Mimi, have you seen this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martyrs_(film) ?
http://youtube.com/watch?v=ZNM9kKo4JNU
It could be watched on YT and Google Video at one point. Just wondering it you've seen it, and if it was any good. Supposed to be as bloody as Inside.
Also, what about Them (Ils)? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Them_(2006_film)

Kid, maybe you've seen them? Though, I don't think horror is your thing.

I haven't seen Martyr, but I'll look into it. Them/Ils is a piece of ####, dude. Don't even waste your time. It's boring, not graphic at all, unentertaining, and incoherent.

Actually, is Martyrs even out yet? The official site says it's in cinemas in September. It seems like they're still trying to decide on a rating.

Watched Across the Universe (BR) a few days ago... when I rented it I wasn't aware it was a musical... so I took my sweet time before watching it. For a musical it wasn't bad (just not my type of movie). However I thought about how much life would suck if people sang everywhere you went, I would either have to kill myself or everyone who sang.
Anyway the DD True HD did a good job for all the singing that's going on through out the movie, and it was all very colorful and artsy like, so no compliants in either of those areas.
I also watched Harold and Kumar: Escape from Guantanamo Bay (BR) before that, it was pretty funny but not really hilarious. I'd never seen the first movie, but this one wasn't hard to follow since they provide you with flashbacks (I guess) from the first movie. Gotta love the bottomless part party.
Like almost every other New Line HD movie, this features a 7.1 DTS-HD audio track, however I kept hearing weird popping noises through out this movie. It has never happened before on my system, so I'm blamming the movie, but I wonder if it's a bad disc or what... PQ was alright, nothing great but not bad either.
Be kind rewind. IT was supposed to be a cute movie, or something, I guess. It had a couple funny moments, but it wasn't really touching, and felt a bit pointless. The plot also doesn't seem to go anywhere. The remakes of movies are cute too. It feels like huge self congratulator masturbation by the studio. 2/5
Edit: 2/3

Just watched Vantage Point (BR). I didn't really care for how the movie changed perspective every few mins (even though that was obviously the entire point of the movie), but it does come together pretty good near the end. I expected more use out of the rear spekaers in the soundtrack, but at least the few explosions they play over and over sound pretty decent. PQ was also pretty good, if a bit soft in spots. I figure more people here would have seen it considering it has everyone's favorite deserted island leader Jack in it...

Be Kind Rewind. Good movie, very enjoyable with a good pace. Mos Def and Jack Black continue to show what great actors they are, especially Mos Def.
Sei what kind of rating system is 2 out of 3? :) Now that's a America's Hat (Canada) garbage rating system if I've ever heard of one.
^ Heh, thanks, I missed that. Ficed it. Cut me some slack haven't got a lot of sleep lately.
Agree on Mos Def. I didn't feel Jack Black's acting was anything special for this movie. He was just playing an unfunny variant of the same character he always plays.

EH I agree, less hotties because of him.
Anyways I watched:
The Bank Job(2008) R
Based on a true 1971 event, this thriller tells the story of Terry (Jason Statham), a car dealer who becomes involved in a London bank heist only to find that the contents of the bank vault will draw him deeply and irrevocably into the city's criminal underbelly. Murder and scandal abound in this tale of corruption populated with a surprising mix of offenders, from low-level thugs to government officials and all the way up to the royal family.
3 out 5 stars, decent pace, dragged in a couple spots. But over all a decent flick.

Watched Persopolis (BR)... another one of the mediocre modern art films. It wasn't bad, but I had a hard time being entertained or even caring about most of the #### in the movie. I suppose it's a good way to learn about some Iranian history, maybe if I take a class on that, or had watched this movie in said class I would have cared for it more, but that's not the case.
I also tend to dislike movies with poor/cheap looking animation, and this movie is the last one I could see really benefitting the HD treatment. I'm sure it look better than the DVD would a nice sized TV, but for most people the added cost for a mostly black and white movie with such basic animation and artwork is not warranted.
For what it counts, the dub was pretty good for a movie that is natively in French about a family in Iran. Again I'm sure the added bandwidth of the DD True HD soundtrack was unneccesary, but it doesn't hurt. :)

I thought it was pretty good. Earned itself an 80% and above ratings over at RottenTomatoes. Well, for me, I suppose both the Bank Job and The Usual Suspects would be on par with each other.
Just watched Dark Knight again, and I think I need to watch it the second time, just to get the rest of the hints and deliberate jokes from the Joker. I've seen who the Riddler was (though I hope The Riddler won't be the same guy in the next one. Heard they're asking Depp to play as him, but no confirms yet).
And not too long ago, Elizabethtown! Orlando Bloom was pretty good in it, I suppose. And Dunst played a really nice role of that cheerful-perky girl.

