View Full Version : Challenges are cool but this is absurd (Final battle - MAJOR SPOILERS)

Ok, I'm at the final battle (I guess is the last one and I'm hoping it is 'cause it's tiring to fight what you think is the "last battle") and I don't know which path I'm playing (until now, I've never felt like reading what happens in each path and which is which) but I'm going for the king of Bels fighting againts Babel, having in my party: Atsuro, Yuzu, Mari, Amane, Keisuke and Midori. The thing is... Why making this battle so d*mn frustrating? Really, I kept yelling curses over and over again, because I felt like the battle was unfair.
I feel like this battle it's absurd because you have to fight all the Bels AGAIN in the same fight. I didn't have problems with many of them, but since I didn't knew this was coming, all my characters were in a really bad shape by the time I defeated Babel and then all the Bels appear again? o.O Fighting my way one by one wasn't to much of a challenge (but my SP and demons were being wipe out really fast) and when I get to Belberith with his ability to regain HP and SP at the end of the turn, it was the end for me and my patience. I needed to turn off the console before I threw it out the window (and since it's not mine, that would be like a double fail).
I don't know you, but I barely have time to play now a days, and I get this kind of battles!? This means that I'm going to play Devil Survivor when I clear my mind and decide to try again. And that means, more time I will lost to finish a game (and I have another bunch of videogames in my "to play list", being P4 and DevilSummoner 2 two of them). Like the title says, challenges are cool and all (I always like to play all the games in the hardest difficulty, if possible, at my first playthrough) but this is beyond absurd, imo. I felt like I was playing MegaMan all of a sudden...
Anyway, just wanted to express myself with this thread @_@ Any of you encountered the same problems with this battle? But I'm not denying, with this thread, that this game is ***ing awesome!!! I love it :D
(note that I don't know if there's another demon I have to fight after Belberith, probably yes, so I'm hoping it ends with the dead of all the Bels)

I'm gonna be honest, I pussied out at that battle and never played the game again since. I also think it was pretty awesome overall but I guess it was on to greener pastures after that defeat. Hell I haven't even beat Devil Summoner 2 yet.

Megaman is easy, dude. It's just memorization.
And it sound like you took Amane's path (The path you're on is the person you chose to talk to at the end of day 6) which is the hardest path in the game. My only advice is to pace your spell castings so that you don't run out of steam by the final boss rush. I mean, from what you've said here you only tried the battle once; the fact that this is new to you is actually really impressive, as a lot of people were forced to fight the bosses in this game many times to overcome them.
If you got that far, you can finish it. Just rethink your strategy; you know what's coming, so prepare for it. Buy a bunch of extra demons so you have lots in reserve, equip spells like Drain and the passive skills that regen your SP, and try it agian.

The fight wasn't hard for me (well, I was at a decent level too, with skills to protect against physics, and some elemental dances equipped), but I feared I would fail near the end... Actually, I was going to win (the boss having a matching weakness with a team full of the force skills), but the ailments got me... Well, it didn't kill my teams, but ta-daaam! A freeze happened juste before Kaido's turn. The next time I tried, I used the suspend save (this was the first time I used this function), and I'm glad I did, because I must have had another 3-4 freezes before being able to win.
This freeze is obviously ailments-related (like stated in another topic), and this can get reeeally annoying. -_- Thanks god, it isn't that much of an issue for the whole game...

Well, after a week or so, I finally decide to try again and yes... I beat the game :D I totally enjoy it from start to finish. I hope this is like the best ending one can achive 'cause I most say goodbye to this borrowed DS.
Thanks Atlus for making cool games like this one *o* Now I hope I can borrow again the DS or buy one, because Strange Journey is coming.

It took me two tries to win the final battle on Amane's route. I found it was a good idea to have single high damage skills and the dance skills to give more damage. Force dance was vital to winning the final battle. What demons and skills are you using? MP recovery skills are good to have too, because you'll more than likely be close to running out during the battle against the Bels again.

I didn't rely much on SP this time. Since the MC was the strongest one in the party, I equiped him with Pierce and Death Bound. Hiting, almost twice a turn, between 200 and 400 points of damage. The other characters were figthing against the other demons while the MC was busy with Babel. Then, when fighting the Bels, all the characters were supporting/healing the MC.. And finally, against this "Dark" Babel, the MC was the only one standing and luckyly I was able to barely defeat him. Everyone else were wiped out by the time Babel appeared.
The MC's party was, Take Mikazuchi and this yellow, fire-like demon (I can't remember his name, I guess is Ukano Mitama). I used this demon to cast Shield All and Diarahan every time my MC was low on HP. And was able to attack twice due to the Double Up of Take Mikazuchi, he was also equiped with a Death Bound skill. And I let Yuzu and Amane as healers, resurrecting and healing every time a character/demon was down.

How do you fuse a Black Frost? I defeated him, but I never saw him in my fuse list.
You don't fuse Black Frost; if you see the right events and then choose to help him protect demons from the humans, he'll join you and take a slot in your party as if he were another human tamer, not a demon.

I finished Atsuro's path the other day, and I was pretty amazed at how ridiculously hard the King's Gate form was. I beat him with Midori surviving off Endure, and she was the last character alive. And I was pretty high level too, upper 60s. Fortunately, it taught me a lot about the series in general, and I really liked the way it handled fusion. I'd already beat SMT I, but now I feel like I actually understand the battle mechanics.

