View Full Version : Patches.. Ugh.. You let me down.

I've been following Volume's guide (http://www.neoseeker.com/resourcelink.html?rlid=193237&rid=179629).. I've been doing great, I've spent all the time in the world upgrading everything and making my way through the game. However, I've got to the part in the guide where it states:

"Once out of the tunnel. You should see Patches the Hyena. Yes, he is a
nasty NPC but you really need him.
So, please don't kill him or you have to restart your game. He is the only
merchant that sell unlimited Hard Arrows, the second best arrows in the
game. The best is White Arrows but they came in limited supply, ~50-60 per
game.

Just follow his instruction and get the treasure. The Giant bearbug will
fall in front of you. Kill it with Soul Arrow or magical weapon. When it
got killed, back away and hold up your Purple Flame Shield to survive
the explosion.

Talk to Patches again to get a Ring of Flame Resistance."

Well, as I was killing the bearbug, somehow.. someway.. Patches managed to step in front of me and take an arrow to his head. Thus, Patches' body was laying dead beneath my feet when it was all over.

Should I really restart my game? Will these Hard Arrows play that much of a factor in a bow-specific build?

Any and all help is much appreciated.

Uh.... you can use regular arrows but yeah the hard arrows are vastly superior. I would just slug it out for this run and deal with normal shots. Make sure to carry extra arrows though.

For me Hard arrows aren't that big of a deal, I mean they help with Crystal Lizards but i'm not very bow dependant either... getting my white bow stats tonight though! :D

You should really be happy, he's a jerk. Take his shield for me lol.

I just stood at range and killed it with magic. Got me real satisfaction that way because I got the ring from the corpse after the fact and patches got hit by the explosion. He did live through it though.

lol me too, I was like oh crap he's gonna die.

Then after kicking me into that pit I wanted him to die!

I'm going to murder him after getting the assassin lady to show up just because.

I'll stock up on arrows and put them in storage before hand. He's going down.

Patches is awesome. 'nuff said.


On a sidenote, step-by-step demon's souls guides should be forbidden - way to spoil the fun, way to kill all possibilities for rewarding feelings. ;P

patches is awesome hes my type of friend, he'll attempt to backstab u multiple times in the game yet everytime u reappear he gives u something nice in return for a lil sympathy to let him live :p

Concurs despite admitting that he did say how he cleared one of the events.

Patches kicked me in a hole today like a dick. I felt like killing him regardless of those wonderful arrows he sells.

Skeleton archers in 2-1 have white arrows as a rare drop. You can also kill hawks to get them.

As you progress patches gets more stuff, eventually he sells white arrows too. They are crazy expensive though.

He has a limited supply of 30 tho.

How can you tell what patch is out and is it automatic? I been playing since thurs night, but I never seen it update. Sorry for being a total noob. I am use to the ps3 updating and see it doing it.

The NA version of the game is the same version as the Asian release thats how he knows. I imagine the patches are not optional unless you play only offline.

I killed the bearbug before getting the treasure. Patches is not offering me the ring nor showing up in the Nexus.

Any advice. Please tell me I can rectify this. Love the game so far and I don't mind difficult enemies but if I just messed up my game (I'm a hunter and yes, I need arrows) I might just call it quits.
