I've started over and beat the blob. Now, what do I need to make the scraping spear? Do I need the regular spear that the thief is selling or can I use the spear that the Templar is equipped with? Or am I way off?

From what I recall, you need the Winged Spear and the Lead Demon's Soul. That's it, I think. Once you have those (which it sounds like you do), then you can make it.

Only Ed can forge special weapons, especially demon's weapons; you need to go to 2-1.
Also, your winged spear has to be at +7 to forge the Scraping spear from it.

And don't forget you have to give Ed the Red Hot Demon Soul you get from killing flamelurker or he won't forge special weapons for you.

it doesnt have to be winged spear +7, short spear +7 works too

ANY spear-type weapon can make the Scraping Spear, provided it it at EXACTLY +7. If you upgrade to +8, you can't do it. This game is very specific about upgrades.

No selling of items in this game. Just drop them or let Stockpile Thomas keep them. Never know when you might need one.

Yeah, keep doubles of weapons. You never know when you might want to upgrade them differently.

He consumed it, the real use of lurkers soul is to give it to ed so you can upgrade and forge "valuable" weapons. Like forging north regalia or the blueblood sword and using colorless demon souls to level things up.

Actually turns out I didn't! I thought I did, it was in my storage!

I had talked to ed like 3 times with it on before I really looked it up and thought it would say "flame lurker" or whatever and not just red hot....

But I thought it was wrong because it didn't activate... so yesterday I took it to him and talked to him about 5 times. Finally he asked for it!

So now i'm a happy colorless soul upgrading boy :)

Few weapons to make but I used most the early ones on spells. I consumed 2 or 3 like an idiot before researching this though.

Im stumped Im 2-1 on my way to fight flurkerer or what ever his name is.I have been doing good with my bastard sword+2 but seeing other people playing using sword spear with shields. S i found this big steel shield went back to my longsword upgraded it +4 wasted souls and stones and i seem to have gotten weaker im frustrated I want a bad ass sword that i can swing quick with a do damage

For me, I started as a royality, But if you get the dragon down and get the wing spear from the corpes then go back to the dragon roost, you can get the purplr flaming shield, it takes 22 str to use, but you can equip it and block even though you dont have it. it just take a lot of stam when hit by melee but arrows it takes none. its also a 100% block and blocks flame attacks, so its worth using. also the wing spear if you use the upgrades to like +4 (which is where I am and I havent finished 1-2 yet) it does alot of damage and has great reach.

It sounds more like you're just letting them hit you. Repeatedly. Which, mind you, isn't a tactic I would be too fond of farther down in the game. I just kind of bait the enemies into swinging, and then rush in and slice 'em up a few times. When I used a Winged Spear though, it was pretty much just 'Attack!', with the occasional shield raise thrown in just in case.

But I think you said something about doing good with a Bastard Sword +2 before you switched to this set? Well, why would you change? If a longsword and shield aren't working for you, then maybe it's just your playing style to use the Bastard Sword. Who knows. If you're really bent on using this new weapon set but still can't get it to work for you, check your shield stats for the damage reduction %, or watch how you take on the axe guys. As in, if you're dodging enough, taking too many hits, trying to swing your sword but get hit, attacking alot then getting hit with low stamina, enemies use heavy attacks and break your guard, etc. Lots of little details that might be contributing.

EDIT: Oh, now that I think on it, there was a System Message (Not a Player Message) in front of that area that said to use piercing weapons on the enemies ahead. That's probably your issue, if you just can't kill them. They have a higher slash defense than usual. So just go pick up a spear from the merchant in 1-1 or 1-2, or wherever you can find one. =P

Those guys are weak against magic. Spells like Soul Arrow and Soul Ray should do the job quite well.

i accidently killed ed, so kinda in same situation> have a temple night level 30. what's the max weapon i can get w nexus blacksmith. should i start over, lean into magic now or what????

Is there a page or something that explains what upgrade weapon does what? Im only a lvl 18 soldier witha +2 spear and +1 broad sword, and I want to know what upgrades I should do because I dont want to screw myself over! I need all the help I can get haha!

Specifically check the section on upgrading. Bear in mind upgrading anything other than a shield to straight +10 is a bad idea. Some upgrade options also require different levels of weapons first. Like to make a moon long sword you would need a +6 longsword first. Fortunately for us all most upgrade options either come at +3, +6, or are available from the get go.
