Favorite Weapon Type?

I'm talking aesthetics more than usability. Which do you think is the coolest looking, most fun to swing around, funniest, etc.?

I'd have to say I'm most impressed with spears visually. Yeah, they're fairly straight forward (lawl), but there's a visceral satisfaction in jamming 2 feet of cold steel into your opponent from across the room that other games I've played so far have utterly failed to convey.

Second to them, for me, would be rapiers with their elegant jabs and overall prettiness (especially like that they replace the typical forward+R1 shove with a retreating sword flourish).

Shield bashing and bare fists get an honorable mention for endless the endless entertainment they can provide.

Aesthetically?
Hard to decide, every weapon type in this game is superbly implemented in the combat system. This makes most weapon types look just right. Nothing over the top, just authentic.

I'd say Katana are not only useful, but they really work visually especially if take into account both, the one handed wide horizontal swipes and also the aggressive 2-handed vertical slashes. The half-seconds long stop right after the down-upward slash is just awesome.

Also, agree with the rapiers and especially it's "-> + R1" attack, just elegant.

Same with maces; even if they're more on the "barbaric side", it just feels authentic brandishing them at your opponents shield and watch him having trouble holding his shield straight.

I love the meat cleaver. I'm always changing the camera around to look at it when I'm in an elevator or standing there. It just looks completely awesome; easily my favorite looking weapon in this game, and any other game, actually. I don't like using it all that much though (handy knockdown effect at times though), so I tend to veer towards the 1h weapons more often, but I still love the look.

As far as favorite weapon type for usability, I'm always using the long sword (I know, boring). I love the R2 attack and the R1 is fast, effective and uses little stamina.

I enjoy the Scimitar on my thief, the attacks are quick and damaging. Right now I'm waiting for either the Falchion or until i can upgrade my Scimitar for Dexterity.

best weapon in the game is the spear....i hate it at first before i understood to use it and would get smashed....now im shocked if i even get hit (seriously) + they got...IMO the most bad ass looks, the Istartlle or however u spell it is OMG and the other one that destroys your opponents weapons and armor oh ya...cant wait to get my hands on those and get to pvping

I'll always be a sword fan, regardless of the type. The bastard sword looks pretty sweet, but I also like my broadsword... So I'm not sure hehe.

As of right now, I'd have to say the winged spear. Not only does it looks nice, but it lets you prod opponents from a fairly safe distance.

Yeah there is actually an error there on Atlus's part. At one point Urbain talks about the various hero's that went to meet that one person I can't name on the no spoiler board. One of them was Moon Knight Vito, but in the item description it says the name is Moon Knight Bito.

^_^ it's the typical B/V mistranslation since with Katakana there is no V and a "bi"(ビ) is used to correctly pronounce it. The correct one of the two is Vito. Same error is in the Asian version.

Got a +4 crescent falchon and love it. Added magic dmg with speed & fact that I can guard & strike rules. I also like how magic magnifies dmg on it!

Haven't lost a pvp match yet with it at lvl 80.

I gotta say broadsword is one of my favorites, its nothing special but i like the plain practical look. I have games that over kill weapons thinking everyone wants a swordfish for a sword or when games try to hard to make it look complex and it just looks ####ty, 1 handed swords should not be 8-20 feet long...

Also the knights sword is pretty cool but BS causes bleed and does slash/pierce dmg!

I've found Falcions and Scimtars to be brutally effective with both average speed and average damage.

Rapiers look nice, but I found their attacks limiting since I cant whack away more then one foe at a time. Plus, the whole..needing precision thing...blech.

Just give me something with a wide arc and im good to go.

lol one of my favorite things to do is just go to 1-1 and beat dreglings to death WITH MAH BARE HANDS!

But I too enjoy spears the most. No game has spear combat like Demon's Souls that I know of.

Other than that I like Straight Swords

I wish the "big swords" were a little smaller TBH... Like my favorite sword outside of Demon's souls is the Bastard Sword, but the way they swing it looks like it weighs 50 pounds.

But then I saw why... the claymore and similar weapons are friggin huge.. I would prefer a thinner blade on the claymore.

So far.... DBC is my favorite weapon to use. It's just enjoyable to smack an enemy into the ground.

A close second would be the Bastard Sword.

The reason I don't like the broadsword is the shorter range. More useful in close quarters but in PvP most people use weapons with reach and it is hard to close that gap. Also all the straight swords can pierce but yes, only the broadsword does slash.

