ATLUS TO BRING JAPANESE BRAWLER KENKA BANCHO 3™ FOR PSP®(PlayStation®Portable) SYSTEM TO NORTH AMERICA; FANS TO BE GIVEN OPPORTUNITY TO CONTRIBUTE TO NAMING PROCESS
What's in a name? You tell us.

IRVINE, CALIFORNIA -- JULY 7, 2009 -- Atlus U.S.A., Inc. today revealed that it has secured the publishing rights to Kenka Bancho 3™, a Japanese beat'em up for PSP® system. The game, which puts players in the role of a high school student on a class trip to a historic Japanese city, includes no shortage of fist-to-face and knee-to-gut action, and all in the name of pride and bragging rights.

In an unprecedented move for the publisher, Atlus will look to fan input in the process of choosing a title for the game's North American release.

"Kenka Bancho 3 is a terrific brawler with all the action and humor PSP system owners crave," said Aram Jabbari, Manager of PR and Sales for Atlus. "That said, the game is also called Kenka Bancho 3, which, without translation, may not be the most intuitive title for non-Japanese speaking gamers. Therefore, we're going to open things up for our fans to help us pick the game's new North American title. We wouldn't be in this situation if my suggestion for the title, Buncha Banchos, had been accepted," Jabbari added quickly with a nervous chuckle, "but you know, whatever."

Kenka Bancho 3 is scheduled for release in early 2010.

Fans can contribute to the naming process via the survey link below:

Honestly, I voted for Kenka Bacho. It was either that or Kenka Bancho: Badass Rumble.

I'm surprised "Delinquent King" or something of the sort wasn't included. :) Or perhaps "Akihabara Row" or "Grand Delinquent X." XD

I also am surprised by the lack of a title that has "Delinquent" in it.

Personally I think it should be something like, "The Delinquent's Rumbling". It's a grammar joke. You could read it as, "The Delinquent is Rumbling", or as ownership as in the Delinquent owns the rumblings in the game.

That one sounds too much like a Slade Ripfire movie. Like "Slade Ripfire: Deadly Blood-Kick to Oblivion."

Bancho Beatdown
Hmm...That would make it sound related to Tokyo Beatdown, IMO.

Speaking of which, is this like Tokyo Beatdown? I've never really played a brawler before, and Tokyo Beatdown interested me, but at the moment I didn't have the money to get it. I would love for my first brawler to be both published by Atlus and on PSP.

I had other names in mind such as Bancho Bashfest & Delenquent Riot but I think it sounds ok whith its original name though Kenka Bancho sounds catchy to me.

I guess I can put my ideas for a name, there not all that great though. The names are:

Rumble in the Bancho!

Fury of the Kenka Bancho!

The Bancho’s Rumble in Tokyo!

or The Legend of the Kenka Bancho!

I love how you surprise us with this, who knows what good ol atlus has in store next.;)

Well I voted for Bancho Royale, but really the game seems too ridiculous to have any kind of serious name to it and that one seemed the goofiest.

I could see something more along the lines of "Brick McPunchfist's Beatdown Bonanza" or something.

Rival Schools is the best Capcom fighting game.

I second that, granted Street Fighter 3 is a lot deeper and actually requires a little strategy, but nobody will play SFIII with me... on the other hand it's always a party with Rival Schools and Project Justice. Pretty noob friendly and tons of goofy anime characters instead of a bunch of X-men christmas special rejects.

Anyway if this is actually coming out, Atlus has redeemed themselves for Tokyo Beatdown (and then some?!). It should be titled...
Suburban Reign.

I loved both Rival Schools and Project Justice...amongst my favorites in terms of gameplay and character design.

That said, I ALMOST chose Fist of Bancho...but I felt it was still to ambiguous. Would people assume Bancho was the main character?

Just out of curiousity, why was Kenka Bancho 3 not a choice? Granted this is the first entry in the series to come to the US, but there are games that put the sequel number on it anyway (all I can think of right now is Castle Shikigami 2 — and yes I know Mobile Light Force 2 is Castle Shikigami 1. . . but that's a whole different beast). Any more specific reason it was not a choice?

(I voted for a badass option. I need to see more on the customization and story for this game before I decide if I want to buy it or not, but it does look like fun!)

I tought i some way people would like it just by the "Hokuto no Ken" reference, And about people assuming Bancho is the main character could be possible.. As some people thinks "Dragon Ball" Is Goku name... The best option could be "Kenka Bancho 3" Fans of Kenka Bancho would love Atlus about them keeping the original name.

I chose "Badass."

"Badass" is a verbal punch to the gut, and it's memorable as hell, so why clutter it up with adjectives and subtitles? The word "badass" defines the game so well that it needs no other qualifier, and its uniqueness as a title needs no further differentiation.

Rival Schools is the best Capcom fighting game.

Amen to that. I'm still waiting for a Rival Schools sequel. How cool would that be?

Anyway, that's not Atlus' concern. Let's talk Kenka Banchou

I'm pretty thrilled about Atlus deciding to bring this game over, it looks really fun and stylish :D ... kinda reminds me of the old Technos "Kunio" games. You know, River City Ransom, Renegade, World Cup Soccer (Yeah, that was a Kunio game as well) and Crash n' the boys Street Challenge on the NES. In fact, this game could be named Crash n' the boys: High School Beatdown or something :D ... but those aren't selectable :( .
BTW, my choice name was Kenka Banchou: Badass Rumble. It just has the best of both worlds (I'm gonna shoot myself for saying that, LOL).

Not only are they similar, I'm almost positive if the main Kunio series was still going, this is exactly what it would look like today. It's the only series that has even come close, in my opinion.

A little trivia: In a semi-sequel to River City Ransom that's on the SNES, Kunio and his school go on a field trip to Osaka. In Kenka Banchou 3, you go on a field trip to Kyoto (the other rural prefecture). Probably just a coincidence (both are popular places for field trips), but I'll always link the two games in my mind.

Not quite. You go to Kyouto, which is remarkably like Kyoto but isn't the same. In fact, characters from Kyoto comment that it's just as boring as home.

Just some of things the games have in common: customizable move sets, tons of shops everywhere, differentiation between stamina and health, lose/gain 'honorable' status through your fighting actions (this only applied to RCR:EX for gba), tons of different high school thugs to fight (who wear different color outfits), thugs drop coins of varying amounts, interludes with high school girls, etc.

And you're right about Rival Schools! Daigo was supposed to be a 'kenka banchou' type character, he was the leader of a big high school gang.

And this game has girl interaction? I'm even more excited about it now :D ... gonna dig my River City Ransom copy out and play some. Maybe I'll even dig my Project Justice copy as well :D
