughtered by some (apparently pvp optimized) black phantom player there is not enough time to summon anyone.

Guess I'll need to coop play for souls, but if I get killed by a BP in another players game I still loose my souls don't I? 2000 souls a run on a mob at least two minutes into the level isn't really a "grinding" option for soul level 102. ;) It's just: Before switching to ng+ I could farm that 4-2 reaper ... so it's just frustration not having an equally quick way of collecting souls while aiming for my current objective. (=at least survive ONE standard attack from a boss)

I believe BP's can only take a portion of your souls, not the entirety. So regardless of how you die as a Blue Phantom, you'll have something left.

I was summoned into a world that had allready been invaded by a BP.

Had no idea what was going on and had allready been killed before I figured it out.

Dying as a Blue Phantom to the BP had this wonderful message attached
"You have lost soul level"

I just made huge mistake by starting NG+ at soul level 70ish. I can't get the black maiden to upgrade my soul level now and I lost a couple of levels on PvPing as a BP. Now, I cant' use my purple shield cos my strength stat went down to 23....Happy Days...!! I'm absolutely stuck now; so, there is only way to go as far as souls lvl is concernedi.e. down. What's the point of continuing the game? It's really annoying....is it a bug?

purple flame shield only has a 22 STR req not 23. you can still use it.

As a very low vitality build, I haven't found NG+ to be that much more difficult than the first time through. Yes, basically every enemy can one hit you so get good at dodging and stay ranged - The Clever Rat's Ring is your best friend.

If you think you're Soul Level is too low, use the shortcut to get to the 4-1 Boss and kill him so you can farm 4-2 for a while. No matter what your Soul Level, anyone should be able to beat 4-1 pretty easily if you don't get greedy and pay attention.

its no big deal meph :D i honestly don't like using purple flame anyways. i use dark silver myself. if you picked that up in your first playthrough, use it. it'll help ya in pvp since it blocks magic, and it is a smaller shield so you won't need to have STR as high to use it effectively. beyond that, i'd try to group up with other people(with you as the blue phantom) and do as much soul farming that way as you can in order to get your level up higher so you can get your stats balanced out.

you can use the blue phantom mode to quickly gain souls while you help people do their maps. the maiden will still let you level up if you are in phantom form, you just have to wait until you are back in your game. not to mention if you help somebody beat a boss, you get your body back which is another way you can rez yourself.

Hey Meph,

I noticed no one else hit upon this. Just like in your first game, in the NG+ and all games that follow you have to clear 1-1. AKA Kill that blob-shield thing. Once you do you can then start buying souls levels again.

okay so I can use the white bow but since I have 10+long composite bow which is better simply because i cant upgrade the white bow but this is besides my question. I wanted to know what are the differences between upgrades and quality upgrades Like at +4 the item can continue to upgrade and get better or u can do the quality upgrade but the attack power drops but does that mean when it gets upgraded from quality the attack power will be better in the end? im confused please help. another question i have is I have so many stone I dont even know what they are used for like the dragon pure stones and spider , cloud stuff etc.. I dont know yet what they are used for im guessing upgrades of some sort but on what weapons or when in the game.

Ran into my first issue on NG+ last night with Maneater. I was in hyper-mode and he actually took me down twice in a row through the brazier with phyiscal attacks. He definitely wasn't doing that the first time through. It was quite late so I needed to get to bed before trying another tactic, which is fantastic since I get to stew over this all day....:mad:

You should have warding for fights like this. It wont do diddly for magic, but it does greatly help with physical damage. Its almost needed for black phantom fights. I have 27 Vit and with warding the 4-1 black phantom will take out 90% of my life with one strong hit or 2 weak ones. This is on NG ++ though.

I have it, but was completely taken by surprise when he killed me through the brazier. I wanted to see if that what was really happened so I tested it again.....You are Dead...;) It'll be going on tonight for certain. I think my vitality is at 10.

warding won't help you if you're doing a low vit hypermode build. just have to be extra careful. when i killed him on my hypermode guy i got him facing the brazier and backed up away from it slowly to where i could shoot over the top of it. when he wasn't in that spot i spent the whole time either dodging or shooting when he was on one of the path ways far enough away that i knew he wouldn't hit me.

Thanks. I was right up against it when he reached through and whacked me. I figured I'd have to back off out of his reach. The way you describe is basically how I took down the first time, but I was able to go toe to toe with him when he was at the brazier. That's obviously not the case anymore....

Back to topic, I read somewhere New Game+ increase by a large gap in term of the damage and HP from the 1st round you played, however every next new game+ increase by 8% difficulties only.

You can always summon phantoms, regardless of Soul Level, it just requires someone to be in your range.

The range is 10+(SL/10) round down. So at SL 105 your range is plus or minus 10+(105/10)=10+10.5=20. So players between levels 85 and 125 can help you.

Also, NG/NG+/NG++ is irrelevant to calling Blue Phantoms as I discovered being pulled into a 4-2 run where I got smoked through my shield by LazerGhost.

I left my NG at 125 so the only games I got invited to we're NG+ games.
