If the Suns play anything like they did against the Lakers recently, it's over for the Clippers.
are you mocking the great Suns because of there christmas day loss to the Lakers? Are YOU a Lakers fan???!!!
I'm not a Lakers fan, but I meant exactly what I said. The Suns played one hell of game against the Lakers (losing by only six points). I was right the Suns crushed the Clippers, ha.

Metal Gear Ac!d.
This turn-based strategy game is supposed to be about infiltration, but MGA doesn't encourage you to play hidden and let you slaughter enemies as you please. Blurry zooms on cards and ugly stockshots from MGS titles feel very unprofessional for a Kojima prod. Otherwise, it has nice visuals for a 2004 game.

Is it truly that bad from start to finish? I just got to the point where I pick up the assault rifle, and although it is really irritating, I was hoping Rio was one of those "I know more than I'm letting on" types of people. From that comment, though, I now have my doubts.
I had such high hopes that the game wouldn't be too bad, and I still want to beat it, but I am getting sick of playing it.
I guess I'm going back to Romancing Saga, FFXII, and Call of Duty 4 for a while. I'm trying to play FFXII more, with the hopes that I'll like it more. EDIT: I'm actually enjoying FFXII. I'm not 100% sure as to why I hated it so much, aside from disliking a few characters and the battle system, but even those aren't as bad as I remember them being. It's not the greatest game of all time, but I certainly don't mind owning it now.

I'm currently in between rpgs right now(except Etrian Odyssey), so I need to go shopping. I have a ds, an 80G ps3, and a ps2, that I think I will keep for now. I dug up an old FM3 save file and played through the last 20 or so missions of Emma's storyline.
Now I am currently playing through Alisa's story. So far even the initial battles seem way more challenging than in Emma's scenario, but that is a good thing.
The whole seeing the other half of the story concept is pretty interesting, but the DHZ being portrayed as the "good guys" is a little hard to swallow after Emma's story.

It's very different storyline wise, I found myself in a room with Shishio Makoto, and Soujiro and was really damn confused because it was nothing like the Anime since they were all never in the same room at a time. At the end of each battle you have these choices (I don't know what) but I guess depending on what you choose effects the direction you go through the game and storyline. I love playing as Saito and Kenshin. Hiten Mitsurugi Kuzu Ryu Sen is so amazing when you pull it off.

You probably know this already, but the anime is set 6 months to a year (can't remember exactly) before the game. Some of the stuff in the game will make much more sense once you watch the show so you should probably watch it first to get the maximum enjoyment out of the games.

.hack//G.U. 1 - Great gameplay and story so far. I'll probably pick up the ROOTS anime soon.
You probably know this already, but the anime is set 6 months to a year (can't remember exactly) before the game. Some of the stuff in the game will make much more sense once you watch the show so you should probably watch it first to get the maximum enjoyment out of the games.
That being said, I didn't think the anime was all that hot. I wasn't even going to finish watching the series but someone gave me the first GU game, so I figured what the hell.
Way to much typical Japanese teen angst in Roots for me though.Weird, people told me to watch Roots after playing through the games. I was surprised to find that volume 6 isn't released yet.

^Do you guys reckon that the DS version of Assassin's Creed will be any good? I read an article in Nintendo Power about it - it seems too linear for me. I was wondering what you guys are thinking. For example, are you going to pick it up because it's a prequel to the console game or do you think that it isn't worth it?

I'm surprised you're showing a disinterest with the linearity, considering the games that you're into are anything but non-linear.
Anyway, I like AC, but I'll pass on the DS version.

I'm surprised you're showing a disinterest with the linearity, considering the games that you're into are anything but non-linear. Hmm, that's a tough one. I'm not sure if I would consider grid style games (|like Luminous Arc) quite the same as linear. Sure the grid could be defined as multiple linear paths, but from what I've gathered, the DS version of this is a sort of single line where you can only move horizontally. Those games don't really appeal to me. Although, if you are talking about games that I like akin to Summon Night: Swordcraft Story, then I can understand what you are saying. However, the SNSS games also had a free range walking system, and the battles were the only linear style portions, where as it seems that this game is completely that style.

Being able to walk around where ever doesn't make a game non-linear. Non-linear is when you have the choice of tackling parts of the game in whatever order you choose to. Games like SN, LA, etc. all have a set path that you need to complete the game in. You cannot jump around at all.
You may be able to fight battles in LA any way you choose, but the game as a whole is still linear. You're told where to go, when to go, and you cannot deviate from that at all, otherwise the story will not progress.
An example of non-linear games would be the SaGa series. It's your choice where to go. It's your choice what you do. You can skip entire parts if you want. You can fight who you want, not who the story tell you you have to.
I can't say much for AC on DS, but the console ACs are very linear. You're told where to go and what to do, and that's what has to be done. How you do this is up to you. It's open ended, but it's not non-linear.

