I'll probably start watching Alien Nation again if I remember where I stopped watching it last.
I've got the series and the set of TV movies, I need to watch that one of these days.
I don't have the original movie, should I try to find it before I start with the show?

Watched the pilot episode of The Amazing Screw On Head the other night. Shame that it was never picked up. Very entertaining and a nice animated translation of Mignola's art style.
Just made me wish that Mignola would concentrate more on his art again as opposed to just writing. :/

Just finished Law Abiding Citizen... wow, great movie. Best part I've ever seen Gerard Butler in, he was the real star in the movie. It's $10 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002XMGGK6?ie=UTF8&tag=1upcom0f-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B002XMGGK6) this week at Amazon and Best Buy so it should be a must buy for suspense fans.

Watched "Shutter Island."
As can be expected of Scorcese-DiCaprio combo, it's a very well made movie, but I can't say it's anything spectacular.
Don't get me wrong, I definitely enjoyed the film, but it's lacking that something that makes it stand above the rest of similar "what's real and what's not" movies. It's almost too "honest" in its execution, if that makes any sense.
I give it a solid B.

Thats a great flick. i remember the year I got that for christmas, i also had bought it for my friend that bought it for me. He bought Burnout: revenge for our other friend, and that Other friend had bought it(burnout) for my friend.. damn strange.... we all bought eachother the same damn stuff...
Currently I've been gathering and re-watching lots of movies with Rifftrax going. Great stuff. Last night was Fast and Furious.

Another boring Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde flick. Think at this point I am just going to stick with Ralph Bates and Martine Beswick.
Next up from Netflix Strip Nude for Your Killer from Andrea Bianchi (Director of the Italian Zombie film Burial Ground) also stars Edwige Fenech (a fav or Tarantino and a star of multiple gialli).

I've been reading a lot lately, so I haven't watched ANY movies or TV in the last couple of weeks.
Actually, I take that back... I watched Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Up, and Fantastic Four about a week ago.
I've got a few things I need to watch before too long:
Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer
the Roger Corman Fantastic Four movie
maybe the FF animated TV show (World's Greatest Heroes) - I wish I had the 90s version

Tonight's episode of "24" continues to reinforce my position that, if it weren't for all the Dana Walsh silliness in the earlier part of the season, this would be one of the strongest season of "24" yet.

Just watched "The Recruit."
Story was predictable as hell, but Al Pacino totally sold the movie for me. Utterly brilliant. Not the kind of performance that wins awards, but it was the kind of performance that absolutely serves the movie and its story.
Maybe it's because I have a bit of theatre background, but I totally dig that kind of performances. Blew me away, to be honest.
Even the fairly straightforward story worked to the movie's advantage, I think. Too many of the suspense-thriller flicks nowadays are so obsessed with turning a "fresh twist" that most end up being a convoluted, undecipherable, and even self-contradictory mess. So I appreciate it when they keep things simple. It just makes the story work better.
I might buy this movie on bluray, just so that I can watch Pacino's scenes whenever I feel like it.

Just came back from watching "A-Team."
Absolutely loved it.
The actors really captured the original characters' essence. The action was outrageous, but remained fun and somehow never crossed the line of "ok that's just stupid now" for me (YMMV, of course).
For someone who has fond memories of the original TV series, this was a great remake that never takes itself too seriously. More importantly, it felt like an A-Team movie, unlike the Mission:Impossible movie series which really was M:I in title only.
A perfect pure-entertainment movie. Two enthusiastic thumbs up. :D

