I'm glad that the old cover art is still on the outside sleeve of the deluxe edition. I think it really sets a good feel for the mood of the game. Of course, you can expect to be in soul form a lot, too, though... haha.

Sooooooo.... as someone who has never owned or even looked at a strategy guide is it worth it? Usually when I get stuck I go online. Is there much of an advantage to having a guide? Is it full of spoilers?

The guide will get things that faqs will miss, and vice versa. Though the guides are often created by professionals who are getting paid to do what they do, and will have a greater incentive to write a good guide. It's also common that the author of the guide will have "insider information" about every little secret and strategy. Supposedly from the developers, etc.

So if you want to dig around online and find bits and pieces of what you need in several places and keep running back to your computer (unless you're on a laptop) every 15 or 20 minutes, you can do that. But for $10 more, you can keep that information right next to you, with shiny maps and detailed pictures. Plus, this is an Atlus game, and lest we forget, they typically don't make a huge load of copies of their games. The deluxe edition will probably fetch you a pretty penny down the line, should you ever choose to sell it...

Whether a guide is really worth it usually depends largely on the individual guide, or who wrote it. However, for $10 (about half the price of most strategy guides) and given as an above poster said that an Atlus Deluxe Edition could become quite a collector's item down the road, it should be an easy choice to make.

If it's anyting like the Perfect Guide, I found it helpful for the COMPLETE Weapons guid that had a comprehensive list of stats and methods to create some of the rare weapons. The Crystal Gecko locations were helpful as well.

Atlus has become one of my favorite publishers in the past few years so I definitely support them whenever I get the chance and the bonuses in the DE are too good to pass up.

There are quite a few complaints recently about fans not getting the Knights in the Nightmare pre-order artbook. Frankly I was pleasantly surprised that Atlus took the initiative to change Ys Books I and II's pre-order OST bonus to OST bonus for every launch copy. I don't mind a smaller sized artbook (Persona 3) if it can be fitted into the slipcase.

It probably won't be as small a run as some of their titles, but I don't see them jumping the gun and printing a larger run of the deluxe edition than say the SMT: Devil Summoner 2 set (50,000?). In fact, them releasing a deluxe edition at all shows that they're probably printing twice as many as they might usually do for a first run, since each version would probably have the same number unless they needed to print more to fulfill pre-orders.

I've never sold one of my Atlus games, but I've been considering selling some of my non-SMT titles, and possibly buying a second copy of some games as an investment. The valuation on some of my Atlus games is certainly higher than games I was willing to part with that gave me a decent return, and first-runs with extras are always worth more than the reprints that come along later.

I hope this is not all the NA version will have in comparison to the Asian ones ... no incentive to buy the game again really once you imported for an art book/strategy guide, which you probably wouldn't need if you have played the game a bit... If price is still an issue for gamers who want a PS3, then I'll suggest waiting. There were plenty of rumors circulating in the internet that this Fall will see a slim version of the PS3 along with a price cut. Even if there is no slim version and no price cut from Sony, retailers often do promotions of their own during the festive season.

Get the Best Buy bundle. They're packaging Killzone 2 and Metal Gear Solid 4 with the 80 gig PS3 for the current price. That's basically your price cut PLUS two games right there. After that, PRE-ORDER Demon's Souls like the Atlus Faithful that you are. :D

Put it all into one bundle please. My local EBs are ran by dumb asses, or thiefs? and we never see any preorder bonuses with the purchase. And to refuse in buying the product when that happens is like cutting my nose off to spite my face.

Make it fool proof and put it all in one slip case please. Or better yet bundle the art book with the guide like the deluxe guide for FFXII.

Im really glad that ATLUS managed to get some exlcusive content for the US release, although i dont really want to buy and import (again) Demons Souls, i MUST have this new stuff.

Im also kind of annoyed that the localisation studios in the EU (heh, if there are any) is once again doing nothing.

I doubt that the Deluxe Edition would get a different artwork since that could mean more delays because of how certain things got remodeled. Furthermore, what would be the point of producing two different versions of the same game? I mean, with Persona 3 FES, it was somewhat understandable but a lot of people didn't like feeling jipped about it.

It's like you're asking for people to feel the same things that Xbox 360 fans are feeling when "Xbox exclusive" games were announced for the PS3 with much more content than what was previously available when it released for the 360.

Just support Atlus by getting the Deluxe Edition because of the sheer awesomeness that it provides.

Hrrmm, my only other question would be, when you Pre-order the game, do you get the Bonuses right when you Pre-Order it? Or they hand it to you only at the day of the launch? Because I remember when Pre-ordering MGS4, I got the bonus DVD case(MGS Saga Vol 2? etc) that came with a Promo code too! and stuff.

