Playing MGS4.. not very far in to it at all.

I did finally go back to FFXII and finish the sidequests I had left to do and got the final clan rank. A couple weeks ago, I started Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter over from scratch and finally got a 1/4 D-Ratio on my second playthrough(I had been wanting to do that for years). Started Dragon Warrior VII over(lost/erased my old save file apparently) about a week ago and I just finished the Deja tribe quest. I don't think I had ever finished DW7 and I suppose it's just as well that I lost my save file because I barely remember anything story-wise. Now of course, it's mostly MGS4 and GTA4(picked that up last night).

^I should mention that I abused the hell out of SOL Restore at the end of my first playthrough against one of the last bosses to farm Party XP so I could get everyone to Level 50 in the main game and start Kokon Hooray at Level 30 for BOTH playthroughs. Took 50 restores and after that the only thing you have to worry about is getting the extra turn most of time and your play time on the next playthrough.

I'm about half an hour into MGS4 and I've played maybe five minutes of that. I understand Kojima originally wanted to get into film, but he's not ####ing in film, god damn it. Once I actually got to control Snake without a cutscene every ten steps, I lost interest and shut my Triple off to play DQIII. And what's with these lame ass live action bits scattered all over the place? They're out of place and really detract from the game itself. Also, Otacon needs to STFU and stop telling me what to do every five seconds. I've played video games before; I can figure this #### out myself. Srsly. I never liked him.

The first part of the game is pretty heavy into the cut scenes, then you get into a gameplay groove. The Mission Briefings in between acts are also all pretty long, but once you get going it gets better... until the end, which then is again heavy.

I'm killing a lot of Treefrogs.

I sucked it up and committed to retiring my Etrian Odyssey party and re-raising them to level 70. It's a pain, but the Claret Hollows and side quests should go a lot more smoothly after this.

One character for my main party to go: my alchemist. I'll probably finish the Dark Hunter afterwards and ignore the Hexer and Ronin, though. I love the game, but seriously, at this point I just want to be done with it.

Hitoshura
06-16-2008, 01:09 PM
Hmm... well I manually named everyone else aside from Aleph, so I guess maybe I've just killed too many Chaos-oriented enemies, but I have literally been slaughtering Mesians in the prison for about three hours now with no alignment shift.

Slight spoilers:

I didn't pay Puck for the Infidelilly Sap, but I didn't make him pay me either. I wasn't even thinking that it would affect alignment, but I'm going to guess that that gives you a pretty good shift considering how long I've been killing these damn Mesians.

Also, holy crap, most PS1 games are only 6 bucks (by most I mean all excluding SotN, which is still a #### collection compared to Japan's PSN)? I was expecting them to be 12 or so since the Virtual Console overprices #### like mad and Xbox Originals are 15 bucks. Wild ARMS for 6 bucks is like stealing. Oh well, I'm totally all over it. The World Ends With You. I am on the second week and digging it so far.

The graphics are the best I have seen in a DS game and the sprite work is amazing. lol at the character design though, I guess I am just not urban/japanese/whatever enough to appreciate it. I am not really feeling the music either, some tracks are okay but most of them really aren't my style.

I should probably continue my Dragon Force game, I've got over half of the continent conquered as Junon. This game rocks. (Despite having a few bugs on emu, I'm seriously considering getting a Saturn for this game.)

I'm also probably gonna try out Temple of Elemental Evil later today, I've been craving for a little D&D lately, but my friends and I haven't been able to play for a while. I still haven't progressed in Wizardry 8 though, since I was too busy with EO and kinda lost interest.

Haha, I'm not sure. Recently I told both Zain and Lucifer to #### off, and shortly after that I went into a Gaia temple to heal and didn't have to pay the 1000. Yeah, barring any odd glitches, you shouldn't have to worry about changing again. I don't think the alignment code had any problems like SMT1, where, in the final dungeon, my alignment shifted after I cleared half of it, and I got locked out of the other half.

I rolled from Neutral (no other way to play, imo) to Law. I'm sure you can figure out how. Though, I'm surprised the boss fights in the final dungeon would even have alignment code attached to them. Pissed me off when I went back to the entrance and I couldn't access either section.

I ended up using a code to lock me as neutral, but some things were already jacked (lost the ability to get the heroine's fusion sword).

Still MGS 4, like the controls better. Returned Eye of Judgment, Really like the Battlefield demo.

Did some more Lair. It's not bad, but.. meh..