I really need to get the Fawlty Towers set, I haven't watched the show in 10 years or more... :D
I watched the M*A*S*H movie the other day, and I am going to start marathoning the series.
I am not that big a fan of the movie itself, although if I view it as a "unaired pilot" for the series it's ok
A. I'm used to the TV cast and humor
B. It really seemed slow, particularly in the beginning. Of course, it was more of a "slice of life" flim rather than something with a traditional plot that goes from the Start to A to B to C to the End.
C. The humor was different than I am used to (from other movies, and from the M*A*S*H TV show). For some reason, most 70s movies don't really work for me... From the beginning of film to the 60s are fine, I have a particular fondness for 80s movies since I grew up in that era, and 90s & 00s films are what's on now, obviously. There were several moments that I found to be pretty funny.
D. It's half comedy, half drama or however you want to describe it - The TV show was as well, but blended them better, IMHO. Personally, I don't really like that much drama, but that's just me.
E. I personally feel that much of it's "greatness" stemmed from the boundaries that it stretched at the time of it's release, and those aren't as noticable now. Also, I think that people liked it because they saw it as an anti-war/anti-establishment film during the Vietnam era.

I just got back from the midnight showing of Scott Pilgrim. But first, some cred. I started reading the books around two years ago, right before the fifth volume came out. I can't count how many times I've reread them. What follows contain minor spoilers that only really make sense if you've read the books in the first place.
So the flaws. It's not so much that it deviated the comic, it's that the movie mutated the comic. There would be scenes that would be the same except one of the characters is different. For example, most of the elements of Romona vs. Envy are now in Romona vs. Roxy. Or scenes that are the same except they're not quite in the same chronological order, like Romona vs. Knives. And of course, there were things left out for time, including Honest Ed's, which was one of the most delightfully surreal parts of the comic. And there were other things that were just overly simplified, like Kyle and Ken Katayanagi.
And now the good parts. EVERYTHING. Oh. Em. Gee. Best comic adaptation I've ever seen. Just amazingly awesome. They just nailed most of the characters. Michael Cera makes a much better Scott Pilgrim than I thought he would. Wallace Wells and Kim Pine and Knives Chau and Ramona Flowers and Gideon Graves and Todd Ingram were absolutely perfect. Steven Stills, not so much. Too goofy. But still awesome. The soundtrack was kickass, and the visuals were clever as hell.
It boils down to, are you alive? Then go see the movie.

I watched Scott Pilgrim vs The Animation on AdultSwim.com and I have to say it made me cry. Well, the movie was filled with great scenes. I don't think it deservers 4th place on IMDB, but it will probably move down as soon as a few more reviews roll in...

I often do that on British movies and shows (or even American stuff.) I got used to subtitles from anime and foreign films (kung fu, etc.), and in addition, my mom was getting to be a bit hard of hearing, so I would turn captions on whenever we watched something.
Actually, some of the British accents are easier to understand than American stuff, particularly when the American actors are using thick accents for their role. Even without accents, it seems like half of the actors out there mumble their way through a role...

Most of the gags in this have been done better but by more experienced and talented directors. I love the two nods to Henenlotter though... And having a scene that references both Shivers and Brain Damage was cool. I can't see watching myself ever watching the film again though.

Takers is a very good drama dealing with thieves, crooked cops, and some brilliant heists. I suggest it for anybody who likes a drama with those things.
Resident Evil: Afterlife...it's Resident Evil, the plotline is nonexistant, but the action scenes are amazing. So in other words, the usual...and I think I saw the creator of the videogame series in the opening scenes.

Was never interested in seeing NotC most of the folks who I know who have had praise for it weren't usually my kind of horror fans. I like some 80s cheese but more along the lines of Brain Damage, Burial Ground, Bad Taste, Repo Man, Combat Shock, Entrails of a Beautiful Woman/Virgin etc. Basically if its cheesy I want it as over the top as possible.

