Me and a couple of my friends are thinking of importing the US version of Demon's Souls (we live in Europe) and I just wanted to know if this game is import friendly? Can I play online without any problems? How's the netcode? Since you can't really play with your friends is there riskt for lag since you'll most probably be playing with people from the US?

Thanks!

so you should be fine playing on American servers.

You might get a bit of lag, but connections from Europe to the US usually aren't bad at all, don't think it will be that big of a problem.

Since you can't really play with your friends

You can, you can, a thousand times you can. You can play with your friends. It just takes some very simple legwork.

I don't know if it's the advertising, or what, but I swear every day people have the wrong idea about how the online co-op functions. Just remember, you most certainly can play with friends, you just have to make sure you meet the requirements beforehand: Remain within 10 levels of each other. The summoner must be in body form, and the ones to be summoned must be in soul form. You can alternate who is alive and who is dead to keep the co-op going. Then, just coordinate where to meet, have the souls place their signs, and have the living player call them. It may seem complex, but it's really not bad at all, it's just not through a menu saying "invite friend."

We really need a "You can too play with friends" sticky. :P

I think this is like the 5th time you have explained this on the atlus site...lol I was one of the 5...Thank you though because now I am explaining it to everyone...I think it has to do with reviews...Gameinformer says you cannot play with your friends but the multiplayer makes up for it...I also read it somewhere else where they say that

I don't blame anybody from EU who imports this game. I'm still a little shocked that its not getting published over there. That sucks... Somebody is dropping the ball on that one.

You should be fine, I know of at least over 100+ spanish people that have pre-ordered this game. Yes it is a big thing there.

Even if it would get published here, I'd still import it. I mean, who comes in question for a EU release? SCEE doesn't have any interest in it so they're out.
Ubisoft? LOL I'd rather buy the Asian version again than Ubi's abomination of "localized" products... The only other publisher in question would be SE which I'm sure that the localization would be okay, but don't expect any free goodies them... No thanks, Atlus is the way to go.

Waaaa? It's not being released in Europe? Wow this is the first time I'm hearing this. :<
That's messed up. I live in the US but still.

One issue with the given situation is that the european player-base will somewhat be separated between the two regions. :/ I know people who already have the asian version ... so that's the one I ordered. I would have gotten the US version if multiplayer features were international. :/

Don't forget the added cost and legalities of a europe release. Their gaming laws are alot different and stricter than the US or Asia's. The european distributors may not see it as having a viable return on investment.

Gamings laws stricter in Europe than the US or Asia's? That's just wrong, maybe in Germany but in every other country that uses PEGI, the difference isn't big.

The reason why some games aren't published here is mostly because the need of localisation. You have to at least make voiceovers/text in German, Spanish and French (maybe Italian) to get game sold. And when game like Demon's Souls is in question I don't see so big markets for it here that it would be profitable. Maybe it would be a success, if From Software would make a new difficulty (easier) for it, but that seems unlikely.

Anyway, I am ordering Demon's Souls from the US. From what I've seen, Atlus has done great job with the Deluxe Edition.

I actually totally forgot about them... Yes I agree that would be a nice possibility. Did they already jump into Blu-ray disc publishing madness?

I Don't know if Atlus can release within europe or if anyone from Atlus will read this, but I prey they do, and please let us UK players connect to the US servers.

Do you guys need a petition? I am sure its selling well in the US. Why are we being deprived of such a good game?

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE release this in the UK. Nuts to europe, just give us UK'ers access.

I'd very much like to see Demon's Souls released for Europe HOWEVER Ubisoft has been ignorent to Deaf & Hard of hearing gamers for subtitles and captions. They couldn't be bothered to provide captions for Assassin's Creed, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell series. :x

I'd prefer to see different publisher to publish Demon's Souls for UK & Europe.

If Atlus won't release Demon's Souls then I'd have to buy US version of Demon's Souls.

So far, it seems that Atlus has got no plans to release Demon's Souls to UK & EU countries. . . . Very disappointing and this means I'll have to get US version of Demon's Souls despite problems getting new game levels, etc from NA servers. . :frown::frown::frown:

There's this general misconception that to release a game in Europe you need to translate it to a zillion different languages (French, Italian, Spanish, ...), as if English isn't widespread enough. I'm Swedish, and I'd never purchase a Swedish Demon's Souls.

I play the US game (at a lack of an EU release). There's some lag. Not unbearably much, but there's constantly some. You won't do any ripostes, that's for sure.

I have ordered two copies of Demon's Souls to import to Northern Ireland from the good ol' USA. The US version was the easiest of the three for me to get my hands on, and the least expensive of the three. I would have bought the Japanese or Asian version were it necessary. But in stepping up to the plate to bring Demon's Souls to the US, Atlus put it on the radar for a lot more people than the Japanese/Asian release would have managed on their own. I only became aware of Demon's Souls after Atlus made some noise about it which in turn 'caused a few websites and magazines to take notice and create further noise.

From Software who created the game deserve the credit. But Atlus deserve a pat on the back for bringing it to the masses. I hope they make a good slice of profit for their troubles, not least from profits so to stick it to the their inept European counterparts.

I feel that the chance may have been missed for a European release. A lot of European sales have now been sold to the import market. And in the coming months a great many more are going to follow suit. By the time a European publisher gets around to snapping the game up, setting a release date, and finally getting it out there, all of the hardcore fans will have imported versions of the game in their consoles, as will a fair share of casual fans of dungeon crawlers/action rpgs. Would there still be enough potential sales to make a profit? Yes. I believe so. But it's all about maximum profit and a lot has been lost already, and more will be lost in the coming months. It's a real shame because the people who are going to suffer are the younger gamers out there who rely on their local stores for their games. The best they can hope for is a UK based online retailer (which they could perhaps convince a parent to trust and order from) to handle the imported versions.

There surely is still hope for a European release, though. The reviews for Demon's Souls are through the roof, right across the board. And perhaps someone will look at the amount of imports and rather than see lost profit, see the potential profit still to be unearthed. And lest they forget that off such success a sequel may impose itself on From Software. Surely a European publisher will want to get in on that act.
