Aside from that, Dissidia. Lots and lots of Dissidia.

This, but the as a demo... I just can't stop and play some other game... Oh and wipeout pure demo. That's okay, although it makes me think of F-ZERO, but that's okay.

Other than that, I'l probably be playing gitaroo man lives! again. And maybe play Daxter over again, now trying to get the 100% complete.

Your money at the end effects how much you sell your ring for

The choices you make decide whether a certain character comes back at the end

Aww, yeah really. Though honestly, if you've already played the SNES version, I do recommend playing the PSX version and possibly using a katakana guide to memorize all the spells. Remiel's walkthrough works well because it basically translates all the important choices so as long as you're paying attention to what choices you're making, it's easy to follow.

I love that you have 108 party members. And since the characters aren't balanced, you can easily pick out the best. I also love the fact that there is six party members in battles.

I haven't played Tierkreis though, it doesn't really look appealing.

I thought it would be different, 100+ characters feels way too impersonal. Atleast in a party of 8 you can know almost every character. Where as in Suikoden you end up getting different sprited/named characters that are basically clones of previous characters in skills.

Still doing Dissidia, picked up some other games for the PSP, downloaded some PSX classics, but its always back to Dissidia. Crisis Core pried me away just a little, almost. I gave Monster Hunter Freedom United a spin, but went back to Dissidia.

Really just blown away by all the little details in it. I used to play FFXI a fair bit and it was nice to not only see a character from that included but presented very damn faithfully. Fear Shantotto.

Maxed out Terra and currently working on Cecil and Shantotto evenly. Need to get back to my playthroughs of FFIV and DDS, though. And Pre-order Persona and Scribblenauts.

What part are you in? I'm playing DDS2 right now, and honestly, if you spend about an hour grinding with hunt skills you can get through anything with ease. Shame I didn't really do that til the end of DDS1, it would've made my playthrough a lot easier. Just hang out near a large karma terminal and work your way through the necessary grids.

In all honesty though, a lot of the dungeons in DDS1 were just frustrating as hell. That, coupled with the encounter rate leaning on the high side as it is can make you ragequit real fast. I wanted to put the game in the microwave the entire time I was in that stupid Prince/Princess dungeon.

Oh man, I feel you. I hate that dungeon, too. It's just a headache.

DDS2 has pretty much the exact same encounter rate. There's a few tweaks to the battle stystem, but it's basically a carbon copy. I guess I got used to the game now because of DDS1. It's like that entire game was a starter kit at this point. Story's getting kinda ridiculous, but I still wanna see it through to the end.

So I finally bought GRID. Got it for my PS3 for $15; a rather reasonable price.

Even though I played the demo on 360, it still took a while to get used to again. GRID sort of pitches itself as the arcade/sim. And for the most part, it's kinda right. Cars don't turn on a dime - braking is required, correct lines are rewarded.

But in a video-gamey sort of sense. There are things that don't actually happen in real racing, whether it be the physics, AI or tracks. Everything has this sort of video game bent to it, this slight tinge of unrealism that elevates the game slightly.

The AI is brutally violent. Not in an F-Zero GX sort of way - they still have to maintain, you know, common sense - but the AI will bump you, will bruise you, will try to #### with you. Tracks are littered with objects that go careening, and the Japanese tracks are incredibly hazardous. The cars (that I've played with so far) have different handling, vaugely approximating the actual cars - 350Z's do understeer at the limit, Vipers are tail a happy - but you can do the number one thing should should NEVER do in a real race car, which is brake and turn for a corner at the same. These are just some examples, but it adds up, to give GRID something I haven't experienced in a racer in a while.

Rhythm.

But it's not a set rhythm, because of the violent AI, because of tracks with just a little more #### to screw you up. It's changing, evolving - bunches of cars are minefields, with tiptoe throttle control to get out unscathed, but ####, here comes a wall... - but it still has this feel to it, one of repitiion until you get it right. But you aren't repeating for patterns - you're repeating simply to get better. Refreshingly realistic.