I'm a bit disappointed. The series is still addicting, but the new CO are not particulary interesting so far (12 stages done) and i have the feeling of having played this kind of game 100th times in the past... maybe i'm weary of the AW series.

Im kind of on the same page as Kid with AW. The world being ruined and that whole aspect isnt really played up all that well. It happened, a few characters say a few things about it, and then suddenly people are living a normal life and have accepted it. I dont get it, there could be some good drama between characters or something, but so far its not that crazy.
Gameplay is right on though, still that same good AW formula. Also, I agree with Kid again, the new battle screens are neat.

At the start of the game hes waiting on another character in town, and right next to the fountain what is he doing? A hand stand, just kicking back, waiting, doing what he loves doing, STANDING ON HIS HEAD!
Also, when you attack in battle, you dont pick who you want to attack, it randomly chooses the target for you.

Lunar DS is probably the worst RPG I ever played. Do you really think so? I guess I could consider it the worst I've played too...
You lose HP when you run, thats bad. Yes, that is probably one of the most ridiculous things ever. It gets highly annoying. However, it is sort of realistic. Ultimately though, I'd rather not have this effect and rather think that the characters aren't actually running, it's just a visual representation of a much longer journey.

In all honesty I thought it was an actual pretty good game overall. When I was a kid I loved watching Space Jam, there were many references to it in this game, it's like a sequel sort of. The battle system is really one of the most diverse I have ever played. Everyone has their own unique attacks, special attacks, magic, and defense.
I don't really think it's even meant to be that hilarious, the guys behind it made art, music, and a storyline up for this game. The only parts I think are intentionally hilarious are the save points where this pump is like the ultimate weeaboo talking about America vs Japan in terms of video games. Ha, just wait till you try to get down the dash jumps, if it's Ark of Napishtim you're talking about. Ugh, they did much better with putting in double jumps in Felghana. Also, blame Konami, they're the ones that did the PS2 porting.

The dash jumps are fine. I have no problem with them. It's when I'm running toward an edge in a place like the Alma Trials or Amnesia Ruins, where there are a series of percision jumps. I hit jump and fall off the edge... The game just doesn't register the jump button till half a second later, which is crucial for this type of jumping. Plus, missing a jump onto a tiny pillar and falling to a lower floor, having to climb back up, doing three or four jumps with the ####ty delay gets extremely annoying. I like percision jumping, but this just creates a false sense of difficulty.
Other than that, this game is ####ing awesome. And yeah, Felghana handled jumping much better. I rarely had any issues with it.

Ever since I S-Ranked all campaign/trial missions in AW:DoR, I started playing Hotel Dusk: Room 215(up to Chapter 9), still getting my ass kicked in Contra 4, and went back to playing EO post game. Finished the first mission of No More Heroes(Awesome game), played a little bit of Paper Mario(pretty fun so far, I never did play it on the N64 back when), and got to the 2nd floor in Lolo which is also good. I was having trouble deciding between Lolo and Star Tropics since both of these titles were discussed on here and I hadn't played either of them before.
EDIT- BTW Al, the new Phoenix Wright(Although it's called Apollo Justice since you play as a new character) ships out February 19th. All the cases will be like the 5th case in PW1, making use of the DS touchscreen. It was my favorite part of the game at least. Also, I highly recommend Hotel Dusk since it's very similar in terms of investigating.

S Ranked ALL missions in DoR? Jesus.
Guess I'm just obsessive like that. Although some of the AW dedicated forums (http://www.warsworldnews.com/) I go to have people figuring out and writing day-to-day guides for perfect 450 point S-ranks on some missions. Too crazy for me, I'm perfectly content with some of the bare minimum 300 point S ranks I got on several missions. You don't unlock anything for it either, unless gold stars count.
http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z18/MrYucko/awdor006.jpg
And Al, I don't want to spoil anything for you but the 5th case was part of the reason why PW1 is still my favorite out of the series so far. It wasn't originally in the GBA version. It was made specifically for the DS. Unfortunately they didn't give PW2 or 3 the same treatment. But Apollo Justice will have similar features throughout the whole game.

Yeah I could tell by the credits I got today after the incredibly epic case with von Karma. That sucks though Episode 5 totally steals the show from that!? I will have to see tomorrow since I stopped after Episode 4 to read my new EGM. Has a really awesome cover story on the PS3, and the new Ninja Gaiden games.
So what in the hell happened to von Karma? The judge didn't mentioned a single thing about him being arrested! Just declared Edgeworth innocent.. if he actually didn't get thrown in jail I really hope he makes a return. These other prosecutors on the other PW's are looking to be lame.
Edit: Playing Odin Sphere while I am at home. I am on the Mercedes arc now.

