Movie Watched: Afro Samurai
------
Netflix Synopses;
In a futuristic Japan where conflicts are settled by the sword, Afro Samurai (voiced by Samuel L. Jackson) must avenge his father's murder by challenging a powerful warrior named Justice (Ron Perlman) in this anime miniseries. If he can defeat Justice, considered the premier samurai, Afro will become the new No. 1. He's joined on his quest by Ninja Ninja, who provides excellent strategic advice in combat -- but who also may be a hallucination.
------
It was a pretty fun cartoon/anime, nicely done artwork. I enjoyed it, giving it a 3 out 5 on the Netflix stars system.
Holla.

I caught an interesting movie on Showtime that I had never heard of before.
Movie watched: The Movie Hero
Netflix synopsis;
In his feature film debut, director Brad T. Gottfred delivers a spoof of cinema cliches with a memorable protagonist named Blake Gardner (Jeremy Sisto), who believes his life is a movie. Playing to an audience only he perceives -- and determined to entertain them -- Blake recruits a comical black sidekick (Brian J. White), attempts to apprehend the bad guy (Peter Stormare) and begins romancing his court-appointed psychotherapist (Dina Meyer).
I gave it a 3 out 5 stars on the Netflix scale, it was surprisingly entertaining and enjoyable. It had a decent pace. Good stuff, check it out?

I'm just very picky on what I consider a 4 or a 5 star movie. I will say that every 3 I hand out it's because I truly did enjoy the movie that was being played in front of me. I'm not a movie snob who needs to be educated or bored to death with every cinematic experience.
But again, I don't just willy nilly hand out them 4 and 5 stars. When you see me do so, know it's a great or awesomely amazing movie experience.

But isn't a 3 now a 6 or 7 and a 4 now an 8 or 9? I personally like the 3 star system. It's either a 4 or it's not. It's not a 3.5.
My friend is the type that will list which movies a director has done. For a crap load of directors. I can only rattle off a few of the big name directors movies and even then just the big movies they did. I'm not a big IMDB freak by any means, probably visited the site less than 10 times.

Juno definitely was a quirky comedy and not a slap stick'ish comedy as it was marketed originally to be. At least that is how I perceived it before I saw it in the theaters with a group of friends. And no I didn't watch any trailers on the net which probably would have told me a different story then what I saw of commercials doing a quick snip it.

Yeah I saw you post that earlier, it's too bad you hated it. I really like how well they mixed the sound track in with the movie (obviously an original score). Epic Movie was horrible, but the Comebacks was even worse, not to mention boring as hell. Dont think I'll be seeing anymore spoof movies since the last two I saw were complete crap.

^Not at all. It talks about his beginnings in car safety against GM, all the way up until the 2004 election. It has various people telling of their experiences with him, both speaking for and against Ralph Nader. It does a fairly decent job of staying unbiased to a point, unlike most documentaries today. It's a good watch for everyone, as it does show everything that Ralph Nader has done for this country, despite the fiasco of the 2000 election, which was not 100% his fault that Gore lost. You can watch it on NetFlix, so check it out.
It also talks about on how the Democratic party when to absolute #### in the 80's and became a collection of not as far right douche bags pandering to corporate sponsors.

Gravion Zwei - Never saw the first one and thought I'd give this series a try. My mistake in looking for a heavy plot in this one. Some fan service and lot of cliche Voltroneque action. Too little plot to make me want to watch the second disc.
Stardust - WOW. I'm a fan of a fantasy series and I thought they gave this story just the right blend of magic to story to keep it fun and believeable. The air pirate captain had me and my wife laughing like crazy and the story was awesome. Two big thumbs up from our household.
Green Green Co-Ed Casualties - Wince I seem to have hit a run of anime I just can't dig... This one had soooo much fan service. The male characters were sooo obsessed this boobies and everything else that goes along with that testosterone filled part of a guys life. There was a story there buried under all the rest but even after three episodes it seemed a bit hard to dig out...

