Finally, a 2D HD fighter that isn't Street Fighter 2!

& some guy named Bang Shishigami. Sorry I couldn't find any decent pics, but he looks like Black Star from Soul Eater.

Anyone else disappointed by the character selection? They all seem so generic compared to Guilty Gear's characters.

Gen Eric Gui

I think they're pretty similar to GG's cast. Then again, I've played GG for so long most of the characters don't wow me that much anymore.

I thought they looked really similar to GG's characters. I like the cat girl and the vampire chick. I never thought GG's characters were particularly memorable other than justice, dizzy and maybe bridget.

The only character I like thus far is the cat girl, and we all know how much that means coming from me. I don't think the designs are really that bad, they just look sort-of generic... Like typical anime garbage. They really seem to lack that genuine, bizarre feel a lot of the original Guilty Gear characters had.

A lot of the characters also seem to retain eerily similar characteristics from the older cast, too. Did they run out of ideas or is there some deeper connection going on? Out of the initial characters shown when it was first announced, I can recall a Sol, Ky, and Potemkin look-alikes, only transformed to look more trite.

The old GG cast seemed to flow naturally and came out really original and fresh, where this new cast looks like they're trying too hard. They seem uninspired and pretentious. What's the point of even making a new game if they're just sticking old designs in a blender anyway? It's clear most (if not all) of the characters are made to resemble older ones in certain aspects.

I don't know, I'm not saying it's going to be awful, I'm just worried over the character design. Two of my friends who are long-time Guilty Gear fans (one of them owning every soundtrack and game) share this feeling, too.

I like the Shy Guy shinigami thing. The vampire girl looks like the younger sister from Rosario + Vampire, or Death Note Maria. Then there's the Chinese girl taken from Arcana Heart.

I don't mind this cast. One-armed Kenshin from Guilty Gear was kinda weird.

I just hope that they made improvements on the gameplay. Not that I'm saying that GG was bad, in fact, I love GG. It's just that if they're planning to come up with a new fighting style, I just hope that it won't suck.

Decided to join just now so I could make a "Game Suggestion", unfortuently I cannot because, I assume I have no post count.. (*Coughs* dammit).

So plan B.. hopefully one of you guys in this thread will make a game suggestion for BlazBlue.

Just finished reading an article over at
http://kotaku.com/5164310/more-2d-fighting-comes-to-ps3-xbox-360-with-blazblue

Quote : "Guilty Gear developers Arc System Works dropped BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger in Japanese arcades last November. Today, a console port has been announced, with the 2D fighting game coming to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

The latest issue of Famitsu Weekly breaks the news that BlazBlue will make the jump to consoles this Summer. So far, that's only for the Japanese audience. Failing a North American or European localization—which we're assuming someone will be smart enough to pick up—an import may be in order.

1UP's recount of the Famitsu story notes that the home version of BlazBlue will add a substantial single-player story mode, one touted to take 30 hours to complete.

The game will also get a boost from its arcade version with full online multiplayer support, downloadable content and an animated sequence from anime studio GONZO."

I immediatly thought of atlus when I looked at some of the concept art. And really hope this game is localized state side when possible.

(If there had been a suggestion thread for the game I would have posted there, but this seemed as good a place as any to start)

Anyways Thanks for the time.

Confirmation link (http://www.aksysgames.com/2009/03/04/blazblue-announced-for-north-america-bs/) of domestic release for anyone who cares. I just hope they don't make the mistake of trying to sell it for $60. Ugh, so I did not read. I thought when I pre-ordered in-store with it saying premium package, that it meant the artbook would come with it. Yea, I was wrong. Now I have to cancel since its an online-only bonus. I hope this doesn't start a trend. I would hate that. At least I caught my mistake before being disappointed.

EDIT - Actually, I disappointed myself anyways. As of 5/5 at 2:30 pm PST, I was unable to take advantage of the online pre-order bonus. I was waiting until 5/8 when I get paid to purchase it, but now I am too late. Apparently the artbook will be super limited. Bah sad sad sad face.

