View Full Version : Offline clarification

Just wanted to ask the Admins here to clarify whether one can "choose" to play offline or not. This is an important question escpecially since I have a few friends who want the game but will not buy it after I told them about the Asian version which I have.

The game automatically puts you into online multiplayer mode which means anyone can bust into your game while your playing and "spoil" your fun. There is no way that I can see to prevent this from happening.

In the Asian version I have not been able to find a way to turn off online mode without pulling the network cord from my PS3. I then could play offline and not have anyone intrude into my game. This for me is silly. Why not put in the option to turn off online play? or an option to block people out? There is no option that I can see that will turn it off.

Will they add this option into the NA release?

Theyll most likely not add this option, since the game has a release month now.

Besides, if you want to play offline then dont connect to the internet, B.Phantom break-ins dont happen as much as you think they do. While you do get occasional spurts of multiple break-ins, they only happen when your in a human state and summoning other users.

So if you dont want to play online, take the chord out.

Yes good points but I for one dont want to deal with it. I should at least be given the option to block people out.

I wont be getting the game, they dont happen often is right but when they do its annoying.

I went a stretch for a month with no phantoms (people breaking into your game) and then I had a guy bust in repeatedly until I popped the network cord out.

Oh well, no sale for me I already have it.

If you could 'block' people, that'd be like censoring hardcore pornography.

You will get rape-.....invaded....and you'll deal with it or fight back the intruder like a MAN, WITHOUT COMPLAINING ABOUT IT!!!!!!!!!:mad::mad:

Look forward to it without pussying out of invaders, it's part of the game, it's meant to be relentless and challenging, Honestly, with no means of trying to be offensive, but this is nearly as stupid, to request being able to 'block' people because they want to KILL you? It's like the thread of requesting a PAUSE BUTTON.

Cmon!....If you can't take the god damn heat, get out of the kitchen, PERIOD.

Ok I didnt know the rules here is we cant criticize or at least point out things we dont like.

Along with flaming trolls.

The game is great, I imported it, I like it but I hate not having the option I mentioned.

Whats wrong with that?

Oh well, it was fun being here for a short while.

The irony of your statement, is I could say the exact same thing to you, are others not allowed to criticize your opinions or statements with their own? Is it illegal to insert an opinion of what you said?.... This type of irony is the worst type......

No flaming trolls(even though your avatar looks like a troll with a club O_O), and no need to get all uptight over someone elses' opinion -_- jeez....sounds like you're going to cry a river, don't take it so insultingly....

actually the option to play offline is given to you from after you press start on the title screen.

disable your auto login of your psn account, start up DS, when the prompt comes up about connecting to psn, choose cancel the choice on the right.

its as simple as telling the game "no." but "cancel" is written in katakana so its hard to tell what the button with weird writing does when the player doesnt know what it says.

thats why to anyone reading this: "Dont import this game if you dont already have it!"

Yeah you don't even have to disable auto-login or pull out network cables. Just press triangle on the account management icon in the XMB and select sign out. If Demon's Souls asks you to sign in just cancel and it'll go to offline mode.

I think I remember disabling auto login a while back so thats one way to get around it.
I forgot that since I havent played the game in a while, I just remeber being annoyed at break ins right before I try fighting a boss.

Got stuck on the Giant Knight (2nd boss) with a Barbarian and restarted with a Royal which proved to be a little easier to work with at least in the beginning of the game.

Oh well....my questions are answered...apparently a direct port will be made.

At this point at my age I'll be crying more rivers and bitching more than I would like.
Lets face it this game slaps people around and then sticks a dagger in them just for kicks.

We're all gamers so game on man. No hard feelings.

Yes, but I get aroused when slapped around, so I wanna grasp my hands on it firmly and thrust my own dagger deep into a newly created orifice of my enemies, so I can enjoy the lust pleasures of the hunt, and the suffering of others.

Oh, and when I say 'grasp my hands on it', I mean a Dualshock 3 controller.

:o

Game on and none at all, to you the same. I will look out for you in the NA game and thrust my dagger deep into you until I hear your character scream and moan and go limp, and fall to the ground.

Also, I am going to quit using gay innuendos now.

in your PS3 control panel, go to the network section, press Triangle, then select "Sign off". this will log you out of the PSN network.

when you start the game, you will be in offline mode.

just sign in to PSN network again if you want to go online.

What he said, when you launch the game it asks if you accept the online terms, if you don't then you play it offline.

If you lose connection to PSN while playing the game quits back to the main menu. You then either sign back into PSN or go into offline mode. and reload your save (it autosaves when you quit out).

I'm not sure if this is good or bad; so far on the Asian version I've only seen one quitter (was fairly annoying if I'm honest). Whether the influx of players will lead to more quitters, I don't know.

As I see it, it is far more annoying to quit to the main menu and reloading the game than getting killed. So I don't really see the point why anyone would want to do that. See the other players like any other monster in the game.

When I started reading about the unique online features of this game I also thought it would be cool to have a "no Black Phantom option". However, after more careful reading and watching, I can't conceive this game without the tension and suspense of another player trying to get his own body back by the means of murdering me, it sounds too cool not to experience it and I'm looking forward to do it myself knowing it can prove fatal to me as well.

To clarify, you can play the game offline, right? (With all the talk of the online elements, it doesn't state in the game's description if you can play offline. But I noticed some of you are talking about offline. )

If you can play offline, can you pause the game that way?

As for saving your game, can you only save in certain places in the game? Is there a lot of the level that you have to play over when dying and going back to your last save point?

I'm trying to decide whether to buy or even rent the game or not. I love sword and sorcery action RPGs, but I hate games that are so hard you can't finish them. It sounds like this is one of the hardest games ever. If anyone who has played the game can answer my questions, I'd appreciate it.

Just to clarify:

If your PS3 has the Internet Connection Enabled, the game will automatically try to connect to the server once you load it up. Either disable the wireless, or unplug the ethernet cable, then it'll say "Cannot connect to server. Play in offline mode?"

No, there isn't a pause button, even in offline mode. There are plenty of quiet patches in the levels, like when you've just cleared an area of enemies, it'd be quite safe to leave your player stood there, while you ran to get a drink/take a piss etc. lol! Enemies out of visible range won't actively seek you out.

The game automatically saves your progress everytime something happens. So there is no cheating death by loading a previous save point. Infact there is no manual save at all. When you die, it's right back to the start of the level, with all the enemies respawned!

The game isn't that difficult - it just takes patience, practise and lots of resolve!

Highly recommended purchase, and definitely not a rental!

long story short....if you dont want to deal with the online once you turn your ps3 on just disable the connection under your network settings......if you feel the urge to pvp or co op open the network settings back up and enable the connection. easy :)

Haha! n00b! The White Eye Stone banishes Blue Phantoms you've summoned, or let's you exit if you've joined someone elses game as a phantom (either colour).

It has zero effect on Black Phantom invaders.