New standards for premiums are to keep them as close to, or ON the launch when possible to limit the amount of questionable actions that happen at GS/EB. This has been a common complaint of many consumers that preorder but simply do not get the bonuses. GS has been trying to change things so there's less opportunity to miss out on these things from a consumer standpoint.

Of course, it's best to get to know your local stores and befriend them so they'll essentially look out for you.

I'm guessing it's not likely they'll have the artbooks until a week prior to launch at the earliest.

Me too, I fist placed an order on Gamestop but cancelled it and ordered it instead on amazon. I have no trust in gamestop when it comes to pre-order bonuses, on the gamestop site the deluxe edition is only listed as "Demon's Souls Deluxe Edition" it still says that you will get the bonus for pre-ordering it, but with gamestop you might get it or not.... Whilst on the Amazon website it is listed as "Demon's Souls Deluxe Edition W/ Artbook".

Depends on who gets to the door when its launched first, and how many they expect to sell, the demand in pre-orders, they'll get that number and roughly use it know how many 'Bonuses' they're gonna need....

I can understand being impatient and wanting the game the first day it's available. On the other hand, I gave up on that a long time ago, mostly due to Atlus' games. There were too many times Gamestop didn't have the game when they said they would, and no one at the stores knew why. Then there are all of the stories people tell about not getting pre-order bonuses, and the fact that the store won't guarantee they'll have the game if you pre-ordered it and don't get down there right away (unless it's a huge title like a new Halo or GTA).

At least with Amazon I know it's coming with everything that's supposed to be there, and all I have to do is wait for it to arrive in the mail. The Saturday after release is the latest I've received a game that I pre-ordered with Amazon's free shipping option. I've even gotten pre-order bonuses ordering games a week or two after release.

Digital distribution is not going to change the prices of games. If they want to jack up the prices (and I think this is one of the first games I've paid $60 for since the days when game cartridges would actually have more chips in them to handle a particular game and therefore cost $10-15 more than every other new game on the shelves), they're going to do it. You either don't pay the price and wait for it to go down, or you cough it up.

In fact, since there's no real inventory with digital distribution and they have to keep the games on the servers for re-download of existing purchases, it's more likely that game prices will stay higher longer in digital form, as can be seen with most of the older PSP games currently available on PSN. I paid $5 for Jeanne d'Arc, new, and it's $22 on PSN.

Whatever's causing the Canadian prices to go up isn't going away just because of digital distribution, either. If it's just taxes, the government will be sure to levy taxes on digital products as soon as the market shifts. If it's the exchange rate, then you're already hosed on the digital side, too.

My experience with special editions is not good. Street Fighter IV was a cheat, Sacred 2 was rubbish and so on. X-Blade was the best so far what I am concerned but that was a terrible game :(

That is partly true, but not entirely. For example in the special edition of Sacred2 was a action figure and a map. But the action figure was a cheap piece of plastic and the map was some kind of a poster. Street Fighter IV the same. Figurines were rubbish and the guide was a small bundle of papers sticked together. Ripp-offs.

So what I am trying to say is that the description is not enough to know about the quality...

I get what you're saying. A pretty good rule of thumb is to conclude that most special edition trinkets will be of poor quality. Atlus has typically been the exception to this rule, even going so far as to delay the release of games because the glue on the artbook wasn't worth a damn, so the stuff with the deluxe edition will probably be of decent quality.

From what I understand it is literally a word for word english translation of the japanese guide. If you want to see a picture of it check the unboxing vid that was recently stickied it shows it there. The original for the record was made by Enterbrain...

I just wanted to add, Think of the price...Normally I expect to pay the normal $60 for a standard pre-order, but in my experience to upgrade to delux is usually $80 or more...I always go through gamestop so it may be different, but When I went to pre-order this game at Gamestop he asked if I wanted Delux and I replied "no it's not really worth it for a strat guide for $20" then he said oh no it's only $10 more...

p.s. it wasn't untill later that I came to this site and found out that the strat guide is not in stores and is delux esclusive!

Just to clear this up I haven't seen anywhere where Atlus said the Deluxe version would be pre order only. Also the guide is a part of the deluxe package so if you buy the deluxe, pre order or not, you will get the guide. The only items you have to pre order to get are the art book and the soundtrack.

The gamestop by my house ordered a few deluxe editions that are not pre-orders, so you may get lucky. It's only 10 bucks more so just go for it. I think they decided to stock it cause the employees are DS lovers.

I actually did this too, but I managed to find a PS3 in time. The Deluxe Version is going to be hard to find later on. Normal editions of Atlus games are already a pain to find after release!