Recently watched The Blob, the 1988 remake of the old classic. I gotta admit at first I thought this movie was going to be just all out bad, but the special effects of the Blob eating and slowly sort of dissolving it's unlucky prey was pretty awesome. The screenplay was actually pretty good too, some funny pretty clever moments. Another interesting tidbit is that one of the main characters Meg was Amanda (apprentice girl) from the Saw series. Definitely a good b-movie to watch, it's rating (in terms of b-movies) would land it a 5/5.

5 Star Film!
The Orphanage
With fond memories of the seaside orphanage where she was raised, Laura (Belén Rueda) persuades her husband (Fernando Cayo) to help her revamp it as a facility for disabled children. But once they move in, their son Simón (Roger Príncep) begins to exhibit dark and disturbing behavior. As Laura tries to understand Simón's increasingly malevolent actions, she becomes drawn into the house's terrifying secrets in this gothic chiller.
Great film! Check it out if you speak/understand Spanish or don't mind subtitles.

They need to make the Riddler believable like everyone else is, get him back in his nice suit. I think that would be cool. Have it be the last Batman movie with Bale/Nolan as well, because I want to see other projects by them and not just batman for the next few years.

From what I understand, the Riddler was supposed to be Anthony Michael Hall, the reporter who was talking to the snitch, Reese, but this was changed. Where is everyone getting the idea that the accountant Reese is going to be the Riddler? I think it's just a very viral rumour. The Riddler only ever had the names E. Nigma, Edward Nashton, and Eddie Nashton, never Reese. Granted, the REPORTER's name is Mike Engle, which bares similarities to Nigma in certian fashions...

But the movie has changed a lot on Batman, hasn't it? Like...the Joker wasn't exactly suppose to be like that in the movie (then again, this varies from the different writers they had for their comics, etc), and Bruce doesn't have people like Lucius Fox to come up with the gadgets for him.
So I was thinking, if they have made lots of changes in the story, why not change The Riddler as well? After all, it's pretty much like a revamp of everything with better changes than the last few movies.
Actually, The Orphanage has a different director. Its producer is the director of Pan's Labyrinth (Guillermo del Toro).

NUTS.
Finished movies.
Sea of Love 3 out of 5, good movie, good pace, GREAT Al Picino. Has a great twist at the end.
Clockers 4 out of 5, great movie, good pace...it was an 80/20 movie. 80% AWESOME and 20% bleh. See this movie if you haven't! Funny in some spots too.
The Thief of Bagdad 3 out of 5, classic movie from 1940. It was funny to see white people playing Arabs. It had a pretty decent pace and was entertaining. Nothing mind blowing about it. The trailer that is on the DVD for the movie is funny "filmed in TECHNO COLOR!"
Perfect Stranger 3 out of 5, okay movie, okay pace, wasn't terrible. We do get to see some great side boob though.
Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay 3 out of 5, really funny in some spots, really not funny in a lot of others. Over all a good movie because the last 20 minutes of the movie where the best. Ended really well.
Naqoyqatsi 3 out of 5, this is a really artsy film. Reeeaaalll artsy. The kind of movie you lie to your friends to and say "oh yeah I got what the director was trying to say".

4/5.
I really liked that movie until it threw the sci fi out the window and turned into a random slasher film around the end
Yea, seriously. When it got to that point in the film, I was like "Wait... what the #### is going on?!"

I FINALLY went to see The Dark Knight. It was pretty interesting because I thought the movie was going to end when they got Joker and put him in jail. I wasn't expected the rest after that. Also, I thought Two Face was being set up as the villian for the next movie.
After that, I went to see Tropic Thunder. I really liked it. One of the best comedies I've seen in a while.

####! I just typed up some #### about Munich but I got angry and accidentally deleted it. This movie makes me want to smash my ####ing keyboard. Twenty minutes in and all it is is a bunch of Jews crying about being victims of the horrible Palestinian beasts. #### you, Spielberg! The Israelis are no better Palestinians. I can't describe how angry this movie makes me. I'm gonna go finish watching it while cheering on the Palestinians.
Irreversible - 4/5 NetFlix Stars <3 French cinema.Plays out in reverse, like Memento, but with really chaotic camera works that adds a lot to the film. Dark and seedy, can get brutal at times. Excellently adds insult to injury several times. Can't decide which is more heinous, the events within the film, or the outcome. Monica Bellucci is absolutely gorgeous.