Unrelated note here but I have to wonder about people on the forums. From what I read so far everyone who posts here either rarely loses a duel or never loses one. I find that somewhat hard to swallow. I myself am 2 out of 3 so far but I admit I play mostly in soul form because I am very picky on controlling WT right now. Next playthrough I will probably be less finicky.

Yeah finally started new game+ today and have been in body form whole time. My record of 2-1 has quickly become 8-1. There was a couple decent ones in there though, one guy I fought was actually pretty decent with his dozer axe. I think he had my lag on his side slightly though.

Scraping spear is a murderous weapon.. will destroy the other players armor... then finish him off with another weapon ;)!

Favorite weapon so far has been the blessed mace +1, the finishing back attack is just plain brutal with that shot to the knee before splattering brains lol

Funniest weapon i have used/found is definitely when i was caught off guard with my talisman of god out. Using R2 you can use the point to stab lol must have been embarrassing for that knight to get killed by a piece of jewelry !

I got a quick update to make.

I LOVE the halberd. Love it, love it, love it! So far my favorite weapons are the Shotel (for looks,) the Halberd and the Scimitar.

The weapons in this game are just to amazing.

I just love the feel of the battle axes. They feel so heavy to me and that makes the slow bash into somebodies grey matter that much more satisfying.

I love my dagger... its much quicker than other weps. and thats what I like about it. its range though is a little dissapointing. I want something that attacks like a dagger but with just a bit more range... havnt found it yet though.

Spears are amazing. Like someone stated above, DS is the only game in which spears are both cool-looking and effective. My Quality Winged Spear +5 got me where I am now, and I haven't lost ONE normal duel (excluding the Old Monk mess, got me matched with a person double my SL once :mad: ).

Yup, spears rule.

My favorite weapon type is ALL OF THEM! In real life, I'm a pathetic loser that goes by my personal motto, "I'm a jack of all trades, but a master of none." But in the game, since I've been playing for so long (I know 50 hours isn't long, but I learn fast as hell), I've advanced in the combat of all the weapons in the game... There's not one weapon I hate fighting with. Of course, some are harder to kill people with than others, but that's the challenge and the funness. But I do hate fighting against spears... It's rediculous... It's like fighting a turtle with a sharp needle thrusting at me all the time... If everyone starts using spears, the duels will be boring as ####.

That might explain why I entered the fight and got 1 shotted from a normal attack...people at my SL can't one shot me with a back stab.

I'm all for oversized swords, the meat cleaver makes me happy.

I have used a Blessed Mace (now +5) almost exclusively throughout my first playthrough and so far onto my second (I am a Priest with 30+ faith stat, so...). I am actually surprised that I am pwning Black Phantoms with this weapon, most of which have giant swords or other giant weapons. I love blunt weapons (like the mace) for the reason that they are useful for breaking guards, and I don't think they can be parried (at least nobody yet has parried me)

I've also used a Crescent Falchion a lot.

I started loving the curved swords. My Scimitar is prolly my second best weapon after Makoto. Just put on Regenerator's Ring, Adjucator's shield and Makoto to become a beast.

I have a soft spot for Rapier's but I dind the lack of attack area bothersome.

Straight Swords are alright but once again I just prefer the curved weapons, although the Knight Sword looks pretty.

The larger weapons I can do without. I like maneuverability while playing and the Bastard Sword, axes, and bludgeoning weapons don't give me that.

I'm not too big on Spears either. While fun, some of the challenge is gone when you feel so safe in your defense with them.

While not my favorite weapon type...I have to give mad props to the developers for getting spears freaking spot on. Never (in my experience) has a game done justice to spears, either mechanically or visually. Demon's Souls does both. Awesome stuff.

I think the straight swords are my favorite so far. Having the versatility of the R2 peirce attack is great; it's damaging, has good reach, and is a great counter-attack for after dodging an attack. They're probably the least visually appealing to me though, just because they seem so 'ordinary'

The two handed weapons are a tad slow for my taste, despite looking pretty menacing. I love having a shield around too, which limits my desire to use them, both for asethtics and gameplay.

I haven't played much with the curved swords, but they definitely look cool. Mace/morningstar look cool too, can really feel the 'crunch' of their impact. This game's weapons rock, pretty much.

mine is the dragon bone crusher... powerful, cool to look at and just funny as hell to hit people with it and watch them fly across the room
