A VG247 said today that Sony has informed developers of plans to incorporate cross-title voice chat in PS3 play by the end of October.
The feature will be added in Firmware update 3.10, we were told.
Cross-title chat is consistently one of the most asked-for features on PS3 - looks like Sony's ready to deliver.

My question is.....would you use this while playing Demon's Souls now....? It'd ruin the experience for many, for sure. Though am sure many whiners would want this, but am also sure many would love this if their friends aren't experience-ruining idiots who just want to help find eachother to cooperatively play...

What is your take on this, would you use it on Demon's Souls, or not?....

I just don't use it. But I hope it won't come until most of the new players already got a hold of Demon's Souls' online functionality, just so they experience for themselves that there's a reason why FROM didn't include any form of communication in the game.

Personally I never use voice chat anyway unless I am playing with people I know. Since almost all my friends who do chat/multiplayer gaming don't own PS3's well... *shrug*.

Once I get into the game and experience at least one play through the right way it might be nice to chat with some other more... mature fans of the game like you guys! I imagine most of the kiddies won't make it very far on this one anyway.

I don't have a headset anyway and even if I had one I'm gonna concentrate on enjoying this game as it's intended to.

I would use voice, but I won't complain if it's not added.

Yeah same. I think for a game like this, that's challenging I will most likely not talk to much, unless I'm dropping F bombs everywhere.

Haha, That's it exactly! Imagine the mess if people get slaughtered by skilled invading-BPs left and right. xD

Isn't the idea of cross-game chat to allow users the ability to talk with their friends? I mean, I'd have to send out an invitation for chat, my friend would have to accept it. It's not like everyone playing the game would hear us, nor the ones I choose to invade or invite into my world, unless I invite them to the chat as well. I would say the annoying chatters would only become a problem for games that supported a continuous chat feed for multiplayer, like Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, not Demon's Souls.

xbox party system, soon as this came out my online expierience was destroyed to the point I gave up and sold my 360's. Every game you join in call of duty everybodys in a party except for the 12yr old singing into the mic. I hated how every minute a friends inviting you to chat. I hope they dont add this to PS3. For sure they need to avoid the party system, I enjoy meeting new people in games.

For demons souls it would indeed ruin the game expierience. You would also have the guy, "can i have this plz, plz" every other game lol Game requires you to pay attention as it is.

Until I hear more specifics, it would be jumping the gun to claim that this feature will "ruin the game experience". I mean, do we even know if the feature will allow players to chat with strangers?

Wha? Why are so many people talking like this is some online weird feature.....it's damn just simply, being able to voice with a friend or more on your PSN list WHILE playing a game......so, wtf is everyone talking about? rofl

Yeah, its not an in-game voice chat. Its for people that want to have a private chat w/ their friends or other things.

I'm Anti-Voice chat myself, but having the option to talk to any friend of yours on PSN i don't think has much to do with DS. Besides, if four of us are trying to group together, voice chat could be very helpful in organization, we don't have to destroy/spoil the game to use it.

Also, it would be nice to be able to talk to some friends playing other titles, sort of like a phone conversation.

But, I agree with the poster above about the 12 year old singing and cursing, WHY DON'T DEVELOPERS JUST INCLUDE AN OPTION TO MUTE VOICE CHAT PERIOD!!!!! You can't even mute individuals in some games anymore!!!

From the sound of it, it'll only work with people who're listed on your PSN Friends List. If you don't want to talk when you're on Demon's Souls, you shouldn't have to be. However, it could be a great way to get people together for some co-op, or working out a strategy against a boss. I mean, the bowing emote can only convey so much.

The bow emote is way more awesome than any voice-chat function could ever be. Know your place.

I'll bow, right before I backstab you while you're knee deep in monsters. :D

Someone never played FFXI in a full party of Japanese players. That bow emote is EVERYTHING. It answered questions correctly, even if you didn't know what the question was! It was freaking amazing!

They are correct though, if it is similar to the Xbox Live party system it is based off inviting friends into a chat room and none of you have to be playing the same game.... or even playing a game at all. It would help a number of people organize co op sessions though and you can always just not invite the singing 12 year old :)

If it's anything like the Xbox Live party system I could see it being used if you have a group of blue phantoms and want to coordinate so no one screws up....But at the same time with PUGs (pick up groups) some might not want to listen to good advice( or anything at all) and if you are the person helping, you might run into some pretty stupid advice....so it's kind of a double edged sword. Personally I think it's better with no mics; there's no help/spoilers and no smack-talk, but at the same time I can see how it might be useful.

Not going to be much Smack Talk if you can only be in chat with people on your friends list...
Positive for me.

Thing is in a game like this where groups are pretty random, you might find yourself inviting people onto your friends list just to get into chat.

It would be cool if you can invite people not on you friends list. Anyways, I would just add people and remove them afterwords, but if they were cool and we "clicked" i guess you can say i would keep them.

If voice chat is added, I might use it if people I play with request it.

Might be a good way to make friends, and who knows..you hop on voice chat...person your with is a toddler on smack, might make you a little more cautious because your partner is pants on head mental.

Could have it's advantages :P

I know I won't be using voice chat when it comes out, mainly because I loathe headsets (I wear one all day at work). Also, not owning a PS3 headset may contribute to that.

im from SOCOM and im used to every single person who plays the game having a mic.....in respawn nobody cares but in the real games if people dont have mics they get booted out of the room, i guess this had made me highly value the communication

but also where this game doesnt play like socom i can also understand not wanting to talk as it might not be as important or game breaking in demon's souls, however due to my roots im all for communication......i have gathered that this game does have voice chat with the people you are playing with.....is it just an open mic sort of game or push to talk or how is that? also can you talk to the people that you pvp with?

The only in-game communication is through hint-messages, and emotes(You can also use the XMB chat). There is no voice chat at all. This thread is more talking about the future addition of voice enabled chat-rooms, allowing you to talk with friends regardless of game, and thus, letting you make rooms for your Demon's Souls teammates. Essentially, a voiced version of the XMB chat. Until then, though, be aware that you cannot voice chat in Demon's Souls at all.

THIS.

Period.

I saw a lot of CONFUSED people at the start of the thread, I facepalmed a lot honestly since many were clueless as to what kind of feature this 'in-game/cross-chat' was.

But, ya.....it's optional, but there who wanna talk cooperatively with friends while cooperating in the game, lol.

The other thing, is it would make organizing PvP tournaments a lot easier, being able to talk to everybody in the tournament within a party, rather than trying to message everyone separately.

Honestly there are a ton of uses for this feature...even aside from this game.

The big thing here should be options. The only way to keep your gamers happy is to give them options. Me personally, a game like demon souls which requires so much strategy, a headset would be a god send. Yes this means people will beat your game, but isnt that the point. Let people finish it so word of mouth gets out and you ummm sell more copies! Especially while its hot on the market. Include an option to mute players and presto, you now keep those who dont want chat happy as well. The sad story is, is that sony NEEDS to have this and custom soundtracks on board. Microsoft has been doing this forever! I love my PS3 over any other machine on the market, but if your gunna be the best you got to show the best. I'm hoping this will be implemented soon!:p

meh i just use skype to talk on demons souls, i like communication same roots as ice pick over there id rather chat with friends than idiots asking me where i got this or that item anyway (which they'll still send me a message regardless)