I say this because I refuse to use the rewind feature. If you #### up, you do it again. That's how I see racers, so it can be frustrating, but pulling it off - a clean race, adapting to that varying rhythm - feels extraordinary.

I think even the developers knew this - as no music plays during a race. It's a nod to focus and intent.

So, ironically, this game is like a more organic Mirror's Edge on wheels. Mirror's Edge has that same feel to it, of rhythm, but Mirror's Edge is multiple paths, same enemies, where as GRID is one path, with changing enemies, which feels all the better.

SMT: Nocturne. I haven't beat it yet, but have put in a good chunk of time into it (a little over 30 hours so far).

The more you play this game, the more you learn to love this game. The quirks of the art design, characters and demons become even more pronounced.

But the more you put into it, the more you see the concept of Reason get tossed around, and through different characters - characters I previously thought as genteel now out right hate me - you see how deeply these ideals change them, confuse them. But then something hit me yesterday.

I was going through the Labyrinth of Amala (Second Kalpa) so I could get a Deathstone; I wanted to get a Hell Biker. Upon entering the Kalpa, God literally beams down and tries to pull you off the path tainted by power and greed. I continue anyways, puting myself through that godforsaken invisible wall maze, netting some Deathstones, Macca and other items in the process. After getting a near heartattack when I entered the Third Kalpa, I headed out and finally made my Hell Biker when it hit me like a brick wall; despite my intentions as a gamer, at the end of the day, I played through the Second Kalpa because I was seduced by power!

That's the basics of it all, and it spoke volumes about my play habits and even my personal habits. Even outside of games, I think I am a little curious about dabbling in sin...which is actually kind of scary.

It's pretty scary to realize that the player, not the avatar in the game, to be the monster.

Nocturne will probably be the game for me in which it made me sensitive again in a medium desensitized by violence, gore, and eyebrow raising themes. For that alone I could commend it, but it's also a damn fine game.

What dungeon are you on? You'll know when you're at the final one. It's pretty obvious. Even if it is REALLY long. Battles are really frustrating in that place. If you grind a bit at each Large Terminal you should be okay. Just have Quick Escape equipped when you get into the really obnoxious stream of random battles and leave right away. Best to just make a mad dash for the next terminals so you can grind at your leisure.

On that note, I just now finished DDS2. Gotta say, I really enjoyed the ending. Which is surprising for me to say given the horrible final dungeon that came before it. I swear, I don't think I've ever been more frustrated just roaming a dungeon before. You couldn't take two steps without getting into a fight, and to top it all off there were so many puzzles, dead ends, and backtracking, backtracking, and even more backtracking.

But like I said, it's a very satisfying end to one of the more interesting games I've played in my time. Good times.

This means I can finally move on and play P3 FES for the first time.

PS

I also picked up Garry's Mod on Steam for a fiver, so I'm trying to squeeze in some time with that as well. Whole lotta gamin'. Good thing work isn't crazy.

Good luck on getting through DDS1, Assassin. The trek to the final boss is a tough one, but the boss itself is a huge pushover.

I was going to finally start my first playthrough for Persona 3, but I think I'm gonna hold off on that until I get and beat Persona PSP. I hate playing two RPGs at the same time. I'm actually playing through Beyond the Beyond. Other than a high encounter rate on the overworld and a lack of real challenge it's not a bad game. I think I fell victim to listening to all the negative reviews about it years ago. Now that I come back to it, I'm able to enjoy it more.

The worst thing I can really say about it is all of the backtracking required can be a little maddening.

I keep meaning to start a file on Nocturne. I picked it up once, but put it down. I love that gameplay style, but the story was lacking for me at first glance. I know which path I want now so I hope after I complete FES and Devil Summoner titles I can get to it. It takes patience, that's for sure.

I'm in the final dungeon of DDS2. I'd say the final dungeon of DDS1 was ten times easier than the one for 2. There's warps, dead ends, ect ect.

