I'm sorry if this question has been before, but a few cursory searches here, and with teh Google haven't provided a definite answer...
Anyone know if Demon's Souls will support 1080i resolution? I have a crappy old TV that only does 480p and 1080i, and damn if games don't look ugly in 480p. I've got the collector's pre-ordered, and the answer doesn't change anything... I'd just like to know. :)

Works upscales to 1080p as well, same as most PS3 games. Your TV should be fine.

Well, if you go to the PS3's Video settings, you could just, make it so only 1080p is listed as the resolution you wish to use, and etc.
It will upscale it to the nicest quality, or should at least.

Thanks Quig - looks like my fears are confirmed, unless something changes (or has changed since that image was given to GameStop).
@MooglePies & Mounce: It's my understanding that the PS3 doesn't do upscaling to unsupported resolutions. Take Rock Band, for example; it supports 480p and 720p. If I alter my video settings so I only accept 1080i, the game won't play. There's no upscaling support whatsoever.
It's up to the developers to add support for 1080i, and that support is spotty at best. :(
Here's a thread that talks about this issue in a little more detail, and has a list of games with the resolution that they support. http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=ps3&message.id=1543717#M1543717
I guess I'll just be stuck in crappy 480p. I usually don't get games that don't upscale, because they almost always look horrrrrible (with the exception of Valkyria Chronicles - can't tell the difference there, thanks), but Demon's Souls is a must-buy, regardless.

Are you using a CRT or a LCD TV? If it's the former, Demon's Souls is one of the few "HD" games that doesn't look as ugly as one might think.
In fact it looks quite good on a CRT, minus the readability of the item-text of course.

It's a rear projection CRT. My fingers are crossed on it not looking ugly. ;P
I could live with the standard blurry text, if the graphics still look sharp...

Yeah this reminds me when Naughty Dog (developers of Uncharted, Jax and Daxter) found out that most older HDTV sets only support 1080i, and because of that there would be problems.
They actually took the time to make sure the game supports 1080i, all for those people who have the issue like Ssylex does. Anyways, while it doesn't apply to me, it gave me massive respect to them for doing something like that when they didn't even have too really.
In any case, hopefully things go well for you OP.

Thanks for the hopes. In all fairness, my TV is behind the curve, and I've planned on replacing it for awhile, but, the economy being what it is, I'm putting it off till next summer. I've been content to stick to PSP games, but the PS3 has such a rediculously awesome line-up of content coming from September on, that I'm somewhat considering having it take an accidental fall and blaming it on the cats.
Sounds feasible, right? The lady of the house can't help but authorize a TV replacement if her cute fuzzy kitties are responsible...

i feel your pain, man my 50" RP just went. So this is what I did...I moved our 27" in, and blurred the calibration. Then I acted like I wanted to watch her favorite movie. Once she saw how that looked compared to the ole 50"...let's just say I'm a proud owner of a 50" plasma now. CHA-CHING:D do whatcha gotta do

Actually this is a great time to buy if you have the cash. The prices are dropping because people aren't buying and you can easily get good deals at reasonable prices. I even saw a special on a 42" 1080p that was something like 700 dollars a couple weeks ago. One or two years ago that would have been unheard of.

She's one of those that would be just as happy watching TV on a 13" SDTV. There's no reasoning with that. ;)

Yikes. I feel your pain.
I'm actually considering using my computer LCD display... 26" and HDMI... but it seems silly to hook up a monitor in my living room. Put it on the coffee table, maybe? I'm not willing to move the PS3 to another room (major cable headache), or lose surround sound.
Ugh. Fingers continue to be crossed that 480p looks hot. ;D

A 26" LCD will look just fine, especially with HDMI. Hell I used to watch tv on a 28 inch tube television....
