Alright, I may look like a complete idiot asking this... But where do you get different weapons? I've seen people talk about using axe-type weapons... I thought you can only use a sword? Moreover, can you BUY weapons, instead of just upgrading at Victor's?
as long as I'm asking questions, is there a place you can buy bird limes?

You can technically only use swords, however there are three different variations of swords: Blades, Spears, and Axes, corresponding to the type of special attack the weapon has. Blades have an area attack that hits anyone near Raidou, Spears have a multi-hit thrusting attack, and axes have a powerful charge attack that hits a large area in front of him.
And no, you can't buy swords, if you want new ones Victor is going to be your primary source for them. You can however occasionally get some from case files (though in most cases you have to trade for another sword), and you can also find numerous basic Renki swords in various places that you can upgrade as you wish.
Birdlime's are bought at Konnou-Ya in Tsukudo-cho, or from the merchant in the Fukoshi village.

Thanks a lot for the quick reply :)
How do I make more weapons available? I'm on the third chapter, and I've only had one upgrade made available to me. Do more become available over time, or do I have to do something specific?

There's actually no limit on when you can upgrade as long as you have the materials. Have you tried checking the sword alchemy option again since the first time?

I check it every time I go to the Den. For some reason, the only option I have is my current sword (150 attack, and + to healing items) :/

You are going to have to choose an upgrade before you will get more options to upgrade. You get three choices, one choose one, then you get three more.

Its also worth noting that previous stats on swords will move over to the new sword. For example, if you upgrade to a sword that gives you +3 Str, and then upgrade it again later, that +3 Str will move over to the new sword.
In other words, the swords are stackable, the only time something doesn't move over is the special skill of the sword, for example Halves Phy dmg would get replaced if you upgrade the new sword to something with lets say...Boost MAG.

when fighting enemies that use swords in the Training hall, there is a chance they will drop Reinkei swords. these are the base building blocks for each sword type, the more gems you fuse to them, the more options become available to you.
i've been using an axe-type sword that absorbs half of all phys-type damage and has 300st since late ch3.

I've been using that axe with Vengeance Seal. It's a decent weapon, actually, but it doesn't protect against being Stoned to death.
At any rate, do watch your money if you manage to get a bunch of Renkis from the Training Halls. Unlike fusing demons, weapons cost money.
I forgot to watch what I was doing once.