I'm not really playing anything currently. I'm watching my gf play Harvest Moon [again] but I need to pick up FES. I keep procrastinating.

At first I was sort of turned off by Nocturne's story as well, because this is the first game I've played which really isn't an expose of the main characters life - it's about seeing how the world around the characters are affecting them. Slowly they transform, not becoming much different than Hikawa himself. In this regard, Nocturne is facinating. It's like The Shining - it's not enjoyable in a Tranformers sense, but you can't help but not watch.

But anyway, finished Red Shift. Started Moonshine. Not very far in yet, but the totally unedited real life backgrounds are a turn off for me.

Yakuza.

I've played a little bit of Yakuza 2, but didn't get vary far. I found the first, and decided to put more time in it.

As always, the delivery of the story is top notch. Excessively brutal, well directed and well acted (mostly), Yakuza feels like a gangster film. There are no cheap tricks, no magic involved (yet?), not death-defying acobatics. Just people, who happen to be stuck in a violent world. It feels so wholesome.

Kazuma, the main character in the game, has got to be one of the best characters I've ever seen. He is truly multifacted; gentle, punkish, serious - you could pretty much throw any term at Kazuma and it would fit. He's so wonderfully realized, and the direction doesn't treat the player and Kazuma differently - we know and learn what he does. This is an interesting point, because far too often games feel this need to obviously foreshadow events, and then expect us to sympathize with a character. The problem is that many games spend so much time trying to build a connection with that character; once we learn more, it becomes severed, and by the time the in-game character learns of the issue, you wonder what a stupid #### he is.

The combat is a little eh. It does offer an impressive amount of expandability, but it's also plagued by a rubbish camera. In Yakuza, you don't really lock-on to anyone - it's kind of loose, in that Kazuma will pound who ever is in front of him when he takes a stance, but that's about it. The system mechanics are in place - when it works, it feels solid, wonderfully brutal, crunchy, but the targeting system makes it feel too sloppy and imprecise. I did notice that once I got the level 3 dodging abillity, the lock-on seemed to work much better - likely the increased distance allowed the game not to give up in confusion.

It's definitely an interesting game. It is not GTA in Japan - it's really just an action game with light RPG elements. Regardless of how you classify it, it's pretty damn good.

I don't import RPGs as a policy. Also, simply tweaking a difficulty setting doesn't fix inherently flawed gameplay mechanics, it just changes enemy stat parameters and makes the flaws more obvious.

That and they perfected the system KH was trying to do in Dissidia, which makes it almost impossible to want to endure them again elsewhere. Sure its one-on-one brawler, but even so it has a stronger system.

Incorrect. They do more than just "tweaking a difficulty setting". They also add in very useful new abilities, as well as an additional form, plus I believe you missed the part where I said "made you play it like you would DMC3 or something", as in, "what flaws? This is the game it was supposed to be. Timing during blocking and dodging are essential. Combat requires strategy instead of just pure buttonmashing." Besides, KH 358/2 days plays pretty much the same way as normal KH2... only because my fingers are crammed on the DS's tiny buttons it's far less enjoyable to play. :/ The only real difference is HOW you get abilities, but the actual battle gameplay remains the same, with the addition of the limit system.

The Ability system bears a strong resemblance to KH, as do the reaction commands. Except the reaction commands there are context sensitive to the environment or launching moves and not opponents/allies like Kingdom Hearts 2.

There's nothing confusing about Dissidia's combat, you fight over Bravery points to use to deal HP attacks. I think that's a rather novel approach, really, and perfect for a competitive RPG.

I really want to finally start Persona PSP, but after beating P3 I decided on playing The Grind. Sorry, The Answer.

The repetition is annoying, and the sole fact that it exists really irks me. I have no idea why they'd revisit a story that ended so perfectly. I like the flashbacks and all that, but I'm just real sour on the whole experience.

