Timelines - SMT Historical background?

OK this is going to likely make folk groan, but I have a request. Since I have seen or played some(but definitely not all) of the games within the SMT universe, I was wondering if anyone out there has a link or the knowledge of the games as they have been created. What was the very first SMT game? What series began it all and what spun off from there? Has anyone ever see a crossover of characters(besides persona/demons) ? and if anyone has played through the majority of the games, what is the difference, gameplay (or even story wise) between many of the series. Persona vs DDS or Nocturne vs Persona or.. whatever.

I suspect as I finish more games I'll start hunting down others so it'll be handy to get a compendium of whats worth checking out based on my play style.

You can find a lot of good information regarding most of the games and their respective timeline in here (http://hg101.classicgaming.gamespy.com/megaten/megaten.htm). It's a good place to start with.

It would be cool if we could add something more from our own experiences with the games though.

wow, I really love more SMT! :p its my kind of game, i will search for all of them in internet :D to put my hands! buhahahaha, I really loved Persona 1 psx, little kind dark gameplay, but the others SMT are really cool, thnks for the link