Really good film, I liked it a lot. I saw a later showing at 9:30 pm and I usually get tired when I'm watching a film in a theater that late. I didn't get tired once, movie kept me entertained throughout the picture.
4 out of 5 easily.
The worst though was waiting for the all the credits roll, easily 5 minutes worth just to see a 30 second glimpse of what the sequel will look like.

Finally finish Alien 3 last night... fell asleep on it twice before. Weak ass movie just like everyone said, kinda regret rebuying the quadrilogy, but Iw anted to see for myself anyway. Is Resurrection better or worse?
Also I finished watching the 3rd season of Six Feet Under last week, weakest season so far, about to start the 4th season now. I probably should jsut bite the bullet and pay the extra $6 to get it from Amazon, but my cheapness doesn't permit it.

Good flick, very entertaining. I also liked seeing Patrick Fugit, the guy from Almost Famous (who was a 16 year old kid in the movie).

Trapped in an alternate world populated by suicide victims, a band of souls tries to find an escape route in Goran Dukic's quirky fantasy. Although he took his own life, Zia (Patrick Fugit) isn't ready for such a grim hereafter, particularly when he learns that his ex-girlfriend also killed herself. Oz Season 5 Disc 3. Season was short, only 8 episodes. This disc has 2 episodes total. This disc didn't have as much cock, but it still had a decent amount. In fact, I think season 5 pretty much every character at one point or another was trying to get their dick on the screen. Maybe because everyone knew they the show was about to be canceled (one season left), so they figured "hey I want to world to see my junk". Perhaps.

I agree re: the movie, but I don't think it's Ford's fault or the lack of Nazis. It just wasn't a very good script, and half the concepts in it had no place in an Indiana Jones movie.

After Die Hard 4 though, I'm ready for disappointment.
As silly as that movie was, it at least had a good chemistry between Bruce Willis and Justin Long, which made that movie a lot more entertaining than it had any right to be. In Indiana Jones 4, there is not even such chemistry between Harrison Ford and Shia LaBeouf, so the movie just stays being silly.
Anyway, I went in with a very, very muted expectation, mainly because 1) the trailers looked BAD, and 2) Harrison Ford's appearances on David Letterman and Conan O'Brien gave me the vibe that he himself didn't give a crap about the movie. And I came out mildly entertained, much thanks to keeping my expectation low.
It's been said that Harrison Ford et al were waiting for a script that everybody could agree on. It's clear that what they agreed on was, "Let's get this over with. If we wait for any more rewrites, we won't have any movie at all because Harrison will be too old." :x

I Spit On Your Grave!
I saw this years ago.....How did you like it?
I liked it. 3/5 NetFlix stars. I didn't think the rape scene was as brutal as it's made out to be. In 1978, absolutely. In 2008, no. Of course, as I said earlier, I'm probably too desensitized. The rape scene in The Hill Have Eyes remake hit me harder, though that's probably because it's a deformed monster doing it and I really dig the actress. The bathtub scene was my favorite part, btw.
Blood, violence, lots of tit shots. I dug it.
DS, dude, how gay is the main character in Bronx Warriors? lol I couldn't take him at all seriously. Apparently, they found him in some gym in Italy. Also, it was filmed entirely in NYC, mainly the Bronx. So all those run down, desloate neighborhoods were the real thing.

I saw Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull yesterday; it was an excellent movie. I feel that the addition of the new characters fit perfectly with the old films, and the atmosphere was great. When Harrison Ford put on his fedora and whip, it was just like the old Indy.

I too went and saw Indiana Jones, this is the first Indy movie i've watched all the way through so there wasn't any nostalgia factor for me, it was an ok movie.
I also watched Superman Doomsday, it was a pretty cool movie, I just wish it followed more closely to the Reign of the Supermen story arc.