I hope it ends well enough to justify its existence.

An Atlus trifecta plus 1! I'm not sure if all of them were developed by Atlus.

Rule of Rose (PS2) - I need to get back to that.

Izuna: Legend of the Unemployed Ninja (NDS) - I need to get back to this, as well.

Ontamarama (NDS) - I beat the story mode, and have an "S" rank on the first 10 songs (on easy.) So sue me, I'm not a rythym gamer... :p This is actually pretty easy to pick up for 5 minutes, beat a song, and put it down again. I don't know that I'll be able to do much of anything on the higher difficulties.

Samurai Western - I beat it on normal, I've beat the high score on each stage, except for the "Extra" stages. I still need to go through on hard, and beat the high scores on those levels as well. Also, I need to find the other playable characters, and beat the various stages with each victory condition (time limit, no master mode, no falling, constant master mode, no grabbing.) I think I need to do that on normal AND hard, ther emay be other stuff to do as well: Challenge mode, Insane mode, etc.

Well, I've set aside Persona PSP for the time being. I'm not having a problem with the game, its just between that and my Persona 4 Expert Mode run, I needed a fresh experience in my rotation.

So I'm bouncing between Jeanne D'Arc and wrapping up my original Phantasy Star Portable campaign on PSP for now, playing Dissidia on the bonus days as well. Jeanne D'Arc is every bit as awesome as people had been telling me. Level 5 is often hit-or-miss with me, I hated the Dark Cloud games with a passion (I hate random dungeon with no purpose to them other than being random) and found Rouge Galaxy an utter bore to play but Dragon Quest VIII, Professor Layton and Jenne D'Arc have all been extremely enjoyable.

PS2 its all about P4. I'm having as much fun as I did on the original play through, this time the major goal being ready to challenge the optional boss and max out as many Social Links as I can.

DS I'm still focusing on KH 358/2 Days. I'm really liking the Panel system in this game, its a much more fun way of customizing your character abilities. Think I'm gonna follow up with Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia.

I hope you're right, man. Some of the bosses are thrown at you to make you think strategically, and afterwards you just feel awesome for winning. Other bosses are just flat out cheap and hard, and the only real way to win is to gain another three or four levels.

I'm thinking I'm going to unlock what is available on easy mode, MAYBE try to play through the story on normal mode, and call it quits (once I get S ranking on all songs on easy.)

Samurai Western
I beat normal mode, I probably will try to go through hard mode, and find the wanted posters, but I don't know if I will try all the grinding to get to level 99, unlocking EVERY character available, or EVERY accessory available. Some of the higher things require you to beat every level with every condition on each level - time limit, no master mode, constant master mode (mutually exclusive), no falling, no grabbing - and I just see a lot of work for that, and I am kind of getting tired of the game.

Played Afrika a bit, but I have to say that it's been a bit disappointing so far. Probably just the beginning... the driver chooses where we head, and if I wander to far from the car, there's an invisible border that sends you back to it. Really cuts into the exploring I was hoping I could do at my leisure.

I want a PS3 already, damn it. I need to turn in my work right away so I can get one with Uncharted 2, Demon's Souls, and lots of other fun stuff.

I beat The Answer this morning. Those final bosses in the game (the ones in the actual dungeons, not coliseum) were really trying my patience. I'm also really glad the story wasn't too ridiculous or superfluous as I originally thought. The flashbacks were a nice tough, and the glimpse into MC's bigger moments really felt sad. The actual final moments of the game felt a bit rushed to me. I couldn't imagine what else they could've shown to end the game, so I really shouldn't nitpick.

The one thing this game did wonderfully is just make me love Aigis even more.

FINALLY, I get to start Persona: PSP.

Game was awesome. Once you start to piece together all the imagery, it becomes a very rewarding game to play. My only complaint is that on Normal/Normal it's pretty easy.

But the atmosphere of the game, it ranks with Half-Life 2 and SoTC. The town is practically a character on its own!
