Can anyone who played the asian version tell me what kind of character creation we can expect. I mean stuff like selecting gender, hair style, color and whatever else. For me creating a character just makes the game more personnal and more enjoyable.

You have control over all of that when you're creating your character as well as some pretty good control over the facial features.

Here's an example of what you're capable of doing during character creation. http://dic.nicovideo.jp/v/sm6048066

DAMN! that just made my day. Kind of remind me of the options in Oblivion, you could spend hours to get everything the way you want. Now I want this game even more. Thanks.

For those not watching the vid (especially those averse to pure japanese text). The character creation screens for appearance function exactly like those in Oblivion and Fallout 3. You are able to chose gender, hair style and color, and control every tiny aspect of facial appearance with numerous slider bars.

Statistical generation is fixed however. You get to chose from a set of ten starting classes. The only differences between each of them is which skills they start with points in, and which equipment and spells they start with. Eventually, all "origins" reach precisely the same destination, so while they cannot be changed later, they only alter how you play out your first few levels.

Wikipedia & the official japanese website just list 10 classes Knight, Priest, Thief, Magician, Temple Knight, Soldier, Wanderer, Barbarian, Royal, Hunter want are the other classes?
just pm me if it a spoiler.

No, its just ten. But like I said, they are only starting configurations. For example, the Knight starts with 10 Vitality and 11 willpower and fluted armor, while the Royal starts with 8 vit and 12 will and magician armor and the spell, soul arrow. However, all stats can eventually be raised to 99 in any order you choose, and all equipment exists somewhere in the game to find and spells to buy.

So far I got a trophy for killing the boss of each level.

This website has the best info for Demons Souls (as mentioned above)

Yeah, the Demon's Souls wikidot is easily the next best thing to having the Perfect Guide. I used that to create a plan of attack for my ore hunts.

I love that it has this feature. I know this doesnt really have to do with the subject at hand but does this game really play like Oblivion? I've heard Demon's Soul being compared to it.

It's like Oblivion but with a few important changes:

-The feeling of dread
-Your character (in third person) doesn't look like they're drifting across the ground
-Weapons and armor have more of a sense of weight

And probably most importantly, enemies dish out a lot more damage. This is much more tactical than Oblivion. But I think your main concern lies in this: yeah, it plays mostly the same :)

Anyone have anything to add to this?

I got mad-pissed at the game the second time I turned it on. The second level is the real start of the player-brutality. Long story short (and spoiler-free), I played it for quite awhile and had to quit because I was feeling angry and discouraged. The next day, I farmed some souls, upgraded stats and equipment, and the day after, I tried again and won!

Very frustrating, but very rewarding. I'm just saying you might not want to call in. Two-to-three hour doses are probably all you can handle and remain sane. Or maybe it's just me...

@mccrackey: haha yes I have heard this game is pretty tough, but that's good for me. I love a challenge.

If its like that when I played persona 3 on hard and kept getting killed by the same boss over again I won't stop til I get it right lol even if it did take 4 freaking hours omg it was a beast.

so I watched the vid and saw different races but I didnt see many hair styles anyone who has it are there a lot or just generic?

I didn't count, but I'd estimate between 8 and 10 hairstyles. Seemed like the females had more than males, but again, it's a little fuzzy in my mind.

Fairly generic hairstyles, though you can adjust the hue and the brightness. The face-gen does nothing but generate really fugly people, so you pretty much have to manufacture everything about your character, which luckly it has good controls.

It's a good face generator, you could create pretty much anyone. It would help if you knew what you wanted your character to look like before you started. You can also make totally white deathly characters and options to completely change the colour of skin to weird green or purple. There's no body height or muscle or pointy ears options, though unfortunately.

I had to get heaps of reference of people that look like good Knights, lol.

It has ten or so base classes, but you can build them up however you like to fit different architypes.

Hey does anyone who's played it know if there's a good selection of armour in this game? Is it all Medieval European? What helm and chest armour variations does it have?

Is there Gladiator helmets? Knight Helmets? Spartan armour? Assassin hoods? Ranger light armour? Wizard robes?

You can definitely check all that stuff out on the wiki at demonssouls.wikidot.com :) Most of them even have pictures, showing vaguely what the items will look like when equipped. There's a pretty good variety of armor if you know where to look for it.

The character creation is definitly robust, although its not as detailed as say Mass Effect you can still make somoen who looks similiar to you or something else.

I have made a character resembleming the Incredible Hulk :]

My wife loves games that give you loads of character creation options. When we played FFXI together she made loads of new characters so she could play with the creation part.(even though it wasn't as in depth as this) Looks like I may be waiting awhile to play if she decides to create my character for me.

You can choose any character class it has no effect on the game as you build them all up to 99stats anyways. I have mad 4 chars and by lvl 54 they all have same stats anyways. Its nothing like sacred 2 for example where a class is different. Class's here just allow magic to be used right off bat or not. So if you use a barbarian you have to wait a whole 30 mins to get a wand and magic. Kind of pointless. As far as character looks, well your never going to see them as they will be covered in armor untill you get to new game+++ where your better off running around naked as armor does nothing for you at all.

Pretty much for any RPG game you play, you cannot rush through it. You need to take time and level up your character stats, equipment , and skills/spells, then move on.

You say that but in theory you could not level up at all and still beat the game, provided you were skilled enough. It would make an already challenging game even harder, but it is doable; that's the beauty of the game.

I'd pay good money to see someone beat the game taking no damage at all and not levelling.

True, that is similar to the three heart challenge in The Legend of Zelda. But there are some games you will have to level up in order to bare the more powerful enemies that can do 2-400 damage or even thousands.

Indeed. This isn't one of them, however.

I saw a screencap of someone with a comleted save with no levelups. Respect. Looks like he did it Offline, but respect nonetheless.

Now that is what I call interesting. Another game where you could in theory not level up and still beat the game is Aidyn Chronicles: The First Mage. Just increase your stats and get good spells/skills/ and equipment and that is it. Levels only give you bonus hit ponits which you do not really need. But the way the mechanics are, you cannot stop your self from leveling up. But you could beat the game at a low level.

this video shows a Korean player beating one of the toughest demon in the game, False King using a soul level 1 character.

since his level is so low, he had to wield his weapon using 2 hand in order to compensate for the lack of strength (note: you get +50% strength when wielding a weapon with 2 hands). so that make thing even more difficult.

in the below video, it show him in New Game+, still at soul level 1. so he does indeed complete the entire game with a level 1 character. also, take note that he had 2 friends who are at soul level 1 as well. he even chat with one of them during the boss fight!

We beat it on level 15 easily, isnt hard once you have logged enough hours in the game to learn enemys movement patterns. lvl 1 though is a little silly, takes too many hits. The guys in the video may have also de-leveled using the well known trick. lvl 1- shld do 2 points damage i would assume.

the de-level trick will never reduce your Vitality.
also, he had shown the character stats screen to prove to you that all his stats is exactly as it should be. no luck -99 kinda of cheat.

a Royal starting Vitality is 8, you have to keep it at 8 throughout the game.

he is using a Blessed Mace +5. this weapon will do a few points of damage only if he wield it with 1 hand. as you can see, he had to wield it in 2 hand in order to do decent damage.

there is another Korean player (which i think is a even better player) who defeat the False King at soul level 1. but this time, at less than 30% HP.
