View Full Version : Roleplaying?

In one of the reviews that I read for Demon's Souls, the writer mentions how important it is to get wrapped up in the spirit and atmosphere of the game, and to play your character accordingly. More or less.

I was wondering. Aside from just picking a class, running around and killing things, has any (or does anyone plan to) incorporate some other details into their characters? Whether it's the sort of character you play (sticking to certain weapons, spells and strategies), or actually coming up with a personal little story to wrap yourself up in.

I had this idea a while back to try and create a younger looking version of King Allant and name him Young King Allant. But that's just me.

Unfortunately, no chin hair available in the character creation options. Haha!

Not much i can say other than, you will become very attached to your character, so make sure you're happy with their appearance - you'll be spending many an hour looking at them. ;)

I'm totally going to do so!

I am wondering now how many characters can your name be. I'm also going to spend a lot of time with the character customization

It doesn't matter what 'name' you give your character - if you drop a soul sign or summon another player, they will only see your PSN tag.

Good news is; multiplayer experience is accumulated from all four of your saves, not just one character.

p.s. All of my female characters are pretty good looking, but my latest is definitely the one! So-much-so, i've had players message me over PSN, commenting on her being quite a distraction. ;)

Roleplaying in game will basically be impossible since there literally is no in game means of communication besides emotes. However if some fan sites emerge I wouldn't be surprised if some took a RP bent and allowed for posting of character bio's, or RP forums, and other things of that nature. I will definitely work up some form of "concept" for my character at the very least.

Huh, thats cool. Weird, but cool. I don't usually pay attention to what my character looks like in video games (except in Oblivion, where I made my character glow light blue) but I guess in Demon's Souls I will play around with it more than usual.:p

Ok so what about when you aren't on multiplayer? (as in not using the soul signs) How long can your character's name be?

Also, can you choose different races for your character? As in Caucasian, Hispanic, Asian, African America? I hope so.

At least i think i can have a little story going on in my head as i play.

Well there is no such thing as "races" in this game, a human is a human. But yeah you can change your skin tone from what I have seen.

Character name max length lies somewhere between 10-16 characters, can't remember the exact length.
Something like "Young King Allant" won't fit but if you cut a bit short you can do names including surname.

Young Allant it is then.

If you play online, the game forces you to roleplay by not allowing communication (cept emotes) :) It's actually brilliant if you ask me. Apart from the odd exception, most blue ghosts will aid their human counterparts, and most invading phantoms will kill their host. It's exactly what they wanted to add to the game. Brilliant.

Well, varies on how I feel the gameplay will be, I'll be Mounce.

Probably a 'Good guy', Wanderer class, but, typically be a normal nothing-special Mysterious Hero who's on a quest :| Quiet, skillful with a blade, and is honest, loyal, dependable, and protects his friends with his life. One that'd desire to be known in history! A savior, a guardian of all.

Cunning and speedy like a fox too :p ....

I just love the Lone-Hero types, especially for characters like Gattsu from Berserk.....they have a huge and painful past, but are on an adventure that slowly but surely, leads them to save the world, undertaking the pain and protecting the innocent and his friends with his skill.

I'm just a big From Software fan (and/or geek) and I apparently have too much spare time at work :)

To ZomDizae: Too kind!
