Is it worth making a trip to the store today or should I wait until tomorrow?

Some people said their Gamestop already has a copy of the game.

99.99999% of the time Tuesday is the ship day and the game will not be there until Wednesday. This is a universal truth, and it isn't going to change anytime soon. Only giant heavy-hitter titles like GTA and Final Fantasy are there on the day of release, and that's usually because they are street dated and are shipped at least a week before the day they're allowed to be sold. And you'll know when this happens because the release date with have the words "STREET DATED" nearby.

Actually, I've picked up many Atlus and NISA titles on the Tuesday release. Most Gamestops will have the game on Tuesday if you pre-ordered it and they didn't screw up the pre-orders (or maybe sell it to someone else). Of course, this could also vary by location, as shipping takes longer for some areas than others (I once lived in an area where 2 day deliveries always took 5 days). Games, movies, and music hit store shelves on Tuesdays. In bigger stores, they're not even going to put it on the shelf until the following Tuesday if it doesn't show up before Tuesday, but those places are less likely to carry Atlus games in the first place.
At the same time, Gamestop's online stock checking system is updated before the stores open in the morning, so it's almost always completely useless on the release date unless they actually did have a stockpile of them before the release date (like GTA and FF games).

It more likely has to do with where the centers Atlus is shipping the games from are. I've -NEVER- gotten games on a release day, even when I worked there and could check when things came myself, because that's the day the company actually ships the item and there's no time for it to make it to the store, especially when most places like Gamestop only get shipments at 10 AM. The shipment center would have to be right down the street for it to get there same-day.

The company doesn't ship the game on Tuesday unless they're late. No one would get it on Tuesday if the company shipped it that day. In fact, no one would be likely to get it the same week, since the company doesn't ship it to your local store. Amazon wouldn't be processing orders if the game was shipped today, either, because Amazon wouldn't have any stock to process. Since my order has been processed with additional items in the same shipment (items that were already in stock), it's more likely they've not only received the game, but sent their stock to regional distribution centers to fill orders, which means not only was it shipped to them, but they've had a day or two to ship it around the country before sending it to people's doorsteps.
For your local Gamestop to get it on Tuesday, Gamestop probably had to have the game the Friday before, or earlier, depending on how far your region is from their central processing center, and what the processing time is for your region. Of course, you worked there, you should know the games don't ship from Atlus' distributor to Gamestop's stores.
I haven't been buying a lot of games at Gamestop lately, but the last game I walked in and bought on release day without a pre-order was Mana Khemia (PS2) in San Jose.
On the other hand, I've had some nightmare experiences waiting for games, like Nocturne, that involved all sorts of confusion.

I like how the marketing email today asked "On June 23rd, how will you choose to survive?"
Apparently they meant 'how will you survive sitting around knowing you will never get this game on ship date (June 23rd), and maybe later if you live in Canada?'

Btw. is this some kind of a North American phenomena? I never heard the "the release date is a lie, it's just the shipping date" thing in Germany in my whole life.
Wiseman4545

Well Germany is smaller than the entire United States, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was more common to recieve games on the date listed in Germany than the US.

Of course, but couldn't Atlus just say the release date is June, 24th? I mean, they know it usually takes a day longer.

The reason we (and other companies) typically give a ship date rather than a release date is that different retailers spring for different types of shipping. So we can't say with certainty when a game will appear in every store, but we can say with certainty when it ships out to all of them.

Just picked up my copy. Cant play it here at work but I've browsed the manual. Thickest DS manual ever. Anyone else's page 18, 19 and 74 get printed in low quality or is it just me? It's all fuzzy but still readable.

I am really ticked off.

Just the fact that a DS manual HAS a page 74 is crazy.
But anyway, those pages in my manual were fine. I haven't seen any defects in my manual in any other way. The only thing, however, is you know that the second half of the manual (including page 74) is the French copy of the first half, right? :)

Anyone who had a terrible ordeal with Game Stop / EB involving Class of Heroes and therefore swore to never buy games from them again and moved their pre-order of Devil Survivor to Game Crazy (...was that just me?) is in luck! Game Crazy got their shipments (at least the one near me did), however anyone who goes to Game Crazy knows that they dont usually stock Atlus games and will therefore probably not have any copies except those that were pre-ordered.

According to Amazon, I won't be getting my copy until July 7...
(sigh) Such is the time cost of free shipping, I suppose... though they still haven't mailed the damn thing.
I can't complain too much. I still have to finish vs. King Abaddon and Front Mission to free up my DS.

Exactly; I'm not so dumb that I expect to magically get a phone call every time I see a game I plan on buying.
I did get a call for Devil Survivor, though, so I've only never received calls for Apollo Justice and Devil Summoner 2 so far upon RESERVING them.

Oh, there are plenty of good reasons to own a DS, I doubt you'll be disappointed.
Anyway, I got my shipping notification from Amazon yesterday, so it will come in at some random point in time within the next two weeks.

Yeah, I heard good things about The World Ends With You in the past, and I keep hearing great things about Knights In the Nightmare in this forum, so I guess those will be of the first games I get.
Gonna get a DSi tomorrow and I hope they have Devil Survivor in stock.

Damn Amazon.ca! Is there a higher comsumer volume on this game? The site now says will ship 2-3 weeks whereas I PREORDERED in Feb. I wanted to play it by now. Not really Atlus's fault but me needs to vent. Sorry about this lol. Though I think this game seriously must be in high demand, or a delay in Canadian shipping since it's shipping date was 3 days ago. Anyone know anything like that?

This appears to be nation wide.
I do NOT buy Atlus' lame-ass answer that some stores used poor shipping and are getting the game later.
Atlus, if you want to appear professional, step up to the plate and list the different release dates.
Really, really slack on your part.

Sorry to post this here, the forum won't let me create a new thread for some reason.
I'm just wondering if anyone knows when Devil Survivor will be out in the UK, or if it is even coming here at all.
Thanks!

You'd need to appeal to the better natures of European/UK companies for information like that, as if it gets released here, one of them will be in charge of it.
Or you could import it, like some of the more impatient people do ;)

Yeah, the NA release has English and French so they don't have to have separate packaging for certain parts of Canada (at least as I understand it).
