The controller configuration could have been better. Having the block and the demon invincible trigger on the same side just wasn't a very good idea. They should have put them on R1 and L1, instead. And put the command menus on R2 and L2...
I'm just not used to using two fingers from one hand for those trigger buttons.
Plus...I'm not left handed, either.
It's too bad we can't modify the button configuration.....

Adapt or fall behind. Evolution has no time or place for those unable or unwilling to change when necessary. Things go extinct for a reason, after all. Maybe soon, instead of gone the way of the Dodo, we'll be saying gone the way of the Hydra...

So...
Why are you playing a PS2 game?

I'm right handed and I love this part of the controls.
I do tend to hide my demons by accident, but can I really complain that my demons didn't get hurt? It's not like I didn't block because of it either.
It's actually really helpful to have both the blocking and demon hiding on the same finger.
My biggest control problem is the Circle, Square, Triangle, and X buttons.
But I've gotten used to it.
Still upset about the X button being a back flip. Never used the X button in this game. I flip through guarding so...
Somehow it was easier to remember the last game's controls because of the little symbols. But that's just me.

Heh. PS2 comment was really just meant for that one guy with his, adapt or be left behind Dodo, putdown.
I've gotten used to the face buttons, myself. I, too, was pretty surprised when they flipped everything compared to the first game. But then again the gameplay of the first game wasn't all that memoriable, so it wasn't too hard to adapt to the mirrored controls. Gameplay is a lot better with this one, though.
As for the trigger configuration. I just feel it would be easier to block and hide the demons, if they were seperated between your two hands, instead of them both being on the same side. It's just makes it harder to cover yourself and the demons when you see that special message about a Demon being up to something. I usually flinch with my right index finger and end up opening one of the two command menus, whenever I see that message flash on the screen.
It's either that or I react with the X button while pressing down on the L2. But doing that doesn't help any with Raidou under that certain circumstance... he gets the blunt of all the damage. Once in awhile I'm able to then press down both those Left Triggers, but it not something that I'm in the habit of reacting to, I have to think about it first. Guess I've been playing DMC, Onimusha, and GOW for too long....
I'm sure if I were Left hand dominate I could adjust, but I'm just finding it extremely difficult to adjust to this left hand trigger setup. To where I can block and hide without a second thought.
Damage isn't really a problem, yet. All the bigger attacks, so far, are survivable. I'm just thinking about Hard mode. Well, if this game *has* a Hard mode for the Second Playthru. I imagine, I'm going really be really suffering then...

I kind of agree with this. I'm playing on a PS3, and the L2 button is awful on the Dual Shock 3. I would have preferred L2 and R2 as well.

for some reason, I ALWAYS use R1 to block. the worst is when you have to hold both buttons (L1+L2) to block and hide demons from a "full-screen" attack.

I can't even do anything with my L2 button because it got stickied up quite some time again. Darn those full-screen killers.

I've got no problem with the controls, though I do tend to forget that R2 goes directly to the command menu (I use R1 and cycle through by habit). Of course, I also neglected the Square Pass shortcut in the Press Turn games, so it's nothing new... and it's not like I'm losing anything by it.
Holding L1 and L2 to defend for large attacks was something I got used to about the time bosses started throwing unblockables. It took a little getting used to, but nothing much.
Really, I'm just surprised that Atlus USA made no changes from the Japanese combat controls. I would've at least expected an O, X swap (which probably would've required a Triangle, Square swap to stay consistent).