I didn't find the final battle hard at all. All you need is a good set of skills, I guess. It was kind of annoying though, fighting all the Bels again...
^The fusion part was really awesome. I had such fun fusing :D.

I haven't beat this game yet, as I am on the Last Day of my 1st play (18:00pm ).
I have to fight Angels at Shimonge because of the diversions that Naoya suggested.
** Eventually Izuna and Amane come in to kick my ass, but they aren't so bad, if you kill Amane 1st, because she Recarns the fallen angels, but Izune does a lot of damage.
I just hate how the two bosses on the other side of the grid, who both use Purged Light, drain my mana by 20-40 mana on each character, so afterwards I have to have Mana Aid or I'm just not gonna enough to defeat them since they have regain their health and are immune to physical.

well keisuke died, so i think this might be Atsuro.
There is Sariel & Anael on the left side of the screen.
--> 2 Kazfiel and 2 Aniel groups close to me.
P.S there was a typo, i'm on the last day (16:00pm) Shibuya Battle to reach the Electric Museum.
This is after the fight I had with Loki, disguised as Gigilo from before, knowing about the King of Bel.

I finally beat the game and Yuzi's icon appeared on my title screen, and I was around lv63 having leveled about 6-7 levels, i know it's a little nuts, but oh well.
I'm on my 2nd playthrough now unlocking Remiel, and going onto it on the weekend.

i've gone through everyone's path but haru/gin i'm all prepped to take down lucifer next time i get to day 7. i have hecate (89) loki (96) and astaroth (91) set for tyrant lock and all demons have recarm + holy dance or deathbound/pierce. i kind of don't want to beat the game again though just cause then i will have absolutely nothing left to do except for grinding to lvl 99 for the hell of it.
my first playthrough was naoya's route and i don't remember having any problems with the final fight... i had MC with hecate and bishamon (for double up), yuzu with astaroth and behemoth, midori with norn and murmur, and i cant remember what atsuro had.... he never actually got to attack XD

Here I thought I was bad off getting mine handed to me by Jezabel. Looks like I'll be needing to grind lots. That, that does not sound fun at all. Specialy as I've only got one place to grind. I dont look forward to this now.

Here, I may be able to give you a little bit of help: I was on Naoya's route, (Which i quit because of belzaboul) But go on YouTube and look up SMT: Devil Survivor Jezebel. You may not get the route you're on, but hey, it worked for me. Within the same day I looked it up, THE FALL OF JEZEBEL!!!! Good luck!

No problem. It just makes me happy to help someone DESTROY A BEL!!!!!!! But if you need help on the next one, don't ask. By the way, what path are you taking?

Not sure but everything looked to match up with what ever path they were going. Atleast, all the dialog was spot and so was the charcters. Starting to hate angels with a pashion and regreting siding with them.

Yeah, that sounds like Amnes path to me. Annnnnnnnnd I have started to hate angels too, which is why I'm going down Yuzu's path this time. Then I'm gonna kill every one with super powerful demons like a certain demon that fights you because you try to escape.

The final fight was super super easy. I realy should learn to be more bold. Guess that's what + game will be for. Just need a few more passive skills and most of the third group to have em all. Guess it helps that I learned a killer party mix.

Amane's path was pretty easy..
MC with Holy Dance = easy win.
But I guess that only really works when you build your MC as a caster. The only possible issue is running out of resources, which shouldn't be too hard.

Does what your MC can do change depending on your path or how you administer skills? Because I had this super strong MC once, and then he could only use by that time useless spells (bufu. Not mabufu, not bufudyne, not mabufudybe, just bufu. And weak skills similar to that).

Giving your MC atleast 16 in all the atts should give him the means to cast almost anything. Tyrants are also a good team up though most have a weakness to fire. Loki's a good pick as he's got anti-all.

I just beat the game. Naoya's route. Babel fight at the end. My party's levels were 59-61.
My frist trick was to attack Babel's initial form with guys who had Pierce and Drain/Reflect Phys, and just punch him to death. It was over quickly.
My most important trick was to use Blood Wine after Jezebel appeared to restore my party's MP. Power was my only divine, so that strategy eventually failed against Belberith's infinite range. (Belberith attacked and did 2000 damage to Power. I laughed and focused on completing the battle with my remaining MP.) A stronger Divine like Aniel should do better.
Having at least one null, drain, or reflect for each attribute on each team greatly reduces the bosses opportunities for extra turns and lets you squeeze in extra damage to overcome their lifegain effects.
Weaknesses are typically instant death and a free turn for the boss. Never use weaknesses against a particular bosses skills. Return those demons and summon something better if available. If nothing is available, a team of two is better than a team of three with a weakness.
It was also helpful having a good mix of single-target elemental skills available to hit weaknesses and gain/remove extra turns. I was actually using the Magnetite bonuses to downgrade skills from Maziodyne to Ziodyne, for example. The single-target ones are better in the later battles because of their lower cost and the high amount of drain/null/reflect attributes on the enemies.
Lots of physical attackers with Pierce (and sometimes Deathbound) was the final piece of my strategy. These guys were able to consistently lay down lots of damage and I didn't have to worry about their MP. (Typically just Media after a fight)
I'd recommend these strategies for anybody who is stuck at the end.