Also, Mobile Suit Gundam Crossfire. The frame rate is terrible, and more coulda gone into the presentation, the enviroments are also sort of bland, but there is a nice variety of mobile suits, and they are fairly customizable within reasonable margins. They also more and behave pretty faithfully to the show and the game is lots of fun when you get into it.

I think a lot of bashing towards it comes from reviewers expecting Armored Core. Id say that its a fine discount game if into Gundam's UC at all. It's really not bad for a launch game, I'd give it a 7.

Started playing Valkyrie Profile 2 again. I don't like rushing through enemies that beat you up as you try to kill the leader. They should have kept the battle system the same since you sidescroll anyway.

But yeah... It's weird seeing characters from the first game show up when the story is set 100 years in the past?

Edit: Nevermind, the booklet says that Silmeria's getting into trouble was hundreds of years in the past.

Flußkönig
06-27-2008, 07:47 AM
^It is not weird at all considering the character appeared in the past (when VP2 takes place) in VP. But VP2 does take place before VP.

VP made it sound like certain characters (well one in particular) can't go to Valhalla so they just keep on reincarnating.

Yeah, but I was never sure if that was meant to refer to VP2 or something that could have happened before the events of VP2. Especially considering that [spoiler] the story in VP2 ends up playing out a little differently from what we see in VP. I remember something in the game mentioning that Hrist fought the undead and Brahms during her time as the active Valkyrie, but I am a little hazy on the details at this point.

The rest of the game was easy, as in all of it, it was just weird how much it jumped then. The main reason I complain is because (I think) the 2nd boss in that tier of final boss fights had an attack that instantly killed some of the members I had, and I couldn't revive them as quickly as they were dropping. I ended up abusing the game's quick-save feature (which I had only found out about after complaining about this boss to a friend) and reloading every other time he/she/it did that attack. There was nothing "tactical" about that fight, the only other answer was just to grind until they could resist it, and I wasn't about to waste 2-4 hours doing that just so I could finish that chore of a game.

You probably don't remember(or care) but you obtained them after the Boss Battles that occurred inside the inter-dimensional rifts. You kill the Crystal Guardians, and pretty much receive their powers.

Basically, they're over-the-top summon attacks, and there was a different one assigned to each race, and after obtaining 10 JP, you could unleash the Esper. The attacks were pretty impressive.

While still not nearly as good as some of the others, i.e. the TG16 ones, it wasn't nearly as bad as shmups.com's placeholder "avoid like the plague" statement where a review would be would lead you to believe. I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't awful and was actually kind of fun, yet still disappointed, despite knowing how bad it might be, that it didn't really live up to some of the others. Beat it twice to get the good ending and bad ending and will likely play it again, I wouldn't have been disappointed to have paid twice the price for it.

Then I started getting a little bit more used to everything and did pretty good in Capture, my team winning both matches and myself coming out on top in the second. Shin Megami Tensei on the SNES and Shin Megami Tensei on the PSX.

It may not be translated like the Rom, but I can't just let my copy of the PSX remake SMT sit after I spent all that time searching for it. I'm playing the PSX version while reading the script on Gfaqs, every now and again I proceed along the SNES version to help with items/demon covos/loose text that isn't in the translation faq.

The PSX SMT is SOOOO much more tolerable than the SNES version. The game moves MUCH faster, the scrolling looks better, the encounter rate has been toned down significantly and the music sounds better. I'm having alot more fun playing it on my PS2 than my computer's emulator.

Spent most of the day playing demos. Mini-reviews -

Kane and Lynch - The story, I'll admit, actually seemed a little interesting. A sort-of Reservoir Dogs situation where you don't really have feelings for any of the characters, but you want to see what happens, anyway. The gameplay, on the other hand, is severely broken and just plain terrible. The AI is just awful. For example, two men were standing next to each other, one firing at and facing me while the other was turned the opposite direction and was blankly staring at wall (it's really, really bad). The shooting mechanics are awful, I don't even have the faintest of ideas on how they even began to think it was acceptable. Also, and this is mostly just funny, the damage textures apparently show up anywhere on your character. For example, I had a gigantic, bloody, gaping hole in my head at one point, and at another, I had two gigantic, bloody, gaping holes on my backpack that's contents were never explained. I can only imagine it housed a tumor on my back or a baby.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma - Pretty awesome, really. I kind of want to get it, but at the same time I'm not a huge fans of these games (God of War and Devil May Cry-ish games). The "high difficulty" everyone talks about also seems to be a lot of getting things precisely right and I really don't like memorizing long chains of combos then repeating them constantly, so I'm not entirely sure whether or not I'm interested. I don't think games in this genre's difficulty is really "fair" and that it's mostly just obnoxious and frustrating.