Yeah he is, his movie "Seven Samurai" probably the best movie ever made ,with others of his creations, he really is a legend.
Went watch The Dark Knight with my mom. 5/5. I must say that I thought Batman Begins was completely overhyped and not very good. This, I found completely different, the action was god, the acting (expecially ledgers) was great, the writing was awesome, and I found it an awesome movie overall.
I find it ironic that they didn't kill the joker, probably because they wanted to use him again at some point, I guess Ledger screwed that up though
Even so, I doubt they will mind with the killing they made.
I also see where the flurry of articles saying that this made the republican approach make sense came from. And I will say that sure, the "Batman method" works great, if you happen to be an incorruptible comic superhero without ambitions or interests in a comic book world. A point often overlooked.

^ Can't tell whether you actually like it or not like it. 0.o
I like it, reminded of the first Blair Witch. I think not many people enjoyed it because pretty much everyone else is exposed to those typical horror shows. =/
Cloverfield tried a different approach and I must say, it was a very good one. The fact that they were able to depict fear was quite interesting.
I mean, most horror shows focuses on a group of people who either wants to escape and ends up saving the world or they just want to escape and just that. Cloverfield, on the other hand, has a bunch of unfortunate and unwilling people following this idiot who wants to go off to save his girl from an apartment.
It has suspense, and you wouldn't know where those things might strike. And in a way, it seemed more real. To me, I was able to accept it easily simply because it was shot in such a way that it was meant to be on a normal person's level. We all could easily relate to it because that's pretty much how we all would react if something like that were to happen.
So yes, in a nutshell, it has that element of realism in it. That's what makes it exceptional from most horror-monster movies I've watched.

So, what do you guys watch? I recently got into watching TV again after years of neglect (watching certain things here and there), and I usually tune into these:
The Discovery Channel
Dirty Jobs, How It's Made, MythBusters, Deadliest Catch, the various documentaries, and I'm excited for this new series called Time Warp, since I like looking at things on the high-speed cameras.
Animal Planet
The various documentaries, It's Me or the Dog (Season Premiere tonight :D), Weird, True & Freaky, Untamed and Uncut, and sometimes The Most Extreme
History Channel
Cities of the Underworld, various documentaries...hmm...I think that's it.
Food Network
Good Eats (FTMFW), Ace of Cakes, Iron Chef America (sometimes), Everyday Italian (<3), Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, Guy's Big Bite, Tyler's Ultimate, 30-Minute Meals...
Discovery Health
Mystery Diagnosis (so awesome).
FX
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (since day one, baby :D)
I usually only watch TV to learn; learning is always fun :D That's pretty much why I don't watch many shows, with the exception of Sunny.

Saw Quarantine over the weekend. I liked it, but now I want to see REC. Most emotions of the uninfected are believable. The shrieks of the infected inhabitants sent chills down my spine.
Earlier this week I picked up the Day of the Dead remake. Not good for much unless you enjoy picking apart bad movies.
Dark City Director's Cut. I loved the original and the director's cut added just enough to the story and characters to make it a better movie.
13: Game of Death/Beloved. I liked this one a lot. Definitely funnier than I expected it to be.
Diary of the Dead. I know it's Romero and all, but since I hold his Dead movies to higher standards than those of remakers and imitators I have to say this is his worst Dead film to date.
Event Horizon: I've seen this one hundreds of times since it was released, but haven't watched it in the past couple years. I should admit that I watched it in anticipation for Dead Space. Still one of my favorites.
The Happening. I know people like to bash M. Night, but I think this is one of his better movies. The gore is there along with the suspense, but the twist is just a little underwhelming.
MOH: Family. One of my favorite MOH along with The Screwfly Solution and The Damned Thing. Creepy and eerie through most of it with a pretty awesome twist.
I've also been watching a lot of Scare Tactics. I love the ones where dudes try to fight and the actors have to hold them back.

