Heheh, yeah I didn't really feel like writing out "Raidou Kuzunoha vs. The Soulless Army" last night. Plus the 1st two devil summoner games (from what I can tell based on art and Japanese-speaking gamers' descriptions) are really cool, so they shouldn't be ignored. Soul Hackers has some of my favorite MegaTen art- it's wildly colorful compared to most art from the other series' in the franchise. Look up screenshots of the Devil's Dictionary [Soul Hackers' in-game compendium] and you'll see what I mean. Also, you've gotta love Nemissa :D

Heh, I was lucky to find a copy of American McGees Alice. It depressed the crap out of me so I stopped, I should start it up again, great game. The're making another one I heard.

I was really enjoying Ninja Gaiden Sigma until I found out they took all the blood out of Sigma 2 and changed it too this purple lightning crap. I'm just so depressed Tomonobu Itagaki doesn't have the rights to Ninja Gaiden anymore. :bs:

I played a bit of Overlord, currently exploring the elven forest. Interesting game so far.

I started a new game of the original Baldur's Gate Saga, using the BGtutu mod that converts BG1 to the BG2 engine. Currently a neutral evil human Fighter, because the evil NPCs are that much more amusing. Though I'm thinking of starting over as a rogue since my BG2 party will most likely be lacking one and sneaking around backstabbing people is so much fun.

I also decided to continue my game of Tales of Vesperia after being distracted from it by many other games for a couple of weeks.

I just got my ass kicked in Marvel VS Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes.

I had a 5-0 win streak in Tatsunoko VS Capcom: Cross Generation of Heroes, only for me to get my ass kicked by CPU PTX-40A, as my team was Roll classic/Mega Man Trigger.

I had a 3-2 record in Tekken 5, 2 W's as Christie, and 1 W as Hwoarang.

Yep, theyre making a sequel on consoles. ^_^ I had to watch my gf play this seeing as I couldn't handle the controls very well. I've been trying to get a joystick patch of some kind, but no luck for us Windows users. >>; Also, the movie is still on hold, not to be confused with Tim Burton's junk.

Near the end off Day 1 on Devil Survivor (this is really the first SMT game I have actually sat down and played). Loving it so Far.

I need to get back to Ar Tonelico, I got the first "fake" Misha ending, but now have to continue along part 3 and actually finish the game.

Started Super Robot Tasien: OGS.

For new Gen consoles, I've put a few hours into Spiderman WOS and am looking forward to finishing that.

However, I'm really distracted by Devil Survivor right now, so thats my main focus.

Think I'm finally going to give Oblivion a go. It's been in the unplayed stack for quite a while now.

Good luck with that. ;) I thought it was fun in the beginning, but now I think I must be about halfway through the game and it has gotten rather repetitive and boring. Also the dialogue tends to put me to sleep, thus shortening both my play time and evenings.

I've been on a D&D/Bioware game buzz lately. I'm still playing some Baldur's Gate with my neutral evil half-elf assassin Loki. But I also decided it was about time I tried out the first Neverwinter Nights, still unsure what I'm gonna play, but I'm leaning towards a chaotic good human cleric of Shaundakul or Lliira(I know this is accessory, but I like having detailed characters).

On the portable gaming side, I took a little break from Class of Heroes to play some Pangya. Class of Heroes is fun, but IMO not nearly as good as Etrian Odyssey. As for Pangya, I've been having a lot of fun with it so far, mostly playing story mode to unlock characters.

Looks like a great game. I used to play it on PC. However, I think I won't buy it : not having an infrastructure mode sucks. And I already have HSG : Open Tee 2. I don't feel like unlocking every single thing in another golf game for quite some time.

As for what I'm playing right now, well, mostly Class of Heroes. Just got it, and it rocks.

I'm in the beginning, actually. I'm not stuck, but it is hard since the only platformers I've played are the Sly Games, Megaman 1, 2, 3, and 4, and Chicken Little the Video Game (lol, I couldn't stand that game). Platformers just take awhile for me.