Juno is very... out there. It's definitely a film who's target audience is early teen/ late teen girls while still being universally applicable. I enjoyed it the 1st time through, because it had some interesting writing and subtle wit, but the 2nd time through was boring. I guess a good word for Juno is... cute. It's no masterpiece.

The first time I saw Juno I liked it, good writing and great acting. Besides, Vern Schillinger (the character from Oz) was in it!

Le Scaphandre et le Papillon (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly).
Sad movie. ;__;
Regarding the new Indy movie, I think it was quite...all right. Perhaps it's just because of Cate Blanchett and her oh-so-sexy outfit and hair. And her sword was cool, too bad they didn't give her more sword-fight scenes.
And the song! The theme song! I'm surprised they didn't try to make it go on and on like Ironman. XD
I've never been a fan of Shia, so...well, his involvement in this movie was...quite...well, I was really disappointed. I suppose that when you hate the actor, you tend to hate the movie, in a way, especially when that actor plays a big role in the movie.
Oh well. Anyone watched "Once" yet? It's nice. :D

Haha, I liked Juno, but I can agree that it is definitely more of a girl's/woman's movie. There were only two big problems with it that I saw, and one of them wasn't really the movie's fault.
1. Some of the dialogue was really off. "Honest to blog?" What teenager actually ####ing says that?
2. I think it should have been billed as more of a quirky coming-of-age story than a comedy, because comedy has more of a laugh-out-loud connotation to it. There weren't that very many of those moments, but it did have a lot of off-beat charm and a few parts that I smiled at.
Anyway:
Crazy Eights (one of the 8 films to die for, 2007): Lame. Mediocre and forgettable in pretty much every regard: acting, plot, make-up effects, ending, pacing... Also not bad enough to be entertaining at all. 2/5.
Reincarnation (one of the 8 films to die for, 2006): I wasn't expecting much after the last movie, and since I haven't been impressed too much with some of the other popular Japanese horror movies, but I was pleasantly surprised. It wasn't a masterpiece by any means, compared to The Ring/Ringu, The Grudge/Ju-On series, and Suicide Club (both US and Japanese versions), it was a pretty interesting ghost story with a good atmosphere. 3/5.
Zombies Anonymous: When I rented this, I was expecting cheesy B-movie "lolhorror" as Saycke put it, and I was surprised. It's definitely a B-movie, and that shows in the cinematography and some of the actors (crazy zombie-hating bitch in particular)... but there were a few good actors (heroine, abusive boyfriend) that were good, and I loved the concept of it. There's also a huge amount of action in the second half of the movie, which was impressive for its budget.
It's about a girl that is killed by her abusive boyfriend and becomes a zombie due to a virus. Since the virus is so widespread, however, a huge chunk of the population is Undead, and instead of burning them or blowing out their brains, they have these hesitant quasi-rights similar to what blacks in the US had before the 1960s. She joins a support group for the Undead, and buys Look Alive face cream, etc. to try to fit in better; meanwhile, her boyfriend joins what is essentially the zombie-hating version of the KKK. 4/5.
The Mist: I had heard mixed reviews about this, but I liked it. Some of the dialogue was unnatural (the director should have had King's input with the screenplay IMO), and the first ten minutes are slow, but the atmosphere is great. The best part of the movie is the ending, which is great for a big-budget horror movie in this decade. 4/5.
Next on the list:
Black Sheep. THERE ARE 40 MILLION SHEEP IN NEW ZEALAND, AND THEY'RE PISSED OFF!

I just saw Black Sheep two weeks ago, picked it up on a whim from blockbuster. Basically, if you liked Dead Alive you will like this to a degree.
The makers of Black Sheep tried to capture the Dead Alive feeling and at times they succeeded but there were some scenes where it fell short. Although getting sheep to play along couldn't have been easy.
There are plenty of scenes that will make you 'lol' but there are also some that didn't quite work; especially the 'lolfart' jokes.
Overall though it was an entertaining horror comedy and recommended if you like the genre.

