Shotel: Is it any useful? I feel like the 50% shield penetration kind of nice. Any thoughts on this weapon? (besides the fact that it looks sick)

Sharp Scimitar +5 or Tearing Scimitar +5 - I know Sharp will end up with a higher base attack but I was wondering if the bleeding effect of the Tearing will cause for more damage. Is Tearing more for a PVP setting?

Thanks for the help!

I do like the shotel, although I haven't fully upgraded mine yet. It's good when you get invaded and it takes the Bp by surprise when you hit through his shield while it's up. Although the damage is fairly minimal to start out with. And as for your other question I'm not sure.

Shotel can be useful, especially in PvP. It is rather weak compared to other weapons, but the shield penetration makes up for it.

Tearing works well if you are a defensive player. Hit, cause bleed, back off and block, if they try to heal/recover from bleed, re-inflict it.

i hate the shotel and i hate the uchingata even more....way way way too low durability for me

i guess would be great if you carried around a dufflebag full of eds grindstone tho :P, i wouldnt want to waste my ring slot, but i guess the ronin ring would be good as well

im using a weapon with durability of 140 and its even bothering me....perhaps the 400 on my spear i always used is whats spoiling me

aside from the durability issues they are amazing weapons IMO tho

edit...and as for the scimtar, you should look at the kilij or even falchion (they have the same attacks) i really like the direction slash its a free double attack and retreat

Thanks for you answers guys, maybe I should try to get a Tearing Shotel +5 on a my back up slots when I get invaded.

Also, I stayed away from the Kilij just because it has a slower swing. The Falchion maybe, but it is still a slower swing and its heavier than the Scimitar, with only a 5 point difference in attack. But yea curved weapons have amazing swing animation, specially the flurry attack that you mentioned Ice Pick.

The Uchigatana seems to be designed for taking out lightly-armored targets, while the Scimitar and Falchion are better all-around. Scimitar takes less stamina to swing, right?

Indeed it does. The heavier the weapon is , the more stamina it takes to swing it around.

Aaaaand that's why I love this game.

So, on a related note, whicj is better: Sharp or Fatal? This will be on a Secret Dagger.

Sharp itself will increase the attack power depending on your Dex, while Fatal will maintain a decent attack power but will increase the damage of backstabs and riposte. So, Sharp will have a high attack power with regular attacks, but Fatal will have super powerful backstabs/riposte.

Hmmm... I guess Fatal would be the best then. My brother has a Thief that he loves to backstab with. I'll have to give him some stones.

Just as a protip to people who think the shotel is good. There are two other weapons in the game that bypass shields 100%.

Oh well, that sucks for the Shotel.

And here I was, just starting to consider upgrading my Shotel... Tsk. It's such a BA looking weapon.

The only other weapon that I can find that goes through guards is the Blind, another curved sword. I don't know how much it goes through, though. Now I know why the fight to get it is so hard, haha...

somebody that has a kilij and a shotel take them out primary and secondary and watch them attack

i cannot tell any difference in the speed or stamina usage of them.....it might be a little bit faster but if it is its extremely small, and the stamina meter looks the exact same to me.....anybody tell a difference?

they are the exact same...all curved swords swing at the same speed and same stamina cost

It's not the actual weapon that determines the cost and speed its the weapon class i.e. curved sword, sword, large sword, axe...

My point Ice Pick was that the killij's longer blade meant it took more time to complete it's swing. It isn't that it swings slower but that the longer blade gives it a longer swing. That probably makes no sense but what can you do ;p.

Point is main difference is length, I find the killij a little too long for my tastes with only slashes it bounces off a few too many walls.

I have to admit, my Falchion makes me mad sometimes when I try to kill Lizards and it just bounces off the walls before they disappear... But I've found that the Heavy attack generally comes from a higher angle, and always knocks the Crystal Lizard down, so that I have time to do another. So I just use R2 exclusively on them, haha.

Still curious what the two weapons are that go 100% through shields are though, Karkarov. ;)

I will pm you, not going to post it.

I thought the shotel would have been awesome upgraded but I ended up never using it due to the low damage.

For shielded enemies, I just wait for a break in their defenses.

Might be useful for PVP but marginally, because the damage is not that high even upgraded, plus only 50% goes through shields.

I love the Rapier and upgraded it +7... now I read that for the Mercury upgrade it needs to be +3... bummer! :(

So if I down grade it and start over, who can make the mercury upgrade? The normal blacksmith in the nexus or Ed? I neer found Ed though even though I already have beaten the armored spider...

If you do downgrade it you can make it mercury. I believe Boldwin can only do the normal upgrade and the quality upgrade. Ed does the rest.

Don't downgrade it! Just get another Rapier mate, and get that +7 to +10

Karkarov

Harl is right, do not downgrade especially since there is a mercury rapier +1 in 3-1....