Took a walk down the nostalgia lane, and watched "The Last Starfighter" and "Flight of the Navigator."
"The Last Starfighter" is a better movie than I remembered it. I was fully expecting to go, "wow, look how cheesy is this. can't believe i liked it so much back then," but the movie was actually not half bad. Sure, it has its share of cheese, but just the right amount for a movie of this kind. And the CG effects are pretty damn sweet, considering this is a 1984 film.
"Flight of the Navigator" was pretty sweet too. Shorter than I remembered it to be, and it was shock to find out that the intern girl (who I thought was pretty hot when I was a kid) was played by Sarah Jessica Parker (who I think is hideous now). XD Anyway, the kid who played the lead boy was surprisingly a good actor. I looked him up on IMDb (his name is Joey Cramer), and found out he pretty much did nothing after that movie. Shame.
By the way, that spaceship in "Flight of the Navigator"? Totally a prototype for T-1000. :D

I feel like I wasted a couple hours watching Shinjuko Incident.. I saw that Jackie Chan was in it and was expecting some form of martial arts, there was little to none, just wild uncoordinated flailing.. Plus the plot was very depressing.

Funny, I just happened to purchase this recently too (upon the high recommendation of a fellow Martial Artist.)
I have to say, this was probably one of the most enjoyable martial arts films i've seen. What I really liked about it was how simple and believeable the martial arts were.
And yes, VJ, Ip Man 2 just came out overseas, we should be getting a limited Theatrical Release in Jan/Feb. From what I hear, it is pretty much a cash in. Regardless, i'll be seeing it just to see it.

How about IP Man 3? I saw it on amazon.
Description: "Legend Is Born - Ip Man" serves as a prequel to Ip Man's life before becoming the Master of Wing Chun. It depicts Ip Man's (Dennis To Yu-Hang) younger days in Hong Kong as a student, and returning to Foshan, China, where he spends his formative years training to become the ultimate martial arts legend.
The movie stars IP Chun, the eldest son of Master IP Man, as Leung Pik, IP Man's second Wing Chun master, Dennis To Yu Hang, the youngest World Kung Fu Champion of Hong Kong who plays the young IP Man and Fan Siu-wong, who also performed in the "IP Man" series.

Yeah. I ended up telling my older sister and she tracked the bullies down and demanded the candy back. However, one of their mothers called me a liar and pretty much claimed their son was innocent, but my sister later found my pumpkin candy... thing... and knew it was mine because I drew a cat on the bottom of it with marker.
I don't really remember, but my sister made their son's life hell apparently after that.

So I recently decided to take plunge and start watching Death Note. I've only seen the first three DVDs so far (I feel like I'm the only one who doesn't watch them on the Net), and I must say that it's pretty interesting. I can see why it was such a big deal a couple of years back; the drama is pretty good for what is basically a series of huge coincidences strung together. Of course there are a few problems with the series (Light seems pretty much like a Gary Stu in his normal life), but I'm willing to look past those.
I also picked up the first volume of Megaman NT Warrior recently pretty much for the nostalgia (I loved it when it aired). Of course, I now realize that it's just a silly anime with a bad dub, but it was worth the trip down memory lane. It's a pity, since the basic concept is something I should be all over.

Watched the new Harry Potter movie.
When I watched the previous movie "Half-Blood Prince," I felt lost because I hadn't read the book, and the events were happening so fast with minimal exposition in the movie version.
With "Deathly Hallows," despite the fact that they decided to split the story into two movies, events still happen very fast with minimal exposition. This time, I read the book beforehand, but had I not done so, I would have been lost again.
But I was quite satisfied with how the three principal actors handled the emotional journeys of their characters. I always felt the guy playing Harry (Daniel Radcliff) was the weakest of the three, but he pulled his weight this time around. (almost literally too. he looked rather chubby)
Before the movie started, there was a trailer for the new Narnia movie. And it was almost appalling how the principal actors of that film didn't have any charisma or on-screen presence to make the audience (or at least me) go "I want to know what happens to them." The Harry Potter principals don't have any problem with that, especially Ron and Hermione. I think that's the difference between the two movie franchises why one is so much more successful than the other.

Dollhouse is amazing. You'll be quite shocked at the end of season 2. I hate that it was cancelled.
Cancellation seems to be the fate of many shows I really enjoy.