I'm still playing Saints Row 2 although I am sort of stuck on the last few remaining missions (corporate Meltdown is annoying). I'm at level 4 with Fallout 3 but still just barely surviving. I got Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion G.O.T.Y. edition over the weekend for only twenty bucks. Although I wasn't expecting much, I am actually enjoying this game a little more than Fallout 3. It probably helps that exploring the countryside doesn't always mean packs of raiders or mutant fire ants will always be on your butt the minute you walk outside the city. I have also gotten into replaying classic RPGs like Shining Force and Shining in the Darkness (Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection). It's funny how much I remember about these games despite the fact that I haven't played them in nearly fifteen years.

Still playing The Dark Spire. On the seventh (final?) floor. I seem to have made a fatal flaw with my party though. Still running the aggressive formation, but I haven't been able to upgrade my fighter/priest into a paladin. He probably needs charisma which I didn't realize is not available in the guild. So I have Samurai, Fighter/Priest, Ninja, and Druid. Fighter/Priest is handicapped with a poor AC if I want to cast spells. I might have to make him another Samurai if things get too tough.

Also playing Retro Game Challenge. That thing is dripping with awesomeness. There is absolutely no reason for anybody to not play it unless they have no soul. Best $30 I spent all year.

Finally got around to picking up Zelda: Phantom Hourglass and Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume. Gamestop was having some kind of sale, so VP: CotP was surprisingly $20, which is half off the original price point. Too bag Dragon Quest V wasn't on sale, but I haven't even started DQIV yet, so that can wait.

VP seems to have a pretty twisted premise, you actually have to sacrifice allies to win battles, progress the story and gain new abilities. And here I thought Fire Emblem was harsh for making you decide who you send out to die.

But I'm gonna get back to that one later. For now, I'm rotating Devil Survivior, Devil Summoner 2, Phantom Hourglass and Pokemon Platinum.

Also not buying any more games until I've saved up for a Wii or PSP. Probably a Wii since I'm undecided on getting a PSP or PSP Go. I'm probably going to pre-order Persona either way, I'm just not sold on PSP Go until I see what's available for download at launch.

I have a stack of 20+ DS games I've yet to finish since I got my DSi and Devil Survivor will likely be the first of them I finish. I've got more than enough to hold me over til I have a Wii. Gotta get Punch Out, Zelda and Metroid Prime Trilogy after I get a Wii, though.

I'm addicted to Devil Survivor. The characters and plot are getting more interesting all the time, and as I'm nearing the end and beginning to see the deadly consequences of my decisions I want to see more and more what will happen next. I'm also trying to finish Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia, but I always have a hard time justifying the removal of Devil Survivor from the DS :) Over the weekend I bought Wrath Unleashed from Amazon mostly because my free trial membership of the 'Prime' shipping option is running out... I've heard the game is a little iffy thanks to the loading times between tactical and battle screens but hey if it's anywhere near Archon in design quality I know I'll have fun. There really should be more games like this; it's not exactly a secret that Archon and its few spiritual successors were and are some of the most beloved games of all time. I wonder how difficult (or possible) it would be to create a genre hybrid like Archon in DarkBasic or Lite-C?

I don't care what anybody says, but Final Fantasy 9 is a great game. Make sure to look out for those Stalazzio coins though. You probably aren't that far yet, but there are these hidden coins you can cash in for good items, like the Blood Sword for Steiner. Anyway, I never beat it.

My friend challenged me to play Grandia II nonstop till I beat it (which I did), play through FFVIII (which I'm doing right now), beat Ozma, Beat Margaret, get around to finishing Nocturne on hard mode, start and finish Dark Cloud 2, and once it comes out play with and beat him at least once with every character in Dissidia.

I don't think we need to go there. You have to admit that, plot aside, the design of FFVIII had some real balls to shake up the norms of the series. Same with FFXII.

Also that FFXII has a level of maturity (actual maturity, people, not blood and guts) to it that the most popular installments of the series can't really claim. Though FFXI had many as well.