Ah Blazeblue, spiritual successor to Guilty Gear. First things first, the post above seems like he kind of double posted but once I get my PS3 I'll hit you up for a match.

I have been keeping an eye on this game for a while now since I am a fan of the Guilty Gear series since GGX. Now we get this game under the same people who made GG and it is just as crazy as it's predictor. Same high end 2D sprites not found in most fighters, kick-ass rock music that puts some fighting games themes to shame, a unique fighting system that is difficult to master and art-style and characters that are start out of an crazy anime. Speaking of which, I would have loved if they had an anime movie of this much like this vid here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zeiBTSOgUK8). ( with a better dub in it:p) Fortunately Blazeblue looks to have all that and then some.

For those who haven’t saw it yet this is the first video of the US version (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8hQ9dEqUEg&feature=related). I find it interesting that they decided to dub this one. Hopefully they turn out to be good, even if it isn't this still has dual audio. I'm not kidding that this is one of my favs in fighters. (though I am a fighter fanatic:D) I am found of the style and music of the game; I even made a little video tribute of GGX. Blazeblue from the looks of it seems to have every thing GG had and more. And I must say the music is as rocking as ever, here is a good rendition of one of BB's songs here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZ91YNM-Lq4).

@Decept, about the artbook with the Limited Edition, I saw the artbook pre-order at my gamestop a week or two ago (also the first I found out that it even had an artbook) despite it says here (http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?Product%5FID=74492) that is for Online Customers only. I'll check it out over the weekend to see if it’s still around, and if it is I'll pre-order it even tough I am working to buy a new PS3. (did the same thing for DMC 4)

Between this and KOF XII (and later in the year TVC) it is a good time to be a fighting game fan. :D

[EDIT] Ok, now I'm really confused. The online site says it's a 32 page artbook now, but it still says it'll be online only. . . but the ads in Gamestop say you can get the artbook in store as well. What is going on???

Oh man, let me tell you a tale on the artbook! 3 of us reserved at Gamestop, then cancelled to reserve online and pick up at store. Well, that apparently does not get you the 100 page artbook. So all 3 of us then reserved it online to be shipped. A little while ago they announced in store reservations get a 32 page artbook. Since our little trio all have an instore and online copy reserved, you can bet we're grabbing both artbooks! Now I just need to return one of the copies. . .

I didn't know the online artbook was limited! How can you tell if you'll receive it or not?

I went out today to find out once and for all about the artbook thing and here is what I found out. From what I understand that the pre-order for the artbook is for both in store and online. The book is 32 pages and will arrive close to the time that its released.(maybe a day or two before the release date.) And last that there is no mention of a 100 page book for in store or online because the limited edition version is the same as the standard one. (that can mean that either the 100-page book is a misprint or it is a separate thing all together) I pre-ordered mine today and grabbed Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus while I was there. (and thank goodness I did because I just heard that it got discontinued and it was the last one they had) Even though this is more of the same game as before it does feature a soundtrack giving off a farewell tribute to the GGX team as the new BB team takes over.

I have now the latest video of Blazeblue console version that features the OP, some gameplay and to my surprise some voices. Turns out that both versions will have dual languages in it. Well got a few weeks to wait, till then later.

[EDIT]After watching the intro a few times, I feel that it is more close to an anime than the GGX2 vid was. I wouldn’t be surprised if Blazeblue gets and anime series in it (like how Valkyria Chronicles got one) and hope that it would be good. But my wish is if Guilty Gear gets at least an OVA to celebrate its 10th anniversary.

This is straight up the coolest fighting game I've played in a very very long time. And here I thought that the new King of Fighters would be the best! With each character in Blazblue being so unique, it's hard to not find someone you enjoy playing as! I wrote up a few quick responses about the game over on my page if anyone's interested! Hopefully videos will follow suit once I get some more stuff up and running.