Earlier I watched The Last Airbender movie. It wasnt bad, I think the kid should of been asian, but oh well. Like this one, if they did make a sequal I'd still wait for it to hit dvd rather than go to the theaters, esp. since the 3d price is over $16 per ticket now.

I also watched The Last Airbender a couple of days ago (used one of my DIsh Network free rentals). I wasn't impressed.
I'm in the middle of Season 4 of Dexter. Lovin it (though not as much as the past seasons, not yet at least).

That was a really good movie. Definitely is a shame that we won't have any more of his talent on-screen, but he did leave us with some great stuff.

I saw The Last Airbender at midnight on the opening night, and I was pretty disappointed. The cast was a bit lacking and such, and the story was just not right (to the show that is...). Also, I bought the DVD, and it won't play on anything except my computer... :| Anyway, I'm also watching the Deltora Quest anime that was recently translated into English. I hope it has a DVD release soon.

I absolutely despise that movie since I was such a big fan of the show. What the fire nation did the the air nomads is what M. Night did to that film.
Anyway, watching The Fantastic Mr. Fox. We're all wild animals. :D

I've heard nothing but good things about Black Swan. =D I'm curious to why some people are finding it awful though.
I just watched the whole first season of Sengoku Basara: Samurai Kings. Amazing. That's all I have to say.
"My Looooooord!"
Black Swan wasn't a bad movie by any means, I just found it disappointing compared to Aronofsky's previous movies. I don't think he'll make anything as truly original as The Fountain again. The visuals and musical arrangements were stellar, but I did leave wanting a bit more.
My qualms with True Grit are essentially the same as they were with Black Swan; Excellent director(s), not that great a movie. Brilliant performance by Barry Pepper, though. Such an underrated actor.

I enjoy watching House and NCIS every now and then on USA. I don't know why, but it seems to be my favorite Television Network at the time. I hardly flick on the TV anymore expecting to watch TV. Usually I play the PS3 for an hour or so, but lately I've been watching just a bit more TV than usual.

My mom hated the movie because she couldn't understand what was happening at all. I even tried to explain it to her and she still didn't get it. I think a lot of people get involved with the special effects, and thus lose out on the plot, so when they come back to the plot, it leaves them dazed.
Anyway, I'm watching Princess Mononoke. It's fantastic so far.

Living in Europe, it's a pain waiting for Black Swan to arrive :( I also want to watch True Grit very badly, but I should perhaps try to lower my expectations somewhat because of what Andy said.
Anyway, out of boredom and the need of some new show I decided to watch the pilot of Glee. Turned out the show is awesome and got so many wonderful characters, and manages to not be a giant clichefest which I expected. It also pokes fun at some stuff like High School Musical, despite being somewhat similar (only a thousand times better). I'm at the season 1 finale now, but I just can't get myself to watch it :(

Just finished Rock & Rule, pretty good film.
The film is about a future in which nuclear war has wiped out humanity, leaving behind the 'street animals'; cats, rats, and dogs. Centuries later these animals have evolved into anthropomorphic mutants, creating a new society in the ruins of man's ancient cities, renaming them things like Ohmtown and Nuke York. Our heroes are members of a struggling band, the rebellious Omar, his gentler counterpart Angel, as well as Dizzy (on drums) and Stretch (bass). Omar and Angel have a disagreement on who should be lead vocalist which is threatening to split the group, and it doesn't help that Angel is propositioned by international rockstar Mok. However, as Omar tries to investigate Mok to get his girl back he discovers the real reason Angel has been auditioned. Her voice is the missing component of a diabolic ritual Mok has devised to raise a demon and rule the world.
Something similar to the animation style would be the Heavy Metal animated film.

Sucker Punch was actually OK. I expected it to be pretty bad but since the reviews were so mixed I gave it a chance. I don't regret it, the action sequences were for the most part awesome and Baby Doll is super cute. However, the plot was so horrible that I don't even know what to say about it. Because of that, I would only rate this movie a 6/10.