This weekend I watched Batman Begins and The Dark Knight again, and I thoroughly enjoyed both as much as the first time. It helps that I'm a comic fanatic because I can see where casual fans would be like "What?" in many parts of both films. Also, looking at the back of the DVD covers pointed out to me how long both films really are. I guess I never noticed initially, on account of liking them so much. Another movie I viewed was Lady in White for the first time (on the recommendation of my roommate) and I found myself enjoying it immensely. Of all the movies I've seen as a child, I have no idea how I never saw that one until a few days ago. Speaking of b-movies (which I probably love more than any mortal should), I watched Santa Claus Conquers the Martians for kicks. That movie is completely ridiculous on so many levels. For one, it has the most effective news coverage known to man. This news coverage was not only able to ascertain that two children were kidnapped by aliens in less than 24 hours, but they also had their complete names to report. For the rest, you're just going to have to be brave and try to trudge through the movie =)

I watch Judge Judy religiously like she's my own grandma or soemthin'.
I just appreciate good ole fashioned common sense.
Oh, awesome! It's not often I find a fellow Mistie! Did you by any chance get the original volume 10 before it was recalled? I'm still kicking myself for not realizing there would be an issue since they put a Godzilla movie on it.
I don't have any of it....

you'd be surprised how many mst3k fans there are. i am a purist, though, and am lucky that kaki is the same. this house has a strict "NO MIKE" rule.
what i've watched lately: terminator, role models, "in treatment" on hbo, forgetting sarah marshall, i tried to rent six feet under but got disc FOUR instead of ONE... dumb :/

I tried watching The Descent on SciFi but I just got way too uncomfortable. I can deal with getting scared/grossed out but IRL I can't stand closed-in places where you can't see the sky and can get trapped, so when they mention their lights would be going out soon I'd had enough (and the monsters hadn't even appeared yet!). I flipped back occaisonally but I didn't catch the ending. Since it's a horror movie, and the creatures they were going up against had adapted to that environment, I'm guessing that only two or none of them survived.

I watched Never Surrender not too long ago. For those of you who don't know, the cast is mainly comprised of UFC World Champions (Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, Georges "Rush" St-Pierre, BJ "The Prodigy" Penn, Anderson Silva.)
Sure, they lure you in with all these well known, popular fighters. I figured that the acting would be horrible in this movie (Silva doesn't even speak english...) but I was hoping that the fight scenes would be somewhat entertaining (or at least accurate.)

I've been rewatching the first season of Heroes lately, just two more episodes to go. It's not been much more than year since I watched it for the first time, so I'm surprised over how little I remember. It keeps the series just as fresh and exciting as then.
After those two episodes, I guess I'll start watching the second season like I never could do earlier. Every show ever becomes at least worse after the first season, no matter how brilliant the first was.
Also, Sylar is as hot as ever!

Saw 'District-9' couple days ago and I REALLY liked it, definitely can't wait to see more from Blompkamp.
Really want to see District 9. The last movie I saw at the theater was Funny People. It was pretty hilarious regardless of the questionable final act.
Looking forward to seeing The Final Destination on Friday. Those movies are always amazingly bad. So funny. PLUS 3D
Show-wise I'm looking forward to season three of Breaking Bad, season four of Venture Bros, and the final season of Lost.

I hope it's OK to bump this one, instead of starting a new thread...
I've decided to watch all of the James Bond movies. So far I'm up to the 4th movie, Thunderball.
I know, what a genius idea.
I tried that last year in January, I got up to Moonraker (1979) and got sidetracked. I also watched the 1954 Climax! TV episode of Casino Royale, and the remake to Thunderball, Never Say Never Again.
I've really watched jack on movies this year, I think I just hit ~70, with Revenge of the Nerds (1-4.) I was trying to do a Shaw Brothers marathon in September, but I only got 14 movies done (I was trying for one a day.)
I may have been slow on movies, but TV has been craaaazy! I am around 1300 episodes for the year, I recently watched all of Stargate SG-1, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Angel.
Right now, I am finishing up Yu Yu Hakusho season 4.
October Post-Season Baseball.
I love this time of year.

Just watched Avatar on IMAX 3D.
Story was only ok, but at least it was told well in Cameron's capable hands.
Visually, it was absolutely gorgeous. Definitely worth seeing in IMAX 3D, since visual is really the reason you want to watch this movie anyway.
IMAX 3D gives me a major headache, and Avatar looks like a too bright two hour screensaver. Probably gonna skip on it.
I've been watching The League on Hulu. Seriously one of the funniest new shows I've seen in a long time.

It was the greatest show, for sure. Wish they still showed it on TV, but I guess it became hard to justify giving a 2-hour long timeslot to reruns, heh.

I loved the games but the anime was still medoicre because to me it seemed to focus on the side characters too much.
We bought Tokko and even though we only watched the first episode, it looks awesome. My only complaint is the art is a bit lacking, otherwise interesting.
