View Full Version : Take 2: Most Dissapointing Boss Battles

Ok this thread is about what boss battle was the biggest let down to you and why that is.... Pretty simple yeah?
For me there are two. Number one by far is the Dirty Colossus. Why? Because the only time he managed to land a hit on me (note I read no strats in advance or watch vids of bosses) was when I read a message by his door that was basically worthless. During the process he tagged me with some black goop at crazy long range. After that I closed, easily got his patterns, and never took another hit. Let down to be sure. The boss of 5-2 is definitely the level itself not this guy, you could almost take this as a kind of make up for how outright nasty getting to him is.
The second is the Penetrator. I imagine it may have been a rough fight and a good challenge... If it weren't for the fact that he totally ignored me the whole time in favor of beating up Biorr. You would think after I knocked half his life off stabbing him in the back he would turn around. But NOOO. Biorr is the threat despite not being able to get one swing off due to the constant pounding he is taking.
The bosses like the game are very old school in nature. Learn 1 or 2 tricks and they're push overs.
Wearing the thief's ring against old hero for instance makes the fight cake walk.
Not doing that without camo? Not so much...
Given the amount of Leroy Jenkins gamers out there. A large part of the population probably doesn't think they're easy haha.

So far, the Vanguard Tutorial fight. Disappointing because I barely even saw him and he launched me across the room. Somehow he spawned close enough to hit me with a vertical swing. Which sucks horribly, because I really wanted to take him on.

You get a shot at revenge later. He is beatable then but you really have to time it perfect.

I saw. I actally do OK as long as I stay mobile against him. One-hit KO on me if I slip up.

I love the Penetrator battle but I know perfectly what you mean; If I want an "epic" battle, I just don't free Biorr and, more importantly, NO THIEF RING.

At least all of the above bosses actually fight you.
After I beat the dragon god (or whatever he's called) I just sat there for a second and said "umm, that's it?"

The 4-1 boss. Not Vanguard but the other guy. Complete joke. I don't think it even hit me once.

Well... I had a rough time getting through the rubble (Winged Spear = 4 hits to break through). Then I finally got down to his face.
I wind up for the killing blow (going 2-handed for extra damage)
He opens his mouth and I die to the flames.
My controller ricocheted twice before landing. Lucky for me I have a squishy sleeve for it or it would be in pieces.
He's the easiest boss in concept, but one of the hardest to actually pull off.

Adjudicator is a joke but the thing is, depending on your S.lvl, he hits you once and you're history.

Armor Spider if you just go to one corner of the hallway and shoot him with arrows -_- All he can hit you with is that web shot, and that does tiny damage that was easily mitigated with my regenerator ring.

Actually I died to adjudicator 3 times. The first two had to do with the refusal to read strats and learning the reality that you cant stop moving. I know you "can" fight him from upstairs but I found dodging his tongue way harder than dodging him in melee. The third death was because I go over eager and his fat lardy butt stuck me in a corner and I couldnt reach the one spot and if I moved I bounced off him :p.
And yeah, his sword would one shot me if I didn't have block up.
I will add on Old hero to this list. I know the guy has his eys covered but holy crap. He never hit me once, once you are in the "spot" to melee him from he is completely defenseless. I almost always use the thieves ring on new encounters to help learn them but on him I took it off when he got to half health and went with a avarice instead since a five year old could have worked the guy.
The storm king goes down as another "easy fight that is so cool I can forgive it anyway" though. Man if that sword worked like that all the time I would be running around with it yelling about "Dark Slayer" all the time.

Dragon God was indeed disappointing, especially given that it is an Archedemon. Such a huge and awesome looking boss and he goes down so easy with some conveniently placed spears. Although, it was tense trying to break down the rubble in time before he could see me. But even then he did see me a few times, I was only hurt about three times, none of which were life threatening. Tower Knight was also pretty easy too, so far Flamelurker has been the most formidable foe. I hope the other Archedemon fights are more intersting and difficult.

I think a lot of match-ups can be disappointing or ridiculously challenging based on your build. Dirty Colossus and Leechmonger were cakewalks for me, but if I hadn't been a Royal with a ton of Fire Spray damage on them from afar, I can see those fights being VERY different. Adjudicator wasn't hard for me at all, but I had a BOSS Blue Phantom on my side who pretty much did all the heavy lifting -- Should've just called him Biorr. ;-)
I'd enjoy a separate thread talking about favorite fights, if only because I do think it's easy to make boss fights disappointing, depending on how your build cheeses them (as is, I think they did a pretty good job of making most bosses interesting for all builds -- Armor Spider being a great example of nasty at range and up close)

The tower knight i felt was way to easy for ranged players

I haven't read any of the other posts because i don't want to spoil myself, but to me, the Adjudicator was a major disappointment.
I say that because when i first walked into the room i got killed by a crazy tongue that came out of nowhere. I was so freaked out by it that on my second try i was almost dreading the fight, but once i got to the bottom of the stairs the battle turns into Vanguard 2.0. Too easy.
Major letdown.
EDIT: Man, the Black Skeleton guarding the gate to the Adjudicator was harder than him for Doran's sake

Well there are all the easiest bosses.... But...
The monumental is the hardest boss in the damn game. YOU CAN'T KILL THAT BASTARD.

I'd say that the most disappointing boss fight is probably The Dragon god one. Easily the coolest looking boss in-game and such a lame and easy fight. Especially considering the boss that was before him.

I agree that the flame lurker is one of the hardest. But the game can be exploited to knock off harder enemies with ease. I died repeatedly to him untill I ran toward the fog at the other end up the steps and he got caught on the edge of the wall trying to run forward I stood still with shield and spear careful not to move and slowely he died by a spear. If I had to fight him again I would try this as its smart to use your surroundings when against a foe that would kill me for sure.

I dont know when I did new game plus I one shot flamelurker. I guess practice makes perfect? In fact other than that retard Dirty Colossus and the Dragon I have one shot them all so far. The reason I died Colossus was I didn't pay attention to my position and on a dodge roll I landed in sludge that stopped my movement. His black flyswarm spam made sure I didn't have time to climb out. The Dragon well... I sort of had to use the restroom and I tried to rush the fight.... :/

Ok, screw it. I refuse to use bows on bosses anymore. The Storm King dropped without a damn fight, so did the old hero for Doran's sake.

Both of those are easy without bows too if you know how to melee.... In fact the best way to beat storm king is sitting in the area with him. Good luck killing him with a normal weapon and no bow though.
