Can I buy weapons for use in battle? I got to the 'Junk Store' and only am able to buy stones. No weapons?

No, Nocturne does away with the unnecessary fluff found in most RPGs and maintains a good balance without the player going through the "new town, upgrade my gear" ritual that artificially adds hours to the play time of other games.

The various Magatama do affect your stats in various ways and could be thought of like equipment. However, the choice of which one to use, which is obvious in most RPGs, is not so black and white in Nocturne. The magatama affect which skills you learn, what stat boosts you get, and what your resistances and weaknesses are, so your choice of Magatama is an important strategic decision that can have short-term and long-term consequences.

I like fluff :very_sad:

Cant say I wasn't a bit disappointed when I couldn't have a big gnarly sword.

But I love that part in RPGs...I'm always sad when I get to a midtown in RPGs with no equipment or spells to buy. :[ Point is, I don't see how equipment is fluff. I see ho it wouldn't really fit Nocturne, but not how it is unnecessary.

It's unnecessary because it doesn't add any depth to your decision making as a player. I mean, yes, there are often dozens of different swords and armors in an RPG, but the correct decision is obvious for 95%+ of the equipment. Buy the helmet with the highest defense, buy the sword with the highest attack power, etc. As such, it doesn't add any amount of strategy or skill-testing to the game, it just adds a necessary round of tedium in each town you visit.

That's not to say I want to see all RPGs get rid of equipment. It is often exciting to get a powerful new weapon or armor, but I was happy to see a game that broke away from that convention in favor of challenging the players to make strategic decisions.
