I was just reading the agreement, and it says that the servers will definitely be up until April 6, 2010 and after that SCE may terminate the service anytime after that. I certainly hope this will be going much longer than that. Of course this doesn't mean they ARE going to cancel it, just that it's possible.
After termination, the online service of the game may no longer be used. I expect this to run for 20 years minimum Atlus/SCE!

What... That's not long at all!

Well, the Asian servers have been up and running since February right? I belive the NA Atlus version will sell much more than the Jap+Asian version combined so there would be no point in closing the servers.

YIKES APRIL 2010??? I might not even have my PS3 by then.
But I think this will sell very well, and they'll have no choice but to keep the servers online. I still don't understand why Sony themselves didn't see the potential in this game. Based on the reviews and internet hype alone, it seems Demon's Souls could break 250,000 copies. Wonder what Atlus USA's expections are?
(OF COURSE THIS DOESN'T MEAN ANYTHING, SEE OKAMI AND GOD HAND)

This....
if they closed the servers as fast as Haze had its useless servers close, I'd be pissed, they gotta keep it up FOREVER DAMNIT.

Crap...what about the people who decide to wait and buy this game after April...They will be missing out on a huge element of the game. Even after I beat the game...(if thats possible)...I plan on jumping in other games to help take souls. Hopefully the fun wont end in April.

This is just a cover. I wouldn't read to much into it. If the community is alive and kicking they wouldn't shut them down.
This is part of what I hate about console gaming online. Someone else contorls your online, no deded servers :(. And once its gone its gone, no user mod casting ress later on.:frown:
But I wouldn't worrry Demon's Souls is gonna do 2x as well over here. Later matched by our brothers overseas. (x3 trophy count:D) Do it!
They just got to keep copies of the game out there. Tough time of year to sell a tough game. Uncharted 2 next week right.......ouch. I'm surprised no ads on tv yet, would do this game some good I think.

I don't think we really have to worry much, but I just hope it runs online for a minimum of 5 years, preferably more.

ya its very very very very annoying....you MIGHT see 3 good games thoughout the entire year....and then when the holiday season hits BAM you are flooded with great titles....and then the not so big name ones that are still amazing games wonder why they dont do near as good as they could have
grow a brain and release games thoughout the year and its better for all....i have not had a SINGLE game really make me want to buy it since SOCOM came out...and thats the truth and that game came out a year ago
i got prototype but it was old within 3 days...same stuff over and over, that was my last singler player only game purchase ever....now online is required for me

I believe this is Atlus USA's reasoning behind doing Limited and Regular editions of the game. The LE will definitely gain value while the Reg could/should eventually become a GH. DS has to be an evergreen title for them, not another niche game.

I think the sales on this title will probably aid Atlus Japan in determining titles for what platform, while the western market isn't their main market, it will at least give them an idea.
Anyways the game is amazing so far. Only died once, but thats because I ran off a cliff lol.
EDIT: Just died now, wow he was strong LOL.

This is why I prefer Xbox Live. This would still happen even if it was on Xbox (assuming it would actually happen anyways). Look at Chromehounds it's going to have it's servers close and it's on 360, Microsoft doesn't pay for the servers to run the game, just the service to connect to it, among other things.

Ahh... Couldn't resist to take a jab at PSN eh? Like others have said, I believe it's more of a precautionary measure on their part, its not like they said it's going to shutdown for sure.

@Pibbman
Don't worry, the Asian version has the same message but with a October 2009 date and well, everyone is still playing the sh*t out of it and I don't think they get shut down by the end of October either... It's just a measure.
This is why I prefer Xbox Live.
*facepalm*
