I think it took him two swings to kill me. Somehow I was able to avoid the first attack, so I did get some damage on him.

Seems to me that it's beatable at that time (don't know if you fight him later, so no spoiley)

Yup, he is totally beatable, just be sure to keep moving. I've beaten him with my two characters.

I hid behind a pillar trying to figure out his attack and he killed me on the 2nd swing. Wow.

Any bonus to beating him? I was doing a fairly good job of running around him when he jumped or sat down on me. That was all she wrote for my tutorial...

Over the course of 6 characters I've beaten him once; that was with a thief. That took a LONG time, let me tell you.

So long as you bear in mind that his range is actually much longer than you'd think it would be, you'll do fine. Going 2-handed with your weapon/using magic if you have it helps immensely as well.

Saw one such video, only took the guy 4-5 mins. to beat him. Took off all his armor to roll around. Briefly saw what happened afterward, but turned it off so I wouldn't be too spoiled.

Tried it last night several times to no avail, need to redouble my efforts.

He is really easy once you have the pattern down, really. The only problem is if you somehow lose the pacing/timing because one hit = most likely death.

From all the 8 characters I have I beat him 7 times with various classes:

1.Take the weapon 2-handed - run towards him
2. Evade his Axe by simply circling him clockwise(under his axe-arm)
3. hack away a few times and repeat
4. If he stops and begins flapping his little wings, just back away a bit till he lands, then go at him again.

You can beat him without even rolling once, if just don't lose timing.

Hope that helped a bit.

After approaching him differently from a royalty character. As long as you put distance between you and him, and stay at his back... it's not difficult.

Pound him with two soul arrows as he stalks towards you heaving that axe/blade... run/dive/roll behind him, two more arrows... repeat, repeat, repeat.

I do know that it's possible to run under his swing, but he was correct, if your timing is off even ever so slightly, you're a bloodstain.

I'm curious... if you come in with the wanders sword, and hack away a few times, any blood loss like common enemies?

I shall have to try.

^^It's possible for Vanguard to loose blood, but he has a way lower chance to inflict him with it.

Magic eats this guy alive. I killed him twice in a row to make sure I could tell others how to do it.

Try to not roll, as it uses stamina.. If you find yourself without stamina you're dead. Only use roll if you absolutely must! Always stay on the move and stay underneath his right arm. Magic eats this guy alive, I had absolutely no problems as a starting Royal. Just remember to step back on his butt slams.

You can bleed him really easy I have done it nearly 10times with the soldiers broadsword and also the first time i fought him in 4-1 i grabbed the Crecent Falchion +1 and first hit made him bleed. which was cool cause when they bleed the damage counter stays up and you can watch it to see how much damage you've done.

Oh, cool. I stand corrected then. Looks like I never was lucky enough to let him bleed that soon...

Tutorial boss is easy to beat. Unequip armor so you can move faster. Stay behind him on his right side. Swing away watching for his wings to start flapping. Walk away from butt drop and keep hitting him. Don't get hit and you're fine.

If you kill him in the tutorial, does he show up in 4-1?