By the way, how are the controls like? It's just that the paper sheets on the machine are in Japanese.

I think that is who I am going to pick to be my main.

I like how every character has different controls. It looks and sounds amazing. You can string together some pretty crazy combos just like guilty gear. It has a lot to remember like most fighting games, but I love how every character feels unique when it comes to their drive mechanic.

I want a fightstick, but it is so hard to justify the price.

Damnit, I went last week to check on the art book that was "supposed" to be in stores as well as online. I checked it out on the day it was released at gamestop and they said it was online only. I told them that they advertised it in their stores and they agreed, so I waited Friday. I came Friday and "to my surprise" no art book shipped in stores. So in the end I just bought it and forgot about it, but the manger tried to find another artbook instead for the mistake. (the store knows me for being one of there better customers and try to hook me up when they can)

Anyway I want to say how good the game was but I had to buy it before I got my new PS3. So this is the second game I bought with no unit, first being DMC4. (I can't even see the movie guideline disc because it's blu-ray):frown: But I can play the two disc soundtrack to keep hold me over, I must say it is just as awesome as the rock music from Guilty Gear. But it needs two things, one is the anime OP song shown in this Astral Finish montage (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNZ8AnK3Mss) and the other is BANG BANG BANG BANG! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPMr-cYb6Vc)

My copy finally got here in the mail today, about to play it in a little while. :)

I preordered the game online at Gamestop. Just picked up my copy today.... And NO artbook. Is there any way I can still get this without paying obscene amounts for it? :(

EDIT: Got one for around $40 from someone I knew. Way better than paying $90. X.X

Haven't gotten to playing the game yet, but I love the V/A list. ;)

I'm glad I'm not the only one that has skipping in my soundtrack. Guess I'd better hunt down the mp3 to the Japanese soundtrack if there is any. Well I'm just glad "Imperial Code" and "Awakening the Chaos" doesn't have any skipping.

That would suck.
One theory attributed to the skipping is that it actually skips in-game. I had a good laugh at that one.
Rather than remain a whiney fan, I'm gonna save up for the Arcade and Consumer OSTs. A lot of excellent pieces were over looked between those two albums.
Btw, what is everyone's opinion of the remixes?
They were okay, but out of place IMHO.

Meh, don't care about the remixes. *Listens to more "Awakening the Chaos"*

Well I'll be importing the European version. Though it would be cool if the additional content was added on the PSN. Maybe I should see if they come out there before I drop the money on the game again, not that it wouldn't be worth it.

There's no way the characters are going to be completely exclusive. At worst it's going to be a timed exclusive, and other regions will get the characters and updates as DLC for a couple bucks.

There's also a chance the "new characters" will just be unlimited versions of characters already in the game, in which case I don't care.

Making new characters available via DLC would be a really stupid move. Your basically dividing players into two groups, those who can download new characters, and those who can't.

But leaving those character out is even more stupid, because the servers for the game are global(The whole point was to have the entire world unified on one network to get all the players together into one community), and any extra characters that the Euro version would have would be defunct and unselectable online, making them effectively worthless. If they decide to update movesets, the Europeans would be unable to use any of the changes, and would have to play a completely different game online.

Honestly, the best move is to make them free DLC, because it's the only way to ensure that everyone is on a level playfield. And if people can't download from their houses, well, I can't and I still have Braid and Castle Crashers, so they can find a way.

As far as titles in the fighting genre go, adding new characters and new movesets essentially makes it a different game anyway. That is, the difference between Guilty Gear X2 and Guilty Gear X2 Accent Core.

Wow, it didn't take long for Arc System Works to annouce out the sequel to Blazblue: Callamity Trigger.
BlazBlue: Continuum Shift definately sounds more creative than simply BlazBlue: Callamity Trigger 2.
I guess I better complete the story mode...

I hope they keep Hakumen's hop animation.
EDIT: Just came back from Dustloop forums with some scans from the Famisitu article. I'll avoid posting huge images like last time and just leave the links...