How do you feel about OS, Al?
Arjuna
02-09-2008, 09:20 PM
I really do love Odin Sphere, I really do. But my enmity towards it's unbearable lag at some points of the game just pisses me off beyond limits. It's like ok I understand, it's a boss fight, it's suppose to be difficult..
OH MY GOD ARE GIANT BALLS OF ARMOR FALLING ALL OVER THE PLACE, THE LAG ASDKL;FJASDKL;FJWIIOC
All of these unnecessary things that could have been replaced or taken out by other objects to prevent lag would have really saved the game for me. Instead I stopped playing it for a very long time.
Now that I picked it up again after some time, I guess I am over it. Beautiful soundtrack, one of Hitoshi Sakimoto's best and easily on par with Final Fantasy Tactics. I think the animations and sprites speak for themselves. From what I have played every character so far has been very fun to play, especially Cornelius. If you haven't picked it up, I highly suggest you do.

I have it, on Velvet's story. But, as I've stressed so many times before, this game is one of the more frustrating ones I've come across. It's a love/hate relationship for me. I just wanted your input on it.

I stopped playing with Mercedes, she's not fun to play as at all. This game wowuld have been a lot better if they just let you pick in what order to play with all the different character, and if all their stories weren't almost exactly the same...

I pretty much played through every character none stop after OS was released because I loved the art, the music and the storybook setting, but I got burnt out with the gameplay near the end of Velvet's second chapter.
I definitely want to finish it at some point. I just don't see everything coming back to me naturally if/ when I decide to pick it back up.

Well, your opinion may differ since not much tops von Karma in the PW series. But I thought the features present in the 5th case added a lot to the gameplay and made it all the better overall.

I'm not sure if they mention what happens to him in PW1 but I know you find out in PW2.
Anyway, beat Hotel Dusk and Lolo last night. Playing EO and No More Heroes for the most part now.

second disc, haha, I almost forgot.
This guy called in the other day asking about Lost Odyssey, and sounded really concerned. He wanted to know if it really was going to have 4 discs, and how they were going to fit them all in the case. I told him about Blue Dragon having 3 discs and it shouldn't be a real problem at all. Then he asked if they were going to charge more because of all the extra discs. He was worried for a minute there.
My boss over heard me, he's the Slaughter equivalent in my store, and questioned if it was really going to be 4 discs as well. I said 360 only uses DVDs and that they had a lot of stuffed crammed into the game, I did say a Blu Ray disc wouldn't of had that problem, but he isnt the smartest guy so he then tried to argue that Blu Ray doesn't that much more than a DVD...
This is the same guy who owns a Zune and says Microsoft has a better, well stocked, marketplace than Apple, as well as more podcasts (I never understood this, what does he think a podcast is and why does he think Microsoft has "more" of them?)

I also opted to turn the voice acting off after an hour and a half. It is not over the top horrible, but there was just way to much of it for me -- a couple of characters really bugged me. This really feels like Persona "lite" to me, but I will play a while longer before I get too critical.

The whole concept behind Devil Summoner seemed so cool. I really loved the art design, and the localization is top notch. IMO the best localization that Atlus USA has done so far.
I don't know how something with so much potential ended up sucking so badly.

Step one would have been to utilize that art. Instead of using ugly polygon builds for the character dialog boxes, use the 2D art.

Regretably, Im playing Twisted Metal Head On, Extra Twisted Edition, for PS2. I rented it so now I'm compelled to unlock everything before I return it, only played throught it as 2 characters and my thumbs ache already lol, Weapon Pick-Ups seem too far spead apart, make it hard to stock up to kill the enemies, so Stages tend to last forever. Maybe I'll upload a save once I finish the game.

I did, and I have been recently playing the DS one. I would agree, but I do think I am spamming the arena much more this time. I hardly ever used it in the original. I'm not sure if that is the only reason, but I know that it is partly responsible.

I spammed the arena at first with the DS version, but stopped bothering with it unless I'm really hard up for cash, which hasn't been at all in at least 10 battles. I didn't even mess with it with the original.

Good point. When I originally played, I didn't even realize that certain types of squares provided varying cover. I mean, yeah, it was all right there on screen, but I just never payed attention to it. I've also noticed that I'm not using nearly as many melee fighters as I did, so that's probably a part of it as well.

Maybe it's just because we're older, so naturally these things wouldn't be as difficult? Just a though.
Kid, I dig Professor Layton. I've only done maybe 20 - 25 puzzles and so far they're a pretty good mix of simple, yet fun ones, and mind bending hard. The whole atmosphere is pretty cool. Gives off a definite 80's anime/Studio Ghibli vibe in a sort of mid-20th century French village(though with British accents). No complaints at all. I was actually just about to ask you why you weren't playing it. :P
