I'm rolling with a female knight who uses heavy armor and shields. So I'm looking at my armor choices for her... Well, all the gender specific heavy armor seems to be male which kind of blows.

However, the deluxe edition strategy guide mentions "Dull Gold Armor" in the equipment listing, but doesn't mention where to get it from what I can see. I've check online and google can't find what I'm talking about.

Does this armor even exist?

BTW the color is rubbing off the spine of the cover my strat guide... it sucks

lol look at the fading strat guide again, page 73 8th line from the bottom ;) and whats wrong with brushwood? (besides being unisex)

p.s. the spine of mine is all white and there is a circle on the front from flipping through it with my thumb :(

lol nothing wrong with brushwood (even though it's a bit bulky looking for my tastes) but variety is the spice of life.

but thanks didn't see that page.

btw what the hell did they use for ink on this cover... I haven't been manhandling it that badly.

I know, I am afraid it will melt in my hands...

Must be different than what was used for the artbook. The artbook quality is great.

You weren't seriously thinking to get a bulletproof guide for 10 bucks more?
Good guides usually cost 30-60 bucks alone. Just saying...

I wasn't shooting guns at it, I was holding it in my hands gently as I looked through it. I'm mostly using online so I haven't even been referring to the strat guide that often.

Also, I've bought $20 guides that are twice as big and melt in your mouth not in your hand. Seriously, how many books have you bought for 10 dollars where the color on the cover rubs off with light use?

Well, yeah the ink already dissolving after 3 days is embarrassing...

I have seen this quite a bit because I reference my guide constantly for crafting and weapon usage info. However I bought two deluxe ed's for a reason ;p

Ok that was maybe an over-exaggeration on my part, mostly because that stuff is hella expensive over here (Switzerland). ;)
Although, how much did the 600 pages Arc the Lad Official Guidebook cost? Can't remember the exact price but I know it was expensive...

Out of sheer curiosity... Why are you going with heavy armor?

Have you thought about looking up the "Beggar's Armor". I have the "Dull Gold Armor" and I believe there might have been a miss traslation or something. :/ So try the "Beggar's Armor" on the web.

I use heavy armor because I prefer turtling over rolling around like a crazy person. The downside is that sometimes I need to strip down because turtling won't work (hello Flamelurker).

Yep. That's the fight that decided it for me right there. After that I ran around without any armor until I found the Assassin's set or whatever it's called in 3-1. Might give the heavy stuff a try when I get my equip burden up a little higher.

Reasons I like Heavy Armor:

1) It looks cool. I like playing a female character that doesn't look like one of these daft fantasy broads whose armor rating rises exponentially to the amount of cleavage they show. I like that sort of Hilde from SC or Joan of Arc look.

2) I like to turtle. I play a heavy shields with high stamina build.

3) Heavy armor has helped me survive hits that would otherwise kill me if I was one of these wizard robe-wearing buckler-carrying rapier-waving dandies that I see getting killed in bloodstains all the time. I would say 90% of my deaths are from falling XD

4) I like "tanking" for people as a blue phantom. There are times when my teammate looks like they are about to get their head busted in - So I get between them and the boss so they can escape. Heavy Armor lets me feel more confident that I can take a few hits.

5) It's not like you CAN'T roll with heavy armor. Rolling is just a little harder since you can't bounce around like a monkey. It ends up being more situational. I killed Tutorial Vanguard using lots of rolls as my knight. In fact I probably would have been one-shot a few times if I wasn't wearing my fluted. Instead I lived, ate a few grasses, and kept fighting.

Well here is the skinny....

1: If you really want that Dull Gold send me a PM I can tell you where to find the set.

2: Armor is great on the first playthrough and does make things easier. You say flamelurker cant be tanked? I bet a flame res ring, brushwood set, and brush shield say otherwise.

3: HOWEVER... armor does not scale. The more new game+ you do the harder the mobs hit. Eventually they will hit so hard your armor will make little to no noticable difference.

4: PVP in heavy armor really is a bad idea long term. Trust me I just won 4 in a row against heavy armor users and I wear leather. Yeah they can take major hits, but once I am behind them their armor does squat and when they run to heal they find out just how much faster I run than they do. Meanwhile if I need to escape to recover I can easily out distance them and with double hiding buffs I can get out of sight fast.

I doubt I'll be doing too many NG+ cause I know my attention span is short and Tekken and Dragon Age are coming soon. Plus, the prospect of NG+infinity doesn't really excite me all that much personally when basically the only thing that is viable at that level are borderline exploits. I'd rather just have one really awesome experience with a game then move on.

Also I don't do PvP (unless forced due to invasion) so that really isn't a concern for me either. Most of the time I'm running around in soul form anyways.

Listen to this guy he knows his stuff ;)

However, don't automatically think you've already won if you face a brushwood guy in PvP; The one time you encounter a skilled one with a "ring of great strength" equipped, you're dead. Happened already to often that I misjudged those guys.

I just got this armor in 5 - 2 off a slug I think... Or it might have been a troll. Their bodys over lapped.

BTW 5 - 2 worst lvl ever.

I was just scouting it to do the pure black run... at least I kicked the plank over. Should be much easier now.

It was a slug. 5-2 is only topped by 5-1 jesus I hate that place. I finally caved and made the morion on my new game + just so I could hyper mode those annoying asswipe club users. It is the only safe way to deal with them.

i'll probably do the same, I died a few times by them... my instinct kept saying dodge even though I knew I couldn't haha... resulting in my stumbling and dying!

But I got that plank knocked down finally so now i'm onto taking it pitch black and sniping :D