Heavenly Sword - Very unimpressed for some of the praise I've heard and I now understand why it got as low as it did on MetaCritic. Since I just mentioned I'm not a fan of this genre in the NGS commentary, I think it goes without saying I'm not really interested in this one.

Genji - This game is pretty damn bad. Same genre as the previous two only considerably worse than Heavenly Sword. The combat is slow and extremely uninspired and the game looks bad and overcompensates poor looking character models and environments by adding A ####TON OF BLOOM.

Super Rub'a'Dub - Cute, but I'm not buying it.

Folklore - I almost quit the demo immediately after realizing that the conversations were entirely text-based, and I'm glad I didn't. Genuinely interesting and fun game. I'm in the middle of the road on whether to buy it or not, though, considering it has way too much DLC (I think it was 42 bucks worth).

Condemned 2 - Not quite as bad as the first, but still pretty bad. I love how this game can take incredibly linear and small environments and somehow turn them into complicated labyrinths for me. I was getting lost just as much as I was in the first one and the way to go was always right next to me. Everything's too dark, you move too slow, and the areas are way too freakishly cramped. Also, still not scary, at all. I'm going to stop myself before I explode.

Nucleus - Boring.

Haze - Awful.

Motorstorm - Uh, the soundtrack was sort-of interesting? Not very impressed at all, here.

Dark Sector - The demo apparently dropped me somewhat late in the game and expected me to know a few things I suppose would have been introduced beforehand, such as charging the blade to break locks and electrifying/burning the blade to effect enemies further. I was actually pretty surprised by this one and am kind of interested in getting it, but it did have some definitely lackluster elements.

Uncharted - Why the hell does the over-the-shoulder perspective in this one make him look like he's aiming FAR, FAR to the left or right (seriously the perspective is wacky)? Why do enemies react ridiculously when they're shot? Why was the main character's reaction to getting shot with anti-air "this is so not cool" and his reaction to seeing an angel statue "####?" Guy needs to get his priorities for cursing straight lol. This game's shooting aspect seems to really poorly copy Gears of War and is nowhere near as good in that regard, but I'll admit the envinronments are pretty neat and jumping around is kind of fun, though. I don't think I'm really that interested in buying it until it drops a little further, though, and I'm glad I got Resistance first, since I was debating over this or that being my first PS3 title.

Ridge Racer 7 - Fun, but I suck at it. I kind of want to get a driving wheel for my PS3 and this and GT5 just because I've never really gotten into racing games (other than F-Zero) before. Whether I like it or not, it'd be something new.

Ratchet and Clank: Future - Seems pretty cool, but nothing really that different from the other Ratchet and Clanks. By that I mean it's easy, somewhat boring shooting and platforming. Nothing bad, but nothing that great either.

The Club - Fun, but not really my cup of tea. I am glad to see an arcadey game like this, though, too many shooters these days try to emulate realism and it's nice to have a "plow through and just blow #### up" kinda game.

Echochrome - Really, really neat. Definitely getting this one. Also, why have I seen it spelled Echodrome so much?

Battlefield: Bad Company - I disliked whatever one I played before this because the single-player was severely lacking and the multiplayer just wasn't fun. I actually enjoyed this, though, and might end up getting it eventually. For whatever reason, the redneck is amusing, despite being somewhat comparable that idiotic Larry the Cable Guy (who, just for the record, I despise).

Geez Dual, just what kind of games do you like?. Been playing the battlefield demo a bit, seems fine to me. Folklore I've seen is good and am thinking of picking up when it price drops, although it's unlikely I'll grab any DLC.
Other than that yeah. Nothing too eye catching in there.

There is a Siren and a Agares senki demo in the Jp marketplace. Might like those.

Still doing MGS3, playing a bit of twewy postgame, fes.

Yeah, Sei is right. You hate pretty much everything and IMO seem to be making mountains out of molehills. Like... I'm pretty good at Ninja Gaiden and I don't memorize any combos. And I reall don't think you can say Genji looks bad. It may be uninspired but i think it looks pretty good.... despite the ####ton of bloom.

Looks like Dual is scared of commitment :P

My own personal opinion of Sigma that I just have to say... It could be the best version of Ninja Gaiden, but they force you to play as Rachel. They should have separated her parts from the main game.

Played a (very) little bit of LoZ:PH at work today. Just got finished downloading the Condemned 2 demo and played that as well. Wish it had included some better weapons within the demo but it was fun. I actually have the full game still sealed from when I ordered it on GS for $30. But since it's back up to full price I may try to exchange it for another game since it seems like a one play-through type of game. Downloading the Folklore demo at the moment.