Amazing the plots you can create when Kitase isn't there making it an emo kid affair.

foobar that's the main reason I liked both, though I do like all. They had the guts to do things far more differently than the other ff's. Really they'd of been truly great games if certain faults didn't hinder them. Character wise for ff12 (at least the main cast) and storywise for ff8, if they had given moredetail to those factors they'd of been truly astounding and original by ff standards and even rpg standards to a certain extent.

I do recognize that they hate Canada though, and for no reason at all! We're just above America, it isn't THAT hard to ship it to east-south Ontario. Obviously it is that retailers in Canada hate Atlus, and Canadians love Atlus, and Atlus... They have their "low production numbers" thing which grinds my gears.

I'm currently playing Xenosaga Episode II with my bro. We're at Orgulla, and can beat her, but we're going to grind for a few hours so that we can get the bonus cash to help pay of Captain Matthew's debt. Well, you're silly. Also, if you're citing 'lack of emotion' as why the voices are annoying, then you probably need to play more. That's just an assumption on my part though, since that's what everybody complains about.

Still, prefering Japanese voice acting to English is just silly, unless you can actually understand Japanese enough to appreciate it instead of IT IS JAPANESE THEREFORE IT IS SUPERIOR.

I bought Shining Force EXA, cause I was always interested in the game. It's so ####ing plain, I just traded it in and got Amplitude for PS2 instead. Taking a while to get used to, but it's pretty fun!

I think I didn't like EXA too much because, well, I'm not sure what it wants to be. It starts off like Tales of Vesperia with a hip anime opening, then has a kid chasing and subsequently killing a pig in some weird Zelda-esque fight that doesn't feel quite right. Then you get some dialogue where the characters are all chummy and stuff. It just felt very...contrived. I know I didn't get very far, but I wasn't really feeling it.

I'm still pretty new to console RPGs, and JRPGs in particular. But all the ones I've played, there was this spark of inspiration, something so unique about them that really hooked me. EXA just felt like a generic anime. Nocturne starts with the end of the world and Persona 2 starts with a high school principal dead. EXA had me hunting pigs. I looked at some screen shots, and eventually you hunt a whole bunch of pigs!

Looking forward to picking up Nocturne again after my exams are done.

And you're blaming the VAs for this?

You have lost just about any credibility you ever had in an argument about voice acting.

Ah, I meant Gale, not Cielo. It's been awhile since I picked up Pt 1 and those are the 2 chars I never use. -.-;

Nonetheless, I'd rather not fight. I was just trying to point out its the tone of the game. IIRC, Generations of Chaos is supposed to have worse VA than Resident Evil 1, or so I read... Also, did you ever think that it might be the director's fault, not the VAs? =/ If you don't like the english acting, either mute it like you said, or import, stop bitching.
The voice acting in 'Nocturne' was horrid.

Haha, that's unfortunately one of my favorite games. I used to play the hell out of that game when I was a freshman in high school. Yes, the voices are ATROCIOUS, but they're laughably bad. I have the PSP version and I miss the stupid chuckle I'd get after leveling up with anyone.

It's right up there with Jill Sandwich.

Man, now I feel like we're best friends. XD My cousin and I spent an entire summer playing SO2 and it remains one of my fav games... I even got the remake, but... and god forbid I get struck down for saying it... loved the original voices better. I own 2 copies (there was two pressings, on one the disc is shinier and the other is more dull) and an imported copy of the PSX version, love that game. Hated 3. Loved 1. Havent played 4.

I gotta agree with you on preferring the original voices. It's not that they were better (they were NOT) but I grew up with them so they're going to be tops with me forever. I liked First Departure enough, too, but didn't really have the same staying power as Second Story.

Never played 3 because I heard nothing but terrible things about it. I don't own a nexgen console so I haven't played 4.

I began playing Suikoden II (again) because I love the game and therefore I want to get every character for the first time.

I have been on a trip this week, so I finally came home today. The first thing I did was downloading Mothership Zeta for Fallout 3, and just took a break now after about an hour.

And while on that trip I started on and finished Mirrors Edge.

