question about forging

ok...i really really want the scraping spear, i think it looks awesome and its a great weapon on top of that

so here i am with a +7 winged spear, and the proper soul, yet there is no option to forge it....how do i make it?

u need to give the flamelurker demon soul to the blacksmith in stonefang tunnel then he will let u make the special weapons from souls as well as upgrade legendary weapons

Only Ed can forge demon's weapons - are you really trying this with the blacksmith in 2-1? If yes, do you still have the 2-2 boss' soul in your inventory?

lol ya thats the main reason i want it besides it looking bad ass......i was weary of its effectiveness....but after i killed the penitrater (SPOILER??) that guy you fight with it and saw like 3-4 hits is all it took with it i was like i gotta get this......but ya i have all the boss souls so far now....i just give it to the guy in 2-1 and im set? SWEET...tyvm for the help

i do need ot ask tho...this +7 spear i have is the ONLY good weapon i have atm.....i can still use the scraping spear to destroy people.....or should i upgrade a second one and create it?

since you need a high plus spear in the first place I would create it dude. It isn't like you cant just grind souls or mobs to get he mats. Assuming you didn't kill the merchants...

So is the scraping spear any good for pve? It's the best melee weapon I have at the time (winged spear+7) and I don't care about pvp right now. Would I be better off going all the way, and just making a second for the rare?

No it isn't that good for pve. Unless your pve includes Garl Vinland. Getting a spear to +7 isn't really that hard, I would go ahead and do it then just grind some mats back.

Scraping spear is EXCELLENT for PVP ... it doesn't take long to render enemies weapons useless if they are the type to turtle behind shields. Just carry a higher damage weapon in the secondary slot for once their equipment is beat up.

Hmmm...I am currently carrying a Quality Winged Spear + 4 since I heard that you can turn in into a Dragon weapon if you raise it's stats higher.

Is what I heard bogus or maybe should I go for this Scraping Spear instead?

Quality is a branch of upgrades, you can't turn it into Dragon anymore. Not only that, spears can't have the Dragon enchant.

If you want the scraping spear, you need to upgrade any spear (Winged or Short) to +7. Regular +7, IE: Winged Spear +7, not Moon Winged Spear +5 or anything like that. And when you get that, go to Ed and use the Hard Demon's soul to upgrade your +7 spear to the scraping spear.

If you have Flamelurker's soul, go to Ed in 2-1 and keep talking to him until he asks you for it (Red Hot Soul). When you give it to him, he'll be able to forge advanced weapons and be able to forge weapons using demon's souls, which is what's required to get weapons like the Scraping Spear.

I see. So, aren't there any interesting upgrades that can be applied to this weapon in it's present state (Quality)? I'm not going to reset it's growth to turn it into something specific since I am still experimenting with the system. But I suppose I should be able to create something good out of it... right?

Wilco, I am going to get what I can from this blasted Spear and then I will forge another one... if I can find any lying around...

Since - like you said - a weapon can be upgraded to something special, like Dragon or something kinkier while it remains of normal quality, could I maybe forge my first ever Falchion into something worthy of carrying around?

But I think that the manual quite clearly states that you can reset a weapon's growth, cons being that you lose all the stones that have gone into improving it.

So I guess there IS a way back to the original, it just isn't a very forgiving one. ;)

So, to wrap things up, any Falchion can be upgraded into the LSoS but a Kilij will have better overall stats? Or are the stats going to improve to a fixed amount once the starting weapon has been renamed?

When you are making a weapon with a demon soul like the scraping spear or large sword of searching what weapon you use to make it has no bearing on the final product. In other words you want to use the most minimal option you can to make it. Either a weapon that can be straight upgraded with no + or the weapon that requires the least amount of mats per level.

Also you can buy spears off the dregling merchant, they really don't cost much so no reason to wait for a new game.

Actually any of the curved swords, falchion, scimitar, kilij, and the other one can be turned into the LSoS. And no, not ANY Falchion, only Falcion +8, remember. It has to be a normal Falchion +8 with no other buffs. No matter what sword you will use to upgrade to LSoS, whether it be Kilij or Falch, it'll end up being the same.

Oh, fun fact, any special upgrades for weapons can only go up to a MAXIMUM of +5, such as, Quality +5, or Dragon +5. It can be lower depending on weapon.

And in regards to stats, here are some comparisons, also, Falchion is 2nd best curved sword, Kilij is first:

Falchion +0 (Most basic Falch): 85 DMG, E ranked STR boost, D Ranked DEX boost.
Kilij +0 (Most basic Kilij): 90 DMG, E ranked STR boost, D Ranked DEX boost.

Now, lets say we do cresent?

Crescent Falch +1: 67 DMG, 82 Magic DMG, A ranked Magic Boost.
Crescent Kilij +1: 71 DMG, 87 Magic DMG, A ranked Magic Boost.

So I suggest just starting with what's closer to +8 =P. That's what I do with some items, like the Dark Heater shield for example. To get to the Dark option, normally you would have to get your shield up to +6 and only then start on Dark +1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. But if you start with Dark Heater shield (you find it, that's what i'm ultimately trying to say), you skip the first +6 of Heater Shield.

Yup, I have the Dark Heater Shield +2... Will it turn into something interesting or is just getting it upgraded worth because of the stats boost and general protection offered?

The only reason you would want to upgrade the Dark Heater Shield +2 another 3 levels is for the trophy... That's it.

I like small shields, so I upgraded the Soldier's Shield to +10 to give max physical damage protection that it can offer and I have the Dark Silver Shield (Which you will get) for Magic protection. That's all =P

Nothing in this game is cosmetic, except for a few obvious upgrades (like from Falchion to LSoS).

A soldier's shield +10 will look the same as dark soldier's shield +5