I have to finish resident evil 4 (you always know whats going to be around the corner, something evil.) naruto rise of a ninja, dead rising, MSG3, psychonauts, devil summoner, grim fandango.

Have to start, persona 3, killer7, eternal sonata, red-dead-revolver, devil saga 2.

Have to get hold of the warriors and kane and lynch dead men.

I played some demos that have been lingering on my PS3. Didn't like Sega Superstar Tennis. I didn't score in all 3 sets and I only got a 360 in the HotD minigame, which seems sorta low. Fatal Interia was pretty fun. I'd buy it but I really don't want to buy downloadable stuff, except maybe if Sony mass distributes the PSN Points cards. Checked out the Metal Gear Database. They should have done something like Wikipedia and have several search words link to the same page. Do we really need separate entries for Adamska, Revolver Ocelot, and Shalashaska?

I was going to buy the Diablo Battlechest today, I called my local Gs and asked if they had it in stock like it said they did online, the guy said yeah so I went down to pick it up and... it was the WarCraft battlechest... Earlier today gameStop.com was offering free shipping on it, but when I got home it seems that promotion had come and went. Ohh well, I didn't care for it when i played it back in HS, but with the sequel recently annouced and the fact that it was on sale I was going to give it a second chance, but it looks like I will wait a little longer...

Geez Dual, just what kind of games do you like?

I did like several of the games I listed, I just sound overly critical. Most people tell me I'm like that and it ends up bugging some people. I've been disappointed all around this generation so my usual critical nature comes out a lot stronger on modern games, I guess. As for what I like? Different things. It's easier for me to say I don't like things, haha.

The original Diablo's multiplayer is plagued with hackers, now. It's not really fun anymore.

Be sure to play Diablo 2 online, though.

Mega Man ZX Advent - Sayck asked me my opinion about it, so here you go. First, i didn't touch to the MMZ series on GBA but i played a bit to MM ZX last year.
So far i like Advent better: the map has improved (ZX's map is a mess) and normal mode seems a bit easier (wihich is good IMO, ZX is a bit too hard for my tastes). You can't go wrong with it if you like 2d platform games and Mega Man in particular.

Besides MMZXA, i have a hard time with EO II (10F) and some fun with SNK Arcade Classics V.1 (PS2).

Someone out there has probably modded Diablo to have that capability, but I'm not really aware. Blizzard just sorta dropped Diablo support when Diablo II came out, and now it's basically a nightmare.

TBH though, Diablo hasn't really held up that well. I remember playing that when it was popular and having a blast... but I can't go back to it. Diablo II is where the real fun is. Man, has that game held up well.

Sorry, seems I misunderstood your post.

Ok I checked gamefaqs and there seems to be a coop mode for up to 4 players.

The greatness of this game, is the
fact you can connect to Blizzard¹s Battle.net. Here, you can join with 3
other people to play. Instead of playing by yourself, you can build your
character to win dueling tournaments, or co-op through hell. This is where
the REAL fun is.

Anyway I just wanted to say that I started playing Persona 2: Eternal Punishment, and it looks freaking sweet! It seems much better than Persona 3 anyway. Though I should get my copy of Nocturne in a week or two, so it'll probably get pushed aside by then. (Special thanks to my girlfriend for ordering it for me! :D )

Tony Hawk's Proving Ground DEMO..

OMFG it sucks. I'm really glad they decided not to release a game this year, they have a LOT of work to do. When you fall you ####ing keep sliding on the floor for almost 10 feet. When you do simple things like 180's and 360's the skateboarder crouches too much, it looks like he is trying to do a grab. It's so ####ing ugly, I really hope it's just the result of the demo. This looks so awful. They really dropped the ####ing ball after American Wasteland, that game was amazing.

Getting back into skate. I'm horrible at this game. Only complaints I have is that you can't control the camera, you can't pan the camera out (it's way too close to your skater), and I wish I could get off my board and walk/run. Maybe in skate 2.

Why the #### do we need a Rock Band 2? Seriously.

For more multiplayer options. Online world tour mode, the ability to create set lists to play certain songs back to back. That way the albums we have downloaded we can actually play through in order instead of having to pick only one song at a time then going back to the menu to reload and ####.

Plus it is a #### load of new songs all in one drop, not that 3+ songs a week isn't enough, it's going to be nice. I hear Bad Religion, Interpol, Against Me! and there were a few others I was really looking forward to, were going to be included.