I also finished Phoenix Wright: Justice for All (the second) the other day. The last case was extremely good.

Played quite a few games in short bursts.

I gave up on Amplitude. It's fun, but I don't like the music and visually, it's trying to hard. Music for a game like that needs to be gloriously electronic, which I hear Frequency is.

So I took Amplitude back to the store and got GTA3, because after all these years, I never did play the game that started it all. It's amazing to go from a game with a misguided artstyle (Amplitude) to one that is so sharp (GTA3). It's so dense, so right. I comically got my ass beat by a couple gangsters with shotguns and I had a dinky little pistol, oh well :(

I'm dipping my feet in the translation of Persona 2: Innocent Sin. Having played EP first, it feels...surreal to play as Tatsuya and not Maya. It has a much longer setup than EP; which makes sense for what is supposed to be the first game in the P2 storyline. Many people say that the team of Eikichi, Lisa and Tatsuya are much more organic than the EP characters, but this early in the game, I can't really say. It feels much more playful, however; eyes bulge at surprising moments and Lisa constantly tugs at your sleeves. EP almost feels draped in professionalism in that regard.

I bought Rez for PS2 off some guy on Kijiji for $5. I already have it for 360, but I figured for $5, why the hell not? It's still trippy as hell.

Hmm, electronic music games huh... It will be somewhat pricey to get into, especially if you cannot currently play imports but, might I recommend the Beatmania series? (Not the awful US version though.) Beatmania is heavily electronic-based, and is ridiculously fun. It's kind of got a steep learning curve, but it's great.

I got a PS3 last week! $250 included a 20 GB PS3, Oblivion, DMC4, some Japanese Guundam game, MGS4, FFVII (incomplete though), FFVIII, FFIX, FFX, FFX-2, FFXII, and two DualShocks. Needless to say, I am ####ing happy.

I played some DMC4. I think ZOE2 really helped me with action games; I was able to swallow DMC4's silliness and get a moderate grip on combat.

I also played GT HD Concept. It's probably the purest form of GT you can get: one course, 10 cars. You memorize that course, you learn the nuances of each car, and the seconds drop. I hate the fact it automatically tries to meter the throttle for you, but you can turn down the effect (idk if you can take it of though). It's excellent.

I gave Devil Summoner 2 a whirl yesterday too. Such a charming game; the combat is fun, the atmosphere is whole. I love it.

Initial D: Street Stage.

I've been wanting to play a home version of Initial D for years now; the arcade had its allure, but, like classic SF fans, you practice at home and bring your game to the arcade. Finally found a shop that sold the game; I traded in my import MS Gundam: Crossfire game and got $20 of the price, bringing the price down to a rather reasonable $20.

Playing an import game for the first time, I never realize how much is different, as stupid as that sounds. Huge foreign text dominates the screen, characters prattle in foreign languages, and every menu selection could very well be a possible deadly "Delete save game?" option. I progress with trepidation until I come to grips with the game.

The first thing, that I never really realized in the arcade, is that Initial D really isn't what it tries to come off as. The anime (the Japanese version, anyways) is highly technical - throttles are controlled within millimeters, braking points are sweated over, the steering angles tweaked with protractors. I honestly expected something like Gran Turismo, a little more arcadey.

Initial D is actually not this!

It's gloriously Daytona USA.

Yes, that Daytona USA, with it's lurid 4-1-4 shifing mechanics, stab-at-the-brakes and throttle lifting mechanims. It's a little more subdued - ironically Initial D, a game based on an anime about drifting has less actual drifting than Daytona USA, a game about stock-car racing in which the grip is so high if you drift, you die - but the mechanics are still there. And it's wonderful, as always. The courses are brilliant, building a rhythm, with U-turns being accents in the song. The actual music is ripped straight from the anime - Initial D is legendary for it's use of Eurobeat, and it pumps the blood even more when your actually racing.

It's a brilliant, brilliant game, and after all these years, worth the wait. I'll probably get the PS3 one too, despite having different physics.