This bothered me too. I think FOX Searchlight called it a comedy because they called "Little Miss Sunshine" a comedy. With the way they marketed Juno and it's 1st time writer Diablo Cody, it's very apparent that they were hoping for the same success that LMS got. Truth is, Juno just isn't as good as LMS on many levels, especially writing. Honest to blog.

I ended up watching 27 Dresses with my girlfriend, and I'm still sticking with my whole "I don't believe in romantic comedies because they usually aren't funny" statement. Took my brother to see Iron Man today, pretty good movie, we stayed 'til after the credits to see Nick Fury mention the Avengers, which we thought either means there's going to be an Avengers movie, or they will be the focus of Iron Man 2, plus we thought that War Machine would likely be in the sequal.

Finished watching the first disc of Lost last night, John is cool. There seems to be a lot of cool characters in this series, I guess that's why people enjoy it so much. One thing that bothers me is that there many people ont he island that you never even see talking, I hope they dig deeper into the rest of the people, or maybe they will just kill them off, guess I will find out soon enough.

Watched GTO Live Drama eps 2-12 (the series was very good), the collection also has the movie on it as well, so I watched that for the 3rd time.
Then I watched the Midori Days series again.
Star Ocean EX seemed to follew the game pretty closely with minimal changes at first, but by Eps 10 they go astray, least Rena looks cute in the anime, too bad she only ever heals and never uses any of her other spells from the game though, same with Claude (they pronounce his name funny sounds like they're saying Cloud) Claude finally learns 'Air Slash', I would of liked to of seen more variety in used skills and spells in the series not just re-hash of the same thing over and over.
Also the Blue Gender Movie 'The Warrior' is garbage. They juast took scenes from the series and rehashed them into a movie changing the plot here and there, I found myself Fast Forwarding through most of it.

I'm watching Hercules The Legendary Journeys with Kevin Sorbo, starting from season one. I loved that show as a teenager and it is rather amusing to see again. One of my goals is to count how many times Iolas dies during the series. So far my count is up to only 1, but I'm only halfway through the first season. I was always under the impression that he dies many times back when I watched it occasionaly on TV, and that every time Hercules does something to bring him back.

Saw II:
Hmmph. I knew what to expect, something oddball'ishly fun. And I guess it was.
So I liked it. I didn't love it. I definitely wouldn't buy or watch the movie again this year.
But I would tell someone to watch it if they were bored and wanted to be entertained. It was scary or suspenseful at all. So I wouldn't call it a horror or suspense movie.
But with that said. I would rate the movie 2 out of 5 on pure entertainment value alone. One time entertainment value. Again, I'll watch Groundhogs day EVERYTIME its on TV. Same with Big Trouble in Little China.

Agreed on Oz. I'm glad I finally finished the series.
Finished up Death Wish last night. What a fantasticly fun movie from the 70s. I really dig the 1970's Hollywood cinema. They churned out a lot of fun sci-fi/action movies. Good times had by all for sure and Death Wish is another one of those great 70's classics. It has a good pace for the length of it's 90 minutes.
I'm also a big fan of 90 minute movies. When did Hollywood decide we needed to sit down for another 30 minutes? Sure for some 'stories' they are telling it is essential. But for an action movie? No thanks, 90 minutes is fine.

I just got Devil May Cry volume 2 and listened to the English version. (warning... SPOILERS) Wow, Dante used the 'f-' word! I had to rewind that part to make sure I heard him right. I always figured he had a dirty mouth (he spouts f-words left to right in my fanfics, lol). Strantely, I wish the games Capcom would let him use those words often since he's exactly that type of guy who would. I was glad in DMC3 he actually used the word 'pi**ed.'
There was also a *very* homoerotic moment in that episode, with the jailer licking his lips and talking about Dante's firm body. Yeah, the jailer was demon, but what he said after that statement made me wonder if he wanted Dante for dinner or in the bed sack.
