View Full Version : The price of Altus games

Has anyone noticed that whenever Altus releases a new game, no matter what it is. There always seems to be an increase of price for the other games on Amazon?
I'm mostly talking about SMT series. Now that DS2 is out, I've noticed that many of the games (including Nocturne and DS1) are now almost twice their price than from last week.
And to think I was saving some money to get a copy of Digital Devil Saga. :very_sad:

That's because new SMT games spark interest in other SMT games which causes them to rise in price.
I'm so glad I got DDS2 and Devil Summoner Raidou 1 new for $10 at Gamestop before people started jacking up prices.

Same I have always made sure to get the SMT games while they are low on price. Thank You Nocturne without you I would be suffering big time.

Yeah, I remember back in January after I beat Persona 4, I was looking for a new game. It was when Atlus sent out that "???" e-mail, and I figured it was devil summoner. So before they announced it, I went to gamestop and got it for 8.99, sadly without case or manual.
It pays to be active on the forum here, as well as being on the atlus faithful e-mail.

Go to half.com and see if you can get the game more complete.

In reality, that logic applies in the general sense, not just to one particular series such as SMT. Its an act of taking advantage of sparked interest/excitement.

I never said it didn't apply to other games. =\

Same here:D Back when I didn't own DDS 1 & 2 I asked GameStop if they had ANY games with Shin Megami Tensei on it, and they had Raidou vs. The Soulless Army for $9.99; I was elated even though I knew nothing of the game at the time.
Now that I think of it, though, Atlus USA deserves to raise the price of their newly released games. I would pay upwards of $60 for any of the MegaTen-related ones; that's for damn sure, and I know many others would do the same.

I was just trying to generalize and bring the point to light to everyone. Thats all.

Don't tell them that if you love your money

I am more than happy to pay extra when they do their preorder ones with goodies. I just hope they make a few extra bucks off the goodies we get. :D

Good for you. If you'd like, when ever a new Atlus title is released you wish to purchase, you can buy a copy from any retailer and send via paypal the exact same amount to the paypal addy I provide. That way you pay for two copies ensuring atlus gets twice the $$ they would if you'd only bought one. Logic fails as I'd no longer need to buy a copy with my own money but when has reason ever been popular?
But seriously, I doubt many would like paying even $5 more for a game if they had a choice. Times are tough as it is and prospects dont look so good in the future either. Think I'll stick with the $30-$50 I pay for new atlus titles already and let others try justifying $90 for unlimited limited edition released games.

^Agree absolutely! I don't have heaps of money lying around, and spoils are NOT what sells me on Atlus' titles.

I bought a few weeks ago an used copy of DS for 30$ in amazon and I'm glad I did because the lowest price right know is 45$ used, I think.

My general rule with games, is that if I think I want them at all, ESPECIALLY with Atlus games, I pick them up on release. Unfortunately, this has come back to bite me a few times... such as when I bought all three of the 360 strategy games released last year, and they all ended up under $10 new a few months later. (I still don't mind what I spent, though, it's just it's always a bit painful to know you spent $50 more than most people would... I still find they were worth the money anyway.)
Overall, I got lucky with most of the SMT games. I got Persona 3, Persona 4, Devil Summoner 2, and P3 FES on release. I found Digital Devil Saga 2 new at a local shop, and found DDS1 on eBay for $60, but before the reprint. (Worth $60 anyway, honestly... disappointed that I jumped on that when I did, but 'meh'.) I didn't get Devil Summoner: Soulless Army for $9.99, but I got it for $20. Last new copy in my area, for that matter. (This was May 2008, so it was still a good price then. Hell, had I known about it on release, I'd have bought it then...) Nocturne... well, moderately bad luck. I ordered a Limited Edition one on eBay, used, for about $90. Meaning it had the CD and the game. Sorta worth it, but it wasn't quite as good condition wise as I was told. Still good, works and all. The bad luck was, it arrived the very day I found out about the reprint. >.>; I did order a reprint copy as a backup, partially to support Atlus, partially because I wanted a spare in case the few scratches on the one from eBay were fatal (it'd truly suck to have it freeze up because of a scratch and leaving me SOL). Last but not least... I got extremely lucky and was able to obtain Persona 2: Eternal Punishment when there was that little 'reprint' event last year. I remember getting the email, and I actually ordered the thing on the unsecured Wifi at school, because I didn't want to miss out. Probably the best reckless decision ever, honestly, since I had it the Monday after somehow. And of course, I have a true rarity without having to spend $200. Either way, my main objective with any future SMT releases is to preorder them... because I'm not really willing to spend ridiculous amounts of money on something unless it's truly unobtainable... but I honestly prefer just getting it right the first time so I can buy more games, really...
